Yahoo, Page merge
[edit]Hey we talked on yahoo about wikipedia merge page help.
I type Jeff Winger into the box and I either get one of these two pages,
http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Jeff_Winger#Jeff_Winger http://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Special%3ASearch&search=Jeff+Winger&fulltext=1
where do I find the redirect help you suggested?
Water78 (talk) 03 January 2011 (UTC)
- Go to Jeff Winger.
- Scroll to the top of the page.
- Find the text "(Redirected from Jeff Winger)" just below the title.
- Click on the link from the phrase "Jeff Winger" in that text.
- Hit Edit on the resulting page.
- I hope this makes it clear. :) {{Nihiltres|talk|edits|⚡}} 00:14, 4 January 2011 (UTC)
GLAM/DER
[edit]Hi, I recently set up WP:GLAM/DER and we would like to take a snapshot of article quality (there are only a handful of related articles at the moment). As you set this up for GLAM/BM, I was wondering if you would be interested in setting up the categories etc. in a similar way? I have had a go at doing this by hand but I'm not sure what I've missed out. Thanks, Fæ (talk) 14:19, 9 January 2011 (UTC)
- Sure, I'll take a look at it soon. {{Nihiltres|talk|edits|⚡}} 02:35, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
Installous
[edit]I found that you deleted the Wikipedia page on the illegal cydia application "Installous". Why? Garlikguy2 (talk) 04:02, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
- The page was nominated for deletion via the proposed deletion process, or "prod" by Guy0307 on October 6, 2009 using the rationale that I quoted in the deletion summary: "NN product", meaning "non-notable product". After 7 days had passed with no visible objection to the deletion nomination, I deleted the page (on October 13, 2009).
- I was passing through using a category that accumulated all extant proposed deletions from October 6; I have no personal connection to the deletion. There is no prejudice against recreating the page, though it would be wise to suitably reference any recreation of the article so as to demonstrate notability and harden the article against a second deletion. If you've got any other questions, I'd be glad to answer them. {{Nihiltres|talk|edits|⚡}} 20:01, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
Highland View Academy listed for deletion
[edit]I have listed Highland View Academy for deletion. The discussion is located at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Highland View Academy. WikiManOne (talk) 05:50, 24 January 2011 (UTC)
- OK. Without prejudice, why is that relevant to me? I've never interacted with the article—as far as I can tell—based on the page history and the logs for the page. I'm bemused as to why you've contacted me about this. I'll comment on the AfD if you like, though… :) {{Nihiltres|talk|edits|⚡}} 06:32, 24 January 2011 (UTC)

Single Homeless Project (SHP)
[edit]Hi there, I'm just about to create a page for the Single Homeless Project. I believe that you deleted a similar attempt in 2009 saying that it was 'unremarkable'. Well, they may not be huge, but with an annual budget of more than £12million, they're not insignificant. Further more their page will have some decent references in national newspapers. I'd say they are worthy of a Wikipedia page. Please contact me for discussion before taking it down.--Evenmadderjon (talk) 16:11, 13 April 2011 (UTC)
- The concern you cite is not mine. If you read the deletion log entry again, you might note a link in the entry, to a page about proposed deletion. I cited verbatim the concern that was made in the deletion proposal by Abductive (talk · contribs), when merely carrying out a deletion which had remained unopposed for some time. I don't particularly mind the creation of a Wikipedia article on the subject so long as Wikipedia's guidelines and policies, such as notability, verifiability, and neutrality are followed reasonably well. You need not take a defensive or defiant tone with me; I am not antagonistic to you, nor your subject. {{Nihiltres|talk|edits|⚡}} 21:23, 13 April 2011 (UTC)
Infoboxes
[edit]Hi, I'm using mediawiki to create a new wiki, and I really want to use infoboxes! I found through the grapevine that you were the one to ask about this?? I know you have a lot of pre-made templates on Wikipedia, but in order to USE those infobox templates, you have to add a ton of new template pages to your own wiki, is that correct? I can't seem to figure out how to create an infobox basically starting from scratch on a new wiki. Any help would be great! Njohnston99 (talk) 18:58, 13 April 2011 (UTC)
- At its heart, an infobox is a table. They can be generated using either wiki markup or HTML-style markup. A good design will use table header elements for the information labels and table data elements for the data itself. However, instead of writing up the markup each time, we use template parameters instead. Thus instead of writing a new infobox for every article using one, I can write the infobox code once and then use different values for different articles, by using something like
