Panagiotis Kavvadias - Birthdate

[edit]

Hello,

I notice that you've altered the birthdate on the Panagiotis Kavvadias article to 1848 a couple of times. The sources cited in the article give 1850, with one outlier at 1851 - I've reverted them back to 1850, since changing that date creates a breakdown of WP:TSI where the facts do not match the sources used to support them.

I can't see that you've added a source for the 1848 date. If there is one, could you add it to the article? Then, the birthdate can then be either adjusted to c.1850 with an explanation that sources disagree, or to one date or another if there is a clear reason why one set of sources should be preferred. Otherwise, sourced information should not generally be removed, and certainly shouldn't be taken out in favour of unsourced material.

From your username (and contributions), I assume you're a family member - do you have access to some sort of source that would be useful here? UndercoverClassicist (talk) 14:07, 26 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Thank you for your notes. Yes i am a family member (my great great grandfather and he were brothers) and i have his birth certificate in my procession. Unfortunately i can't post it as a document due to safety issues but i can send you a picture of it at your email. The same changes made were for gis sons Alexander Polycleitos Cawadias (wiki page in English) and Epameinondas Kavvadias ( wiki page only in Greek) which were my uncles. Thank you Nick Kavvadias NickKav (talk) 14:19, 26 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks - we're definitely in WP:WHYCITE here, since reliable secondary sources give the date as 1850 - therefore, any chance which contradicts these also needs to be cited to reliable sources. I understand if you don't want to post the image of his birth certificate publicly; hopefully, we can find at least one reliable source that also supports that date, and then make it the 'main' date of the article with a note that some sources disagree.
Happy for you to send me a Wikimail: that would be helpful in at least being sure that we're looking for the right thing.
As a separate note, it would probably be wise to make a {{Connected contributor}} declaration to that effect on the articles' talk pages. UndercoverClassicist (talk) 16:00, 26 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Will try to find a reliable source meanwhile i will send you the pic. of the certificate , it's in Greek but i am certain you will understand it. Thank you for your assistance NickKav (talk) 16:19, 26 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
