Shooting of Michael Brown

Thanks for configuring the pending changes settings [1]. For some reason, it doesn't seem to be working anymore and the article is getting disruptive edits again. --Bob K31416 (talk) 19:50, 30 July 2015 (UTC)

The disruptive content is not visible to the vast majority of readers, so I think pending changes is still ok for right now, at least given the low edit rate from unconfirmed users. Feel free to request semi at WP:RFPP for another admin to review, however! MusikAnimal talk 19:53, 30 July 2015 (UTC)
I just lost familiarity with how pending changes works. After reviewing the explanations of it, It looks like it's working as it's supposed to. Thanks. --Bob K31416 (talk) 20:21, 30 July 2015 (UTC)

24.185.193.129 disruptive editing

Hi Musik. What is the action to be taken on repeat offenders? 24.185.193.129 has resumed disruptive editing after being temp blocked for vandalism. I am withholding report by giving safe due process by giving incremental warnings. Please do advise. Thanks, Optakeover(Talk) 15:13, 31 July 2015 (UTC)

I have reported him to AIV as he has ignored all warnings. I would still want you to advise on this. Optakeover(Talk) 15:22, 31 July 2015 (UTC)
Blocked 72 hours. It almost seems like good-faith editing but the changes they are making are blatantly false, no choice but to block! Hopefully this will get their attention. Thanks for the report MusikAnimal talk 15:26, 31 July 2015 (UTC)
Huggle seems to have another issue: it treats expired block users as still on a warning 4 level so it immediately prompted me for AIV report. After temp block, can a user be immediately reblocked if he resumes disruptive editing? Optakeover(Talk) 15:28, 31 July 2015 (UTC)
I believe it detects if they are just coming off of a block, and will report to AIV at the first revert+warn. This is procedural and expected behaviour. "Vandalism after recent release of block" is valid rationale for reblocking, especially if they are exerting the same behaviour as before MusikAnimal talk 15:33, 31 July 2015 (UTC)
Sorry to trouble you again, don't wish to trouble WP:SPI over a bunch of ducks. O.T. Genasis being vandalised by multiple SPA and anon of similar edits. Please do swing your block hammer. Optakeover(Talk) 15:38, 31 July 2015 (UTC)
No problem. I blocked the one obvious sock account, but the IP is dynamic. Given the history semi-protection seemed favourable so went with that MusikAnimal talk 15:42, 31 July 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for everything. Cheers! Optakeover(Talk) 15:43, 31 July 2015 (UTC)

Hopefully my last appeal for help today

Hey Musik. User:Heathmcnease have feedback to me on a reversion of an edit I made in a message on my talk page here: User_talk:Optakeover#About_my_wiki_page. He has said that he doesn't want certain personal information to be made known on the article. I am currently reading WP:BLPPRIVACY. Balancing Wikipedia as an encyclopedia displaying publicly-made info and BLP issues especially requested by the person, can you advise on what should be edited out of the article? Optakeover(Talk) 15:54, 31 July 2015 (UTC)

Edits in question: https://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Heath_McNease&diff=prev&oldid=673903655, https://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Heath_McNease&diff=prev&oldid=673947338. Optakeover(Talk) 15:57, 31 July 2015 (UTC)
Made the first few edits to the dates based on WP:BLPPRIVACY. Unsuprisingly, this is the first BLP request I've received. Optakeover(Talk) 16:11, 31 July 2015 (UTC)
Looks good. The names of the family members are reliably sourced (it seems), but per WP:BLPNAME if they are not themselves notable, there's no particular reason to mention them. The birthdate and birthplace are regularly included on BLPs, provided it is widely published in reliable sources. That may not be the case here, and frankly omitting this information does not lessen the understanding of the subject, so I think it's fine to remove it. My policy is generally to favour caution when working with BLPs, as this is one of our most crucial policies and there are potential legal concerns involved. MusikAnimal talk 16:15, 31 July 2015 (UTC)
Any need for revision history to be deleted? Also good if you could address inform the user with a message on my talk page, if you don't mind. Will also make further changes on family members based on your comment. Optakeover(Talk) 16:18, 31 July 2015 (UTC)
@Optakeover: The birth date should be entirely removed as it's not sourced properly. I see no reason for revdel. --NeilN talk to me 16:27, 31 July 2015 (UTC)
@NeilN: Including the year? Optakeover(Talk) 16:28, 31 July 2015 (UTC)
@Optakeover: Yes. Both sources are essentially directory listings. --NeilN talk to me 16:31, 31 July 2015 (UTC)

The User Script Award!

