nahuatl
[edit]hey, do you kow any good books on nahuatl, or any good info on the net?(in english) I've been to a few on the net but haven't found much on modern nahuats and the extent of their cultural survival.Domsta333 10:59, 3 May 2006 (UTC)
- When I'm not on my computer I use the Nahuatl-English English-Nahuatl Hippocrene Concise Dictionary by Fermin Herrera. When I'm online I use [1] for Spanish-Nahuatl which is more presise and [2] incase I don't know a word in spanish. Those usually help alot. Just not with grammar as much. I haven't really found a site that explains it well enough to speak it fluently. Myke 04:21, 4 May 2006 (UTC)
thanks, trouble is.. my spanish is fairly basic! Also, in Australia there aren't many places to find nahuatl stuff or other indigenous latin american books. just out of curiousity... are you part nahuatl?Domsta333 12:10, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah my Mom's dad is from Mexico City and hes mostly Aztec and Chichimec. But My grandma I believe was part Tarahumara. But yeah My grandpa, my mom, and I have facial features of an Aztec. Except with me, the nose is less pronounced and my cheecks aren't as high. But our noses are just like this Aztec Nose. But the only difference is I'm light skinned. I used to be darker but I stopped going out in the sun for like almost 7 years. Myke 00:01, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

vocal range
[edit]Hi Myke, I've seen you write a lot in the articles about voice. I posted a link of a talented italian singer in the vocal range talk page about 3 weeks ago, maybe it could be of interest for you. I have done a review of his album, and he is becoming well known here in europe, the link is Link: http://www.nicolasedda.com I think that before writing something about him it is better to contact his staff... I've done so for the review. bye Maria
That seems cool. Do you know what his vocal range is or some songs with the highest and/or lowest note that you know of? Myke 22:38, 13 June 2006 (UTC)
yes he has done a range exhibition in 2005 from E1 to A9! confirmed by illustrious teachers and studio analyzers of the frequency. there is a page with his vocal profile in the curiosity page of his site and you can download the exhibition too. his confirmed range is of 8 1/2 octaves ( I followed the exhibition from E1 to C8 with my piano, but with higher sounds I couldn't cause he goes over the piano ). in the songs I reviewed he sings an F7 in "in another life", E7 in "their shine inside", C7 in "painted on a wall" and he sings without falsetto belting chest and head voice in that notes with a great power and a "full voice" sound in other songs. I tried to contact him but he didn't replied, I have only received a reply from his staff. I'm sorry but what I heard and read in his website and album ( and in the promotional e-mail from his staff ) is everything I know about him. Maria
- Wow thats impressive... I dont think singing above the 8th octave is realy necessary since only about the 7th octave sounds like singing but thats impressive. i can only sing from A1-F7 but I have sung as low as G1 and as high as G#7 before. Myke 22:46, 14 June 2006 (UTC)
yes, that's impressive if you think that in few seconds he vocalizes on more than 8 octaves with that facility..
you are right when you say that you don't think singing above the 8th octave is realy necessary, maybe that's why in his songs he stops to F7, I don't know. also the name of the exhibition is "vocalrangegame", maybe this means that for him that exhibition is only a game, nothing more than this. I mean, in the songs I reviewed he uses a big part of his range but, first of all, he sings great songs too, I mean, I see him more like an artist like "mariah carey" than like an "adam lopez or georgia brown". I like his music, he is very interpretative, there are songs where he sings only in the 3rd and 4th octave. but we should ask him about his voice, the problem is that he doesn't reply me. what do you think about? and about georgia brown, where does she sing sounds in the 9th and 10th octave? Maria
- Yeah I think singing should be limited to only about A1-C2 at the lowest and probably C8 at the highest. Cause Mariah sang G#7 live so easily. She probably could go higher its just that higher than that just sounds like sqeaks ya know? Musically some notes are too high or too low to be considered actual singing. It may be singing but it doesnt sound like it. Myke 23:37, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, you are right.
So, are you going to try to contact him? I'm still waiting his reply, maybe you are more luky than me. I've seen there is another singer in those categories, Tarie...? I've heard Sebastian Vilas too...but in my opinion he has nothing to do with him. He's a real singer and he "outsings" Adam Lopez and Georgia Brown with ease, he has the widest vocal range too. Don't you think he should be added to the categories? He is the most talented singer I've ever heard, much more talented than Vilas and other singers added, what do you think about it? maybe you can discuss about him in the whistle reg. singers talk page with the other users, maybe someone will contact him and have a reply. I'll try again to send an e-mail to him..and I hope to have a reply this time...
