Adoption

Hi MusikAnimal. I notice you've put a "request for adoption" template on your userpage. Given the number of users starting on the encyclopedia each day and the number who look for adoption, there can often be a backlog when just displaying the request. You are much more likely to find an adopter if you are pro-active about it, perhaps asking an editor or two from the list of adopters if they would consider adopting you? Good luck in finding someone to help out. WormTT(talk) 10:00, 19 September 2012 (UTC)

  • Thanks for the tip! I actually had someone lined up, but I guess he/she lost interest. Another thing is I'd rather try to find a mentor focusing in my field of interest, which is mainly improving citations (dead links, etc), keeping things up-to-date. Anyways I'll have to check out the adopters list. Thanks again! MusikAnimal (talk) 15:25, 20 September 2012 (UTC)
Hi! You had previously asked me to adopt you, but I wasn't available then. Would you be interested in starting now? Electric Catfish2 16:50, 23 September 2012 (UTC)
  • Hey! Sorry it took so long to get back to you. Wasn't singling you out by the way, I've been crazy busy too! But I am still interested, given we could work together independent of some finite schedule. Never done this before so feel free to fill me in? You mentioned you'd make a dedicated talk page. Let me know what works for you, thanks! MusikAnimal (talk) 01:06, 2 October 2012 (UTC)

I have no idea what this refers to. I am the FAO expert that selected Cuyabeno in 1975 and I single handed rescued Cuyabeno from being run over by settlers in the mid 80 by investing my money to start ecotourism. I gave the link to the FAO report which is on my website.

I am one of the world's most senior conservation biologists (look at birdlist.org) The info I put in on Cuyabeno is rock solid and much better that some of the previous nitwits that chose to put some garbage there. I have been to more than 80 countries under contract by the UN, the World Bank and a variety of Western Governments.

Most of the info on WP comes form my website cuyabenolodge.com as literal copy. As a result I had to rewrite the wording of the text on my website, so it would not be a literal duplication.

In hte past, I had completely stopped contributing my vast knowledge to WP because always nitwits knew better. My time is more valuable than to fight with people of much less competence who delete my texts.

If this is what WP is all about, forget it. Just delete my changes and lets have it over with Have a good day. Dr. Daan Vreugdenhil — Preceding unsigned comment added by Daanv (talkcontribs) 00:59, 1 April 2013 (UTC)

Hey! I'm sorry you're having some trouble with your contributions and I apologize if my notice to you came off as at all hostile. Your vast knowledge of the area is not being questioned nor is your faith as a valuable contributor. While your recent edits to Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve appeared to be constructive, I felt that degree of factual information needed to accompanied by references. Wikipedia is not for original research, but solely for reliable, previously published information. Typically I along with other editors would simply tag questionable information as needing citations rather than remove it, but I felt with the already lacking state of this article more uncited content would only further degrade the quality. As for your website, it unfortunately appears to be commercially driven and therefore may not constitute as a primary third-party source. In other words, we need sources that aren't too closely related to the subject (Cuyabeno), such as a newspaper article or an academic publication. I have moved your contributions over to the Cuyabeno talk page for now where it can be discussed further. Perhaps you and I together can find sources to help verify your work. We want Wikipedians to be bold about their edits, and don't let me discourage you. I'm here to help. Thanks! — MusikAnimal talk 02:28, 1 April 2013 (UTC)

The only thing I tried was improve the value of the information of the article. It makes no difference to our Cuyabeno Lodge whether or not the information is correct, as long there is some info about the reserve and enough info is already there. So I have no commercial interest in improving this page. The argument that something verifiable published info has to be there is pure nonsense. Whomever quoted almost an entire page from our website did not verify anything; he/she blindly copied my texts. So why can't I write some text based on my 4 decades of professional history about CB based on my memory. I have not published my info, because I had other things to do professionally. But at least, my knowledge is far better and more professional than the info of other contributors.