The User Script Award
So I only just discovered responseHelper and needless to say, it is fantastic. Where has it been all my life?! Better to find it late than never, I suppose. Anyway, it is far from your crowning achievement here but I wanted to thank you for that, as well as for everything else you have done and continue to do around here! Enjoy this very unique award, as a token of my appreciation. Best regards, Swarm we ♥ our hive 08:06, 31 July 2015 (UTC)
@Swarm: Thank you for the kind words!! The idea behind responseHelper came from a script HJ Mitchell recommended, can't seem to find it... anyway they deserve some credit too! I'll take this moment to also express my fondness of you and how excellent of an admin I think you are. Always a pleasure working with you! You should log on the admin IRC channel sometime, it'd be good to have you as a resource and you might enjoy being a part of our silly shenanigans :) Cheers MusikAnimal talk 15:22, 31 July 2015 (UTC)
Wow, well thank you very much, and likewise! I'll be sure to pop into the IRC channel sometime. :) See you around! Swarm 02:08, 1 August 2015 (UTC)

2015 GA Cup - Round 2

WikiProject Good Articles's 2015 GA Cup - Round 2

Greetings, GA Cup competitors!

Wednesday saw the end of Round 1. The Rambling Man, who was eliminated during the first round in our last competition, earned an impressive 513 points, reviewed twice as many articles (26) as any other competitor. It was a tight race for second for first-time competitors BenLinus1214 and Tomandjerry211, who finished second and third with 243 and 224 points, respectively. Close behind was Wugapodes, who earned 205 points.

The change in our points system had an impact on scoring. It was easier to earn higher points, although the key to success didn't change from last time, which was choosing articles with older nomination dates. For example, most of the articles The Rambling Man reviewed were worth 18 points in the nomination date category, and he benefited from it. BenLinus1214 reviewed the longest article, A Simple Plan (at 26,536 characters, or 4,477 words), the 1994 film starring Bill Paxton, Billy Bob Thornton, and Bridget Fonda and directed by Sam Raimi, and earned all possible 5 points in that category.

After feedback from our participants, the judges slightly changed the rule about review length this time out. Shorter reviews are now allowed, as long as reviewers give nominators an opportunity to address their feedback. Shorter reviews are subject to the judges' discretion; the judges will continue their diligence as we continue the competition.

Despite having fewer contestants at the beginning of Round 1 than last time, 132 articles were reviewed, far more than the 117 articles that were reviewed in Round 1 of the inaugural GA Cup. All of us involved should be very proud of what we've accomplished thus far. The judges are certain that Round 2 will be just as successful.

16 contestants have moved onto Round 2 and have been randomly placed in 4 groups of 4, with the top 2 in each pool progressing to Round 3, as well as the top participant ("9th place") of all remaining competitors. Round 2 has already begun and will end on August 29 at 23:59:59 UTC. Information about Round 2 and the pools can be found here.

Good luck and remember to have fun!

Cheers from Dom497, Figureskatingfan, 3family6 and Jaguar, and MrWooHoo.

To subscribe or unsubscribe to future GA Cup newsletter, please add or remove your name to our mailing list. If you are a participant still competing, you will be on the mailing list no matter what as this is the easiest way to communicate between all participants.

Hello from Railsparks

hi musikanimal,i have been trying to make changes to the DDI page but to no avail i am not very good on the wiki pages if i was to have the txt or what changes needed to be done it would be most appreciated.railsparks 04/08/15 Railsparks (talk) 17:32, 4 August 2015 (UTC)

@Railsparks: Removing content without explanation is a common form of vandalism. As stated on your talk page, you may not have as much trouble if you use an edit summary, that way others know what you're trying to do. If you run into a content dispute, try discussing the changes on the talk page. Do not edit war as that could get you in trouble. Discussion is key on Wikipedia.
I also see you tried to open up a Request for Adminship, but did so incorrectly. I've taken the liberty of deleting that page, as it is far too soon for you to be seeking adminship, which is generally reserved for those with a long tenure and several thousand edits. Take your time, there's no rush. Let's first focus on expanding your understanding of how things work here so you can move forward with your valuable contributions.
It looks like no one has formally welcomed you to Wikipedia either. So... welcome! I've left a template at the top of your talk page with some links you might find useful. If you ever need help don't hesitate to ask, the community is here for you! MusikAnimal talk 17:41, 4 August 2015 (UTC)