Myke, he has repied me...
he is a very kind person. have you discuss about him to add him? Maria
- Nope ive been busy and forgot to. but ill get to it when i can. Ive been recording and doin other things. Myke 22:22, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit]It is important to keep a cool head, especially when responding to comments against you or your edits. Personal attacks and disruptive comments only escalate a situation; please keep calm and remember that action can be taken against other parties if necessary. Attacking another user back can only satisfy trolls or anger contributors and leads to general bad feeling. Please try to remain civil with your comments. Thanks! Rather than lashing out at those trying to ensure current policy is kept, you may wish to consider proposing a change to current policy or guidelines. The way I see it, the problem is down to the fact that there is no verifiable sources on certain musical matters because to the musically trained, such aspects are obvious. But current policy on WP:LIVING dictates that only verified information may be posted on articles on living people, for good reason. What is needed is some other means than the normal sources to verify certain musical points. This is the true issue at hand - don't let any one topic dominate a debate that is far more widely reaching LinaMishima 13:26, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
- i dont give a f*ck. i mean how can you not know that these singers sing in the whistle register. theres plenty of varified proof people just wanna be difficult cause they are assholes. i dont care if they wanna keep the policy or whatever. they know damn well those singers sing in the whistle register and just wanna make it harder for other people. like i said you have to be stupid to not know such things and i have a right to act how i want to. Myke 03:59, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

- One cannot know something one has not been educated in. I personally have made no claims to any knowledge about the whistle register, and this indeed is part of the argument - that as I do not know about it, I (and all others) need a trustworthy source to verify it. Please remember, everybody has different talents in life. You have a right to act as you want, but also a responsibility to accept the consequences. You will have much more effect in a dicussion by remaining civil. You may also wish to read my reply to Antares, and note that I am encouraging a means to reach a solution acceptable to all, for instance, a catagory for renowned whistle singers (as it has now became) and one for all whistle singers. - Whatever. I just think whoever took those singers off are lazy, if anything try to help the cat by trying to find reliable sources. And I personally believe Youtube is a good source. Its open to anyone and is both audio and visual proof. But can't I just upload a song and put it on a singers article as an audio sample. Cause some singers I can't find anything on youtube. Not even rachelle ferrell. And I have a list of 55 singers, the song, and the note they hit in the whistle register. Myke 10:34, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
- To a certain extent I would agree that it is better to hunt for references than simply to cull - I gave this a try, but could not find any. However another editor has located the correct academic resources and they are checking them for references. Youtube unfortunately suffers from a number of problems as a source. firstly, that anyone can upload a video, which makes the next point harder to deal with. Secondly, that we have only the uploader's word that the video is not a fake or hoax. Finally, in this case what we need proof of is not that she can hit notes that an expert would recognise as being in the whistle register, but that an expert does recognise them as being in the whistle register. A sound clip of the note being hit alone is not enough to prove this. You say you have a long list - where did you get this information? If you did not write it yourself, it may be suitable proof! LinaMishima 12:02, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
- I did write the list myself. I got the information from forums and friend and downloaded the songs myself to personally varify the notes. I also am adding people who hit either D6 or Eb6 effortlessly to hint that they can perhaps touch the whistle register like Ashanti who only hits Eb6, as well as Kandi Burrus, Patti Labelle and Emmy Rossum, and Krystal Harris who hits D6, and a couple others. But there are alot of singers who have sung in the whistle register a frequently like Betty Wright is known as the starter of the whistle register which she hits in Babysitter, No Pain, No Gain, and After The Pain. Amel Larrieux hits F#6 in For Real and in the first track of her new album she hits like E6 or something I didn't check it though. Shanice and Debelah Morgan also do it frequently and are compared to Mariah in their skill at it. Such as Shanice's overall voice and Debelah's enunciation in it. I'm pretty much all the information you'd need if you ever want to know such information on a singer. And I made the list cause I don't trust people. Like