Hi,

I saw your edits to the Stegosaurus page. Nice to have some more professionals editing here. What is your affiliation with the Morrison Museum? If you need any help in understanding or navigating Wikipedia policy and practices, feel free to ask me. I'm not an expert, but I'm friendly and helpful ;-) --Slashme (talk) 11:18, 8 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re your reply: Well, glad to have you on board. Although I do not in any way expect that your contributions to Wikipedia will be anything but uncontroversial and positive, the fact that you are editing articles which concern you personally means that you should probably familiarize yourselves with the Wikipedia policy on conflicts of interest and the policy on "ownership" of articles.
Anyway, you will probably meet nice, nasty and in-between folks here, so remember to keep perspective, and always remember that The Internet is not Serious Business to most of us!
Anyway, have a lot of fun, and feel free to message or email me any time. --Slashme (talk) 08:52, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Role account

[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. However, the username you have chosen seems to imply that you are editing on behalf of a group, company or website.

There are two issues with this:

  1. You may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, you must exercise great caution when editing on topics related to your organization.
  2. Your account cannot represent a group of people. You may wish to create a new account with a username that represents only you. Alternatively, you may consider changing your username to avoid giving the impression that your personal account is being used for promotional purposes.

Regardless of whether you change your name or create a new account, you are not exempted from the guideline to avoid editing where you have a conflict of interest. For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. This account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because your username, Morrison Museum, does not meet our username policy.

Your username is the only reason for this block. You are welcome to choose a new username (see below).

A username should not be promotional, related to a "real-world" group or organization, misleading, offensive, or disruptive. Also, usernames may not end in the word "bot" unless the account is an approved bot account.

You are encouraged to choose a new account name that meets our policy guidelines. Alternatively, if you have already made edits and you wish to keep your existing contributions under a new name, then you may request a change in username by:

  1. Adding {{unblock-un|your new username here}} on your user talk page. You should be able to do this even though you are blocked, as you can usually still edit your own talk page. If not, you may wish to contact the blocking administrator by clicking on "E-mail this user" on their talk page.
  2. At an administrator's discretion, you may be unblocked for 24 hours to file a request.
  3. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names. The account is created upon acceptance, thus do not try to create the new account before making the request for a name change. For more information, please see Wikipedia:Changing username.
If you feel that you were blocked in error, you may appeal this block by adding below this notice the text {{unblock|Your reason here}}, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first. -- Cirt (talk) 18:17, 26 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
