I am still wondering what the notification "ThisUser patrolled you" means. Could you explain? FindMeLost (talk) 04:46, 19 October 2015 (UTC)
- You can read all about it here. It just means I saw that your userpage did not contain inappropriate content, so I marked that revision of the page as patrolled. Happy editing! — MusikAnimal talk 04:59, 19 October 2015 (UTC)

National Ambient Air Quality Standards from Kspanks04
Not a vandal bro, I even left a comment explaining what I did. I updated the PM2.5 standards because they were out of date. Kspanks04 (talk) 17:25, 19 October 2015 (UTC)
The table should mirror the EPA's http://www3.epa.gov/ttn/naaqs/criteria.html — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kspanks04 (talk • contribs) 17:46, 19 October 2015 (UTC)
- @Kspanks04: Hey! Sorry for the confusion, this is my fault. I did mean to revert you, but saying you didn't use an edit summary was incorrect, as clearly you did. The issue was with this edit you blanked a large amount of sourced material, including the lead of the article and it's categories. I'm going to assume this was a mistake, and you just meant to update the Standards table? — MusikAnimal talk 17:53, 19 October 2015 (UTC)
- @MusikAnimal:Oh wow...I really did a number on this one. Ha, not sure how I managed to do that, my apologies. This article was pretty out of date, I think I got it back to how it was with updated information. I will work on getting an updated attainment map too.

Canned edit summary tag when editing a section
Hi MusikAnimal, Since you are the only one who has edited Special:AbuseFilter/633, I assumed this would be the right place to ask this: The "canned edit summary" tag doesn't show up when the edit is for a section only, i.e. when the summary starts with an arrow and the name of the section in italics. (Example) Any chance you can fix this? Thanks! Rchard2scout (talk) 20:54, 19 October 2015 (UTC)

Portal talk:South Korea
I can't see how G8 applied to Portal talk:South Korea. Could you please check your deletion? -- John of Reading (talk) 18:43, 20 October 2015 (UTC)
- @John of Reading: Hmm, I am really confused! I thought for sure I deleted a talk page of one of the deleted subpages, and I also thought same when I just restored it. Clearly I was wrong. So now both the deletion and restoration summaries are wrong (the latter should have said "not G8, my mistake", not "restoring per request"). Sorry about that! — MusikAnimal talk 18:47, 20 October 2015 (UTC)
Hello from 107.179.233.156
Hi the reason I deleted your passage was because it was plagiarized.
(Redacted)
Is taken, verbatim, from the following source: Nyhus, E., & Barcelo, F. (2009) "The Wisconsin Card Sorting Test and the cognitive assessment of prefrontal executive functions: A critical update" Brain and Cognition 71, 437-451
The following passage is from the abstract of the above paper
(Redacted)
First, you have clearly plagiarized the work which is not acceptable. If you wish to present information you should do so in your own words. Second, you purport to make a claim that does not offer any evidence to the contrary. If you wish to post an article about a neurological assessment it is not reasonable to post only one side of the story. The WCST is a validated, empirical assessment that is able to measure executive function with respect to a variety of impairments. However, your article is biased and it is questionable, based on the fact that you have plagiarized half of it, whether the information presented is accurate. I am not saying that Nyhus 2009 does not offer a valid criticism, however you do not report how the test was developed, what populations it has been validated on, or what the reliability of the scale is. It is my opinion that in order to make Wikipedia a CREDIBLE source for information that 1) no work should be plagiarized, and 2) articles should present information in a balanced fashion. Your article does not seem to accomplish this. Deleting that passage seemed to resolve the two above conflicts.