people always get notes wrong. Like Blu Cantrell's B6 is really Bb6. And Whitney Houston has actually hit G6 but some say its A6. She seemed to have done it by accident though. It was during a live performance of I Wanna Dance With Somebody. It's on youtube I think but for me it doesnt load all the way and appears to. Myke 13:24, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you for a well written response! :) I really wish that we could just use your list, you sound like you know what you're talking about! Out of curiousity, how did you come to know this matter so well? I once again advise you to go pester about some form of guideline or policy adjustment to allow us to happily use your list! (as I suspect that much of this information does not exist elsewhere as it's obvious to the experienced) LinaMishima 13:37, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
- Exactly. Alot of this information you cannot find online from a good source but you can still find on these singers' albums. Like if you want the list i can put it here:

And most of them were on the list. You can get these songs anywhere. I get them feom Limewire or Comcast Rhapsody if I can't find it. Youtube also has some songs too. That's how I know they aren't hoaxes because there are CD recordings. And the ones you don't have access to their CD's, have websites. It just takes some cummunication and research. Myke 14:43, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
- Once you're unblocked (assuming you still are), could you add these artist names to the referencing project list on the whistle register catagory talk page? Place the note and song name under the artist name via ** LinaMishima 15:04, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
- I read that and I'm not sure exactly how to do the referencing project thing but I will post the list. And alot of these singers sing in whistle very well my favorites are Toya Alexis, Shoshana Bean, Tamar Braxton, Tisha Campbell, Blu Cantrell, Mariah, Kelly Clarkson, Terry Ellis, Lisa Fischer, Nina Girado, Vivian Green, Jennifer Hudson, JoJo, Lani Misalucha, and Shanice. Myke 15:14, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry my last message was a little terse - I had to move from the front desk into the office. simply add using the following code as an example:
* [[Betty Wright]] **F7, G6 'No Pain, No Gain Live', Album
Then myself (possibly Marysunshine) and other interested people will work through the list attempting to either find sources, or ensure that there really are none that can be found on any online databases. LinaMishima 15:23, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
- o ok. so theres really no way to personally make a source? Myke 15:30, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
- Sadly not, unless you happen to be, for example, a writer for a major magazine, a professor at a university, a television presenter, etc. Even then, Wikipedia disallows original research, you would have to get it published in a respected authority first. This is because Wikipedia currently has no means to access a person's credentials, and this is a particularly heated issue of debate. LinaMishima 16:18, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
- o ok. so theres really no way to personally make a source? Myke 15:30, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
Submit your research as an article to a reputable outlet. You could even tell them you need it published so you can use it on wikipedia — the novelty of that might sway them into using it! Tyrenius 23:43, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
Hey Myke, that's a good list of singers. I just wanted to point out for Shanice, her highest note was in "Never Changing Love". It was a half step higher than the note in her "Breathe Again" live performance so it was a Bb6. Jjmcspooh 19:14, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

Adding names
[edit]I agree with your decision too. And talking about adding people, you have not listened to an Opera expert, that has written right things about whistle register, I’m a theacher too and I agree with who has written in the “Eric Martin” topic. Myke you say you know what whistle register is, but have added lots of names doing big mistakes ( like “whistle is two things” ). A person with a huge classical background ( in few words has defined whistle register ) has written how whistle works and I can say it’s right, so before adding again the same names or other names, please, be sure and ask info to experts. That’s just to keep wikipedia a good place with right info. You say “I know who sings in it. Now what I'm going to do, is I am going to post links to youtube on articles of those singers singing in the whistle register which should be good enough”. I discovered Nicola Sedda in the “Eric Martin” topic, and I see you have a long discussion about him in your talk page so, why didn’t you add him since you known he is more impressive than all the other singers added? Doing a research of his name and of the name of his site I’ve found lots of discussions and articles about him in the web, and a profile in a site of microphones too. So please try to be honest with everyone.