Anyway, I don't have time for this. Just take what you think is useful and delete whatever you find unverified. This is the 4th time I tried to share something on WP over a period of probably 7 years or so and the 4th bad experience. I put my info and knowledge on my 25 websites (inter alia birdlist.org and others) that together have 1,000,000 visits per year and where people are appreciative of the info that I provide free to the general public. Good luck with WP — Preceding unsigned comment added by Daanv (talkcontribs) 03:03, 1 April 2013 (UTC)

Dr. Vreugdenhil, I'm sorry to hear you've had such bad luck with Wikipedia. First off, I realize other contributors to this article have also done a poor job of citing their work, which unbeknownst to me was copied directly from your website. My goal as an editor was to back up this article with some reliable sources, so the addition of yet more uncited material I felt was taking a step back. I hope you can now understand why I chose to revert your edit. I also want you to know I did not accuse you of using Wikipedia as an advert (although this has been an issue with this article), I meant you shouldn't cite your lodge's website as a reference since commercial sites sometimes have subjective or biased views as a marketing strategy.
Back to the issue at hand, I think you may be misunderstanding the concept of verifiability. You don't need to publish your studies in order to contribute your knowledge to Wikipedia. By all means, enlighten us. But anything you do add must be verifiable. Wikipedia is not determined by the beliefs or experiences of its editors, but solely by preexisting published information. This reassures Wikipedia as a source of knowledge for all it's users. One can't assume the editor has professional experience. I encourage you to read over the verifiability article, which details this fundamental core principle.
Sometimes improving Wikipedia means making an exception, and I think this is one of those cases. Every editor brings something different to the table, albeit in this case at odds with Wikipedia policies, but the important thing is the willingness to help, and you clearly have that. I will move your work back to the main article, with the intention of citing it at a later time. Just please be careful as a contributor to always include references, as it is safe to assume any significant uncited edits will be challenged or removed.
Perhaps you could also benefit by familiarizing yourself with the five pillars of Wikipedia. I hope that following these guidelines you will continue to contribute to Wikipedia. Thank you for your time and efforts — MusikAnimal talk 04:52, 1 April 2013 (UTC)

I want to make it very clear: I did NOT cite my own website. When I curiously went on WP some time ago, I found a lot hof text from my website quoted on WP. After that, I rewrote the text on my website (editing, not the content), so that Google would not see it as the same text. I see that you even reversed the some editing errors that I had corrected. Job well-done. Musician from Boston corrects international expert with PhD on national parks management who selected the area and who has been involved with the area ever since. I have worked for the UN, World Bank, a variety of governments over a career of 4 decades with my experience spanning 80 countries. You just reminded me why I should not waste my time trying to share some of my inside information with readers. It simply gets deleted by salon authors like you. I don't mind if someone challenges my info, but I don't work in an environment where someone simply deletes my contribution. Won't contribute to WP again for a very long time. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Daanv (talkcontribs) 10:29, 4 April 2013 (UTC)

Hey, I am Rachel. I am the one (I forgot to sign in) who removed the See Also section on the Domestic robot page. I didn't mean to completely remove the section; that was an accident. However, I would like to organize and rearrange that section. I think the links look sloppy, so I am think I might move some of the links to whatever section (In-Home, etc) that they are most relevant to. I think this will make the article look more professional overall. What you think? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rkwa (talkcontribs) 21:49, 4 April 2013 (UTC)

Sure! I do agree it looks a bit sloppy, however I'm unsure about moving "See Also" links to bottom of other sections, as it may conflict with Wikipedia's manual of style. Unfortunately, I won't have time to work on this for the next few days, but I'd be happy to check back next week. Since the "See Also" links are to other Wikipedia articles, perhaps we could find a way to include them inline with existing text, or with added information provided it flows nicely within the corresponding section. Hopefully that makes sense. Anyways thanks for reaching out to me! Cheers — MusikAnimal talk 00:24, 5 April 2013 (UTC)
I also feel as though there may be too many "See Also" links to begin with... just a thought — MusikAnimal talk 00:28, 5 April 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the welcome and info page. That will really come in handy. And yeah, that is a good idea. I will try to do that over the next few days. The page will probably need more information added to it to be able to include all of the links within the text. I'll go through the links and try to figure out what section they could possibly fit into and what information needs to be added. If you have any ideas, let me know! Rollback granted

Hi MusikAnimal. After reviewing your request for rollback, I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. For more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! ~ Amory (utc) 00:16, 14 April 2013 (UTC)