- Hello, sorry for the confusion! I did not write this content. I patrol recent changes, and removal of sourced content is a common form of vandalism. It is expected, or otherwise highly encouraged, that you state why you remove a large amount of remove content in your edit summary – but it's obviously understandable that you didn't know that. Anyway, I looked into it, and you are correct that this looks like a copyright violation. Thank you for identifying this. I have removed the content and taken further steps to mitigate the issue. I really appreciate you taking the time to explain all of this to me, and I'm sorry you got bundled in with the other vandals when you were in fact trying to do the right thing. As an administrator and recent changes patroller, I'm constantly trying to improve the situation to both prevent vandalism while not interfering with constructive edits. This scenario is very helpful to me. While it not by any means required, you should consider creating an account and becoming a regular editor, as your mindset and mentality is perfectly in line with our goals. Recent changes patrolling
Hey, MusikAnimal,
I have a question about recent changes patrolling I'm seeing. I was checking on the edits of an editor I interacted with before and I found it wasn't unusual for an editor to get multiple warnings for the same edit. Look at User talk:80.5.150.10 for October 2015 and you'll see within minutes, the editor had three warning messages about the same edit.
Is this an unavoidable part of using editing tools like Twinkle? It just seems like overkill and if it is an out-of-character edit, the mass of warnings would discourage any editor from continuing. I understand placing warnings on talk pages is part of the process of fighting vandalism but it would be nice if editors looked at the talk page first to see if there already was a warning or if Wikipedia had some feature like patrolling pages which crossed off an edit if it had been addressed by another editor. What do you think? Liz Read! Talk! 22:08, 22 October 2015 (UTC)
- @Liz: Are you sure those warnings were for the same edit? Looking at the contributions I see timing matches that of the warnings. I believe ClueBot and Huggle both have logic not to issue a warning if the last warning was issued 30 seconds earlier, that helps ensure the user has time to at least see the warning. From my experience, I'm lead to believe mobile web (not mobile app) users don't see warnings, or they are not prominent enough. Anyway you are correct however that some patrollers do issue multiple warnings unnecessarily. Working at AIV I even see that they will issue a warning then immediately report them to AIV... which is frustrating to watch — MusikAnimal talk 22:53, 22 October 2015 (UTC)
- When I have the time (right), I'll look into this and the timing of warnings. I should know that the Bots are smarter than the average bear. It is discouraging to see a user talk page where, within 10 minutes, the editor receives warnings level 1-4 and then gets blocked, all before they make the next edit. I appreciate the thankless work that NPP, vandalism-fighters and CSD tagging editors do but it seems like when new editors dive into it, there is a certain zealousness. I'm glad that the threshold at AIV is higher than expected to make sure that the editor is truly deserving of a block. Liz Read! Talk! 23:50, 22 October 2015 (UTC)
- I agree with you about multiple warnings for the same edit, but I don't think that's what happened here. With any given page refresh the notification will be there, which had to have been the case as they made multiple edits. Again on mobile it's just a bell icon with a number next to it, as opposed to desktop where it's a big yellow bar that crosses the whole page. Maybe mobile users think the little number is an add or something, who knows.. Something I've been wanting to investigate. Either way we have to react to repeated abuse. I also am not sure this user was actually blocked? — MusikAnimal talk 02:28, 23 October 2015 (UTC)