{{{parameter_name|default value}}}
in the infobox code and then using something like{{Infobox name|parameter_name= the value I want to use}}
elsewhere. Advanced infoboxes will manipulate their own table code so that parameters can be optional: they won't appear as empty fields in the infobox if they're not given a value, instead disappearing entirely. Most of this manipulation is done through the use of the ParserFunctions extension to MediaWiki that adds logical functions that let you do things like{{#ifeq:{{{value_1}}}|{{{value_2}}}|displayed if they are equal|displayed if they are not equal}}
. - I can go into a lot more detail, but that might be too confusing. Here's a list of things you can do to start:
- Start by making a table that can hold values the way you want them to be displayed.
- Make it look prettier with CSS. You can also use the MediaWiki:Common.css page on your wiki to apply particular style rules across the entire site.
- Use template parameters for the values.
- Make the table code use parser functions to determine whether particular rows of information should be shown, or to calculate later values automatically from earlier ones.
- If you have more questions, feel free to ask. {{Nihiltres|talk|edits|⚡}} 22:13, 13 April 2011 (UTC)

Mobility-as-a-Service
[edit]Why was this entry deleted about a year ago? Does a record exist of what the entry said before its deletion? I am curious to learn more about this subject and get a good definition.
Thanks.
Max 66.94.95.18 (talk) 19:40, 12 May 2011 (UTC)
- I deleted a redirect to another nonexistent page when I deleted that page. Another later deletion was made through a deletion discussion, which you can view at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Mobility-as-a-Service. This is evident in the deletion log for the page. The article still exists; "deletion" on Wikipedia is rather a process of marking pages as such and thereby removing them from public view. Administrators can view deleted articles and even restore them. If you like, I might be able to provide by email a copy of the article from before it was deleted, though the copyright concerns voiced in the Articles for Deletion (AfD) discussion I mentioned earlier make that somewhat unlikely—that is, it might be a copyright violation on my part to do so. {{Nihiltres|talk|edits|⚡}} 23:14, 12 May 2011 (UTC)
Artwork titles in title case
[edit]Hi! I recently learned how to italicize artwork titles, but I am having trouble finding guidance on how to make the article titles include the proper capitalization of the titles of the work. For example, Blue dress park and Spirit of commerce. I want the d, p, and c capitalized. I appreciate any wisdom you can share! Jgmikulay (talk) 16:16, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
- You have to actually "move" the articles to the correct capitalization. If you're using the new "Vector" skin, the move tab should be in the drop-down list. On the move page, you'll have the opportunity to rename the page more precisely. The old name will then become a redirect to the new name. I'll move the ones you mentioned immediately. :) {{Nihiltres|talk|edits|⚡}} 15:00, 14 May 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for the instructions and for moving those! Jgmikulay (talk) 15:38, 14 May 2011 (UTC)
Del Rio, Texas UFO Crash
[edit]On 22 October 2009 you deleted the Del Rio, Texas UFO Crash article after a prod because the only WP:RS was not about this crash, but about a similar one. The book The Other Roswell: UFO Crash on the Texas-Mexico Border by Noe Torres and Ruben Uriarte covers this crash extensively, and there is a new (March 2010) interview with a Jeff Rense, who was one of the pilots in Capt. Willingham's squadron. I was wondering if it would be possible to dump a copy of the old article in my user space, User:Bejnar/Sandbox so that I can work up a properly sourced article? Right now I have sources that give the date of the crash as 5 or 6 December 1950 and 6 December 1955. The later date seems to be correct as the incident took place after Capt. Willingham was wounded in the Korean War. UFO literature being what it is, a reliable source is one that reliably reports someone's statement, rather than an absolute correspondence with "truth". Thanks in advance. --Bejnar (talk) 21:03, 13 May 2011 (UTC)

Hiding top edits
[edit]Hiya Nihiltres,
I tried out your script, which is pretty cool. I stopped using it though because I couldn't get the top edit hide thing (which was the reason that I wanted to use it) to quite work correctly. With that not working I didn't want to deal with everything else, so I just removed it. What happened was that I wanted the "hide" behavior to be the default, so I would have to click the tab to turn it off, you know? What actually happened was that, even with .top.hide() specified in the config, everything would still show up unhidden. The only thing that specifying top.hide() would do would make it so that I'd have to click the "hide top edits" button twice.
