Notability of Thighbanz

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Thighbanz, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. NeilN 22:48, 28 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of Urbanfilmclub.com article

[edit]

I deleted this article because it was written as an advertisement. It would have needed a complete re-write in order to become an encyclopedia article. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. Please review Wikipedia's policies on neutral point of view, verifiability before you re-create the article. I'll also leave you some links to some nice pages that describe how to make contributions that will help the encyclopedia. Sancho 02:43, 29 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

UrbanFilmClub.com

[edit]

I didn't delete the article because the subject was not notable (I didn't even look into weather or not it was notable); I deleted the article because it was written in a style that came across as advertisement, and would have needed a complete re-write to sound like an encyclopedia article. This is one of the criteria listed at Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion. You asked for what you need to do in order to correct this. I'll give you some specific examples from the version of the article that was deleted that are not acceptable in an encyclopedic article that adheres to Wikipedia's policy on neutral point of view. (The added emphasis is my own, to show the sections of the sentences that are most outside of the neutral point of view policy.)

  • "UrbanFilmClub.com delivers the best and most complete offering of urban entertainment-content direct to consumers"
  • "Created by leaders in the urban entertainment arena, UrbanFilmClub.com provides a groundbreaking approach to deliver to one of the world’s most powerful consumer audiences, the urban community, what they have been searching for in entertainment"
  • "Via DVD or digital delivery to homes, phones, offices, mailboxes and computers across the country, UrbanFilmClub.com will bring content to a mass urban audience."
  • "UrbanFilmClub.com will be able to provide a quality selection of urban programming featuring some of urban entertainment’s biggest names such as Steve Harvey, Cuba Gooding, Jr., Terrance Howard, Snoop Dogg and Vivica A. Fox."

These sentences do not conform to the encyclopedia's neutral point of view policy. Also, you didn't provide evidence of significant coverage of this subject in reliable, third party sources that are independent of the subject. This is also required. If you have further questions, first read the links that I left you above, and then you can also ask me for more assistance. Sancho 21:43, 29 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