Hello from 167.88.17.232
Why did you delete my pictures? I am related to St. Felinski and do not appreciate that you have erased them. 167.88.17.232 (talk) 20:14, 22 October 2015 (UTC)
- Hi, I assume you are User:Nosharia4me. Please remember to login when editing. Now, I did not erase your photos, and as far as I can tell you never actually uploaded any. With this edit I stated in the edit summary to use the File upload wizard to insert your photos. Sorry I did not also post a message on your talk page. Hope this helps — MusikAnimal talk 20:26, 22 October 2015 (UTC)
I uploaded 2 pictures and both were taken down, also I can't log in. says no user by that name. The pictures were from the canonization Mass held on Oct 11th 2009 and I was representing my family with my sister from Canada. - I have no idea. Your IP and your account do not indicate the addition of media to any article. Can you point me to some specific articles? — MusikAnimal talk 20:55, 22 October 2015 (UTC)
https://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Zygmunt_Szcz%C4%99sny_Feli%C5%84ski&oldid=685883624 you will see the text about the pictures, but no pictures. and also in the Polish version of the same page: https://pl.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Zygmunt_Szcz%C4%99sny_Feli%C5%84ski&action=history If you can look up the saved pictures of St. Felinski, there are about 20 odd pictures from books and paintings and the Order of nuns that he started. Near the end there are two (or were) pictures of St.Peter's Basilica one during the day and one at night. They both have the large portrait of St. Zygmunt Szczestny Felinski in the middle. alt=Muj Pra-Pra-Pra-Woj|thumb|230x230px|My Great-Great-Grand-Uncle167.88.17.232 Ironically, on the Polish version, in the history my pictures show up but they were stripped off by another user.(talk) 21:18, 22 October 2015 (UTC)
- I can't speak for the Polish version, but here in the diff you provided [10], you did not add a photo. You added the text
Picture of canonization Oct 11 2009, Centre portrait (my Great-Great-Grand Uncle). having troubles uploading, youtube has my bells too.
. This text alone will not insert any media. You need to use the appropriate syntax. The full instructions are at WP:IMAGESYNTAX. I see you did upload a photo on our Commons, viewable at File:Felinski3_October11_2015.JPG. Is that photo appropriate for the Zygmunt Szczęsny Feliński article? Could you explain why? I will help you add it to the article — MusikAnimal talk 21:39, 22 October 2015 (UTC)
Unfortunately my Polish is not fluent, but thank you for finding my pictures again, yes that is one of the pics, they are important as this was the day and night of the canonization. When officially my Great-Great-Grand-Uncle was titled a saint. I flew to the Vatican and to Poland to greet people and bring back pictures stories of others and books for my parents and friends. I also have short video clips on youtube under the same name. St. Felinski was bishop in Warsaw when there was no Poland, the church was all but outlawed and he defied the cruel oppressors and got exiled to Siberia for 20 years for it. He never gave in and never gave up. He built a church, convent and orphanage. He wrote many books on doctrine and helped the locals. One of the miracles attributed to him was after the local farmers were pleading for help in a super dry year, St. Felinski prayed and a spring welled up, allowing the farmers to irrigate their fields. This spring still bears his name. I have a picture of a number of book covers and a second with the backs so that if people want to do research on him they know where to order them from. ( I have not uploaded them yet.)In times of trouble, we often forget how easy we have it today, and as they say history repeats. the last two pics on the bottom are mine.: https://pl.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Zygmunt_Szcz%C4%99sny_Feli%C5%84ski&diff=43837167&oldid=43748274 167.88.17.232 (talk) 02:56, 23 October 2015 (UTC)

Hello from Sharlene108
Hi, I am new to WIKI creation and seen this message recently after I submited one new article. Am I doing it right? I created a WIKI page for a Novel and want this to be available under WIKIPEDIA. However, if the page is moved to my user account how would it work? "I've moved the draft that you were working on to Draft:A List of Offences, from its old location at User:Sharlene108. "
Any suggestion/advice would be appreciated. SharleneSharlene108 (talk) 08:11, 26 October 2015 (UTC)

- @Hugh Janus489: I see that you have made a few edits there now, prior to that you must have been editing while logged out. Anyway this edit is not really appropriate as it is not relevant or pertinent to understanding the subject. This verges on vandalism, as why would you compare 420 (cannabis culture) with the number 69 (that has a sexual connotation)? This would seemingly only appeal to adolescents. Also saying "see you in another life" to me sounds condescending and I'd appreciate if you improved your tone when communicating with others. Thanks — MusikAnimal talk 17:24, 27 October 2015 (UTC)