I'm on a Windows 7 box, using Firefox 4.0.1. If you get it fixed, let me know! :)
— V = IR (Talk • Contribs) 01:14, 6 June 2011 (UTC)
- I'm looking carefully into the problem, though so far I'm unable to replicate it, using Firefox 4.0.1 and Safari 5.0.5 on Mac OS X 10.6.5 . I've made one trivial change since you tried it—to change
if (nothingthree.settings.topsHidden)
toif (nothingthree.settings.topsHidden === true)
—but I don't think that ought to have made any difference. I'll ask for a look-over of the script collection on the technical Village Pump (since I'm hearing of other issues I can't replicate, elsewhere), and I'll let you know once I find out more. Thanks for the bug report. :) {{Nihiltres|talk|edits|⚡}} 14:25, 6 June 2011 (UTC)
Redirection?
[edit]Hi again! You helped me with my last question so well that I am back for more... I'd like to learn how to rename/redirect articles that were contributed through WikiProject Public Art with incorrect titles. For example, Isamu Noguchi (Sinai), which should be Sinai (Noguchi), and Memorial for Belle Austin Jacobs, which should be Belle Austin Jacobs Memorial. Can you advise me on how to repair these titles? Thanks! Jgmikulay (talk) 20:47, 9 June 2011 (UTC)
- It's the same as before: you move the articles to the new title. Redirects are automatically created from the old title to the new one as part of the move. {{Nihiltres|talk|edits|⚡}} 23:18, 9 June 2011 (UTC) (iPhone edit)

Hiding top edits (again)
[edit]Hi Nihiltres -
I'm still having a lot of trouble hiding top edits using your script (as I originally reported at Wikipedia:Village_pump_(technical)#Hiding_top_edits). It doesn't work ag all in my old safari browser (3.0.4) and is intermittent at best in 5.0.2 (it works sporadically, about 25% of the time, and clearing the cache has made no difference). Any more suggestions (bearing in mind I'm strictly an "end user" and don't know one end of a script from the other)... TIA, Grutness...wha? 00:44, 13 June 2011 (UTC)
- I'd like to solve your problem, but I haven't found a way to replicate your bug(s). Without understanding where the errors are coming from, I can't solve them. :(
- If you're willing to try some more technical stuff, I might be able to figure out what the bugs are through you. Here's what you can do:
- Make completely sure you're using the Vector skin. If not, you're not using my script in the first place—and the script is only designed to work in the Vector skin. (I'm sorry if this point is a bit stupid, but I need to be sure; the first rule of debugging is to check the obvious things first)
- In Safari 5.0.2, go to the Advanced section of the preferences and check the box marked "Show Develop menu in menu bar".
- Open a contributions page such as Special:Contributions/Grutness (since the script will only try to run on a contributions page).
- Select "Show Error Console" from the Develop menu, or press command-option-C on a Mac, or (I'm guessing wildly) ctrl-alt-c on Windows.
- Take a look at what errors are present, and tell me what they are in as much detail possible. Focus in particular on errors originating from "index.php", since my script should be loaded through that path rather than through "load.php" or some other source.
