Magna Graecia
[edit]Thank you for fixing the Syracuse link on this page. Etz Haim 04:11, 21 Sep 2004 (UTC)
"the Elymian language, which some would consider related to Ligurian or to Anatolian." Would you be a little more specific here please. Even identify "Some" perhaps. "How" would help. Perhaps you'd best begin the Elymian entry. And please add an External Link to help us out. Thank you. Wetman 06:13, 21 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Images
[edit]- There are a handful of images you have uploaded that are missing copyright tags. If you have a couple of minutes could you mark what license they are released under? The images in question are listed below. - SimonP 17:59, Nov 22, 2004 (UTC)
- Image:Syracuse Downtown.jpg
- Image:Syracuse Westcott.jpg
- Image:SyracuseTipperaryMonument.jpg
- Image:Syracuse South Crouse Ave.jpg
- Image:Syracuse Marshall Street.jpg
- The basic license is the GFDL. To release a photo under this license simply add GFDL to the page for each image. A full list of other valid images and tags is available at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags. - SimonP 00:00, Nov 30, 2004 (UTC)
Article Licensing
[edit]Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 2000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:
- Multi-Licensing FAQ - Lots of questions answered
- Multi-Licensing Guide
- Free the Rambot Articles Project
To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:
- Option 1
- I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
- DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual
OR
- Option 2
- I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
- DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual
Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)
Know much about Vestal hamlets ?
[edit]Hey, there's some new weirdness in the description of communities in Vestal, New York (See talk). I thought you might be able to straighten them out. I'm an Owego native myself, so I know enough that something is screwy, but not enough to be an authority. Also related: 5 corners? (4 corners + front street) I've never ever heard that. ccwaters 22:49, 16 September 2005 (UTC)
Image Tagging for Image:Vestal New York Seal.gif
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Vestal New York Seal.gif. However, the copyright tag you've used is deprecated or obsolete, and should not be used. This could be because the tag is inaccurate or misleading, or because it does not adequately specify the copyright status of the image. For a list of copyright tags that are in current use, see the "Public domain", "Free license", and "Fair use" sections of Wikipedia:Image copyright tags.

Psst...
[edit]You left this message on Equick's user page, rather than Equick's talk page. Just thought you might like to know. —D-Rock 09:44, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

Straw poll situation
[edit]There's a new straw poll going on here. You'll probably want to vote ; ) AdamBiswanger1 16:55, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
a page of interest...
[edit]Good point on the Talk:hot dog. Have you checked out hot dog variations? It has some info on international variations, but there is always room for more. Cheers. youngamerican (ahoy-hoy) 12:06, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
The democrat and republican logos were improperly tagged as gfdl-self. I've retagged them appropriately as logos, and re-removed them from the Syracuse article. --Durin 14:09, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
Hey
[edit]So I'm going to SU next year. Any advice? easiest classes? Best professors? Oh and one more important thing: Every building/institution has that one really clean bathroom hidden away that no one uses and no one knows exists. Where is it in Syracuse? AdamBiswanger1 20:11, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
- Schmitz...I'll remember that when scheduling for second semester. By the way I'm not paranoid about bathrooms or anything...it's just nice to find that quiet, out-of-the-way place to take care of business.
Anyway, I'm sure I will end up dropping a class at some point, b/c, yea I don't want to end up with "hell and a bad grade".
Well, thanks for your advice. I'm sure I'll see you around wiki. BTW Austria is great (especially Salzburg)--never been to Vienna, though. AdamBiswanger1 20:41, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
- Yea so I just got some info in the mail today and my dorm is like Sky hall on the south campus or something like that. How does that rate with other dorms? Is the south campus totally cut off from the main? AdamBiswanger1 22:26, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
- Yea I mean I can live with living away from the rest of the campus and being slightly out of the loop, but taking that bus every effin day is gonna be a pain in the ass, especially considering I'll have to deduct an additional 10-15 minutes per day from my sleep (assuming I have a morning class). And if I have like an hour between classes, it's not enough time to go back to my dorm and too much time to go straight to the next class. Hmm let's do some math-10 minutes per ride, at least twice per day, at least 5 times per week= at least 62/3 hours per month on the bus. Oh plus there's the fact that the for my first year I won't know who I'm going to sit next to, or the guy next to me will have BO and a huge bag. I know, I sound like a complaining bitch. I'm really not as bothered by it as I sound--
- But so long as my roommate doesn't turn out to be my best friend, and so long as I don't decide that I like the south campus for some reason, I think I'll ask for a transfer, like you suggested. (somewhere near the bathroom you told me about) AdamBiswanger1 00:45, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

I concur wholeheartedly!
[edit]'My GPA must have been at least half a point lower last year because of all the hours I spent on Wikipedia every day. Then again, it probably also was boosted half a point my the random knowledge I gained.'