The bot archived this request to the wrong archive page. Could you check why? Armbrust The Homunculus 20:36, 29 October 2015 (UTC)
- @Armbrust: Very nice catch! This happened because of the timestamp you entered, the regex grouped that rather than the last one. I can make it more strict to match exactly something like
hh:mm, day month year (UTC)
and that would fix it in this case, but if you had put(UTC)
after the timestamp you entered it would see that. So, I could instead match the timestamp end the end of the line, so likehh:mm, day month year (UTC)[END OF LINE]
. That would correctly identify the resolution timestamp in probably 99% of the cases, but I know of at least one user who has a custom sig/timestamp system that puts a period after their timestamp, so it wouldn't work for them. I guess I should match the last instance ofhh:mm, day month year (UTC)
, not checking for the end of line? Hopefully I am making sense. — MusikAnimal talk 21:03, 29 October 2015 (UTC)- Fixed For now, I think: [17][18]. If someone were to put another timestamp that's not part of the signature on the same line as the resolution template (done/not done/etc.) then it's going to archive to the wrong place. Not much we can do about that, and I'm going to assume other archiving bots work the same way. Thank you very much for the noticing and reporting the bug! — MusikAnimal talk 21:48, 29 October 2015 (UTC)

Links: It is now easier to understand when you are adding text to a link and when you are typing plain text next to it. (T74108, T91285) The editor now fully supports ISBN, PMID or RFC numbers. (T109498, T110347, T63558) These "magic links" use a custom link editing tool.
Uploads: Registered editors can now upload images and other media to Commons while editing. Click the new tab in the "Insert Images and media" tool. You will be guided through the process without having to leave your edit. At the end, the image will be inserted. This tool is limited to one file at a time, owned by the user, and licensed under Commons's standard license. For more complex situations, the tool links to more advanced upload tools. You can also drag the image into the editor. This will be available in the wikitext editor later.
Mobile: Previously, the visual editor was available on the mobile Wikipedia site only on tablets. Now, editors can use the visual editor on any size of device. (T85630) Edit conflicts were previously broken on the mobile website. Edit conflicts can now be resolved in both wikitext and visual editors. (T111894) Sometimes templates and similar items could not be deleted on the mobile website. Selecting them caused the on-screen keyboard to hide with some browsers. Now there is a new "Delete" button, so that these things can be removed if the keyboard hides. (T62110) You can also edit table cells in mobile now.
Rich editing tools: You can now add and edit sheet music in the visual editor. (T112925) There are separate tabs for advanced options, such as MIDI and Ogg audio files. (T114227 and T113354) When editing formulæ and other blocks, errors are shown as you edit. It is also possible to edit some types of graphs; adding new ones, and support for new types, will be coming.
On the English Wikipedia, the visual editor is now automatically available to anyone who creates an account. The preference switch was moved to the normal location, under Special:Preferences.
Future changes
You will soon be able to switch from the wikitext to the visual editor after you start editing. (T49779) Previously, you could only switch from the visual editor to the wikitext editor. Bi-directional switching will make possible a single edit tab. (T102398) This project will combine the "Edit" and "Edit source" tabs into a single "Edit" tab, similar to the system already used on the mobile website. The "Edit" tab will open whichever editing environment you used last time.

PERM-related queries
I think it would be a good idea, if the bot wouldn't change {{noadminbacklog}} to {{adminbacklog}} on the WP:PERM subpages due to just a single open request. This change was previously only made if there were at least four of them. What do you think?
BTW shouldn't the prerequisite checks only be done for un-handled requests? (See this. User is a sockpuppet and probably most of the created articles were deleted per G5.) Armbrust The Homunculus 06:14, 1 November 2015 (UTC)
- @Armbrust: I wasn't aware we were using {{adminbacklog}} before? It was used at Wikipedia talk:AutoWikiBrowser but done manually when a single request was open, or so I thought. I'm not against putting a minimum on it as you suggest, but I'd prefer if we were somehow able to state that in the template. Such functionality appears to be restricted to categories (as it can use a magic word to count the entries). We'd want it to say "This notice will hide when there are fewer than 4 requests". Let's bring it up WT:PERM and see what others have to say.It looks like KrakatoaKatie was substituting {{done}} which the bot wasn't programmed to recognize, but I've updated the regex so this usage should be OK moving forward. — MusikAnimal talk 18:03, 1 November 2015 (UTC)

