New Page Triage engagement strategy released
[edit]Hey guys!
I'm dropping you a note because you filled out the New Page Patrol survey, and indicated you'd be interested in being contacted about follow-up work. This is to notify you that we've finally released both the initial documentation about the project and also the engagement strategy, which sets out how we plan to work with the community on this. Please give both a read, and leave any comments or suggestions you have on the talkpage, on my talkpage, or in my inbox - okeyeswikimedia.org.
It's awesome to finally get to start work on this! :). Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 01:55, 3 March 2012 (UTC)

- I think I added one source to that page after hearing a news item about the subject in question. I don't really think that's been my most substantial contribution, but your appreciation is appreciated. NickCT (talk) 11:41, 28 March 2012 (UTC)
Omnipotence paradox edit
[edit]Hi again Nick,
You said I need references, but the issue is not with the existence of some fact. It's a riddle basically, this paradox, and I have my short solution which I believe is the only correct one. I can provide link to a message board thread where I discuss it but that's about it.
Alex
- Hey Alex,
- Thanks for commenting on my talkpage.
- I understand your frustration. Unfortunately, on Wikipedia we try to use verifiable information from reliable sources. That means if some theological professor publishes a "solution" in a journal or some other reliable source, it can be copied onto Wikipedia. If some random person publishes something on a message board, it shouldn't really be copied onto wikipedia; otherwise we'd start including all sorts of nonsense from people who had no clue what they are talking about!
- If you want to include the material in question, I suggest you try to find a reliable source in which it's published. Once you've done that, I'll help you cite and add the material!
- Thanks, NickCT (talk) 18:25, 29 March 2012 (UTC)

hmmm... I want to get images to sit on top of each other on the right side, but am not having much luck
[edit]Honestly don't think that's a great idea anyways, as someone will invariably argue one being over the other is biased. ¦ Reisio (talk) 17:59, 26 April 2012 (UTC)

I did not change facts.
[edit]All I did was complete a sentence and fix punctuation.137.186.43.236 (talk) 03:53, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
- I had trouble understanding your English. You made a few punctuation mistakes in your edit. If you like, please let me know what it is you feel needs to be changed and I will make the edit for you. NickCT (talk) 03:56, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
- I fixed a punctuation mistake: The first sentence was not a sentence. I did make a mistake though. Two colons were in the first sentence, and the first one should be a comma. So, for the most part, you can revert your own edit, and change the first colon to a comma, if you please. 137.186.43.236 (talk) 04:12, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
- Ok. I reverted and eliminated most of the colons. They were a little awkward. This page badly needs references. If you could provide some, particularly for the contraindication part it would be appreciated. I'm off to bed, I'll take another look at this tomorrow. Good night to you sir. - Hey Blax - I think the last time we interacted was during the Fox News Channel shenanigans. That seems like a long time back. I'm amazed the perverse wording that came out of that debate still appears on that page.
- Regardless, good to hear from you again. Hope all is well with you too. NickCT (talk) 15:26, 5 May 2012 (UTC)

