Busy
This user is busy in real life and may not respond swiftly to queries. |
Sorry for not announcing my short break. I'm easing back in now but will probably be scaling back my Wikipedia time quite a bit in the short term. —Moondyne 13:13, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
Nice work
Hey, nice work kicking The West Australian back into touch. Thewinchester (talk) 09:21, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
High?
Tom price (locality) in my ubd country road map is claimed to be the highest locality in wa at 747 metres - i need a reality check as the info box currently says half of that - maybe the ubd persons are using the actual mount tom price height and not the real town height - watch think? (and it looked like the miami servers were down 2 hours!) SatuSuro 13:35, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
- gah thats very helpful - i was all at sea as to whether any of the geosciences stuff actually help with altitudes and you give an answer like that...sigh :) SatuSuro 13:44, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
- Its getting weirder - three altitudes for tom price locality - btw do you think thats a valid geo-list - localities in wa by altitude :-) ??? SatuSuro 13:51, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
- Nah - sorting the rats from the quokkas - damned multiple variant heights from various sources is a headache... later...SatuSuro 14:02, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
tagging cricket articles
I have to make a little change to the bot before I can tag articles again. It shouldn't take very long, but I'm not sure when I'll get to it. Then, I have a couple of other projects that have been waiting. I will add Cricket to my to do list though, and let you know when it's done. Ingrid 15:35, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
Recent block
I saw that block on that IP address earlier (possibly Tony Senatore), was not sure if it was the user in question but thought seeing that there was a possible issue regarding copyright on The Angels article, thought I better highlight it for discussion. Have a look at the recent edits that IP address did to the Angels article and see what you think --Mikecraig 03:33, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
- He has popped up on the IP address page with a reply to your block. What is a bit silly with all this is that if he had a supposed issue with the article in regards to content and where it may have come from/copyright..etc, why not raise it earlier on and not now when he is being blocked both user and IP address. Anyway..--Mikecraig 05:53, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

Image tagging
Good question. Chances are it accidentally got hit with a big deletionist fly swat when I CSD'd a bucketload of bad fair use images which got loaded into school articles around the place, lifted straight from Henrietta. Thewinchester (talk) 11:02, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
Australian Music WikiProject
Thanks for the info regarding this, have not had much involvement with projects apart from adding and editing articles which are part of various projects. Also I see that Tony Senatore is back in action. --Mikecraig 06:03, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

It's OK. The fair use crackdown is hard, and I guess we all have to stay as calm as possible, or we'll end up losing good people in frustration. Cheers mate, Riana ⁂ 13:18, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

Non-free use disputed for Image:Richie Benaud's Greatest XI.jpg
This file may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading Image:Richie Benaud's Greatest XI.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read carefully the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content and then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 05:12, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

Assessing Australian Music WikiProject
Hi, about the wikiproject tag in the article talk pages, which articles are suitable for adding it? Does it include songs by Australian artists, TV/radio music programs (eg. Spicks and Specks, Australian Idol, It Takes Two)? What is the main guideline for using the project tag? I want to help out. RaNdOm26 11:49, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

Can you remember seeing a userbox for oz lit participants somewhere> Seems to have gone awol - would you be able to make one? SatuSuro 12:05, 7 June 2007 (UTC) Thanks for your work there as well - too many projects such a short life :) SatuSuro 14:56, 7 June 2007 (UTC) Nah - who cares - just another userbox in the wall (as in brick and...) Beware the list cullers
Your suggn to dan - thats what we went through with the ES troublemakers trying to get rid of lists some months back - we got rid of the list (dan took it to a sub page) when they said try a category instead. Poor dan will wonder what we are all up to. Unless its clearly very diff from what was deleted (it hads heaps of red links) SatuSuro 06:57, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
- gawd I think youd find it easier in his contribs hist - mines getting too big and it was... i cannot even remembe the name or the time .. typical me... you will have to make it as good as you have started with refs and links and fancy bells and whistles and commentary SatuSuro 07:13, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
- Ok I would suggest at least three other columns - something life refs/links, style/known haunts, and something else - and be v careful about putting heaps of intro text- would be prepared to help out - but very verystretched at moment SatuSuro 07:18, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
- Very strongly against such a list with red links - part of wot got the es frenzy up - clear not ambig links to groups/bands fine - red links squawks! (ie not) SatuSuro 07:51, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
- Am impressed with the list - will try and populate it the best I can - as I stated previously was using the list more as a reminder list of what bands still had yet to have articles (another thing on my 'to do list') - I like it - hopefully it won't be deleted this time Dan arndt 00:55, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks again for changing the list - happy to have it hosted on my talk page Dan arndt 04:23, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

