- Hey, thats brilliant work. this is just what i was hoping to see one day, to inspire others to create maps for their area of interest. keep up the good work mate. why dont you use the official NH marker symbol, you can take it from my highway map Image:India roadway map.svg -- PlaneMad|YakYak 11:14, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
- I just checked the map. It's good stuff! A suggestion, could you please upload maps to Commons instead? It is a media repository that all language wikis can share. Thanks, Ganeshk (talk) 18:11, 25 November 2007 (UTC)

Deepak Tripathi
[edit]Hi Mkeranat
I have been a librarian in a large British county library service for 25 years and know a thing or two about referencing. With respect, I am amazed at your 'unreferenced' tag. Deepak Tripathi was on air on the BBC in English, Urdu, Hindi from 1977 to 2000 virtually every day. He is a member of the British National Union of Journalists (Membership No 066645) and the article has a long list of (selected) publications. WordPress has checked and accepted his weblog, which has his academic papers/abstracts. A number of sources have been cited as to his background. Please go on the BBC website (http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/theeditors/2007/05/birthday_greetings.html) and check item 11, or use 'FIND' to go to the relevant section. I do not have Deepak Tripathi's permission to add that to 'External Links' and I think it would be overkill.
In light of the list of publications, on what grounds do you question the information that he is a journalist?
It is one thing being careful to improve Wikipedia output. But you may be verging on being destructive because of your over-enthusiam,which does Wikipedia no good.
Please get in touch if you have any further question.

Hello Mkeranat
Thanks for your message, which at least explains some of your points. You seem to accept the citation about his father. There are more about his grandfather (See the official site of the Indian Parliament, Constituent Assembly & Wikipedia); the BBC site with his message, affiliation (this site of his former employer is moderated. Try writing a message on it, especially claiming that 'A' was or is a BBC employee, you will see how it works.) and the University of North Carolina Techology Resource Archive. The list of his publications goes back to 1987. I am sure you will accept that such published material was NOT available on the Internet, but it is a matter of public record with the institutions for anyone to see and challange. The internet is a new beast. His published works are in the BRITISH LIBRARY, LIBRARY OF CONGRESS and numerous research and educational institutions which care to store them.
Now about VOA (1974-1977): How do you provide a 'verifiable' source on the Internet for something that goes back 30 years? Deepak Tripathi may have his appointment letter, but not on the Net. His VOA emplyment is no big deal. It can be removed, but right now it explains something about what happened in his life before and after. What else is there to be gained by adding it?
I think the recent trends on Wikipedia make it very difficult for it to be in-depth and take a long-term view. In the guise of 'accuracy', it is becoming parochial. What should be made of the blurb of a non-fiction book about the author? Should readers not believe it? Or if the book displays quality in other respects, then the blurb should be taken at face value, becuase, on the balance of probabilities, it would be difficult to 'conccoct' one. A reference arbitor needs to some time take an overall view based on the available evidence to make an informed decision about whether one or two elements could be taken at face value. There are no more 'verifiable sources' available for the moment. When his academic paper and book come out in the next few months, they will be added.
Over to you. I would appreciate if there is a dialogue between us instead of dictat. I have experienced nothing like this in creative efforts in my career.
I can understand your concern, but allow me to say this in return: I don't know who you are. After a look at your 'User Page', which is full of assertions and no 'references', the way it is coming out here is that you are going a bit over the top. And that is worrying. So let's be sensible, OK?
SurreyLibrarian (talk) 21:57, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
Hi Mkeranat. Aha, you are indeed right, it's been pinched from IMDb and passed off as being the uploader's own work uploaded under GFDL. Well spotted.
In this case, the criteria applicable is I9 - blatant copyright violation. I've deleted this one. Cheers! Neıl ☎ 14:36, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
Vandalism?
[edit]Hello. Thanks for your good work but please be careful when reverting edits, especially when using twinkle or rollback. This edit was discussed on the talk page of the article in question and certainly doesn't seem to be vandalism. Regards, Angus McLellan (Talk) 15:50, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
Copyright policy on maps
[edit]Hi and welcome to the Wikiproject maps. With respect to copying maps, there are no legal implications tracing maps from Google maps, MSN maps or a scanned survey map. Geographic and political boundaries constitute as "information", and information cannot be copyrighted. What is copyrighted are the font style, formatting, and presentation of the map. So feel free to trace any scaled map, and use your originality as formatting presentation. Good luck! Regards, =Nichalp «Talk»= 17:23, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

You've made some cool locator maps and deserve this! Glad to have you around here. Really appreciate your edits to the IIJ template too. Keep up the good work. Thank you, Ganeshk (talk) 04:06, 5 March 2008 (UTC) |
I have some comments. I think the transperancy is making your maps look grainy. The TN map looks smoother. Your maps have borders while Planemad's versions don't. Thoughts? Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 04:06, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, I was hoping we could follow one standard for all state locator maps, just to be consistent. I compared the two maps the again. The district borders (the white ones) are the ones showing up grainy when seen on a infobox. May be you ought to make them thinner like in Planemad's versions. Can you upload a version without the state borders for comparison? Thanks, Ganeshk (talk) 01:52, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi,
I would like to use your map in a scientific publication. How should I refer to the source of the map? It would be helpful if the source text can be short: such as "Source: Wikimedia Commons, licence: GPL" or something similar. There is no space for a long text.
Best regards,
