Deletion of an assigenment
[edit]Hi you recently deleted our page on Jon Mckenzie, to which we opposed but you still did anyway. As explained we are two students from the University of Hull and we have been given an assignement on Jon Mckenzie to which we have to place a Wikipedia page about him on Wikipedia. Our research only begun today and we were only given this topic today, so our research only was little and we were going to build it up. we think its incredibly unfair to delete it, especially when i mentioned it was an assignment which is marked and is important, as well as this Jon Mckenzie is a noted performance theorist and has written many books on the subject and is noted highly in the theatre industry. We request you please establish our page again so we can continue and we will gradually build up our research content on the page as we ourselves build up our research material. Thank and please note how important this page is to us as we would not of been given him to study if he was not of great relevance. --Stephanie Pearson (talk) 14:06, 8 October 2010 (UTC)
- I haven't deleted any pages in quite a few months. If it's been more than three months then I recommend re-trying creation, this time ensuring inclusion guidelines are met. Regards, NJA (t/c) 11:00, 11 October 2010 (UTC)

London Wikimedia Fundraiser
[edit]Good evening! This is a friendly message from Chase me ladies, I'm the Cavalry, inviting you to the London Wikimedia Fundraising party on 19th December 2010, in approximately one week. This party is being held at an artistic London venue with room for approximately 300 people, and is being funded by Ed Saperia, a non-Wikipedian who has a reputation for holding exclusive events all over London. This year, he wants to help Wikipedia, and is subsidising a charity event for us. We're keen to get as many Wikimedians coming as possible, and we already have approximately 200 guests, including members of the press, and some mystery guests! More details can be found at http://twiki.riteme.site/wiki/London - expect an Eigenharp, a mulled wine hot tub, a free hog roast, a haybale amphitheatre and more. If you're interested in coming - and we'd love to have you - please go to the ten.wikipedia page and follow the link to the Facebook event. Signing up on Facebook will add you to the party guestlist. Entry fee is a heavily subsidised £5 and entry is restricted to over 18s. It promises to be a 10th birthday party to remember! If you have any questions, please email me at chasemewiki at gmail.com.
Hope we'll see you there, (and apologies for the talk page spam) - Chase me ladies, I'm the Cavalry (talk) 23:37, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

Nova Scotian Settlers (Sierra Leone)
[edit]Last year you issued a warning to the a user about edits to the article Nova Scotian Settlers (Sierra Leone). I am afraid the same issue is coming up again despite a seeming consensus on the discussion page and previous warnings. I don’t know if there is anything you can do but it is frustrating to have referenced edits arbitrarily removed.Letterofmarque (talk) 17:52, 17 February 2011 (UTC)
March 2011 GAN backlog elimination drive a week away
[edit]WikiProject Good Articles will be running a GAN backlog elimination drive for the entire month of March. The goal of this drive is to bring the number of outstanding Good Article nominations down to below 50. This will help editors in restoring confidence to the GAN process as well as actively improving, polishing, and rewarding good content. If you are interested in participating in the drive, please place your name here. Awards will be given out to those who review certain numbers of GANs as well as to those who review the most. On behalf of my co-coordinator Wizardman, we hope we can see you in March. MuZemike delivered by MuZebot 00:07, 22 February 2011 (UTC)
A question
[edit]So people have to be punished twice for the same "crime", despite that the edit warring you're referring to happened one year ago?
About a year ago you semi-protected freak I imagine the IP vandal has long since gone, so it might be an idea to remove the semi protection. After all, the article's a shambles anyway, it could do with a bit of clearing up, and the more people who can, the better Veggieburgerfish (talk) 12:21, 25 February 2011 (UTC)

Requesting your feedback and advice on a new Article I have created
[edit]Hi,
You had advised me sometime back on an article that I had created. Among others, I had keenly observed your feedback and implemented stuff accordingly. Just wanted your feedback on a new Wiki that I have created. Does it meet Wiki standards? Does it suffice? It's a new article and I will be posting more content about it in the next few days. I am a graphic novel enthusiast (love the genre) and am naturally excited that India is waking up to Graphic novels and this Wiki is about a particularly good graphic novel company. Would appreciate your comments and feedback (and help!) Link: http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User:Varunr/Level10_Comics

Julie Frith deserves a wiki page.
[edit]Hello, I am new here and would like to make a Wiki page for the artist Julie Frith. She has been making kinetic sculpture for 14 years, now has a book as well as a fantastic website of her art. Please help me to make her a well constructed wiki page. Here is the words I want said. The words are not anywhere on the net, and I would like help putting this page together. _____
Julie Frith is best known for her kinetic art mobile sculptures. She grew up in an artistic household in Champaign-Urbana, Ill. Her father, Donald, was a professor of ceramics at the University of Illinois; her mother, Barbara, a painter and sculptor. Julie’s parents instilled in her an appreciation of art and artistic design, and they encouraged their daughter to pursue her own artistic interests through college and as a professional designer.
Influenced by the work of Alexander Calder, Julie began making mobiles for fun. It didn’t take long before what she enjoyed doing turned into a profession, and in 1998 she started selling her own unique line of mobile sculptures. Where Calder had used metals and paint, Julie chose to make her mobiles of polished plastics and stainless steel. Her pieces sprang from ideas like making modern art for children that would last from infancy through adulthood.
Julie created the first online custom-colored mobiles and stabiles, where buyers could pick colors to match their décor. Gallery buyers, interior designers and architects were able to easily display available options to their clients. She and her husband, Brian, began making and selling mobiles around the world—and soon daughter Anna joined the family business.
Clients have included Disney, Paramount [Studios?], Universal Pictures, Fox [Searchlight? the TV network?], Design Craftsmen, Kids II, Calvin Klein, Starbucks and the Hard Rock Hotel. Julie’s mobiles have appeared on television, in major magazines like Architectural Digest and on the covers of college textbooks. Her sculptures have been used as awards in ceremonial presentations to architects and other designers.
MSU Interview
[edit]Dear NJA,
My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the communityHERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.
So a few things about the interviews:
- Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
- Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
- All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
- All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
- The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.
Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your nameHERE instead.
If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.
Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.
Sincerely,
Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.11.206.39 (talk) 03:37, 21 February 2012 (UTC)