Impartial input
Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard#Actions_of_Alansohn_in_relation_to_continued_WP:POINT_disruptions_on_Wikipedia_talk:Schoolcruft. I would appreciate it if some well considered input from an uninvolved party could be included here. The troll on question has pushed my patience to the point where I simply can no longer assume good faith towards him due to his continued disruption, point and pov pushing, and baseless attempts to claim that personal attacks and threats of violence have been made against him by his constant twisting of words. Thewinchester (talk) 22:17, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for the effort, and regrettably as I expected (despite hoping otherwise) it wasn't going to amount to much with the user in question. I've already written off the issue as a lost cause and the AN/I was the end of the matter AFAIK. As you would have seen he persists in pursuing his own viewpoint without rhyme or reason. Not a week can go by without getting stuck dealing with another user who love grandstanding and using the place for the purpose of a battleground, instead or just writing decent articles without editorial issues, or have I just become too simple in my own age? Orphaned non-free image (Image:Trinity college, perth logo.png)
Thanks for uploading Image:Trinity college, perth logo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. List of oz crim locations of the 19th c
I currently support Ben Cousins and his criminal activities. I blocked users writing on this on Ben Cousin's Website because I support drug use.
I am currently challenging the rather odd list apparently originally created by you some 2 years ago - with the increasingly dubious title List of australian penal colonies, dubious in that it now has red links and they seem to be places not colonies. The list as it is of locations and specific institutions - rather than colonies. As there is now also a category the issues is do we really need the list? - would not it be better served by convictivism article - or perhaps it needs moving to a more specific title of list of australian convict era penitentiaries - if it is to remain - please feel free to do likewise on any of my created items from 2 years ago - I am indeed sure I created more mindbending paradoxes than that one :| cheers SatuSuro 12:38, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
Youre being too generous - why not give it an intro and move it to a more appropriate title - and link it up? SatuSuro 13:08, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
Still reckon the specific locations/penitentaries are what is needed in the title of the list - and even another separate bit of info for the times that the colonies were specific penal colonies (dont know the dates myself) SatuSuro 13:46, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
I was suggesting both - with words in the titles that identify the colonial era/colonies/convict era specifically - ie before states and australia and all that SatuSuro 13:58, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

Neil Harvey pics
Hi Moondyne. Do you know where the pic of Neil Harvey's straight drive came from? Tintin is worried it might not have been taken on Australian soil. Also, I switched the portrait to a very youthful...which was very obviously from before he set foot on foreign soil in 1948...Blnguyen (bananabucket) 02:15, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
Link
Hi Moondyne, I found the link on wikiproject edit counters and its exactly the same as the query API, just a fancy interface on top. I figured many web browsers wouldn't have XML parsers and would die on the query API, so it would be better to link to a fancy interface than a raw output that not everyone could use. I love the GTools site anyway, lots of cool stuff to play around with. Somehow they haven't linked the edit counter from the front page... --121.45.214.135 13:08, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
- There must be other edit counters using the Query API, just this one seems to be the quickest, and it has the option of linking directly to a specific user's edit count. Interesting to see if it becomes popular, it might have to be moved to toolserver if it does. --121.45.220.17 04:07, 30 June 2007 (UTC)

Unspecified source for Image:Cricket bat pd.png
Thanks for uploading Image:Cricket bat pd.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

- mind you too many user talk pages - must remember to remove them the next project that i get rid of those horrible red discussion tags from (brrr) - oh and your australian cricket cats have been snatched for the oz project as well - you probably noticed :| - so many damned projects with about zilch tags for them - SatuSuro 03:30, 4 July 2007 (UTC)
DYK talk page notice
Howdy! in response to your note on my talk page, when I updated DYK I just went along with the credits on the update page itself. I apologise if there'd been a mistake in the crediting. I can give you the notice now, if you want :) GeeJo (t)⁄(c) • 23:04, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

A huge number of oz afl teams - regional etc - have sports=yes. and not afl=yes in their tags. Central West is the team - and the new south wales buggers insist on the rest of the name - the article is nsw - but it can read west oz - I tried a hyphen - but some helpful person pointed out the issue and i welcomed the revert and now you capture it for far western nsw! im off for a rest immediately SatuSuro 08:56, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
It is a very very good example of why literalist titles of some articles should never be used without the careful thinking through a sufficient title, disambig page or some form qualifier - I think the reverter actually should- in all politeness now put (NSW) after the title! As for the afl tag and the number of regional leagues who use afl as part of their names - bah humbug SatuSuro 09:06, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
when the robots float cross the watch page
I think my thinking aloud on longhairs talk page i might take the football leagues/things separation to the various project talk pages - i think my mistake could also be a timely point to clarify some issues - watcha think? SatuSuro 14:28, 5 July 2007 (UTC)