- Disable the Develop menu, close the error console pane, etc. and wait for me to freak out over the source of the error (and then hopefully fix it, one way or another).
- I've just removed a recent addition to the script collection that might be causing the problem; perhaps it'll work now. :P {{Nihiltres|talk|edits|⚡}} 13:40, 13 June 2011 (UTC)
- Ahhh. Fails at step one. I'm using MonBook skin (I can't stand the Vector skin!). So.... where would I take the problem from here? Grutness...wha? 01:34, 14 June 2011 (UTC)
- Brilliant! It works perfectly. Many thanks! Grutness...wha? 01:54, 15 June 2011 (UTC)

OTRS account.
[edit]Hi, based on this link, you are one of users with an OTRS account. I have a favour to ask from you, can you process this picture for its usage in Wikipedia? I have asked the owner to release this picture under CC BY 2.0 or CC BY 2.5 license. However, he wishes his work not to be released commercially if it used here. And I showed him this picture which has a much lower resolution than the one posted in Flickr. And he agrees to release it under few conditions. Here's the original message:
As far as to my understanding, the license attribute CC BY 2.0 or CC BY 2.5 is I am free to share (to copy, distribute and transmit the work), to remix (to adapt the work) to make commercial use of the work. With a condition that you mention the owner of the work i.e the photo. Please correct me if i am wrong.
But I am willing to let you use this photo for the links you mention in Wikipedia only and not for any other website. Is that possible? and no commercial use is allowed, but if you must use the photo for commercial purposes i should be reimburse as well from the fee.
and this is the message after I have explained the situation to him:
Anyway after looking the second (2.) example of the Taylor Swift wiki page, i think that would be much suitable. If i am not mistaken, it is under the license CC-BY-SA 3.0
If you are ok with this license then we can proceed for the use of the image in the wikipage that you mention earlier. Although i am not sure of what to do next especially in posting photos to wiki.
Here's my question, just to be clear, is it possible for the owner to release the picture under a lower resolution for Wikipedia and at the same time retaining the ownership of the higher resolution version? If it is, can you help me process this image? SyFuelIgniteBurned 18:14, 21 June 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, it's my understanding that it is possible for the owner to license a low-resolution version while retaining rights on the high-res versions. Upload a copy to Commons with {{OTRS pending}}, and get the author/owner to send an email to permissionswikimedia.org explicitly releasing the image under CC-BY-SA 3.0 or whatever free license they prefer. Send me an email with their email address, and I'll look up the email in OTRS and confirm it for you. :) {{Nihiltres|talk|edits|⚡}} 14:09, 22 June 2011 (UTC)
- I understand most of the process, except how the user can specify the usage that he only allow limited resolution version of the image in the declaration statement ? Once that clear, I'm pretty sure everything will go smoothly. SyFuelIgniteBurned 03:37, 23 June 2011 (UTC)
- I have sent an email to you with his adress, and he has sent the email to the permissionswikimedia.org for processing. SyFuelIgniteBurned 05:29, 25 June 2011 (UTC)

Undeletion of Penelope Trunk
[edit]Penelope Trunk was deleted by you in 2009 after an expired {{prod}} (see here); however, it was deleted this way despite having survived an AfD discussion in 2007. If you read that AfD discussion, you'll see that it came after a previous "prod" had been disputed. I believe it is contrary to policy for an article to be eligible for WP:PROD deletion if there had been a previous "prod" or previous AfD discussion. Therefore, this article should not have been deleted without a second AfD discussion. It should be noted that most of the negative comments in the 2007 AfD discussion are no longer relevant. There are now lots of verifiable independent third party sources about Penelope Trunk, and she is certainly notable. She's a published author; Forbes named her site one of the top websites for women in 2011[1]; she is cited in and is a contributor to several books[2]; and has no shortage of Ghits[3]. Of the press coverage of her, there were significant pieces about in the New York Times[4] and The Guardian[5] (the topic relating to Trunk in the latter article garnered a great deal of press at the time). Therefore, this article should be restored. Agent 86 (talk) 12:35, 30 June 2011 (UTC)

Inclusion of High School Violent Attack
[edit]I am trying to contact Wikipedia in regards to including my experience with High School violent attacks that dates back to March, 1982. I would have been the first survivor of such an attack. My estranged boyfriend at the time, entered our local high school, Liberty High School, Bedford, VA 24523 with a Sawed Off Shotgun. I fought and live today because of my fight. Documentation of this incident was broadcast locally and an article was written in the Bedford Bulletin newspaper.