Thank you
Hi MusikAnimal,
Thanks for your comments and advice in my RFA. I appreciated your indispensable contributions. It has never occurred to me that I was doing the wrong thing at WP:PERM. I only felt I could help in that area but never knew I was doing it wrongly. I have so much passion for Wikipedia and this drives me to look for thousands of ways to improve the encyclopedia. Your comment that "I'll just be outright that my impression of Wikicology has never been good. " is worrisome and demoralizing. I know you're probably not happy with my activities in that small corner of admin backlog (WP:PERM) but I only try to help in my capacity as a volunteer. Sorry to have disappointed you in the past. With kind regards, Wikic¤l¤gyt@lk to M£ 07:04, 31 October 2015 (UTC)
- @Wikicology: As I said, don't be discouraged. We don't really want non-admins declining requests at PERM (barring the most obvious of cases), but the bigger issue with you I think was how you were "authoritative" in your wording, or otherwise giving the impression you are above your fellow editors. I'm convinced this wasn't intentional, but that's why it was a problem, and I still see that demeanor in your talk page archives. That's OK, you can work on it. I'm with Cullen328 and SilkTork on the thoughts they shared, and I think they provided excellent advice that you can look to follow. Again, don't be discouraged. Your place here on Wikipedia is no less significant than the next guy's. All the best — MusikAnimal talk 18:40, 1 November 2015 (UTC)

2015 GA Cup Wrap-Up
The second-ever GA Cup is now over! The competition officially ended Thursday. Congrats to everyone who participated, and especially to our finalists. The winner of the 2nd GA Cup is Zwerg Nase! He earned 408 points, over 100 points more than he earned in all previous rounds. He tied with our second-place winner, Sturmvogel 66 with 367 points, in number of articles reviewed (24), and they earned almost the same points for reviewing articles that were in the queue the longest (Zwerg with 322, Sturmvogel with 326). Basically, they tied in points, but what made the different for Zwerg was the advantage he had in reviewing longer articles. It seems that the rule change of earning more realistic points for longer articles made a difference. All of our contestants should be proud of the work they were able to accomplish through the GA Cup. Congrats to these worthy opponents! Our third and fourth place winners, Johanna and Tomandjerry211, also ran a close race, with 167 points and 147 points respectfully. We had one withdrawal; we found it interesting that competitors dropped out in Round 2 and 3 as well. One of the original judges and co-creator of this competition, User:Dom497 stepped down as judge during Round 3; as stated previously, we will miss his input and wish him the best. The judges were pleased with our results, even though fewer users competed this time compared to our inaugural competition. We recognize that this might be due to holding the competition during the summer months. We intend on looking more closely when we should conduct this contest, as well as other aspects of the GA Cup. We've set up a feedback page for everyone's input about how we should conduct the contest and what rule changes should be made. If you have any ideas about how we can improve things, please visit it and give us your input. Again, thanks to all and congratulations to our winners! Please stay tuned for the start of GA Cup #3. Cheers from 3family6, Figureskatingfan, Jaguar and MrWooHoo. —Preceding undated comment added 21:22, 1 November 2015 (UTC) |
A barnstar for you!
The Minor Barnstar | ||
Although you did not make the top 16 of Round 1, you did participate and you still deserve a barnstar. Thank you so much for being a part of the 2nd Annual GA Cup and we hope to see you next year! MrWooHoo (talk) 23:29, 1 November 2015 (UTC) |
- I actually didn't do a single review, but only because I was coincidentally swamped with other work during Round 1. So not sure if I really deserve the barnstar... but thank you anyway! :) I'm a big fan of all the backlog drives, especially the GA Cup. Looking forward to the next one and hoping I'll have more time to devote to it. Cheers — MusikAnimal talk 23:42, 1 November 2015 (UTC)
Twinkle
Hi MA, any chance you could synchronise the Twinkle gadget? There are a few changes, particularly the deprecation of NFCR, that probably should be updated on-wiki. Thanks in advance! — This, that and the other (talk) 13:34, 1 November 2015 (UTC)
- @This, that and the other: No problemo. Just want to be 100% sure... we're deleting MediaWiki:Gadget-twinkledelimages.js entirely? But first remove it from the gadget definition? — MusikAnimal talk 18:23, 1 November 2015 (UTC)
- Also, have you considered requesting the interface-editor user right? You're a highly trusted user who is active in MediaWiki development, and with Twinkle have a demonstrated need to edit MediaWiki pages. Not sure what the exact qualifications are but my guess is you meet them — MusikAnimal talk 18:30, 1 November 2015 (UTC)
- Yes, that's correct. As for user rights, basically I've been holding out for "Gadgets 2.0", which will move gadgets out of the MediaWiki namespace and bring them under the control of two new, separate user rights. I've been waiting since 2011; there was some tantalising progress a few months ago, but the project seems to have stalled once more... In any case, I don't think I'd be granted interface-editor, because it is a global right, and I only need it on this wiki. — This, that and the other (talk) 23:12, 1 November 2015 (UTC)
- Just to be clear: first sync Twinkle; then update gadget-definition; then delete delimages. Thanks! — This, that and the other (talk) 23:12, 1 November 2015 (UTC)
- @This, that and the other: I actually never was able to get the sync tool to work, so I've manually updated all the files that were changed since ae6802e "speedy: when deleting redirects use prop=redirects instead of backlinks API". Hopefully that's everything? I guess I'm going to write my own sync tool, as the one Amalthea uses I think is specific to their machine. I can write mine in Ruby 1.8.6 which means it will work without any prior setup for anyone who has a Mac, which probably is only me =P — MusikAnimal talk 00:06, 2 November 2015 (UTC)