Is this one over-extending fair use of a club logo, I was looking the other Horrie Miller when I noticed a few links additional to those given in the rationale. I don't know how much latitude there is with this stuff. Sorry to dump it on you, my interest in sport does not extend beyond The Compleat Angler. - Ta, I'm off for a bit, I will chase it about later. Watch out for two pickled goons, they may create articles about aircraft beacons or vineyards.
- Have I asked for yr opinion on the viability of the 'batavia' yarn getting an article? Most of the details are in the (ship) article and that is strewn about the reef by the time the 'temporary micronation' was 'founded'. The rest of the gruesome tale is strewn about biographical articles; I was reminded when noting the early trnsltn of a Mr. Siebenhaar. The name is the tricky thing. ☻ Fred|☝ discussion|✍ contributions 13:11, 7 July 2007 (UTC)
- If I may interject, I think this is plenty notable enough to warrant an article.... I just hope we don't attract weirdos who want to make it out as fact. Hesperian 13:15, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

- Please do not inspect closely the current conversation (on wiki between) fred and self, it may be very dangerous for consumption without lengthy annotation and explanation.
- However - (1) two pickled goons - gnang and self with small bit of wine tasting within cooee of baskerville hall (not hounds) this am - re a friend who now lives in Hobart.
- (2) aircraft beacons - I remember the greenmount hill one - gnag has found a blackboy hill ref (we did get piccies this am) - i once laboured very long to find nothing at all australian archives about any of them
- (3) vineyards of wa - nah - not yet - far too much promotional material available - havent found good third party overview sources yet
- (4) batavia yarn - I'll have to check with my social secretary on that one - or perhaps google it - I am at a loss partly myself - however if fred and hesp agree its a goer...
- As warned - conversation between self and fred requires extensive explanation so if you dont cotton on - have no fear - its all greek to others as well SatuSuro 13:50, 7 July 2007 (UTC)
Dutch one. A clue, these are some more:
- With justified derision, but flagrant use of the term fact, Hesp is noting the 'first settlement' notion I was facetiously alluding to; the aforementioned 'micronation' or fatal impact, that some wag has deemed as the first euro-settlement in Australia.
- It did not last long, but attempted to implement policies regarding order, foundation and governance.
- The population went into sharp decline after this!
- The former and more broadly recognised authority, reluctantly returned and re-established the previous policies.
- The number of the group declined a bit more.
- Others were left on the ... in 'Australia'. The rest continued to their original destination.
- It is the subject of fictional, nonfictional and speculative works, particuarly by authors in WA
- You and I have met an esteemed author of a (the) key work on the topic - here, editing.
Anyway I have rough draft, but no name. If you were thinking indonesia, you are too far north. Regards, ☻ Fred|☝ discussion|✍ contributions 18:10, 7 July 2007 (UTC)
- In plain English, from rough memory: some time in the 1800s, someone wrote an entirely fictional work purporting to be the journal of an explorer in Western Australia. In addition to describing non-existent animals in great detail, this "explorer" claimed to have penetrated into our lush, fertile interior, and there discovered a vast Dutch civilisation in inland W.A. This was of course formed by survivors of the Batavia and perhaps other Dutch wrecks along our coast. At various times since then this work of fiction has been rediscovered and promoted as fact or at least worthy of further analysis. I believe Len Beadell is most recently guilty of this. A fairly large transcript of the original document can be found in Tim Flannery's The Explorers.
- This was my original understanding of Fred's comment, and what I was responding to in the above. It now seems to me that Fred is talking about a lot more than just the "Dutch settlement" tall story. He is talking about providing proper detailed coverage of the Batavia wreck incident - the mutiny and murders, the long trip in search of help, the eventual rescue and punishment of the mutineers, etc - important stuff that is either not covered in Wikipedia, or is inadequately covered across a number of biographical articles.
- Hesperian 06:16, 8 July 2007 (UTC)
- Correct
- Hesperian is the winner of the au.pop-quiz. Bonus points for the other batavie settlement. As a prize, I will start the article ... if someone can provide a name. ☻ Fred|☝ discussion|✍ contributions 08:23, 8 July 2007 (UTC)
In the shed collection (moon and hesp will know what I am referring to)i think there is also a very obscure novel about (i think it was novel) about a community created in the kimberley that never really existed. However i think it is/was totally different century from the one you allude to here. There is another again of the fictitious lost civilisations under the darling scarp that is linked to long dead theosophists and the late author glaskin - but that is another again - so from my particular perspective - at least three imagined communities that never existed within the bounds of wa - there should never be a claim for just one. cheers SatuSuro 05:50, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

