Seems like I remember that you're an administrator. User Qweqwewe has been causing a number of problems on the Taiwan related site. His talk page has complaints from a few users and seems unresponsive to them. Any suggestions? Readin (talk) 21:26, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

Romanian ?!

Hello Nat !

Why Romanian ?! I just can't see why would someone want to learn Romanian ... PS: I'm Romanian ...

Toate cele bune,

Chris

Hi Nat; oh those tour guides. I've put in a request to change Fête nationale du Québec to Saint Jean Baptiste Day. You may wish to join or observe (whatever it is that admins do) the discussion at the Talk Page; Mathieugp (talk+ · tag · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log · CA · CheckUser(log· investigate · cuwiki) has tried to move the page unilaterally so I though it best to formalize the process. --soulscanner (talk) 07:01, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

A little update about this dispute. I've asked some dissenting editors to acknowledge the Wikipedia naming conventions that emphasize that article titles should be the ones that are most recognizable to English-speakers[1]. If they do not, I think we should ask for a Request for comment as the next step in solving this dispute, as such a refusal could constitute bad faith. It will require at least two editors to start the process. Thank you. --soulscanner (talk) 19:46, 5 July 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the welcome, but...

I've been here for quite awhile. Thanks for the welcome, which I appreciate, but I am in a few WikiProjects, most notably the Legend of Zelda one.PokeHomsar (talk) 19:33, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

Liberal

The term liberal to me is not offensive, as conservative isn't offensive to me. I call that an accurate label, not an offensive one, when it describes someone with left-leaning ideology.PokeHomsar (talk) 19:58, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

What exactly d you want me to change/remove?

I've been approached on this before. The other admins said my page was fine when Blaxthos brought it up, so I really don't know what you want me to change.PokeHomsar (talk) 03:36, 4 July 2008 (UTC)

OK.

OK. I don't have to change your user page as some admins said it was OK a few days ago. Even Blaxthos, who is like scrutinizing my every post to find a violation of Wiki rules, said it was "OK." Thanks for your concern, but I'll see how the story develops.PokeHomsar (talk) 05:57, 4 July 2008 (UTC)

Hi Nat... just for clarity, no one has ever said his userpage was "okay". What I did say is that the userpage is less of a concern than is his battlefield mentality and POV-warriorism. Another admin at ANI suggested we allow his userpage to remain so that unfamiliar editors may easily identify the POV-influenced nature of his posts instead of bending backwards too far to assume good faith. Seemed reasonable to me... /Blaxthos ( t / c ) 11:54, 4 July 2008 (UTC)

Off-topic thread at Talk:Quebec

I believe you would indeed be doing everyone a favor by removing the entire thread about the Intolerable Acts; there is far too much ad hominem and soapboxing in the thread and far too little substance. I involved myself by trying to tell one of the editors to refrain from personal attacks, but he seems to think he is justified to violate NPA. I think the intervention of an uninvolved admin would be required.--Ramdrake (talk) 18:13, 18 July 2008 (UTC)

Beijing

Hi Nat, I'm in the process of trying to improve the article of Beijing right now. Seen the article's quality is pretty subpar. I re-organized the opening section with contents and references from the "Peking (Beijing)" article from the Encyclopædia Britannica (15th edition)'s Macropædia, however, User:Nikkul, keeps removing the contents in which I guess he saw it as "unencyclopedic" without given really good explanations (removed unencyclopedic info in intro). Could you gave your input and come to the article for assistence.--TheLeopard (talk) 18:31, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

Please help me mark references. Thank you.

Dear Nat:

I am the author of this article: Union of Chinese Nationalists. See the article on Wikipedia:

http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Union_of_Chinese_Nationalists

This political organization in mainland China currently has registered members of 3,913 (Aug. 9th, 2008) and continues to expand rapidly. By the end of this year, the organization is supposed to have exceeded 5,000 registered members. Most members prefer to have their aliases registered for their own safety reasons; however, it appears to be a factual effective online organization well known by China's Ministry of National Security (China's leading intelligence headquarter). I can honestly tell you that even Chinese President Hu Jintao has ever heard about the organization.

The following references are available for this article but I have great difficulties to add references to the article since I am not very familiar with Wikipedia editor policy. Please help me mark references. Thank you.

Sincerely;

Yu, Hung-Hsuan from Taipei, Taiwan on Aug. 9th, 2008

WP:CANADA banner

Hi Nat,

I've been giving the WP:CANADA (& Portal:Canada) pages a bit of a sprucing up. As part of that I've created a new ad for Wikipedia ads. I was wondering if you could upload it as a new version of the one currently being used? Much simpler than going through a whole rigmarole of deletes and renames and moves.