Edit Counter

Hi, since your name is listed at the bottom of the Edit Counter page and Cyberpower678 is busy IRL, I wanted to ask you a question about this tool. Specifically, where it should say "Article space" or something like that next to the pie chart when you enter a user's username, it instead says "일반 문서". Do you know why this is so and if you can fix it to be in English? Everymorning talk 18:53, 5 August 2015 (UTC)

Hey Everymorning! That Korean text is there presumably because of a bug with the translation tools we are using. We're not quite sure what the problem is, unfortunately. It actually used to be in German before it decided to change to Korean =P The primary author of the xTools suite has long left the project, leaving myself, Cyber and other recruited maintainers to attempt to patch up what is broken and just keep the service running overall. In the short term I don't think we have plans to diagnose this specific bug, as it is not critical. Sorry I could not be of more help! MusikAnimal talk 19:03, 5 August 2015 (UTC)

WP:PERM/A submission

Hey, MusikAnimal – thanks for trying to fix my submission to WP:PERM/A. Honestly, I found the instructions there as clear as mud – how should I have submitted that (so it come out properly)?! Thanks in advance! --IJBall (contribstalk) 22:10, 5 August 2015 (UTC)

@IJBall: Definitely hard to do by hand! There's a link at the top "Add a new request" and then normally all you would have to do is change Reason for requesting autopatrolled rights to your rationale. In your case you were nominating someone else, so you'd also need to change to the appropriate username. That much probably isn't straightforward unless you understand the MediaWiki templating language. Perhaps we should add another link that reads "Nominate user" or something. I'll look into it! Hello from Son of Dòmhnall

Hello MusikAnimal. A couple of points ref the Notification: speedy deletion nomination of Draft:Brigadier Peter Macdonald. (TW)

1. It is intended as a draft; as in something that I am still working on; and 2. I am the author of the obit in the Bristol newspaper (I am a freelance journalist and author). Have you an email address with which I could correspond (mine is pilgrimmaster@aol.com) and I am unfamiliar with this medium? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Son of Dòmhnall (talkcontribs) 08:47, 7 August 2015 (UTC)

@Son of Dòmhnall: Hello and welcome to Wikipedia! I'd prefer to talk here on wiki if that is okay with you. Sorry you are having trouble. As described on your talk page, additions that appear to be copyrighted material are deleted immediately, whether it be in the draftspace or anywhere on the wiki. This purely for legal reasons. Not to worry... we can get it sorted out! For starters, are you sure you own the copyright, or does the Bristol newspaper now own it as you submitted it to them? We'd need explicit authorization to use it on Wikipedia. Sometimes it's easier to simply reword the content. If you'd like to follow through with donating the material for use on Wikipedia, please follow the instructions at WP:DONATETEXT. Let me know if you need any help! No problem, just remember to leave an edit summary saying exactly what you told me, that way others know why you removed it. Sorry if this convention is not more clear. I believe the first time you tried to save you received an automated message saying the same thing... to leave an edit summary. Perhaps you didn't see it? I can try to make that message more prominent so new users like you are aware of this common issue. Thanks MusikAnimal talk 19:31, 7 August 2015 (UTC)

Since the last newsletter, the Editing Team have been working on mobile phone support. They have fixed many bugs and improved language support. They post weekly status reports on mediawiki.org. Their workboard is available in Phabricator. Their current priorities are improving language support and functionality on mobile devices.

Wikimania

The team attended Wikimania 2015 in Mexico City. There they participated in the Hackathon and met with individuals and groups of users. They also made several presentations about VisualEditor and the future of editing.

Following Wikimania, we announced winners for the VisualEditor 2015 Translathon. Our thanks and congratulations to users Halan-tul, Renessaince, जनक राज भट्ट (Janak Bhatta), Vahe Gharakhanyan, Warrakkk, and Eduardogobi.

