All of the below was written by Michael Wein, about Michael Wein's contributions to Wikipedia.
Wikipedia asks for sources, a wise idea, but most of the time the sources appear to be quotations from various publications. It occurred to me that the publications quoted are merely scholar's opinions and statements that the original scholars, themselves, have observed in various places.
At the time of my writing the many additions that I have made to the pages of Wikipedia, all (at least up to the time of this writing) have been from my own personal first hand eye-witness experiences and observations. I have quoted no one but what my own eyes have seen and what my own experiences have been. As of today, now in my 78th year of life, I have edited Wikipedia for only things that I have personally known. They include:
...Rooting for the Cleveland Browns football team between 1946 and 1980-something.
...Attending and graduating from Rider University during the years 1953 through 1957.
...Living in San Miguel de Allende, Gto., Mexico, between 1993 and (at least) 2018.
...as a great fan of Mike Nichols and Elaine May, I attended the Broadway performance of An Evening with Nichols and May that I referred to in my contribution to the Elaine May page.
...Living in midtown Manhattan (New York County, within New York City) during the period 1960 to 1993, all but the first 7 years at 345 E. 52nd Street, Apt 2-F, the source of much of my first hand knowledge.
...Being a CPA (a "something" not needing separation periods as in C.P.A.) and practicing the various disciplines as an outgrowth of the education and experiences of a Certified Public Accountant in the non-usual practice of consulting as opposed to tax work and accounting.
...working with and for Cartrivision's Frank Stanton, my mentor, during its short existence 1971-1973.
...watched the fledgling DuMont Television network during the early years of TV in New York City (1949-1950's)
...was a consultant to the Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilt Racing Stables, Sagamore Farms, home of the great stallion, Native Dancer.
...was a personal friend of Lucy Komisar in her early, feminist days.
...was an expert user of Lotus Symphony, successor to Lotus 1-2-3, the software that made PC computers a necessity for businesses and homes. Used Symphony as my most used software tool between 1983 and 2004 (when I succumbed to the more universal usage of Microsoft Excel, even though I still consider Symphony's easy to create macros and if-then-else conditional automation better than Excel's similar tools)
...And other things that I inputted to Wikipedia

[edit]Hello. This is a message to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions, such as the edit you made to Rich and Famous (play), did not appear to be constructive and have been reverted. Please take some time to familiarise yourself with our policies and guidelines. You can find information about these at our welcome page which also provides further information about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. If you only meant to make test edits, please use your sandbox for that. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you may leave a message on my talk page. That content has no place in an article. It was unsourced, we don't add content based on editor's opinions, and we don't add commentary to articles. I you wish to discuss the article's content then do so on the article's talk page, not in the article, but saying the equivalent of "I saw it and I disagree" is not going to get you anywhere. We edit based on what reliable, published source say. Meters (talk) 19:39, 14 July 2021 (UTC)
- Based on your earlier post to this page you simply do not seem to understand the concept of WP:V. This is policy. Your opinions are not acceptable. Meters (talk) 19:41, 14 July 2021 (UTC)
I am a now in 2021 an 85 year old man who has dedicted his life to helping others. Since 2002, when I started my own (self-funded, accept NO contributions from others) charitable foundation (The Michael Paul Wein Charitable Foundation, Inc.) wherein I have left something in excess of us$11,000,000 to other charities that benefit mostly impoverished women and children, I spend most of my time working to help "others". When I came across Wikipedia some 8 or so years ago, I contributed things that I deemed useful and not then noted on various pages where I had life experiences in my first 70 or so years of living. I read and obeyed the regulations of Wikipedia then. Since then, I have lost most of my eyesight, am aflicted by lung-disease wherein I must be on supplementary oxygen 24 hours a day, and short term memory loss makes my excellent long term memory that much more useful, so I tried to add the few things to Wikipedia that crept into my mind and memory from time to time. APPARENTLY YOU DON'T FIND WHAT I HAVE TO OFFER USEFUL ANY MORE. FINE. I DON'T WISH TO INTRUDE WHERE I AM NOT USEFUL. IF YOU THINK MY EARLIER INPUT IS NO LONGER USEFUL, I WON'T FEEL HURT IF YOU REMOVE IT. BUT THE WORLD COULD HAVE USED IT IF THEY WERE INTERESTED. MY REPUTATION FOR EXACTITUDE, GOOD OLD MEMORY, AND PRECISION FOR DETAILS IS SOMETHING I AM STILL PROUD OF AND MY OLD CLIENTS STILL TREASURE THAT WHICH I USED TO USE IT FOR WITH THEM. The current fact is is that I can no longer see enough to read your newer regulations, no longer remember them if I could see them (due to short term memory problems), and it is too difficult these days to do the research you require of me even for my own use. Thanks for the past usage. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mpwinsma (talk • contribs) 19:59, July 14, 2021 (UTC)
- Sorry you feel that way, but we don't know who you are, and we simply cannot use your experiences and memories as unsourced claims in articles, regardless of who you are. As for your previous additions, if you check you'll see that most (perhaps all) of them have long since been removed by other editors (not by me). Certainly the ones I looked at were more of the same and had been removed. I'm surprised that no-one had mentioned the need to reliably source claims before this.