Is the new banner. There was nothing wrong with your version, I was just aiming for something that fit with the new bits and pieces I've come up with that people seem to like. Let me know if you'd rather not. Cheers! roux ] [x] 13:18, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

CALL TO REFORM: 2) Please do not add Simplified and Hanyu Pinyin to the infobox (OUTDATED)

Salut!, Ça va?

My french aint really good... lol.

K, Id like to ammend that article of the guidelines because Hanyu Pinyin is NOW (since 01-01-2009) the official romanization system in the ROC (Taiwan)... The sources are available in both the Hanyu Pinyin article and the Tongyong Pinyin one.. Tongyong is now no longer official... Plus, you could also use google news...

Would u consider:

NEW 2) Please do not add Simplified and Tongyong Pinyin to the infobox

I guess that if I unilaterally change the Jhongua Minguo to Zhonghua Minguo, u would accuse me of vandalism, or any other contributor would revert...

County governments are being compelled to switch to Hanyu too... Just read the sources...

Au revoire... (Is that correct?)Gumuhua (talk) 23:47, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

Just an update: another contributor, Pyl, changed the Tongyong to Hanyu in the infobox, I think furhter debate is not needed, cause the sources agree with such a move... Do u agree?

We should change the ROC-related articles guidelines about Tongyong-Hanyu... U ask for debate before making any unilateral movement, so Im waiting for ur POV on the matter... Cya!! Gumuhua (talk) 02:18, 3 January 2009 (UTC)

Canadian Code of Arms Shield

Hi Nat,

You have requested that the Canadian Coat of Arms Shield image be removed.

There have been no changes to the SHIELD since 1921 and therefore this shield is current and accurate.

There have been changes to the Canadian Coat of Arms other then the shield:

1957 : Canada's arms were slightly modified to produce a cleaner more contemporary design, the Government replaced the original Tudor crown of the 1921 design by a crown that would represent not just one of the royal families of English monarchs, but centuries of kings and queens of England.

July 12, 1994 : augmented with a ribbon with the motto of the Order of Canada: "Desiderantes Meliorem Patriam". (They desire a better country).

Please refer to http://www.pch.gc.ca/pgm/ceem-cced/symbl/arm2-eng.cfm#a1

I noticed a slight difference with the 1957 shield to the current one, however, I decided to redraw the shield to address the concerns at Commons:Deletion requests/File:Canadian Coat of Arms Shield.svg. Now, I want to hear your thoughts. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 18:19, 15 October 2009 (UTC)

Hello, thank you for uploading your photos to Wikimedia Commons. However, I noticed that you made this revert on Commons without a stated reason. Just wanted to let you know how categories are supposed to work and the problem with overcategorization. In short, you should only put an image in the most specific categories and not in the higher levels. You can read more about overcategorization at COM:OVERCAT. I have undone the changes and recategorized other images you uploaded for the same reason, so no further action is necessary. Thank you. Jphillips23 (talk) 00:21, 6 May 2010 (UTC)

Hi there...When I went to read about the above, the website told me that the article had been deleted and that you were the editor who deleted it. I do not know if the old article was any good; perhaps its low quality was such that it did not merit inclusion. If I prepare a new article on Yok Mu-ming, leader of the ROC "New Party" and post it here, would you do me the favour of creating the article (I cannot create articles as I am not a registered user here and my preference is not to register). Would you do that for me? I will ensure whatever I propose to post is well referenced etc and try to make it a fairly decent article. If you agree in principle, just let me konw and I will try to create it at the weekend. Thanks. 84.203.69.75 (talk) 20:45, 13 June 2011 (UTC)

MSU Interview

Dear Nat,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the communityHERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your nameHERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Extended confirmed protection

Hello, Nat. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.

Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.

In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:

  • Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
  • A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.

Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.
This message was sent to the administrators' mass message list. To opt-out of future messages, please remove yourself from the list. 17:48, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

Two-Factor Authentication now available for admins

Hello,

Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. A new user right for New Page Patrollers

Hi Nat.

A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.

It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.

If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. (Sent to all admins).MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:47, 15 November 2016 (UTC)

Administrator account security (Correction to Arbcom 2019 special circular)

ArbCom would like to apologise and correct our previous mass message in light of the response from the community.

Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they are required to "have strong passwords and follow appropriate personal security practices." We have updated our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. In particular, two-factor authentication remains an optional means of adding extra security to your account. The choice not to enable 2FA will not be considered when deciding to restore sysop privileges to administrator accounts that were compromised.

We are sorry for the wording of our previous message, which did not accurately convey this, and deeply regret the tone in which it was delivered.

For the Arbitration Committee, -Cameron11598 21:04, 4 May 2019 (UTC)