- Nicola doesn't have an article on wikipedia. I cannot add him if he doesn't have one. But yes, to my knowledge he has the largest vocal range and highest note of both male and female. But I don't like to add Opera singers cause some can get offended or it can be offensive to the Opera community since They believe there's a difference between whistle and superhead(which is a term i do not like to use). But if you notice, from my research alot of people consider E6+ whistle register and I have talked to experts in person about this. Well it was more of my mom boasting about my range to an expert who was critiqueing me and him responding that when he was in college he was singing Der Holle Rache with the soprano's hitting the high F. Alot of teachers do not know about this stuff. My choir teacher doesn't even know. It depends on the education you get. Whistle register isn't really taught extensively because of the fact that it's rare and there's really no need in being educated in it unless you yourself have it. And by whistle register is two things i mean that whistle register is the voice used by Mariah Carey, Minnie Riperton, Betty Wright, Adam Lopez, Georgia Brown, Sebastian Vilas, Nicola Sedda sing in and it can also be(which is different) the higher reaches of the head or falsetto voice above E6 which can be displayed frequently by Philip Bailey, Shoshana Bean, Rachelle Ferrell, Nina Girado, Lani Misalucha, Chante Moore, Debelah Morgan, Yma Sumac, Deniece Williams, Shanice and other not-so-well known artists. Some singers I am not sure of the technique they use which is the reason why we don't differenciate between the registers at that hight. And please sign at the end of a reply or message with 5 ~'s. Thank you. Myke 08:02, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
ok, I know there are lots of different opinions about whistle register, among experts too, so it is not so useful to continue discussing about who's right and who's wrong, but I agree with who has proposed to add only names that are really rapresentative of what whistle is, like minnie riperton, mariah carey, lopez, brown, sedda and so on, or that list will be too long, and hard to manage. 151.80.4.24 11:55, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
- That's why I only keep a list of about 50+ pop singers or singers that are better known in pop culture. It just takes some good documentation. Myke 15:00, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
yes, but the list was of more than 120 names... and someone was adding other names without discussing them...anyway, now everything seems ok, about nicola, he has no article here, but someone has created an article for Vilas just to add him there, see talk page. is that correct? 151.80.4.24 02:35, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah I made Georgia's and Vilas's pages but i dont really know much about Nicola. Well I created Vila's page and then it got deleted and someone brought it back pretty similar to how i made it. But about 100 of those singers i know sang in the whistle register. Myke 09:17, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
I see. Anyway, on the web there are more articles about Nicola than Vilas or Tireh, and most of their links on google are to wikipedia or sites that use wikipedia. about Nicola ( that has no article here)there are lots of sites that talk about him by themselves, or review his album. so, my opinion is that without whistle register, only few whould talk about Vilas and Tireh, while lots of sites that write about Nicola doesn't necessarely write the word "whistle" talking about him, cause it seems everyone knows how he sings, or at least on italian pages. see also the number of the visits to Vilas's site (1300+ in more than 1 year ) and Nicola's site ( 2490+ in few weeks ), I think this is another little proof of the difference between these singers. Georgia's and Vilas's article are very little ( someone should make a big article for georgia brown, she's very, very good ), I mean we know more about Nicola than Vilas if we make a research. And his article has been created only for 2 audio samples in the whistle reg. singers talk page if I remeber well, everything about him has come after the article. I don't think that's more than what we know about nicola. 151.80.4.24 19:40, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
- LOL yeah you've got a point but its too much work to make an article. but you dont have to lie about georgia. everyone know she caint sing. and her "G10" on her site is like a B8. she got mad at me cause i said she cant sing on youtube. Myke 08:41, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
so, no one will make an article about one of the greatest voices in the world cause it's too much work eheheh, it's funny ehehe but you're right, that's not your work. But I think someone should. Anyway, about georgia brown, even if she doesn't hit the G10, her range is very wide, I listened to her record in the piano keyboard in her site and you are right, I think it's around B8 or C9 or D9, but very impressive isn't it? that's way I said she is good and need a good article. if you noticed, G8 doesn't work ( to me )and G9 too, I think that's why understanding there's no G10 in her record, they inserted her highest ( around C9 ) to let people think that's the G10. I mean, her "G10" sounds like nicola's C9 ( even if nicola has recorded his exhibition in few seconds and it's clear what he sings and well audible, the most impressive I've ever heard ). So I'm little sceptical about her record, but maybe I'm wrong, do you have more info? G10 or not she is very good too, what about you said on youtube? 151.80.4.24 00:20, 13 August 2006 (UTC)
- I told her she cant sing and its the truth. Yeah I was scolded by some people on wikipedia for making articles and not wikifying them and all that but i have good pitch sence and i cant tell octaves above the 8th but the reason it sounds like nicola's C9 is because its B8. the note is a B and it doesnt sound like its a B9 cause then you would have to strain to hear it. but yeah her G8 and G9 dont work. but i hope someone makes nicola an article after all he does have the largest vocal range. Myke 11:02, 13 August 2006 (UTC)
Yeah someone should create the article. In georgia's site there's also a mistake in that page ( in the keyboard page )... there's "G2 G10 .... 9 octaves" or something like this, but that's 8 octaves...is she aware of that mistake? 151.80.4.24 00:31, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