Autopatrolled
I noticed that you turned me down for autopatrolled rights. Can I try again after I have the 25 articles needed? I just wanted the rights because I am sick of somebody trying to delete an article yelling "it's not notable" when they have no idea about the subject or even the category it falls into. (Most people not familiar with horses, which most of my articles are about, don't seem to get that just because a horse didn't win the Triple Crown doesn't mean it's not notable enough for an article. In fact, out of the 300+ horse breeds out there, only one is eligible to run in the Triple Crown.) Anyway, I would like to try again after I have 25 articles. White Arabian mare (Neigh) 22:58, 1 November 2015 (UTC)
- @White Arabian mare: The fact that people are bringing up concerns with your articles is the precise reason the new page patrolling process exists. Granting the autopatrolled right to circumvent this is not appropriate. If you provide reliable sources with your articles to support notability I think you wouldn't have the patrollers nagging you (though hopefully they are at least nice about it). If you are creating the article then adding sources afterward, that's just a timing issue, as many patrollers work from the top of the backlog (and sometimes unfairly don't give you enough time). In that case I would recommend creating a draft article first, then when you are finished and have it well-sourced, move it to the mainspace. Don't rush back to WP:PERM/A when you've hit 25 articles. Give it some time, maybe a month or so. Hope this helps! — MusikAnimal talk 23:39, 1 November 2015 (UTC)
- With most of the recent articles I've tried to add sources at the same time as the rest of the article was being created. It just seems like a lot of new page patrollers like to slap tags on articles 5 minutes after they are created (I just saw that done to somebody else's article last night) without giving people time to fix any issues like broken links or typos they made accidentally. I know I didn't do as good on the first few articles, but then I was having trouble with markup. It just seems like people like biting new users, even though they're warned against it... But thanks for your advice, I will work on making new and better articles and then try again sometime in the future. White Arabian mare (Neigh) 01:10, 2 November 2015 (UTC)
- @White Arabian mare: You are 100% absolutely correct that there are WP:BITEy patrollers, and many of them aren't qualified to be patrolling in the first place. Unfortunately it's not easy to monitor this activity. If they worked from the bottom of the backlog it would be better for the good-faith creators, but then vandalism and attack pages wouldn't be caught as quickly. As I said I recommend working in the draftspace then moving the page to the mainspace to avoid this issue, but you can also place a {{new page}} tag at the top to let the patrollers know you're still working on it. Best — MusikAnimal talk 01:54, 2 November 2015 (UTC)
- Also note {{new page}} should not be used on biographies of living persons (as those are more serious subjects that need immediate review, e.g. attack pages). Living horses don't count as living persons :) — MusikAnimal talk 01:57, 2 November 2015 (UTC)