Hi MsikAnimal, I recently edited the Pittsburgh Dad page, changing "Washington" to "Warshington," as the Pittsburgh accent, which is used in the show, pronounces "wash" as "warsh." It was a fitting contribution, as East Liberty had just been represented as "Sliberty" for the same reason. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.147.210.162 (talk) 20:16, 15 April 2013 (UTC)

My apologies, to me the edit looked unconstructive, albeit quite peculiar. Reverted, and also removing level 1 notice from your talk page. Thanks for letting me know! — MusikAnimal talk 20:31, 15 April 2013 (UTC)

I don't understand how my post wasn't neutral. I was just stated some of the facts and achievements that the Kell High School music program has accomplished. I would know for fact that all of these had happen because I am a member of the Kell Music Program. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.157.102.76 (talk) 20:05, 22 April 2013 (UTC)

Hey! Sorry you are having trouble. I interpreted your edit (specifically the words "well reknown program around the nation") as less than neutral because it lacked references, and such to the extent that I felt it warranted removal. Wikipedia is not for original research, but solely for reliable, previously published information. Anything you do add must be verifiable. Perhaps you could find a reliable source to support these claims and hence they will be less likely to be challenged. Let me know if you need any help! — MusikAnimal talk 20:20, 22 April 2013 (UTC)

Rugby Union articles

Hi, the norm is to retain no more than 1 seasons transfers (as they are basically just a list). Hence I removed the previous season data. Apologies I should have included a comment. Regards Pwimageglow (talk) 07:46, 23 April 2013 (UTC)

Hi,

I edited Helen Flanagan's filmography section, because she will be starring in Celebrity Wedding Planner and that she starred in Celebrity Juice last Friday, so I was simply putting them in the filmography section. So please could you put the TV shows she will be starring in on her filmography section. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.31.80.85 (talk) 18:17, 25 April 2013 (UTC)

Hey there! While your edits are clearly constructive, it is evident to me that you are unfamiliar with wiki markup and hence they were interpreted as test edits, which is why I reverted them. This is not vandalism, but persistent test edits can be a problem for you. Please remember to preview your edits before saving.
As for this new content, I disagree that Celebrity Juice would qualify as an entry in her Filmography. According to this she made but one appearance on the show, while the other entries in her Filmography she is playing a critical role. Perhaps we should create a Other Appearances section, which we could include Celebrity Juice. If Celebrity Wedding Planner is also a TV show and you anticipate but one appearance, I think it should be listed under the Other Appearances. At any rate I'm happy to help you do this. I'm going to copy this conversation and move it over to the Helen Flanagan talk page where we can discuss it further. Thanks for reaching out to me! — MusikAnimal talk 18:51, 25 April 2013 (UTC)
You know what, forget what I said. I think the title TV Appearances says enough. So disregard the need for another section... my apologies =P. I'll add these for you though, and feel free to add more stuff just remember to preview. Cheers! — MusikAnimal talk 19:02, 25 April 2013 (UTC)

hi sorry but the changes you made to the Eltham College page is wrong firstly the unwritten motto within the pupils is actually "i'm just waiting for a mate" i do not believe that you ever went to the school to know anything about it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jakemadmad (talkcontribs) 21:02, 25 April 2013 (UTC)

Hey there! Actually I reverted your edit because of the changes you made to the headmasters section, such as Charles Dugard Makepeace ~> Charles Darwin and Malcolm Green ~> Malcolm in the Middle. These appeared to be vandalistic — MusikAnimal talk 21:16, 25 April 2013 (UTC)

yeah sorry about that part and the early history but the rest is true — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jakemadmad (talkcontribs) 21:19, 25 April 2013 (UTC)

Ok please also support your changes with references. The motto you speak of does sound a bit defamatory toward the school in terms of promiscuity — MusikAnimal talk 21:24, 25 April 2013 (UTC)

how am i meant to give references to something which you had to be a part of as a member of the school - Jakemadmad (talk)

Perhaps it may then not belong in this article. It's important to understand that Wikipedia is not for original research, but solely for reliable, previously published information. Any edits, especially controversial ones as this, must be verifiable. I encourage you to read over the Five Pillars of Wikipedia to learn more about these policies. TV appearances - Helen Flanagan

why don't we put, the Celebrity Juice and Celebrity Wedding Planner, into Helen's filmography box and just add next to them in the notes (1 Episode Guest)???? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Crazydude800 (talkcontribs) 05:47, 26 April 2013 (UTC)