For interface messages (translated at translatewiki.net), we saw the initiative affecting 42 languages. The average progress in translations across all languages was 56.5% before the translathon, and 78.2% after (+21.7%). In particular, Sakha improved from 12.2% to 94.2%; Brazilian Portuguese went from 50.6% to 100%; Taraškievica went from 44.9% to 85.3%; Doteli went from 1.3% to 41.2%. Also, while 1.7% of the messages were outdated across all languages before the translathon, the percentage dropped to 0.8% afterwards (-0.9%).

For documentation messages (on mediawiki.org), we saw the initiative affecting 24 languages. The average progress in translations across all languages was 26.6% before translathon, and 46.9% after (+20.3%).  There were particularly notable achievements for three languages. Armenian improved from 1% to 99%; Swedish, from 21% to 99%, and Brazilian Portuguese, from 34% to 83%. Outdated translations across all languages were reduced from 8.4% before translathon to 4.8% afterwards (-3.6%).

We published some graphs showing the effect of the event on the Translathon page. Thank you to the translators for participating and the translatewiki.net staff for facilitating this initiative.

Recent improvements

Auto-fill features for citations can be enabled on each Wikipedia. The tool uses the citoid service to convert a URL or DOI into a pre-filled, pre-formatted bibliographic citation. You can see an animated GIF of the quick, simple process at mediawiki.org. So far, about a dozen Wikipedias have enabled the auto-citation tool. To enable it for your wiki, follow the instructions at mediawiki.org.

Your wiki can customize the first section of the special character inserter in VisualEditor. Please follow the instructions at mediawiki.org to put the characters you want at the top.

In other changes, if you need to fill in a CAPTCHA and get it wrong, then you can click to get a new one to complete. VisualEditor can now display and edit Vega-based graphs. If you use the Monobook skin, VisualEditor's appearance is now more consistent with other software.

Future changes

The team will be changing the appearance of selected links inside VisualEditor. The purpose is to make it easy to see whether your cursor is inside or outside the link. When you select a link, the link label (the words shown on the page) will be enclosed in a faint box. If you place your cursor inside the box, then your changes to the link label will be part of the link. If you place your cursor outside the box, then it will not. This will make it easy to know when new characters will be added to the link and when they will not.

On the English Wikipedia, 10% of newly created accounts are now offered both the visual and the wikitext editors. A recent controlled trial showed no significant difference in survival or productivity for new users in the short term. New users with access to VisualEditor were very slightly less likely to produce results that needed reverting. You can learn more about this by watching a video of the July 2015 Wikimedia Research Showcase. The proportion of new accounts with access to both editing environments will be gradually increased over time. Eventually all new users have the choice between the two editing environments.

Let's work together

 • Share your ideas and ask questions at Wikipedia:VisualEditor/Feedback.
 • Can you read and type in Korean or Japanese? Language engineer David Chan needs people who know which tools people use to type in some languages. If you speak Japanese or Korean, you can help him test support for these languages. Please see the instructions at mw:VisualEditor/IME Testing#What to test if you can help.
 • If your wiki would like VisualEditor enabled on another namespace, you can file a request in Phabricator. Please include a link to a community discussion about the requested change.
 • Please file requests for language-appropriate "Bold" and "Italic" icons for the styling menu in Phabricator.
 • The design research team wants to see how real editors work. Please sign up for their research program.
 • The weekly task triage meetings continue to be open to volunteers, usually on Tuesdays at 12:00 (noon) PDT (19:00 UTC). Learn how to join the meetings and how to nominate bugs at mw:VisualEditor/Weekly triage meetings. You do not need to attend the meeting to nominate a bug for consideration as a Q1 blocker, though. Instead, go to Phabricator and "associate" the main VisualEditor project with the bug.

If you aren't reading this in your favorite language, then please help us with translations! Subscribe to the Translators mailing list or contact Elitre directly, so that she can notify you when the next issue is ready. Thank you! Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 00:01, 8 August 2015 (UTC)

I think personally that if someone makes a editing mistake you should cancel it and just leave it at that. Today my little brother came on to the laptop and just started to type, I got a message and I didn't know what to do — Preceding unsigned comment added by Guitars4ever (talkcontribs)

@Guitars4ever: Please see WP:LITTLEBROTHER. We treat any vandalism as just that. You are responsible for keeping your account secure, and if disruption continues we will be forced to take action. Hello from Adamjonmcnamara

Hi, I see you both deleted the added section and regenerated what was there before. I guess that is two points to discuss :)

I disagree regarding the additions being unconstructive. I don't feel you have had any time to examine the article to which it points and refers to and the amount of text is not dissimilar to that given to other ideas on what is bullshit. The idea is very much constructive as it provides a link between a real form of novel propaganda and the term which is used to describe it in the vernacular. If you don't believe this is the case please provide rationale for that.

