March 2016[edit]

Hello, Misterblight, and welcome to editing Wikipedia. I hope you have a successful time here. However, I'm afraid there are a couple of potential problems with your first starts at editing.

Firstly, I think it only fair to warn you that Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of content on anything, no matter how obscure, and the content of the page Draft:Extreme Petanque shows no signs of coming near to satisfying Wikipedia's notability guidelines. If it doesn't, then it is very unlikely that the draft will be accepted as an article. I am telling you this because I think doing so may help you to avoid putting a lot of time and effort into something which will just be deleted. My advice to new editors is that it is best to start by making small improvements to existing articles, rather than creating new articles. That way any mistakes you make (which you will, because we all do) will be small ones, and you won't have the discouraging experience of repeatedly seeing hours of work deleted. Gradually, you will get to learn how Wikipedia works, and after a while you will know enough about what is acceptable to be able to write whole new articles without fear that they will be deleted. Over the years I have found that editors who start by making small changes to existing articles and work up from there have a far better chance of having a successful time here than those who jump right into creating new articles from the start..

Secondly, a user page is for telling us a little about yourself in relation to your work for Wikipedia, it is not a place to store content unrelated to work for the encyclopaedia. In addition, the content you have posted there is a duplicate of what you posted at Draft:Extreme Petanque, and it is both unnecessary and often unhelpful to have two copies of the same page. Consequently, I have deleted your user page. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 12:13, 12 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello James, thank you for the heads-up and your interesting tips. I had indeed some trouble finding the right way to create an article.

However, as many people mistake the 'Extreme Petanque' project as some kind of silly joke, I would like to emphasize that my article does/will contain the necessary elements to comply with the Wikipedia standards. We almost exclusively link to material which we don't own and we are in no way planning to stuff the article with backlinks to our content. Additionally, our project is no longer a pure online community, since we have founded of a non-profit organization that will promote extreme petanque as real sport/past time. If my article isn't allowed, then i suggest to delete the page about soccer, basketball and what have you.

I will continue my wikipedia endeavors and i will have this page published as i am convinced we don't violate any policy. The fact that you don't value my contribution proves that wikipedia needs an extreme petanque article to inform people in a correct and neutral way about this noble sport.

Wish you all the best and thanks again for reaching out!