timed edits
[edit]Hello Did you do it manually or there are some tool to do it?
BTW Nableezy was not so active in the same time period making very few edit but I agree with you that they probably not the same user.--Shrike (talk) 18:18, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
- I've actually designed a widget in excel that let's me compare histories fairly quickly.
- I know he wasn't active during the same period, but often times a sock will log out of one account, then immediately log into another. This leaves a tell-tale time stamp on their edits. Of course, a smart sock will be careful and avoid switching accounts in rapid succession, so the method is not fool proof. It's just circumstantial evidence (as most sock evidence is). Caribbean Community edit from January
[edit]Thanks for correcting my edit from January on the list of less developed countries in the Carribbean Community. You're right, I didn't cite a source because Wikipedia itself was my source, and the original list had no source whatsoever. However, I was looking at the LDCs which are Least developed counties, and the article was offering a list of Less developed counties—also LDCs apparently; citation needed :-) Clearly, this confusion could have been avoided had I cited the Least Developed Countries page, on which Haiti is the sole Carribbean listing. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.126.66.107 (talk) 20:09, 23 May 2012 (UTC)
Lod Airport massacre
[edit]Normally I would agree with you on the unsuitability of that source, but the cited article is an interview with an academic person whose field of specialty is Japanese society, so we're hearing the from horse's mouth, so to speak. —howcheng {chat} 02:09, 31 May 2012 (UTC)
- @howcheng - Yeah. Well I don't think the source is terrible. I'd probably give it a 4.5/10 in terms of source quality. I just feel as though "On this day" articles should rely on higher quality sources, which, you would probably agree, this is not. Thanks for giving it your attention. Aaron Alghawi
[edit]I wanted to ask how I can improve the page Aaron Alghawi. I do not want it to be deleted. I'm looking for more references and will post them as I find them, I've just been very busy. I'm trying to add more of the national committee as time permits to document the RLC as thoroughly as possible. This just happened to be my first one. — Preceding unsigned comment added by DaytonDarkhorse (talk • contribs) 01:25, 26 September 2012 (UTC)
- Hey Darkhorse,
- Welcome to Wikipedia! Feel free to drop by my page with any questions/comments/concerns you might have.
- I think a good course of action here might be for you to read and try to get a good sense of WP:NOTABLE.
- The basic issue as I see it is this. In order for person to have a page on Wikipedia, they have to be notable. Notable (in the sense we mean it on Wikipedia) means something is covered by reliable sources. Reliable source (again, in the sense we mean it on Wikipedia) means newspapers, peer reviewed materials, books, other scholarly works, etc.
- In the case of Aaron Alghawi, if you really want it to survive, you've got to point to places this guy is mentioned in newspapers, peer review materials, etc etc... Note that sites like "rlc.org" are not particularly high quality sources.
- I wish you good luck in your efforts; however, my feeling is that Mr Alghawi is probably not mentioned in many reliable sources, and hence, doesn't belong on Wikipedia.
- Hope you found this helpful.
- P.S. When you leave messages on talk pages put ~~~~ at the ends of your comment. This will sign your name. NickCT (talk) 01:40, 26 September 2012 (UTC)
Thanks Nick,
I found a couple news articles but not enough I guess. I'll post more as I find them, and save the template in case it is deleted in the interim. DaytonDarkhorse (talk) 01:43, 26 September 2012 (UTC)
- re "I found a couple news articles but not enough I guess" - Which two are those? NickCT (talk) 01:47, 26 September 2012 (UTC)
Check the reference section, there were some confirming his biographical information and one confirming the political positions section. DaytonDarkhorse (talk) 01:49, 26 September 2012 (UTC)
- I'm looking at the reference section. If one of the ones your talking about is "The Eagle" reference, there are two problems with this reference. 1) It mentions Alghawi in passing without covering any of his biographical information. 2) School newspapers (which is what I'm assuming "The Eagle" is) are very low quality sources. Can you find anything in more mainstream sources (i.e. larger reporting agencies... Fox News, CNN, Washington Post, New York Times, etc etc)? NickCT (talk) 01:54, 26 September 2012 (UTC)
The Eagle is actually the newspaper of Bryan-College Station, a twin-cities metro in Texas. DaytonDarkhorse (talk) 01:57, 26 September 2012 (UTC)
- Ok. I stand corrected. But I'll think you'll grant it's hardly a "prominent news outlet". NickCT (talk) 02:05, 26 September 2012 (UTC)
As the author of the article, am I entitled to delete it? I have requested it's deletion on the discussion page. If it doesn't meet the notability guidelines I'm sick of fighting with the people on the talk page I just want it wiped. I'll use more scrutiny next time I write an article. DaytonDarkhorse (talk) 08:40, 27 September 2012 (UTC)
- I think your comment here was the right thing to do. It should get deleted in the near future. I'm sorry this experience wasn't great for you. Please don't let it put you off Wikipedia. NickCT (talk) 12:48, 27 September 2012 (UTC)