Please discuss on the Helen Flanagan talk page, and also remember to sign your posts with ~~~~ at the end of your comment, this will automatically insert your username and a timestamp. Cheers — MusikAnimal talk 14:42, 26 April 2013 (UTC)

A Mistake I Made

On the article Snapchat You reverted some vandalism before I got there, but I accidentally reverted your version instead of the IP that was making bad edits, but don't worry I rolled it back to your version and I patched up my mistake, anyways I am impressed by your acts on Wikipedia, keep up the good work! Thanks. PBASH607 (The One Day Apocalypse) (talk) 19:54, 26 April 2013 (UTC)

Thank you kind sir! In the race to undo vandalism often someone else will beat you, but it's the willingness to help that matters. Looks like you are using Twinkle, shouldn't it catch the edit conflict instead of reverting someone else's revert? Cheers to you too for your efforts — MusikAnimal talk 19:59, 26 April 2013 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for reverting vandalism on my talk page.--I dream of horses If you reply here, please leave me a {{Talkback}} message on my talk page. @ 02:39, 28 April 2013 (UTC)

Hi. I'm the owner of the .229.96 IP address and I didn't make any changes to the Shire Horse entry. No one in my household has any idea either. We're all baffled. At any rate, you were right to revert the change and I'll keep an eye on my IP address for activity. I don't make edits under my IP anymore -- only under this user name. Cheers, John Schulien (talk) 16:24, 28 April 2013 (UTC)

No worries, that was only a general note for removal of sourced content. Any measures taken against this mysterious IP user will have no effect on your account. Cheers — MusikAnimal talk 17:36, 28 April 2013 (UTC)

Hello, at lower concentrations piperidine smells like semen. While I do not have a peer-reviewed reference stating this, there is significant anecdotal evidence for it. I can see how it may appear to be a joke edit, but I can assure you that it is not. Please halt your censorship of the truth unless you have actual evidence against it.

Thankyou, someone who knows. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.95.93.139 (talk) 06:12, 29 April 2013 (UTC)

Hey there! Wikipedia is not censored, but it's important to understand we don't retain edits because they can't be disproven. Wikipedia is not for original research, but solely for reliable, previously published information. Anything you add must be verifiable. If you can provide a reliable reference, and perhaps word it a little better, such edits will be much less likely to be challenged or removed. Let me know if you need any help. You reverted an edit of mine for a reason I think is incorrect, I'd like to explain & see if we can agree

From your handle you may not in fact have been the actual human that reversed my edit on the topic of Shard (database architecture). (TW) . I'm guessing this because your page here and handle don't sound like this computer tech topic is up your alley, but hey we all have diverse talents. Assumning you did reverse my edit:

I was not trying to advertise, but in the case of software that isn't open-source but produced by some company, how CAN one make mention of where to read more about that software if not by a link to that company's site? The open-source software had similar links to their main page. There must be a judgement call in whether simply linking to a corporate page is "advertising or promoting". The open-source, or not-yet-used-doctoral-dissertation software mentioned here is equally being advertised or promoted ... the larger the community open-source or one-off software has the more prestige the authors get and that directly translates into $ (either a job or a promotion in their current job for most open-source group members - I know as I was part of one and have many collegues that are currently). If this makes sense to you and your reconsideration tells you my edit was not advertising but simply adding valuable content to the article, please re-put my edit. If you still disagree, I ask that you email me at atjolin@gmail.com (my jolin@us.ibm.com company email will go away soon as I'm retiring) and explain where my logic fails. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by FontOfSomeKnowledge (talkcontribs) 23:35, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

Hey there, thank you for getting in touch with me about this. I am actually very familiar with database architecture, I am a web developer and use MySQL, Mongo, etc, but that all is irrelevant to why I reverted your edit. I patrol recent edits on Wikipedia and being human I do make mistakes. Wording like "highly-scalable" and the usage of the external link did appear promotional to me, but I can see now that this was not your intention. Lets re-add your work and improve on it a little. First off, external links should generally not go in the body of the article, but turns out there is an existing article for eXtreme Scale, so we'll use that. Secondly, I think the lengthiness of describing the software as whole might lend undue weight to this software in contrast to the others. Remember this section of the article is about software that supports shards, so we should stick to that topic and disregard other software features. Get more information about what words to watch for at WP:WORDS. Next, let's add a reference. You might be able to find a suitable one in the main eXtreme Scale article. All we need is a reliable reference stating this software supports sharding.
Last but not least, when you leave a message on a talk page (like this one) please sign your post by adding four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your post, this will automatically insert a signature with your username and a timestamp. I'd prefer if you talked to me on here but I will also email you.
Let me know if you need any more help! — MusikAnimal talk 00:14, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

