A tag has been placed on Draft:Mohamed Al-Mashay, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Mohamedabaids. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Draft:Mohamed Al-Mashay, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Bbb23 (talk) 15:57, 28 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Before you make any more edits on Wikipedia, you must disclose your conflict per the instructions above. What is your affiliation with Mohamed Al-Mashay?--Bbb23 (talk) 16:08, 28 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Bbb23,
Thank you for your message. I appreciate the importance of Wikipedia's conflict of interest guidelines and would like to clarify that I have no direct affiliation with Mohamed Al-Mashay or any personal, financial, or professional connection to him. My main intent is to ensure that notable individuals in the current Libyan government are represented accurately and neutrally on Wikipedia for the benefit of its readers. I'm dedicated to improving the encyclopedia and will make sure to adhere to Wikipedia's content policies and guidelines. Mohamedabaids (talk) 16:11, 28 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
As I'm not an experienced Wikipedia writer, I would genuinely appreciate it if you could assist in writing or improving the article. If you or any other experienced editors could take over, I'd have no objections.
Thank you for your understanding and assistance.
Best regards, Mohamedabaids
Remember, offering collaboration and acknowledging one's limitations can foster goodwill and cooperative efforts among Wikipedia editors. Mohamedabaids (talk) 16:12, 28 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You uploaded a picture of Al-Mashay sitting in his office. You said you took the picture. If you don't even know him, how did you manage to take the picture?--Bbb23 (talk) 16:16, 28 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I work with the Libyan Observer, and in that capacity, I've had the opportunity to photograph important Libyan individuals, including Khalid Shakshak, Emad Trabelsi, and Ikram Abdussalam. My intent in contributing to Wikipedia is to provide representation for these individuals, among others, who currently lack it on the platform. Mohamedabaids (talk) 16:23, 28 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I am keen on ensuring that Wikipedia comprehensively and accurately represents contemporary Libyan figures. Given this, if there's a specific procedure or channel to suggest that Wikipedia create articles about notable individuals such as Khalid Shakshak, Emad Trabelsi, and Ikram Abdussalam, I would appreciate your guidance.
I strive to approach these contributions with complete neutrality. However, I recognize that my writing might not always convey this intent due to my inexperience as a writer. This is why I'm reaching out for assistance and clarity. Mohamedabaids (talk) 16:25, 28 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Your explanation is very credible, thanks. All you can do is what you're already doing, creating a draft, going through the WP:AFC process, which means getting feedback from experienced editors about the notabiity of your subject per Wikipedia's guidelines. Just remember that the language must be neutral and encyclopedic, not promotional. Your second draft was an improvement over your first in that regard. Good luck.--Bbb23 (talk) 16:37, 28 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Help request

[edit]

I need help fixing Mohamedabaids (talk) 00:23, 29 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there! I presume that you are asking for help with this draft. The reviewers have asked for more independent published sources that provide significant coverage of Al-Mashay. Please gather those from newspapers, magazines, books, journals, and other sources, which do not necessarily have to be online, and add them to your draft.
I also see you have your sources all listed in the References section. Instead, they should appear throughout the article as footnotes. Please see WP:EASYREFBEGIN for a nice video showing how to format the references properly. I'll make some minor tweaks to the draft for you. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 00:47, 29 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I see you also uploaded a photograph on Al-Mashay as your own work. This leads me to believe that you have a relationship with Al-Mashay that might be a conflict of interest. If so, you must disclose your conflict of interest on your user page. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 00:50, 29 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

(edit conflict)

I'm assuming you want help with your draft about Mohamed Al-Mashay.
It's plausible that Al-Mashay qualifies as a subject for a Wikipedia article, but your draft has some problems. For an article of this type, essentially every sentence must have an inline citation (footnote), pointing a published, reliable source that supports the sentence. It's better if these sources are independent of the subject or the organization he run or works for. To learn better how to make inline citations, you may want to look at Nick Moyes's guide here: WP:EASYREFBEGIN. Once you have your inline citations in order, it will be easier for a reviewer to assess the draft and determine if the threshold for notability has been met. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 00:54, 29 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I have made every effort to maintain a neutral tone, provide proper citations, and ensure the accuracy of the sources. Mohamedabaids (talk) 02:29, 29 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The feedback you received on the draft says "Many citation errors, and the Lybia Observer sources return 'page not found'." Seems like a good place to start. GoingBatty (talk) 02:47, 29 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You still have material without sources in your draft.
The sources you do have fail to show notability; there is coverage of his abduction and release, but that would be considered as one event and insufficient to establish notability. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 02:49, 29 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I have fixed the links
I didn't realize that they led to empty pages and I do apologize for that. Mohamedabaids (talk) 10:07, 29 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If you are communicating with a specific editor, you should not be making help requests, which draw the attention of other editors. If you want to notify jmcgnh that you have responded to their post, you may ping them by typing {{u|jmcgnh}}. 331dot (talk) 10:13, 29 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I apologize for any oversights. I welcome feedback from any editor who has the time to offer suggestions on areas I might have missed. Mohamedabaids (talk) 10:20, 29 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Your submission at Articles for creation: Mohamed Al-Mashay (October 26)

[edit]
Your recent article submission has been rejected. If you have further questions, you can ask at the Articles for creation help desk or use Wikipedia's real-time chat help. The reason left by S0091 was: This topic is not sufficiently notable for inclusion in Wikipedia.

To be clear: That message means you should abandon further efforts improving the draft. If you have questions about it, direct them to the reviewer.
It might be better to write a draft such as Draft:General Electricity Company of Libya, because most of your sources are about that company more than they are about the person who runs it. ~Anachronist (talk) 21:27, 26 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