With regard to what was removed. I felt the section read more like a dictionary than an entry to wikipedia. It was also about what Bullshit wasn't rather than what it was. Whether it stays or goes is something to discuss but is of secondary importance to me. Although it should definitely be edited whatever.

Kind regards

Adam — Preceding unsigned comment added by Adamjonmcnamara (talkcontribs) 16:54, 13 August 2015 (UTC)

@Adamjonmcnamara: Hey! I patrol recent changes, and misidentified your edits as vandalism, and for that I am sorry. Hello from Mikebmr

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

REPLACE THIS TEXT WITH YOUR MESSAGE Mikebmr (talk) 19:51, 10 August 2015 (UTC) Hi--- physician refers to medical practitioners: inclusion of 'chiropractor' within this definition is misleading and inaccurate and suggests that those of that vocation are equivalent to medical professionals in the diagnosis and treatment of illness, injury, or disase--which, by law, chiropractic is forbidden to do.

Hi MusikAnimal, I came here to report a mass deletion because I see that you fixed it last time. Mikebmr has deleted the chiropractic section of the physician article again in this edit [34]. While Mikebmr clearly does not like the content, it is well sourced, so should be left in. Could you please restore it once again? Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.152.109.249 (talk) 19:43, 11 August 2015 (UTC)
Hi again Musikanimal, I am just checking to see if you have looked into the deletion of sourced material by Mikebmr on the physician page yet? I see that you reverted his deletion a couple days ago [35], but he has since deleted it again. I will point out that the physician article history shows that Mikebmr has deleted this content repeatedly over the past few years and has been repeatedly reverted by different editors. For example, he is reverted on 06/15 by you; on 01/13 he is reverted by Puhlaa [36]; on 10/11 he is reverted by SDY [37]; on 09/11 reverted by Jesanj [38]; on 09/11 reverted by Puhlaa [39]; on 08/11 he is reverted by Wtmitchell [40]; on 08/11 by Jesanj [41]; etc. Moreover, there was a discussion about including chiropractors some time ago on the talk page: [42] and a discussion about Mikebmr repeatedly deleting the content here: [43]. The text is sourced and consensus is clearly to keep it, so it would be great if you could look into the most recent deletion by Mikebmr. Thanks 108.181.201.237 (talk) 23:52, 12 August 2015 (UTC)
Hello, sorry for the delay. I've restored the content, as I'm not convinced its removal is warranted. Going to ping Mikebmr so they are aware they were mentioned here, but please resume discussion about the content at Talk:Physician so others can chime in. I'll make one brief remark, that the "law" you speak of Mikebmr may not apply here, as this article is intended to be neutral and representative of all nationalities. The persistence to remove this content over the years is telling, and could get you into trouble. Please discuss as encouraged. Thank you to you both MusikAnimal talk 00:29, 13 August 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for having a look at that! 108.181.201.237 (talk) 04:24, 13 August 2015 (UTC)

Hi--nothing wrong with the chiropractic vocation: however it is incorrect to assert that it is an equivalency to health care providers: there are lots of reasons for that, however the desire of those in the chiropractic field to state an association with the term physician should not be the merit for such inclusiveness here at the page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mikebmr (talkcontribs) 18:00, 13 August 2015 (UTC)

The CMO Survey

Dear Musik, I'm a newbie. We submitted a page https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Draft:The_CMO_Survey but never received confirmation that it was published. I just found out that it was but someone falsified the information. I have tried to edit twice but it was changed back even though I put in summary comments the second time as you recommended. Can you help me? Christine.moorman (talk) 19:12, 13 August 2015 (UTC)

Sorry for getting to you so late. Looks like the page was deleted, so hopefully that addresses your concerns. Let me know if need anymore help! Best MusikAnimal talk 15:05, 14 August 2015 (UTC)

please protect List of supercentenarians who died before 1980 the same way. Disruption also continues at Wikipedia:WikiProject World's Oldest People page too, please protect our version too.
Do not continue to undo others' changes on other pages. I did not protect "your" version, I protected the revision prior to the edit war, which is quite likely the the wrong version. I'm going to back off at this point, my goal was simply to halt the edit war, which you apparently are continuing to do elsewhere. I advise you to use the corresponding talk pages to seek consensus MusikAnimal talk 18:50, 14 August 2015 (UTC)

