Picture sizes

[edit]

Hi NikkyPA1: When you add pictures as thumbs to articles, please don't size them explicitly. You're over-riding the set preferences of every editor who has set their own preferences in their profile. Wikipedia's Manual of Style says not to do that. Ping me if you have any questions. I'm going to remove the forced sizes from the articles I know about. Bird images

[edit]

Hi NikkyPA1, I'm glad you enjoy birdwatching; I do too. However, Wikipedia is not the place to stash all your bird images. The aim of each article is to provide an encyclopedic treatment of a subject, with such images as illustrate different facets. Articles are not galleries; there is no need for multiple images showing essentially the same thing. Additionally (and this is particularly true for common birds) there is generally a wealth of pictures available on Commons, and we should choose only from the best of these. A picture like the one you added to California gull is not useful to the reader, in that it does not illustrate something that another images does not yet show, the subject is tiny, and the lighting and composition are substandard. A site like iNaturalist, which I highly recommend, may suit you much more for the sharing of bird images. Cheers --Elmidae (talk · contribs) 16:26, 27 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