MusikAnimal, thanks very very much for your succinct tutorial on wiki. I'm an extreme old-bie to IT (retiring in 2 months but not falling off the face of the earth ;-) but very newbie to wiki contributions (in fact, maybe this isn't even the right way to reply to you on a talk page ... sorry if not). I took your comments to heart and redid my edit on the shard topic, I'll look back here (not my email anymore) for whether you approve of the new edit or not. If you are typical of the patrollers then wikipedia is in good hands. FontOfSomeKnowledge (talk) 14:22, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

Thank you for your kind words! Regarding your revised edit, I only removed little part, It uses sharding as a fundamental part of its design in order to achieve scalability. We try to make articles as concise as possible, especially with technical language. The wording I removed is hardly technical, but does make the sentence more concise. If you think you can make it more concise feel free to do so. As for your reference, we base articles upon third-party sources, and since the software is by IBM referencing the IBM website would not qualify as third-party. However, this is a pretty minute detail. We just want to show that the software supports shards, nothing controversial or likely to be challenged, so in this case I think this sole primary source will is fine. Last thing, it is good practice to include an edit summary to explain what you changed in your edit. This may be especially true in our case since you and I are editing the same sentence over a short period of time, which other patrollers might interpret as being an edit war. Don't worry about that though, in my edit summary I've linked to this conversation.
And by the way, you are right on point with the talk page. Sometimes as a we'll indent our response with a colon ( : ) or multiple colons as needed. I'm indenting my response and you're inline with the left, easy to see the thread, all is well.
Hopefully I haven't overwhelmed you with these Wikipedia concepts. Take your time, be bold, you are off to a great start. Note also the Welcome links I put on your talk page. These are some great tools to help you with your involvement. Anytime you have any questions don't hesitate to ask me, or write your question and add {{help me}} next to it on your talk page, and someone will be over soon. Thank you for your contributions. Cheers! — MusikAnimal talk 16:51, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
It's all good. The one phrase you removed was to note that sharding is not just an added feature or a minor function; in WXS sharding is indeed a fundamental part of its design. From my reading of the other entries it doesn't appear sharding is as fundamental to them, so I wanted to call this out. I will leave it up to you to add my phrase back in or leave it out. Thanks again for the assistance here. FontOfSomeKnowledge (talk) 17:29, 12 May 2013 (UTC)

Evel

Hi I just posted that Evel change. I'm trying to edit a page incorrectly and keep the post up long enough to show students how wikis work. How did you edit that random thing so fast? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.188.253.129 (talk) 05:02, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

Hello! If you want to show your students how wikis work, the place to do so is the sandbox. There you are free to experiment and do any test edits you wish. Performing test edits on live articles is considered disruptive, as users might happen upon that page during the brief time you did your test edit, and see that Evil Knievel spent 29 days in a pumpkin. I monitor recent changes which is how I caught this so fast. Hope this helps! Thanks — MusikAnimal talk 05:09, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

Signature

Hi MusikAnimal,

In regards to my signature, it just recently started doing that and is inconsistent. Sometimes it makes a boxy signature but other times it does not. I'm not really sure what is going on. Do you? Sosthenes12 (talk) 23:13, 7 May 2013 (UTC)Sosthenes12

Paste in your markup here and wrap it in a nowiki tag like so: <nowiki>your signature markup</nowiki>. I'll check it out in the sandbox, I imagine it's something simple. — MusikAnimal talk 23:17, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

If you're referring to the box labeled "signature" under preferences, then it is blank. I never touched it... Sosthenes12 (talk) 23:19, 7 May 2013 (UTC)Sosthenes12

Weird, I can't figure out why the signature looks normal here but in other places it's boxy.