Edit Counter again

I wanted to ask you about another problem with this tool, which you help maintain. It seems that for everyone except myself [52] it is not working. Do you know why this is the case? Everymorning (talk) 15:19, 17 August 2015 (UTC)

@Everymorning: Just tried it on a few users and it is working fine for me. What issues are you experiencing? Are there errors being returned? Incomplete data? Note that as with any edit counter, it will run slower for the more prolific editors with a high edit count. MusikAnimal talk 16:16, 17 August 2015 (UTC)

Hello from Garchy

Hi,

I've had numerous problems with vandalism on a few pages. Unfortunately the user (definitely tied) has multiple cellular IP's it uses, severely interfering with my attempts to curb the vandalism. Overall, this user has reverted over 10-15 of my edits, with about 12 IP's. I have attempted communication through ALL the IP Talk pages, and usually the user taunts in reply. Recently (this has been going on for 9 days) this has become particularly frustrating, as I feel (even after opening a sock puppet investigation and No Original Research investigation) that I am the only one fighting this problem. A little background: This user has constantly added information about a "T-Squared Records", which cannot be found with any internet search and does not exist in this town. I had tried helping the user, but all attempts have failed. No response from CU's. Is there any help you can offer? This user must be having a kick since they haven't been blocked/banned yet.

Suspected sockpuppets:

Thanks -Garchy (talk) 20:22, 13 August 2015 (UTC)

@Garchy: I have commented and closed the SPI. I don't think admin action is necessary at this time, but if disruption resume do let me know. MusikAnimal talk 14:42, 14 August 2015 (UTC)
Thank you for looking into it! If the problem persists I'll let you know. Thanks, Garchy (talk) 15:01, 14 August 2015 (UTC)
@MusikAnimal: The user is at it again - they have been doing this for about 3-4 weeks so I didn't think they were bound to stop. I'm going to request page protection, but as this user hasn't slowed down with the protections (they just move to other pages) what can we do? 54 - Thanks, Garchy (talk) 14:07, 17 August 2015 (UTC)
This is starting to get ridiculous, page protection doesn't seem to work with this user - 55, 56 - user contributions under this IP - 57 Garchy (talk) 14:11, 17 August 2015 (UTC)
All the pages you've linked to are from 15 August, before page protection was put in place. Could you point me to any recent disruption? MusikAnimal talk 17:20, 17 August 2015 (UTC)
Yup - 58, from yesterday. This user has been vandalizing for two weeks (first vandalism entry 59), and page protection has been placed and expired twice on 3 pages by Airplaneman, an admin who I'm sure can also speak to the vandalism. If you look at the CU case (which you closed), as well as all the links above it should give you a good view of the scope of this vandalism, as well as it being recent, and not a passing fad like you may assume. The reason I came to you is that you've helped me with vandalism issues like this in the past - could you perhaps point me in the correct direction for help with this (or a correct board to post to) if you aren't the right person to help? Garchy (talk) 19:26, 17 August 2015 (UTC)
I should also point out, before sounding too jerky, that I'm really looking for the right way to handle this. To me this looks like a sock-puppet case, but since I don't know the intricacies of the system I don't know if this is the right way to handle this (an SPI case) or if there is another way to do this. Garchy (talk) 19:35, 17 August 2015 (UTC)
@Garchy: No problem, I'm happy to help. However the edits you linked to again were made prior to page protection, on 15 August. This tells me page protection is effective, and if it is limited to a few pages than I believe that's what we should stick with. We can always protect again as needed, and if all goes according to plan the disruptive user will simply move on. There's no need to take further actions unless disruption has been observed. Mind you Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/66.87.125.201 is indeed sockpuppet investigation case page, not a CU case as you previously called it. CU stands for CheckUser, who play a key role in SPI cases with accounts, but do not publicly investigate on IPs which is what we have here. As for the "right way" to handle this, continuing to add to the SPI case may not be necessary. Since page protection works, just request that next time at WP:RFPP or contact me or another admin directly. Thanks again for staying on top of this! MusikAnimal talk 19:42, 17 August 2015 (UTC)