Abuse Filter on the Article Feedback Tool
[edit]Hey there :). You're being contacted because you're an edit filter manager, At the moment, we're developing Version 5 of the Article Feedback Tool, which you may or may not have heard about. If you haven't; for the first time, this will involve a free-text box where readers can submit comments :). Obviously, there's going to be junk, and we want to minimise that junk. To do so, we're working the Abuse Filter into the tool.
For this to work, we need people to write and maintain filters. I'd be very grateful if you could take a look at the discussion here and the attached docs, and comment and contribute! Thanks :). Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 18:25, 17 April 2012 (UTC)
Non-free rationale for File:Ws scr 07.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Ws scr 07.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 19:58, 3 June 2012 (UTC)
WikiProject Good articles (Participant Clean-Up)
[edit]Hello, you are receiving this message because you are currently a participant of WikiProject Good articles. Since the creation of the WikiProject, over 200 user's have joined to help review good article nominations and contribute to other sections of the WikiProject. Over the years, several of these users have stopped reviewing articles and/or have become inactive with the project but are still listed as participates. In order to improve communications with other participants and get newsletters sent out faster (newsletters will begin to be sent out monthly starting in October) all participants that are no longer active with the WikiProject will be removed from the participants list.
If you are still interested in being a participant for this WikiProject, please sign your user name here and please help review some articles so we can reduce the size of the backlog. If you are no longer interested, you do not need to sign your name anywhere and your name will be removed from the participants list after the deadline. Remember that even if you are not interested at this time, you can always re-add your name to the list whenever you want. The deadline to sign your name on the page above will be November 1, 2012. Thank-you. 13:31, 22 September 2012 (UTC)
Update for: WikiProject Good articles (Participant Clean-Up)
[edit]Sorry for having to send out a second message but a user has brought to my attention that a point mentioned in the first message should be clarified. Sorry for any confusion.--Dom497 (talk)15:20, 22 September 2012 (UTC)

Deletion of MathScriptor Article
[edit]Dear Sir,
My understanding is that you deleted the article on MathScriptor about a year ago. This is a program that I wrote primarily for education, and is used in at least six countries both for scientific computing (numerical methods mostly) and teaching scientific programming. It is free and available at www.mathscriptor.org.
I am wondering if we could make a second attempt at an article on this program. Would you be willing to help by reviewing it?
Thanks for your time, best wishes, Bob Birge

On 20 January 2010 you deleted CLIPSAS as a G12 violation. I've resurrected this article (hopefully without any copyright issues). Would you be able to restore the edit history so that I can go through old edits to see if there are some worthwhile facts, images and sources that I could reuse?

Please comment on each proposal (or as many as you can) here.
At this time, Proposal 1, 3, and 5 have received full (or close to) support. If you have questions of anything general (not related to one specif proposal), please leave a message under the General discussion thread. Please note that Proposal 2 has been withdrawn and no further comments are needed. Also, please disregard Proposal 9 as it was never an actual proposal. |
WikiProject Good Articles Recruitment Centre
[edit] Hello! Now, some of you might be wondering why there is a Good article icon with a bunch of stars around (to the right). The answer? WikiProject Good articles will be launching a Recruitment Centre very soon! The centre will allow all users to be taught how to review Good article nominations by experts just like you! However, in order for the Recruitment Centre to open in the first place, we need some volunteers:
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to seeing this program bring new reviewers to the Good article community and all the positive things it will bring along. A message will be sent out to all recruiters regarding the date when the Recruitment Centre will open when it is determined. The message will also contain some further details to clarify things that may be a bit confusing.--Dom497 (talk) This message was sent out by --EdwardsBot (talk) 01:10, 4 June 2013 (UTC) |

GAN December 2013 Backlog Drive
[edit] Hello! A GAN Backlog Drive will begin in less than 4 days! In past Backlog Drives, the goal was to reduce the backlog of Good article nominations. In the upcoming drive, another goal will be added - raising as much money as we can for the Wikimedia Foundation. How will this work? Well, its pretty simple. Any user interested in donating can submit a pledge at the Backlog Drive page (linked above). The pledge should mention the amount of money the user is willing to donate per review. For example, if a user pledges 5 cents per review and 100 nominations are reviewed, the total donation amount is $5.00. At the time this message was sent out, two users have submitted pledges for a total of 8 cents per review. All pledges, no matter how much money, are greatly appreciated. Also, in no way is this saying you must make a pledge. |
Notification of pending suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivity
[edit]Following a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative permissions of users who have been inactive for one year (i.e. administrators who have not made any edits or logged actions in over one year). As a result of this discussion, your administrative permissions will be removed pending your return if you do not return to activity within the next month. If you wish to have these permissions reinstated should this occur, please post to the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e. as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised, that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions, and that you have not been inactive for a three year period of time). If you remain inactive for a three year period of time, including the present year you have been inactive, you will need to request reinstatement at WP:RFA. This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts.
