Adoption offer

[edit]

Hello, Asdadogs! I would be happy to adopt you or answer any questions you might have. I've been editing Wikipedia for approximately a year now. I work in recent changes patrol, the Percy Jackson Task Force, and WikiProject Warriors. I can tell you upfront that I do not have any experience with uploading files, and would only be able to direct you to the proper articles about that. You can leave your reply here and I'll see it. Welcome to Wikipedia! PrincessofLlyr royal court 17:47, 22 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That'd be great! I apologize for the delay in replying. --Asdadogs (talk) 05:44 24 April 2010 (UTC)
No problem! I'm not sure how much experience you have, or if you've read any of the policies, etc. so if I start telling you something you know, sorry. To begin with, what are you interested in editing and what would you like me to teach you? You're my first adoption, so I don't have a classroom or anything like that. You can just ask me questions, or I can give you assignments too. Do you have a preference? Just a quick tip, for formatting talk conversations we use colons (:) to indent replies. See this for more information. Do you have any questions? PrincessofLlyr royal court 12:30, 24 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Add - Another user has expressed concern about your username. Please read Wikipedia's policy on usernames. Usernames that appear to promote a certain company are frowned on. It is possible to have your name changed. Thanks! PrincessofLlyr royal court 18:50, 24 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That user would be me. Might not be a big deal, and it might be (probably is, in fact) a coincidence, but Asda is a company name as I am sure you are aware. Apparent promotion of companies is as frowned upon as deliberate promotion of them. I just found this also: Autism Service Dogs of America. Perhaps that's where you got the inspiration from? Either way, you might be best to consider filing a request at Wikipedia:Changing username/Simple. Cheers --Jubileeclipman 19:11, 24 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ironically the name came about through a jumbling of random letters, but I have submitted a request for a username change for this to change it to Mithril712. --Mithril712 23:32, 24 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
AHA! asda = the first three letters on the home row of a keyboard + a again! Get it now. Sorry for my lack of faith and I'll leave you and the Princess to work together in peace. Shalom --Jubileeclipman 23:08, 24 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I've kind of got the basics of editing down, citing sources and such. But I have trouble formatting things, like tables and such.--Mithril712 23:34, 24 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Great! Sorry about the username mix-up, the new one is very cool. Lord of the Rings fan? Anyway, about formatting. You can read through Help:Table and Help:A quick guide to templates (if that comes under "and such"). After that, I would suggest messing around in a sandbox to get the feel of it. You can create your own (under User:Mithril712/Sandbox or something similar) or play in mine. This helps for you to become familiar with a concept before using it in an article. Extra unrelated tip: Always try to use the "Show preview" button before saving an edit. It takes a little extra time, but keeps one from making two or three more edits to fix mistakes. I have no idea if you do this already, but it has helped me immensely. PrincessofLlyr royal court 23:39, 24 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello? I haven't seen you around in awhile. I'm going to be on and off in the next few weeks, but feel free to ask me any questions when you come back. PrincessofLlyr royal court 21:03, 10 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've been absent recently, as I shall be for the next two months due to AS exams. I will return to contributing after this some time in July.Mithril712 22:59, 14 May 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Asdadogs (talkcontribs) [reply]
Remember to sign in as Mithril712 rather than as Asdadogs from now on so you don't end up getting falsely accused of being a WP:SOCK...! Perhaps scramble your password for Asdadogs or something --Jubileeclipman 22:07, 14 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I had it automatically logged onto the old account using firefox. I've fixed it now, thanks for notifying me. Mithril712 22:59, 14 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
No problem! --Jubileeclipman 15:01, 15 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Have you considered joining WikiProject Earthquakes? It looks like something you might enjoy. PrincessofLlyr royal court 19:10, 16 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, I was considering asking about how I would go about joining such a group.Mithril712 00:19, 17 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Just add your name to the list of participants. That project has a slightly more complicated participant list than some, but I think you could figure it out. If not, just come back and ask. Then, help out with any open tasks the project might have. I also find it useful to watchlist the project's main page so I can keep up with any new developments. PrincessofLlyr royal court 01:59, 17 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
So sorry, Jubilee just pointed out that the WikiProject page doesn't have any section links. I didn't actually try myself, so I'm sorry if it confused you. The page to which you actually have to add your name is Wikipedia:WikiProject Earthquakes/Participants. That one you can edit. Again, I'm very sorry for the confusion. PrincessofLlyr royal court 01:46, 18 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I've signed up to help in anyway I can. Thanks, for the assist. Mithril712 19:32, 18 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Just dropped by to say that everything looks good! Your contributions are sound and you've backed things up with policy. I was particularly impressed to see you using WP:NPOV. If you have any questions, feel free to ask, but otherwise, continue as you've been doing and you'll be fine! PrincessofLlyr royal court 21:57, 2 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I think I'm getting the hang of this. Mithril712 00:56, 14 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