Dowerin Field Day
I'm a little surprised you did that. I would have thought, as the biggest ag show after the Perth Royal Show, which isn't really an ag show anymore, that it was individually notable. Henrietta suggests that it won the Sir David Brand Tourism Award in 1995. She also tells me that it was the subject of a 100 page (I kid you not) supplement in Countryman back in 1988.
This is not a challenge or a request to reconsider. I am quite satisfied that you are more highly qualified to judge of agricultural matters than I am. Just felt like seeing if I could purchase a $2 explanation for 2c.

Climate Map
Hi Moondyne. The base map I scanned in from an old tourist base map of the state that I had. I then drew the outline for the climatic refions myself and coloured them manually, and added the key and the title in powerpoint. I drew the blue line marking the summer and winter rainfall regimes and coloured this too, before saving it from powerpoint as a jpeg file. Surely this classifies as a non-copyright map. John D. I was hoping the article could be left up for a couple of weeks so other users could contribute to it and hopefully help with making it more legitimate. is there any chance you can resubmit the article? --Sparkelman11 11:33, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
Notability
Thanks for your comments on QStik Records notifiaction for deletion page - it does seem that I am being put through the wringer by User:Orderinchaos on a number of articles - whilst I don't have a problem with having to justify an article's notability (keeps me on my toes) his constant questioning is starting to drive me 'nuts'. - Its hard not to have a sense of frustration at times - as I said I agree with the need to provide justification - its just when I provide what I feel is sufficient (certainly what has been sufficient in the past) to keep on being questioned when I am well aware of other articles without as much justification is frustrating Dan arndt 04:14, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:Charles Chewings.jpg. Its not enough to determine notability, you have to actually describe that in the article and conform to a reasonable level of content and referencing. —Moondyne 15:21, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
- It should be noted, i didnt actually create the article in mainspace, i went to paste it here, and it said..."article had been previously deleted" - just to clear that up. Twenty Years 14:42, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
- I am lost in the late night and the good cricket! this is a yes or no =P Twenty Years 16:40, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
- major iceberg has just been hit! "Rene Lucien le Miere" an article WP:WA said i could create, was deleted by "Rebecca" - (admin i believe), i dont want to do stuff wrong, hence i am asking for your thoughts on the situation. I have written the article is sandbox 5. Cheers. Twenty Years 14:41, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
- Ive added some notes below each article, treated it like an AfD somewhat, thoughts? Twenty Years 08:56, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
Kim Durack
Thats cool, but a way around this, is possibly this: If we create a page on the Durack family, couldnt info from the Kim Durack page be merged into that "Durack Family" article? There are countless Duracks (atleast 3 or 4 on ADB) and some ex-aquinians =P Thoughts? Twenty Years 16:24, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
- I must admit here, i have not a clue who makes up the Durack family, i am going to make a list in the bottom of Sandbox2 under Durack Family, and add the ones i know, if you can add any you know, thatd be much appreciated. Thanks alot. Twenty Years 16:31, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
- It best not be long. dont want it to be a case of TLDR :) Twenty Years 16:36, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
My compliments

Age calculation template
Might I ask why this template uses commas between the year and date? I realize that that was the old way, but let's face it...if some is 114.32 years old, that's one number, not 114 years, 32/100ths days old. I find the comma to be a bit old-fashioned. In this modern-media world, who reads that slow?Ryoung122 04:08, 29 July 2007 (UTC)
No that's no problem at all, i thought it was probably a bit arbitrary and pointless anyway and others had thought the same as well. Delete it unless someone can think of a better use of it Bizzmag 16:10, 29 July 2007 (UTC)
- Update - have tried editing to make it more appropriate. Bizzmag 20:47, 29 July 2007 (UTC)
One problem
With all the work thats gone into East Perth Cemeteries over the last few days, Karrakatta looks totally pathetic, once the rain breaks I'll go get picts of Karrakatta. Any I rated EPC as B think maybe it could go to WP:GA shortly as well. Gnangarra 01:21, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
