Photos

[edit]

Thanks for uploading some New Orleans photos - we need more people doing that! Perhaps you could share some photos you take under free licenses on Wikimedia Commons, so they can be used not only here but all the other languages of Wikipedias and other Wikimedia projects? If you have any questions I might help with, feel free to ask. Red beans & ricely, -- Infrogmation (talk) 02:47, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hopefully I've now fixed that for the two photos I uploaded today. The upload process changed since I last used it, and I think it now lacks the semi-automated procedure to select an appropriate tag or whatever, which was formerly there. [ETA] Somehow (maybe there was a DPReview.com article that sent me somewhere?) a while back I found a list of local Wikipedia photo requests, from which there were four I thought I could / would fulfill. Today I did two. St. Aug High and a Whitney clock remain on my list. But now I can't figure out how I found the list of local photo request tags. Following up on your 'need more' point would be simplified if you can point me there. Thanks! N'Awlins Contrarian 03:59, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Cool, thanks for the reply. I've mostly used Special:UploadWizard for uploading to Commons, but whatever works for you. I think we have a fair number of photos of Whitney clocks, at least a couple of good ones - Commons doesn't have a separate category for Whitney clocks, but you can find them in Commons:Category:Street clocks in Louisiana. (If you think it would be useful to make a subcategory, feel free to make one.) What specifically is being requested we don't have regarding St. Aug High at Commons:Category:St. Augustine High School, New Orleans? BTW, good job with your McMain photo - I've never gotten a photo of the beautiful front facade I was satisfied with. Cheers, -- Infrogmation (talk) 15:07, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
In the past I've submitted to Wikipedia not WM Creative Commons because it was simpler. I understand that people would prefer the latter, and I don't even so much object to it, as to the extra hassle I've encountered in submitting then using in Wikipedia articles. Maybe that mostly reflects my own ignorance and/or inexperience.
The St. Aug and Whitney clock requests I noted were at the respective Wikipedia pages, not WMCC:
https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Talk:St._Augustine_High_School_(New_Orleans)
and
https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Talk:Whitney_National_Bank
Maybe they've already been filled, and/or maybe there's something suitable at WMCC of which the requestors were unaware.
As for the McMain photo, if you're interested, I can explain the process. It's not really that complicated, but I do plan these things out. N'Awlins Contrarian 18:50, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I've done those 2 photo requests from existing images on Commons (and a couple of others as well). It seems some folks here don't bother to check if photos are already available on Commons, and people on Commons (including me) don't check regularly enough if something they've uploaded has an upstanding request on en:w. By the way, I get some requests on my Commons talk page Commons:User talk:Infrogmation. I seldom have any reason to go out to Eastern New Orleans any more - if you do, you might get a requested pic of the new "Franklin Avenue Baptist Church". Or any other New Orleans subjects you care to photograph and share - I'm sometimes pleasantly surprised at uses people find for some of my pix. Happy photographing! -- Infrogmation (talk) 16:32, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for File:Eleanor McMain Secondary School front view.jpeg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Eleanor McMain Secondary School front view.jpeg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 03:30, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