MusikBot appears to have missed the rotation of dates at Template talk:Did you know
FYI,
Today's normal rotation of dates by MusikBot has not yet occurred at Template talk:Did you know. The bot has made an edit after the time when the rotation usually occurs, so this does not appear to be an issue of a missing/dead bot. Please check to see if there are any problems at your earliest convenience. --Allen3 talk 03:27, 7 November 2015 (UTC)
- @Allen3: It got an API maxlag error when trying to fetch the contents of User:MusikBot/RotateTDYK/Offset... I mean come on! That's a tiny one-byte sized page! Ugh, the API can be so aggravating to work with sometimes =P Anyway I've added more aggressive maxlag error handling, so this shouldn't happen again. Semi
Hey. Could Perth Wildcats, Sydney Kings and Sydney Uni Flames please be semi protected. They are being vandalised by different IPs. I warned this IP but the person has now come back as a similar yet different IP. Cheers. DaHuzyBru (talk) 16:31, 10 November 2015 (UTC)
- Coincidentally, I see that DaHuzyBru had left this earlier request here; a similiar notice on my talk page led me independently to you and my IPv6 questions below. From what I can tell with contributions on that range since November, there seems to be a lot of edits seemingly exclusively with vandalism to Australia- and New Zealand-releate articles coming from these Comcast IPs in the US. Maybe you'll be faster than I in figuring out a minimal IP range to block (I barely have this down for IPv4). Thanks.—Bagumba (talk) 19:09, 10 November 2015 (UTC)
- @Bagumba: Not sure about the IPv4's but those v6 addresses I think are too wide of a range. FYI you can use NativeForeigner's range calculator to figure out how many users you are dealing with. Then of course check the contribs in that range and see if a block is feasible. At first glance all three aforementioned pages I was a bit unsure about semi'ing due to lack of recent disruptive activity — MusikAnimal talk 19:14, 10 November 2015 (UTC)
- If I searched on the contributions (link above) for "2015-11", they seemed to all be the same NZ/AUS pages and vandalism based on random sample. I realize it's a large range, but would the lack of other activity allow for a very short block? This would not be for registered users.—Bagumba (talk) 19:28, 10 November 2015 (UTC)
- @Bagumba: If that is the case I think a very brief block would okay... do you have the computed range? I can ask on IRC real quick. Or maybe NeilN will have some insight. I personally am not an expert at range blocks — MusikAnimal talk 19:31, 10 November 2015 (UTC)
- I was fishing for you to have more insight :-) I'll hit the books some more, or NeilN or other stalkers can chime in. I don't mind adding IPv6 to my repertoire, but didn't want to do anything rash and sloppy.—Bagumba (talk) 19:36, 10 November 2015 (UTC)
- @Bagumba: I asked on IRC and was told /64 should be OK. I'd move ahead with it — MusikAnimal talk 19:40, 10 November 2015 (UTC)

AIV helperbot
Any idea why sometimes this bot goes on strike and doesn't remove reports promptly? --NeilN talk to me 23:42, 10 November 2015 (UTC)
- I've always wondered the same. HighInBC any insight? I think it doesn't detect rangeblocks or global locks. The weird thing is sometimes I'll go to remove a blocked report and I'm able to save, but when I check the page history I see that bot had removed it. There just wasn't an edit conflict because we did the same thing. It's as if it knows when I'm trying to clear it out. Does that ever happen to you? — MusikAnimal talk 23:45, 10 November 2015 (UTC)
- Or I'll go to remove the reports and see that they were just removed. These are just coincidences, I know, but the timing always amazes me — MusikAnimal talk 23:46, 10 November 2015 (UTC)
- I know it won't detect rangeblocks. But you've just been clearing out regular blocked editors so you know it happens there as well. --NeilN talk to me 23:51, 10 November 2015 (UTC)

