Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, MomHen. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places, or things you have written about in the article Freebo, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic, and it is important when editing Wikipedia articles that such connections be completely transparent. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, we ask that you please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your family, friends, school, company, club, or organization, as well as any competing companies' projects or products;
  • instead, you are encouraged to propose changes on the Talk pages of affected article(s) (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or to the website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Please take a few moments to read and review Wikipedia's policies regarding conflicts of interest, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. Thank you. Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 00:11, 2 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "MomHen", may not meet Wikipedia's username policy because it implies shared use according to your user page. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. As an alternative, you may ask for a change of username by completing this form, or you may simply create a new account for editing. Thank you. NOTNOTABLE (talk) 03:23, 3 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed that you blanked your user page. Please note that your userpage revisions are saved. However, one can change their username to not violate policy later on. Do not create a new account to do this without disclosing that you were previously "MomHen", as this may get you permanently blocked for sockpuppeting, as Wikipedia takes conflict of interest issues very seriously. Thank you. NOTNOTABLE (talk) 03:47, 3 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Please just delete my account. I've been trying to find where to do that and can't find it. I am only here to help out a client of mine and that's not working out either since it's a catch-22 (i.e. he doesn't want his birth name on his wikipedia page, all current source articles have his real name because those articles were written based on the wikipedia page, if his birth name is removed, further source articles will not include it ... and around and around it goes) ... I'm not trying to violate anything, just handle a client's request. No sources. Thank you. MomHen (talk) 03:51, 3 December 2016 (UTC) I created an account so I could edit Freebo's page. Then I was urged by wikipedia to fill out who I was so I did. And then I'm told that it's a conflict of interest. So I deleted that content. I am just trying to take care of one client. I mean no harm; there is no conflict of interest. Please be kind and let me know how to proceed. And if we can't proceed, then please do delete my account - it won't matter either way if his information cannot be corrected. Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames which give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only yourself as an individual and which complies with our username policy or request a change of username.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose.

If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page.

You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Thank you.