Thank you for the advice! I'll keep an eye on it, and if it gets unmanageable I'll come to you. Thanks, Garchy (talk) 20:05, 17 August 2015 (UTC)

Radio articles

Since IP 72.29.33.107's block expired, they have returned to make multiple unsourced changes across radio pages. No edit summaries, nothing. You were the last admin to deal with them - would you mind taking a look again? Thanks! ScrpIronIV 14:13, 14 August 2015 (UTC)

Blocked 72 hours MusikAnimal talk 15:03, 14 August 2015 (UTC)
Thank you! ScrpIronIV 15:04, 14 August 2015 (UTC)

And immediately agter the last block expired, they are at it again. Nothing on the talk pages, no edit summaries, just changing stations on templates and lists. I don't know if longer term page protection might be more effective? I don't know if they would just move on to different pages, or if a longer block is a better idea. I'm not certain if it is intentional vandalism, or just misguided good faith changes. The changes they have made have been surprisingly consistent. ScrpIronIV 20:19, 17 August 2015 (UTC)

If it's a single IP than a block is definitely more favourable. I agree they might be good-faith edits but unfortunately we are forced to block in this case, given we've more than sufficiently warned them and attempted to discuss the matter. I've reblocked for a week MusikAnimal talk 20:29, 17 August 2015 (UTC)
Thank you again for your time and attention! ScrpIronIV 20:40, 17 August 2015 (UTC)

And here we are again, the individual changed IP's today and is back to the same behavior. They are now using 72.29.32.119. So far, I have kept up with the reversions, but I want to ensure that I am not hounding this user. I trust that my behavior in this matter has been acceptable. ScrpIronIV 13:18, 19 August 2015 (UTC)

Persistent addition of unsourced content is certainly disruptive, and if anything, what we have here can be considered block evasion MusikAnimal talk 14:46, 19 August 2015 (UTC)

Loom bands and Loom (band), BeeApril

Hi there,
I saw that you recently edited the article "Rainbow Loom" (bands) and I hope you can help me. I created an article for the UK band Loom, and I'd like to add a similar page redirect from "Loom (band)" to the "Rainbow Loom" article, and from "Rainbow Loom" to the "Loom (band)" article.
So on top of the Rainbow Loom article it can say:
"For the English rock band, see Loom (band). For other uses, see Loom (disambiguation)."
and for Loom (band) it could say:
"For the plastic loom for rubber bands, see Rainbow Loom. For other uses, see Loom (disambiguation)."
Thanks for your help,

BeeApril (talk) 21:22, 14 August 2015 (UTC)

@BeeApril: Sorry for getting back to you so late. First off, congratulations on your first article! I hope there are many more to come :) I see no one has formally welcomed you to Wikipedia, so allow me to do the honours. I've left some links at the top of your talk page that you may find useful.
As for your inquiry, what you are referring to are called hatnotes, and here I'm not too sure if we really need them. The idea is to help users find what they are looking for, assuming there is some ambiguity. The page name Loom (band) makes it pretty clear the subject is about the band, and not about a particular kind of loom. A better example of an ambiguous title would be Loom. Here we might actually be looking for the band, but since there are several other topics concerning the word "loom", we instead link to a disambiguation page. Hopefully that makes sense... but let me know otherwise. Thanks again for taking the time to contribute to the project, look forward to seeing around! MusikAnimal talk 04:28, 19 August 2015 (UTC)
Oh dear... I've completely misread. You mean to say that Rainbow Loom is a type of rubber band, so the user may come to Loom (band) thinking it is about the rubber band. I also see Loom band redirects to Rainbow Loom, so everything you are saying now makes perfect sense. Apologies! I can help you, as I do think a hatnote is needed here. MusikAnimal talk 04:34, 19 August 2015 (UTC)
Okay, I've added the hatnotes redirect and about to Rainbow Loom and Loom (band), respectively. Not sure if we need to also link to Loom (disambiguation) as those other uses are probably not what the reader was looking for. What do you think? MusikAnimal talk 04:41, 19 August 2015 (UTC)
@MusikAnimal: That's perfect - thank you so much! Loom (disambiguation) isn't needed so don't worry about that. Thanks for the cookies too, they're delicious! -- BeeApril (talk) 16:56, 20 August 2015 (UTC)