Sosthenes12 (talk) 23:19, 7 May 2013 (UTC)Sosthenes12

I see... you put your signature on a new line and preceded it with a single space, like so:
Sosthenes12 (talk) 23:19, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
This turns it into the poem format. So just that if you put ~~~~ on a new line simply don't put a single space before it. That should be it. Cheers — MusikAnimal talk 23:21, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

Thanks so much! Sosthenes12 (talk) 23:25, 7 May 2013 (UTC)Sosthenes12

No problem! — MusikAnimal talk 23:26, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

Sorry, one question: how did you get your signature to look like it does? It's very nice. Sosthenes12 (talk) 23:33, 7 May 2013 (UTC)Sosthenes12

The exact markup I use which you are welcome to steal is
[[User:Sosthenes12|<font color="black"><b><i>Sosthenes12</i></b></font>]] [[User talk:Sosthenes12|<font color="green" ><b>talk</b></font>]]
I changed the markup to link to your userspace and not mine. Maybe change the colour so my signature will remain unique? :) — MusikAnimal talk 23:36, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
You know what, I just marked a page for CSD, I look at the automated message put on the creator's talk page, and sure enough my signature is in a poem box. This, my friend, is a bug in that particular template! I will fix/report this now — MusikAnimal talk 23:52, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

Nice catch! I assumed it was something I was doing. And thanks for the code. I chose to spell my name in Greek (a bit nerdy I know) so yours will definitely stay unique! Thanks again!

Re: NYC Wikinic

Howdy. This fight over the Queens bias has been a problem the last couple years, and I'm rather sick of it. We've had Prospect Park events before, and I would love a change. I am a Queens native, and I've fought for a long time over this, with arguments about lack of subway service. This chapter has a serious Manhattan and Brooklyn bias, and I have every intent of changing that. Mitch32(It is very likely this guy doesn't have a girlfriend.) 03:28, 11 May 2013 (UTC)

Haven't seen these threads but I'd hardly call it biased, accessibility is a big factor, and Prospect Park clearly has that. At any rate, I've been there tons of times, but zero times to Flushing Meadows. The Wikinic would give me that extra push to finally go, I want to see the Unisphere, see the Queens Museum of Art, the Panorama. I support. — MusikAnimal talk 17:44, 11 May 2013 (UTC)
A lot of the discussion has gone on at meetings and IRC, so there is little record on Wiki of it. Mitch32(It is very likely this guy doesn't have a girlfriend.) 18:48, 11 May 2013 (UTC)

popozuda mistranslated?

I've put into parenthesis a rough translation of what Valesca Popozuda would mean as "Valesca Big Booty", but it was removed. Bad translation? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 177.102.80.213 (talk) 03:17, 14 May 2013 (UTC)

Looks like you are indeed correct, surely you can see why it was misconstrued as vandalism. Your edit, while constructive, I still think is unnecessary as the rough translation you speak of is already mentioned in the lead section, which we like to keep as concise as possible. At any rate I've removed the notice from your talk page. Thanks for getting in touch with me about this. — MusikAnimal talk 03:29, 14 May 2013 (UTC)

Fictional politicians

Hello. In response to your note, I removed this content as I have created a new page for fictional British politicians - List of fictional British politicians - to ease some of the pressure off of the List of fictional politicians article. My apologies for not making this clear. --Crablogger (talk) 20:08, 15 May 2013 (UTC)

hey musikanimal. i don't understand the shared servers function on here, but i have never visited "Ares" before and did no editing or adding of a personal view. maggiegirldog jim 5/18/13Maggiegirldog (talk) 13:55, 18 May 2013 (UTC)

Hmm, no one was said you did anything to the Ares article...? The warnings you are most likely referring to were issued to the IP user 2001:5B0:27FF:1CF0:0:0:0:37. I'm guessing this is your computers IP, and when you were logged out someone else in your household made the edits to the Ares article. At any rate you have nothing to worry about. Your IP and your registered account are treated as two different users, so any actions taken against the IP user will not effect your account. Hope this helps — MusikAnimal talk 14:52, 18 May 2013 (UTC)

Edit?