Debate on Bernard Shaw's nationality.
Was he "Irish" or "British" or do we need to define his nationality in some other way? A debate on the subject, to reconsider a long-standing consensus that he was Irish, has started at talk:George Bernard Shaw. Just in case you're interested. Current comments are at "Nationality", at the foot of the page - although an earlier thread at "Irish"? may also be relevant. --Soundofmusicals (talk) 05:54, 12 November 2015 (UTC)

confirmationRollback.js
Hi, MusikAnimal. Personally, I don't need the extra information in your message (how many edits are to be reverted and the user name of the editor) since that info is on the line I just clicked/pressed and if I don't know what I pressed then it was an accident, but yes, including that info doesn't hurt either (Except I'd rather use my one-liner directly in my common.js instead of downloading an additional script file for that). Here are a few things I would change in your script's code to make the code nicer in my opinion:
- Since you are not declaring any variables that would become global without it, there is no need for the outer anonymous function
(function() { ... }());
- To avoid match()ing the string twice, I would get the count this way: var count =
( e.target.innerText.match(/\d+/) || [null] )[0];
- I don't think you need the 'return' in
if(!confirm(message)) return e.preventDefault()

Changes this week
- You can use TemplateData to indicate how you want a template to be displayed in wikitext. Tools like VisualEditor that edit templates will soon use this information. [33]
- Echo notification icons in MonoBook will look more like other icons in the theme. [34]
- The Community Tech team is doing a community wishlist survey to understand what they should be working on. They are now accepting proposals in all languages. You can create your proposal in the small box above the blue button and click it when you're done.
- Wikis can make the welcome notification link to a specific page. [35]
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from November 17. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis from November 18. It will be on all Wikipedias from November 19 (calendar).
Meetings
- You can join the next meeting with the VisualEditor team. During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs you think are the most important. The meeting will be on 17 November at 19:00 (UTC). See how to join.
Future changes
- Internet Explorer 8 will no longer have JavaScript support. You will still be able to browse and edit Wikipedia, but will not be able to use some features. This can be solved by upgrading to a newer version or switching to a different browser. The change will happen in January 2016. [36][37]

Test.wiki
Hello. I need your help in test.wiki. You could not see for permissions? --Максим Підліснюк (talk) 15:00, 17 November 2015 (UTC)
- @Максим Підліснюк: Alrighty, all set. I don't really grant rights at testwiki, I just have 'crat for my own testing purposes. However this seems pretty straightforward and you're a trusted user. Cheers — MusikAnimal talk 16:13, 17 November 2015 (UTC)
IP User you warned
Can you reconsider just a warning. All of their edits to Anna Gunn are pretty serious BLP violations. — Strongjam (talk) 16:23, 17 November 2015 (UTC)
- Nevermind, I see you've blocked them now. Thanks! — Strongjam (talk) 16:24, 17 November 2015 (UTC)
Anonymous user with changing IP address
Thanks for blocking 122.163.226.178 (talk · contribs). Unfortunately this editor's response has been to change his/her IP address and to continue disruptive editing as before, namely continuing to remove content from Literary festival without explanation, despite being asked to comment on the talk page. Would you consider protecting Literary festival against IP edits as perhaps a more effective way of encouraging this editor to discuss? --Deskford (talk) 23:13, 17 November 2015 (UTC)
- Done Seems reasonable. I can't believe this has been going on for so long, feel free to request semi at WP:RFPP for situations like this — MusikAnimal talk 23:42, 17 November 2015 (UTC)