Proposed Georgia Move
[edit]As a past participant in the discussion on how to handle the Georgia pages, I thought you might be interested to know that there's a new attempt to reach consensus on the matter being addressed at Talk:Georgia (country)#Requested_Move_-_July_2006. Please come by and share your thoughts to help form a consensus. --Vengeful Cynic 04:01, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
Re: Syracuse William F. Walsh Regional Transportation Center
[edit]I'm not sure I understand what you're saying; could you clarify? All of the routes in question have a definite east-west orientation, dating back to the New York Central era. I can accept that maybe the Maple Leaf might pose a problem, as it's the only route that doubles back (as it approaches Toronto), but I don't see why there shouldn't be much more consistency than currently exists. --CComMack 19:29, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
- I'm already working my way towards New York Penn. --CComMack 19:36, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
Well, I got the bright idea to move this subheading to its own (list) article and expand it, forgetting for a moment just how many festivals, expos, weekends, days, events, fairs, get-togethers, celebrations, and who knows what else we actually have here. Anyways, I just wanted to let you know that I AM actually planning on making this look decent and comprehensive; but I just wanted to give you a heads-up. -- Gizzakk 23:31, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
Image tagging for Image:CarrierDomeConstr.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:CarrierDomeConstr.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

I have added info to the article that help establishes notability, and I was hoping you may re-visit the AfD. Please respond at the AfD rather than this talk page, since I am leaving this message for several editors. Thank you! PT (s-s-s-s) 18:38, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
XXX people Categories
[edit]I noticed that you voted to oppose the renaming of Category:Hong Kong people. You may also be interested in voting on these other nominations:
- Wikipedia:Categories_for_deletion/Log/2006_August_6#Category:Shanghainese_people
- Wikipedia:Categories_for_deletion/Log/2006_August_7#Category:Zhongshanese_people
I feel the nominations are incorrectly applied because they do not say anything about nationality, and they include people who do not live in the places in question, so it's not an issue of residency either. These templates are essentially about ancestry. --- Hong Qi Gong 03:13, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
Comair Flight 5191

Helmut Zilk -- thanks!
[edit]... for filling me in. Good thing the partial and incorrect info I started with was enough to prompt your response; I can now revise the archival caption based on the page. Glad I asked, and I appreciate your assistance! If you ever need anything in my areas of expertise, feel free to contact me. -- Deborahjay 03:04, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
Do you have an update on the airport? The AirNav page says that it's open now. Cheers. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 20:26, 25 September 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for seeing that. I updated the page to say closed.

[edit]Butterley Tunnel
[edit]Dear Kai
Since you last viewed the Butterley Tunnel page and voted to delete, it has been expanded considerably, citations are in place and photos have been added. Would you consider changing your vote to Keep. The Cromford Canal page already has smaller daughter atricles than this.

Image copyright problem with Image:SyracusePandCStadium.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:SyracusePandCStadium.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).
The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: TemplateName
. If you have not already done so, please also include the source of the image. In many cases this will be the website where you found it.
Please specify the copyright information and source on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ccwaters 22:02, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

Syracuse
[edit]Bathrooms... Eggers (part of the Maxwell complex): 5th floor... Single stall, unisex, no one uses it. Remember that conversation about the best bathrooms at SU? Guess where I am now. Well, I'm outside of it-- I wouldn't take my laptop into the bathroom (or would I?) But anyway it's pretty nice. There's like no one on this floor, like you said. So, just for fun, let me tell you my professors in case you've had any of them. I got Druger (Bio), Brown (logic), Luther (writing), Foster (music), and Dodds (spanish). Any ring a bell? Orphaned fair use image (Image:CarrierDome NY 167 4Z.gif)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:CarrierDome NY 167 4Z.gif. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Fritz S. (Talk) 16:06, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
Image:SyracuseStrathmoreHouse.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:SyracuseStrathmoreHouse.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add
Replaceable fair use disputed
, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. bogdan 18:53, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
