A tag has been placed on TheFlyStop.com requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. TheFlyStop.com is NOT a reliable source

[edit]

Msumvp - Based on your repeated addition of TheFlyStop.com as a source on fish and fishing related articles, I am assuming you have some connection with this commercial organization. I also see where the article you created has been nominated for speedy deletion. I suspect it will not survive WP's rigorous notability and verifiability requirements, but that is another issue. I noted that in your contested deletion comments you think there's more information to add on fly fishing to the encyclopedia. I couldn't agree more. However, make sure when you do add information it is encyclopedic in nature, not intended to promote a specific organization, especially a commercial enterprise. Your repeated use of TheFlyStop.com as a source is very much indicative of the desire to promote that company instead of adding reliable, well sourced content to WP. Please continue to help improve articles in WP but also please become familar with our guidelines and policies, especially WP:Notability, Verifiability and Reliable Sources. There are 1000s of reliable, peer reviewed sources on fly fishing. Use them instead of trying to promote TheFlyStop.com by continuously linking to their website. Such links will almost invariably be reverted. If you persist in ignoring this warning, you could be subject to blocks. You want to avoid that if you truly desire to help improve the encyclopedia. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask me on my talk page. --Mike Cline (talk) 10:36, 6 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

actually Mike I have no affiliation with them except for the fact they are my main store I use for all my fly and info. They are the largest fly catalog and inventory of a store anywhere. Wikipedia is totally devoid of a bunch of important companies....if youll notice i was trying to start pages for scott lamson sage(farbanks) tibor ect. The problem with the industry is a bunch of people not knowing anything about the options and the few people who do like to browbeat people who dont know info but dont make it available to them. So no I am not spamming fly stop. They just happen to be where I started because they are closest my list went flystop, hatch, abel reels, farbanks lamson scott....as I was going geographically from me. Getting helpfullness and less pushback would be awesome Msumvp (talk) 19:05, 6 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Msumvp. Don't despire, learning how to contribute to Wikipedia productively just takes a little experience. The most difficult thing to learn is what "encyclopedic" content is all about. I was making the same types of mistakes you've made when I started 8 years ago. Your interest in improving content on fly fishing topics is very welcome and I will be happy to help you learn the ropes. Unfortunately, there are many topics, especially products and companies that just haven't been discussed in any detail in Reliable Sources independent of the topic. This makes writing encyclopedic content that meets WP norms difficult. My advice for you is to do three things. Spend some time reading the basic guidelines for notability, verifiability and reliable sources. As you get familiar with them, don't hesitate to ask me questions on my talk page. Second, tackle some non controversial edits on familiar topics and cite your contributions with sources that clearly meet WP:RS standards. Third, as you contemplate new articles, draft the articles in your user space first and ask me or others to review and discuss first. I can help you start that process. That can help avoid the frustration of deletion and will help you learn the ropes much faster. As you can see from my user page I am a Campus Ambassador and Wikipedia Visiting Scholar at Montana State University. Over the years I've helps a lot of students and faculty learn how to contribute productively to WP. I will be happy to do the same for you. --Mike Cline (talk) 23:37, 6 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
