Things dan is mad at
I obviously don't disagree with the deletion at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Book:Things dan is mad at, but I doubt it was an attack page - I'd guess either the author is Dan, or it's someone using Wikipedia to host an RPG of some kind. At some point someone - I do not volunteer to be that someone - really needs to go through the list and cull there garbage from bookspace; I'm firmly of the belief that we could delete the lot and nothing of value would be lost. ‑ Iridescent 10:22, 15 March 2020 (UTC)
- The author was Hank. I checked that. What the precise relationship is between Hank and Dan will be one of the unsolved riddles of the ages. On the bigger picture, I had forgotten that "bookspace" was still being used. Regards, Newyorkbrad (talk) 12:01, 15 March 2020 (UTC)
March 18, 7pm: ONLINE WikiWednesday Salon NYC | |
---|---|
You are invited to join the Wikimedia NYC community for our monthly "WikiWednesday" evening salon (7-9pm) and knowledge-sharing workshop. This month, as part of Wikimedia NYC's commitment to the well-being of members, we will hold WikiWednesday online via Zoom videoconferencing! To join the meeting from your computer or smartphone, just visit this link. More information about how to connect is available on the meetup page. We look forward to seeing local Wikimedians, but would also like to invite folks from the greater New York metropolitan area (and beyond!) who might not typically be able to join us in person! Is there a project you'd like to share? A question you'd like answered? A Wiki* skill you'd like to learn? Let us know by adding it to the agenda.
We especially encourage folks to add your 5-minute lightning talks to our roster, and otherwise join in the "open space" experience! Newcomers are very welcome! Bring your friends and colleagues! --Wikimedia New York City Team 04:37, 17 March 2020 (UTC) |

Timely food for thought: this essay by Iridescent. Newyorkbrad (talk) 12:20, 17 March 2020 (UTC)
- I assume they all already have this talkpage watched, but you could do worse than draw the attention of all members of the committee and the assorted clerks, functionaries, and general wannabees, to my comments there. There are a lot of current admins, including some members of the committee, who even in normal times give the strong impression of wanting to enforce WP:Civility without ever having actually read it, and these are not normal times. (As I write this, there's a full-scale flame-war raging on Wikipedia talk:Talk page guidelines of all places, and the longer people are cooped up in their houses with nothing to distract them from arguing with strangers on the internet, the more we're going to see of this kind of thing.) ‑ Iridescent 14:58, 17 March 2020 (UTC)
- On the more optimistic side, perhaps circumstances will cause some among us to adjust their priorities and become more considerate in their interaction with fellow human beings. We could see a counterbalance to Iri's argument. I have been happy to observe in recent weeks many more admins willing to remind their fellow admins when they need to tone it down. - I would hope that Sandy will be proved right. I'm seeing lots of people in real life being considerate to each other, worrying over others misfortune, and quite a lot of stoicism. Mind you, I ran out of flour yesterday and the supermarket was cleared out. I won't go hungry, there was no problem getting bread instead. But I'm really not sure how much my customary civility on this site depends on my pummeling soggy Triticum every three days or so. I suspect that pretty much everyone here has far worse than that going on in their off wiki lives at the moment. ϢereSpielChequers 20:55, 17 March 2020 (UTC)