Hello from AlecWinPE

Hi MusikAnimal--sorry about that. I'm still learning the ropes, but the reason I did that was because there are two pages: College Union Slam Poetry Invitational and College Unions Slam Poetry Invitational. The former is not exactly what it's called--it's Unions instead of Union. Also, the former wasn't as up to date, as it didn't have the 2015 winners updated so I thought the latter was just a better result. To be honest, I was just trying to be helpful; in the future what should I do? AlecWinPE (talk) 22:30, 20 August 2015 (UTC)

@AlecWinPE: Sorry for taking so long to get back to you. I'm 100% at fault here, you did nothing wrong! I patrol recent changes and saw you removed a large amount of sourced content with the edit summary "third time's the charm", so hopefully you can understand why I thought it was vandalism. Anyway it wasn't, so my apologies! I have redirected the article just as you had it. I've also left some links on your talk page that you might find useful as you get acquainted with Wikipedia. If you ever need help with anything moving forward don't hesitate to reach out to me :) MusikAnimal talk 18:57, 23 August 2015 (UTC)

Hello from AufErsuchen

Hi, I just rewrote the article on Ulrike Haage accordingly to what I did on the german wikipedia. I left some you did write, just made an update. Hope this is OK with you. By the way I'm editing the German wikipedia from time to time. I know her personally and thought both the German and English should contain at least all her works so far. FYI, Her new solo album MAELSTROM will be out September 4, 2015.

Kind regards (AufErsuchen (talk) 18:23, 25 August 2015 (UTC))

Hello from 24.228.25.68

(Redacted) I do not know how to reference the Registry of which he is in and is also in violation. Crimes like these should be part of a persons biography. Not including it when its absolutely true is a crime in itself. [62] 24.228.25.68 (talk) 19:31, 25 August 2015 (UTC)

That source is not the same person at all. Biographies on living persons are taken very seriously, and if you don't have good, solid, reliable sources to support claims like that we will be forced to take preventive measures such as blocking. Either way it is not our aim to add defamation, wholly true or not. For instance, this sort of thing would not go in the lead. Please refrain from making further claims, here on my talk page or anywhere on the wiki. If you'd like to discuss in private you can email me. Thank you for your understanding MusikAnimal talk 19:43, 25 August 2015 (UTC)
I actually did manage to find them on that government registry, but I still don't think this information warrants inclusion as the subject is not really known for it. I could not find additional secondary sources to support it either. For this reason we should not write about it, as no one else is writing about it either. Understand there are serious concerns with stating defamatory content like this about living persons, potentially legal concerns... so we prefer to play it safe. Thanks MusikAnimal talk 20:07, 25 August 2015 (UTC)

A new kind of edit war?

I noticed that you have been commenting on some inappropriate edits by editor MusicAngels (https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User_talk:MusicAngels) and I thought you might be interested in my latest comment on a page reassessment that this editor requested recently: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Talk:W._H._Auden/GA1

This editor seems to be conducting a new kind of edit war: Last month, I removed a few dozen improper hatnotes that the editor had created, and now the editor seems to be taking revenge with a reassessment request that has some very odd features in it. I'll be very grateful if you could look it over and draw your own conclusions. Thanks. - Macspaunday (talk) 09:18, 22 August 2015 (UTC)

@Macspaunday: At very quick glance it seems there is valid justification for good article reassessment. If there are other issues with user conduct beyond this GAR I recommend bringing it to WP:AN/I, if you feel admin intervention is needed. Unfortunately I cannot devote the time to this right now. Sorry I could not be of more help! MusikAnimal talk 19:25, 23 August 2015 (UTC)
Understood. I certainly have no objection to a reassessment at this or any time, and there's no reason to call for intervention. I wanted to put on record that some of the items in the reassessment request are quite questionable. What matters, of course, is the quality of the article, not the rating, so I'll let this matter rest for the moment. - Macspaunday (talk) 20:02, 23 August 2015 (UTC)
I have just left a message on Macspaunday's talk page about the problematic poetry vanity projects created by MusicAngel. May I chime in to say that MusicAngels (https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User_talk:MusicAngels) is the named creator of several very bad poetry pages that he refuses to let anyone edit or criticize. I am anonymous, yes, but I am a professor of poetry and there are quite a few of us startled by his pages and the lack of justifications for their existence. Now they are protected so that nobody can change them.