I wasn't aware that I made any edit, constructive or otherwise, to the On-To-Ottawa-Trek page. I was viewing "Military history of Canada during World War II" and have not accessed the "On To Ottawa Trek" page to my knowledge. Is this an IP address thing?? 76.68.97.197 (talk) 19:32, 20 May 2013 (UTC)

Hello! You most likely then have a shared IP address, meaning someone else made that edit. To avoid further irrelevant notices, consider creating an account. Then you can log out when you're done editing and any actions taken against the IP user will not effect you as a contributor. Cheers — MusikAnimal talk 19:48, 20 May 2013 (UTC)

Hi MusikAnimal - out of respect for the families in Sandy Hook, CT, I suggest that Adam Lanza be removed as a "notable alumni" of Newtown High School on the Newtown High School (Connecticut) Wikipedia page. On a technical note, he's not an alum as he did not graduate from Newtown High School. My apologies for deleting without leaving a comment - I'm uncertain as to the "rules" of wikipedia editing... 98.24.34.28 (talk) 17:11, 21 May 2013 (UTC) Kara Meadors 5/21/13

Hey there, omitting such information out of respect is very thoughtful of you, but unfortunately Wikipedia is not censored, and given his notoriety this would be considered encyclopedic information. If he is not alumni perhaps we could reword the section to accomodate his attendance, as I'd argue to mention of such is valuable to the reader. At any rate, it is important that you refrain from removing this information as it is considered edit warring. There is currently a discussion regarding this on the talk page, where your input is welcomed; for now, the consensus is keep. We appreciate your good intentions as a contributor. Cheers — MusikAnimal talk 17:27, 21 May 2013 (UTC)

Hi, I also recently made an article on Soundgarden's King Animal Demos, I was wondering if you could help me with that article by adding the album cover, and whatever else you think it needs. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Alex weiner (talkcontribs) 21:25, 23 May 2013 (UTC)

Help editing one more article.

Hey, just want to thank you for the help with the Soundgarden articles, I also recently created an article for a Beach Boys compilation. I'm still a noob at editing articles, so I was wondering if you could also help with that one as well. I'd like to add the album cover and if you could add references as well, I'd greatly appreciate it. Hey! I'm afraid your edit is considered disruptive as it appeared to be fan-based commentary about the subject. E.g. Wikipedia is not a social network. Any commentary you may have about how to improve the article itself is welcomed on the accompanying talk page. Mullingar

Hello and thanks for reverting the unconstructive IP edit to Mullingar. This sort of personal attack has been appearing from different IPs every few months on Mullingar and related pages for some years now. The target even complained about it in 2011. I'm not sure whether we should take it further or, if so, how best to do that. You're obviously a more experienced editor; any suggestions? Certes (talk) 19:46, 29 May 2013 (UTC)

Wow, thanks for bringing this up. I don't know if it's been done before, but I've requested page protection as a result of persistent vandalism. Specifically I asked for pending changes protection, which is the lowest level of protection, below the more common semi protection. This will allow other IP and unconfirmed users to make constructive edits, which must then be reviewed. In the end it's up to the administrators, but I think once they glance at the history they'll agree some form of protection is needed. Cheers — MusikAnimal talk 20:11, 29 May 2013 (UTC)
I see your request for protection has been granted. Let's hope that solves the problem. Thanks for your help. Certes (talk) 21:18, 29 May 2013 (UTC)

Hi,

You removed as unsourced the statement I added regarding narcissism.[1] Don't you think some statement regarding narcissism is required to justify the huge template at the bottom of the nepotism article? (Template:Narcissism) Farrajak (talk) 19:54, 29 May 2013 (UTC)

I'm assuming by your lack of response that the template can be removed as unsourced? And that you will stand behind me if I do it? (judging by your reaction to my mild attempt to introduce the issue into the article)? There are no sources or even mentions in the article regarding narcissism, not enought to justify the template. So to be consistent with your WP:WEASEL etc, shouldn't the template be removed? Farrajak (talk) 20:10, 29 May 2013 (UTC)