After being gone from Bedford, VA for twenty-three years, I moved back to the mountains of VA in January, 2011. At which point, I created a memoir about this experience. The stillness and complacent atmosphere drove me to do so. While I was writing my memoir, I researched how many incidents had occurred during that period of time. I realized that there had been approximately four incidents prior to mine. I am the first to have survived such an attack though.
I am a former Language Arts teacher that as stated before, recently completed my memoir about this part of my life. Initially I submitted my book to Warwick Publishing Company of Lynchburg, Va 24501 for possible publishing. My mother had published a book of poetry with this company many years ago, and I thought that perhaps; they would be able to assist me. Joyce, of Warwick Publishing company expressed that she had her hands full and was continuing to complete the reading of the book. Lynchburg is a very small area. The individuals and businesses there, move at their own speed. Since then, I have decided to edit and publish this work myself as I majored in English and thought that perhaps; I would give it a try. I am in the third phase of editing, and it has proven to be a challenge. I am a very determined person and will complete this work within the next two weeks.
I am curious as to how to get my information documented in Wikipedia. Please contact me at jpbarnes1964@aol.com or (919) 301- 8955 with help in trying to include my experience. Thank you in advance.
Sincerely, Jackie Pullen Barnes

Markoff's Haunted Forest
[edit]Hello,
This weekend I visited Markoff's Haunted Forest attraction in maryland. I went looking for the history of it on wikipedia and saw that the article had been deleted (by you?) in 2009.
I don't know what this thing was like in 2009, but what I saw on Saturday is definitely notable. This thing has become GIGANTIC. There were thousands of people there from hundreds of miles away. It's also a pretty incredible production - there's clearly tons of painstaking weeks put into the production design of all the elements along the trail, including advanced hydraulics and pyrotechnics. The haunted hayride attraction went through the staff parking lot, there were at least 200 cars there.
I really don't say this lightly, this thing is just epic. I would argue it is definitely notable.
- It sounds like a great event. I'll take another look at it soon enough, but in most cases like this it's just that notability—in Wikipedia's special sense of the word where it means rather "documentability"—wasn't shown. If you're interested in helping out the article by finding some of that documentation, I'm willing to help you out. :) {{Nihiltres|talk|edits|⚡}} 06:27, 7 November 2011 (UTC)
Alice Clark
[edit]Seriously? Clark had a release on EMI. As with a lot of Northern Soul artists, she's been the subject of pretty heavy interest by collectors. Her 1972 S/T debut is much more important than most of the marginalia on Wikipedia.
- If you think so, please feel free to register an account and rewrite the article! There was very little material in the former article, which was one of the main reasons that I confirmed the speedy deletion nomination that had been made for that article. As written, the article didn't make evident what you suggest; it in fact consisted of two sentences total!
- I'd be glad to help you create an article if you're interested, and I can even provide you with the original article. {{Nihiltres|talk|edits|⚡}} 06:27, 7 November 2011 (UTC)
- Sorry for butting in, but I wonder why it is that I cannot view the article that was deleted Alice Clark? Ottawahitech (talk) 15:06, 7 November 2011 (UTC)
- You can't view deleted articles unless you're an administrator. {{Nihiltres|talk|edits|⚡}} 17:12, 7 November 2011 (UTC)
