Help has arrived

[edit]

You wanted some help, here I am! How can I help you? You can ask your questions right here, and I will respond. --JoanneB 15:54, 7 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, that was quick. One time I came on here on someone else's account and they had a thing that allowed them to see a small dropdown screen when floating on a link. How do I find that? Mutebutton 15:56, 7 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Those are called 'popups', and they can be found here: Wikipedia:Tools/Navigation popups. Let me know if you're having problems with setting them up. --JoanneB 16:01, 7 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Subpages can be made by creating a 'red link' for it first and then filling it. For instance, typing [[User:Mutebutton/Sandbox]] would create User:Mutebutton/Sandbox, which you could then use. Subpages are very rare for articles, but they can be very useful for User pages or Wikipedia pages. --JoanneB 16:43, 7 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome! I'm glad I could be of assistance! Thanks for your kind words and your offer to help. If you want to, you could give us some input on the {{helpme}} template, since it's all rather new and we like to know how users are experiencing it. I'm also leaving you a welcome message below. It is pretty standard, but it might contain some useful links for you! --JoanneB 18:23, 7 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia!

[edit]

Hello, Mutebutton, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the Wikipedia Boot Camp, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}} on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions.

You might like some of these links and tips:

If, for some reason, you are unable to fix a problem yourself, feel free to ask someone else to do it. Wikipedia has a vibrant community of contributors who have a wide range of skills and specialties, and many of them would be glad to help. As well as the wiki community pages there are IRC Channels, where you are more than welcome to ask for assistance.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask me on my talk page. Thanks and happy editing, -- JoanneB 18:23, 7 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Whoa! Hold on there! This category is not named according to convention, and is almost certainly obsolete to Category:Guitarists. I think you'd be wasting your time to populate this category. --kingboyk 15:33, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Lol, it's ok, you're a newcomer :) Would you like to me delete this new category for you? --kingboyk 15:38, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
lol, well, I started in April, but I didn't do anything for a long time after that, so I guess i'm still new. Sure, delete away. How do you delete something, btw? Mutebutton 15:43, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I've deleted it. I have a few extra buttons because I'm an administrator. --kingboyk 15:50, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
There's no reason at all why you can't become an admin, given time, but it will take a bit of time. Have a read of that link I gave you, get to know your way round the site (and see if you like it!), find a few jobs to do etc etc. You'll soon find it's quite addictive, and people will start to recognise your name. When you've had a bit of an impact and done some good work you can think about RFA. From newbie to admin is usually a minimum of 3 months good work. Feel free to ask for me any advice in the meantime (but not right now if you don't mind as I have a backlog of things to do :)). --kingboyk 15:57, 4 September 2006 (UTC) PS If you like The Beatles see WP:BEATLES[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Georgeharmanruth1.png)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Georgeharmanruth1.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 15:24, 20 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