Hey there, sorry for the delayed response. I was not aware that the narcissim template was appended to this article; even so I don't think this would necessarily imply that someone practicing nepotism is suffering from narcissim. In this case I would refrain from assuming such a connection and start a discussion on the templates talk page. No need to add to the ambiguity. Do note your edit was reverted as good faith, so no worries there. Cheers — MusikAnimal talk 20:22, 29 May 2013 (UTC)
You don't assume a connect between a template on an article page and the article content? (I don't understand that reasoning.) I have started many discussions with Penbat, but he just flatly disregards my concerns. Penbat is persistent in defending any attempts to clean up the template. You should look at it. Not Wikipedia's finest hour. Penbat doesn't understand the term "narcisism" and has a vested interest in his humongous template. No one has the energy to go through what it takes to clean the thing up. My attempt to at least introduce the topic narcissism into the nepotism article body would start to draw attention to the problem, and perhaps force Penbat to add some sources, but that was reverted by you, so it's hopeless. Cheers, Farrajak (talk) 20:31, 29 May 2013 (UTC)
You reverted my attempts to introduce the subject of narcissism in Valley girls also. You may not be aware that introducing needed information into an article to justify a template is okay editing and an attempt to help the article. It points out that the information is missing. Thus I've removed the templates from the two articles (which I would have left if you had allowed my attempt to add the term to the articles.) Cheers, Farrajak (talk) 20:39, 29 May 2013 (UTC)
Sorry, allow me to clarify. Clearly some editor has concluded the two topics are related. I think assuming that practicing nepotism could mean one suffers from narcissism is a big jump. They are both categorized under Discrimination as related articles, as opposed to narcissism being categorized under nepotism. Hopefully you can now see the distinction between categorizing two articles as being directly related (which was not the case to begin with), as opposed to the two being children of the parent topic of discrimination. If you are still concerned about the connection, the template talk page is place to discuss this. Just try not to jump to conclusions. I'm going to be busy here for the next hour or so, but just know I'm here to help. — MusikAnimal talk 20:44, 29 May 2013 (UTC)
Sorry, I don't understand. We're not talking about categorizing the articles, although it would be strange if the huge template is on an article but the article is seen as unfit to be put in the template's category. I'm talking about the appropriateness of the huge narcissism template on the articles, when narcissism is no where mentioned in the articles. Again, this is the template. In the case of valley girls, the template is larger than the article! Farrajak (talk) 20:51, 29 May 2013 (UTC)

You are absolutely right. I'm sorry, I'm doing a lot of things at once right now and failed to see that narcissim was present as a separate template rather than a related topic within the discrimination template. It is odd that narcissism isn't mentioned anywhere in the nepotism article, so I think that may warrant removal, for now, however we should still start a discussion on the narcissism template talk page as nepotism has yet to be removed from that template. Others may disagree. I apologize for the huge confusion here, and also my inability to respond swiftly. — MusikAnimal talk 21:00, 29 May 2013 (UTC)

Since I'm not allowed by you to note flaws needing fixing by wikipedia standards, I will take up your practice of removing info in articles that isn't sourced or is weaselly by your standards. Farrajak (talk) 20:57, 29 May 2013 (UTC)
Please understand I'm trying to help. What I was trying to say is that introducing more ambiguity does not solve the problem, especially since you made a connection that wasn't stated to begin with. This is much less of an issue of noting flaws in article but rather the approach to do so. I think you were right in removing the template, so don't stress it. I realize this was difficult to indicate to the reader that such connection is being questioned, as there is but a template at the bottom rather than actual context to refer to in the body of the article. Your reasoning is right on point, I merely disagreed with your approach. Finally, it should be easy to see how your original edit was misconstrued as a good faith edit yet didn't contribute much to the article. I told you on your talk page to get in touch with me if you had questions and I am glad you did. It is important to remain civil until a consensus can be reached. As I said I will be tied up in the near future, but we are safe to leave things as they are for now until we can discuss further. I appreciate your willingness to work cooperatively on this issue. — MusikAnimal talk 21:10, 29 May 2013 (UTC)
Why did you remove the category "narcissism" from Nepotism but not from Valley girls? According to your reasoning? Neither article mentions "narcissism". Farrajak (talk) 21:08, 29 May 2013 (UTC)

Thanks?

I pressed "thank" for this edit [2]. Did that show up anywhere else? This "thank" option looks new. Howicus (talk) 23:31, 30 May 2013 (UTC)

Hello MusikAnimal. I wanted to let you know that I undid one of my recent contributions, such as the one you made with this edit to Wikipedia:Copyright violations, because it didn’t appear constructive to you.
