tks
Thanks for your comments about my "proposal" on the community desysop. I'm really not much into the politics side of things here on Wikipedia (thank God!), and I see that my idea *could* be used to punish good admins who make hard calls on troublesome editors. I was thinking that the community would smack down abuses of my proposal. Perhaps I have too much faith in the community. :-) Anyhow, cheers. - Thanks for your note. I think the overall community usually would get the ultimate decisions right in that sort of set-up, but just a couple of people cause far too much disruption and distraction along the way. Regards, Newyorkbrad (talk) 02:37, 7 August 2015 (UTC)

Driving me nuts
I *think* there's an actual term for when someone (usually a lawyer) argues something like: My client didn't bump into the defendant's car, but even if he did, that dent was already there. Where you argue that even if your basic defense is wrong, you're still innocent. I thought it was "arguing the counterfactual", but that apparently isn't it. Do you know what I'm talking about? I've been trying to remember the right turn of phrase and can't. --Floquenbeam (talk) 11:30, 14 August 2015 (UTC)
- See argument in the alternative, alternative pleading, and arguendo. Regards, Newyorkbrad (talk) 12:12, 14 August 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you. If I'd asked you last night, I would have had a better night's sleep. It was there on the tip of my tongue. --Floquenbeam (talk) 12:14, 14 August 2015 (UTC)
- Ha! I just realized that last night, when I did the best I could to come up with a term that would at least give the right flavor, I accidentally got it right! --Floquenbeam (talk) 12:38, 14 August 2015 (UTC)
