Conflict of Interest

[edit]

If you have a close connection to some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article Mort Fertel, you may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred from the tone of the edit and the proximity of the editor to the subject, are strongly discouraged. If you have a conflict of interest, you should avoid or exercise great caution when:

  1. editing articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with;
  2. participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors;
  3. linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam);
    and you must always:
  4. avoid breaching relevant policies and guidelines, especially neutral point of view, verifiability, and autobiography.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have conflict of interest, please see Wikipedia:Business' FAQ. For more details about what constitutes a conflict of interest, please see Wikipedia:Conflict of Interest. Thank you. Friday (talk) 14:35, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Mort Fertel

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Mort Fertel, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be blatant advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read our the guidelines on spam as well as the Wikipedia:Business' FAQ for more information.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. ukexpat (talk) 14:43, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not add advertising or inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did in Relationship counseling. Wikipedia is not a mere directory of links nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that exist to attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam policies for further explanations of links that are considered appropriate. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. See the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. - Adolphus79 (talk) 16:00, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re your message on my talk page. First I assume you are Mr Fertel from your username. Second, even though you may not have intended it, the article read like a resumé, curriculum vitae, vanity piece, etc and that is why I nominated it for deletion, on the basis that it was promotional (it was actually deleted by an admin). Several points -- because of your apparent conflict of interest you should avoid writing articles about yourself. Articles with inherent COI receive even more scrutiny than other articles. You should familiarise yourself with WP:BIO, WP:BLP, WP:N, WP:V, WP:RS and WP:SPAM - these are the relevant policies and guidelines for the purposes of this discussion. As for images, please see WP:IMAGE. Hope this helps. – ukexpat (talk) 18:21, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re your follow up message. You should consider changing your user name as the existing one could lead to confusion (well it confused me anyway!). As I explained above, even though you are not intending to write a resume or an advertisement, the article certainly read like it. Each article on WP is judged on its own merits so the fact that other stuff exists is not relevant. As it happens, I think there are problems with the John Gottman article too. I suggest you create the article first as a subpage of your user page -- I have created a subpage for you here: User:Mortfertel/Mort Fertel and added a sandbox template to it so other users know you are using it to work on an article. Edit that subpage to create your article and when you think it's ready, ask a few other editors to take a look at it for you and make suggestions. Assuming all is OK, it can then be moved to the mainspace. Hope this helps. – ukexpat (talk) 19:24, 20 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Flagging Mort Fertel for further review

[edit]

Hello, Mortfertel … I recently encountered the article about Mort Fertel and in my opinion, it either lacks sufficient Attribution that it satisfies the Notability criteria for Biographies, or it may violate the Conflict of interest guideline, or perhaps it violates a copyright.

I am considering tagging Mort Fertel (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) for deletion according to the Deletion policy … I do not have time to examine the article in depth at the moment, and it may improve over time, in which case this warning was premature.

I have created this initial entry on your Talk page because you are either the original author of the article, or else a recent contributor to it; I will leave more detailed information regarding my specific concerns about the article on its Discussion page … please respond either there or on this Talk page, instead of on my Talk page, in order to avoid fragmenting the conversation.

Be sure to read Ownership of articles, and remember that Some Other Editors (including at least one administrator) may not share your opinion about the notability of the article's subject.

I do not mean to imply that your contribution is unappreciated … perhaps you should read Your first article … and remember, there was a time when I knew less about how Wikipedia works than you know right now, and I am always available to help you become a more proactive contributor.

Happy Editing! — 151.200.237.53 (talk · contribs) 01:02, 22 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Mort Fertel

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Mort Fertel, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? 151.200.237.53 (talk) 19:24, 22 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