- Nope and neither is guiness.Myke 17:19, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
== proof for ashanti to be on whistle register list == in the begining of this clip i know she hits whistle register http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPMHYKKCStU and u cant nock the note cause she does it with ease
- Its not available. If its the national anthem then the highest is Eb6 and for More Than A Melody, ive never heard a whistle note in it. But wikipedia does not consider youtube a good source although its a good place to find whistle register singers. Myke 06:31, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

Georgia Brown
[edit]I have moved your Georgia Brown to Georgia Brown (Brazilian singer), to place a dab page in Georgia Brown. Most of the links to that article were actually referring to the English actress and singer now at Georgia Brown (English singer). -- Beardo 00:09, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
All encompassing vocal abilities
[edit]I want to hear this " 34 second (C2)" you are capable of.--88.105.72.121 20:28, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
- I had the file along time ago and it wasnt really a C2 cause i didnt hold the same pitch but it was mostly C2. I had some D2 and Bb1 in there too sometimes cause i was getting restless while holind the note and i would move and change the pitch. but it was 32 seconds. I could probably get around 27 seconds if i tried to record again. Its not uncommon to hold low notes for a long period of time because you use less air unless youre at the very last note of your range then you might have to take more air to use more force. Myke 23:11, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
- Go for it. Even if it's 27 or near abouts I still want to hear it--88.105.28.197 14:05, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
- ok next time i go to my grandmas house ill do that cause i broke off my microphone in this computer and now a piece is stuck in my computer and i cant get it out. Myke 22:19, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
- Have you done it now?--88.105.124.238 23:27, 13 May 2007 (UTC)
- I'm sorry I keep forgetting. I just did some recording today too. I was working on Fly Like A Bird by MC. Myke 05:15, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
- Nevermind I recorded on my computer so it might have bad quality of a C2 that lasts about 38 seconds. So give me your email or screen name to either msn, yahoo or aol instant messengers if you have them and ill send you the clip. Myke 11:39, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
- Well, you could send it to me via slayerguy@gmail.com or put it up on here (which youre allowed to do)--88.105.93.217 15:59, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit]I'm making a project, so if you can answer this one question, that'd be great.

Hi. When you uploaded Image:Myke1.JPG, you did not specify complete source and copyright information. Another user subsequently tagged it with {{GFDL-presumed}} and, for some time, it has existed on Wikipedia under the assumption that you created the image and you agreed to license it under the GFDL. This assumption, however well-meaning, is not legally sufficient and the tag is being phased out. Images using it are being deleted.
This image has been tagged for deletion and will be deleted in one week if adequate copyright information is not provided.
If you, personally, are the author of this content, meaning that you took the photograph yourself or you created the chart yourself (and it does not use any clipart that you did not create), please retag the image with a free image copyright tag that correctly describes your licensing intentions, usually {{GFDL-self}} or {{PD-self}}. Please also make sure if you have not already done so that you write a good description of what the image depicts, when you took the photo, and other important details. This will allow Wikipedia to continue using the image.
If you did not create the image or if it is derived from the copyrighted works of others, please keep in mind that most images on the internet are copyrighted and are not suitable for use on Wikipedia. Wikipedia respects the copyrights of others and does not use images unless we know that they have been freely licensed. Any creative work is automatically copyrighted, even if it lacks a copyright notice. Unless the copyright holder has specifically disclaimed their rights to the image and released it under the GFDL or another compatible license, we cannot use it. If you did not create the image, and cannot make the image compliant with Wikipedia:Non-free content, simply do nothing and it will be deleted in a week. All other non-free images must follow these rules.
Please feel free to contact me on my talk page or leave a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions with any questions you may have. Thank you. Aksibot 09:00, 3 June 2007 (UTC)

You are finally becoming the editor you are capable of being and I am very impressed at your maintanance of the Whistle Register category. I'll bring the food (Talk - Contribs - My Watchlist) 18:14, 21 July 2007 (UTC) |
Well done. Make sure you focus on your studies more than Wikipedia though.--I'll bring the food (Talk - Contribs - My Watchlist) 18:14, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

Another editor has added the "{{prod}}
" template to the article Patrick Husson, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}}
template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. BJBot (talk) 23:59, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
Proposed deletion of Edson Cordeiro
[edit]A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Edson Cordeiro, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:
- Unsourced biography on an apparently non-notable musician. He has won an award, has appeared in a couple of TV shows, but...it doesn't seem a valid assertion of notability, as the award seems non-notable as well and the tv show's name is not given.
All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Unreferenced BLPs
[edit]Hello Myke209! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to insure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. if you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 143 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:
