Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Mike Scheeringa. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Stress in early childhood, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Hello Megaman en m. I appreciate the seriousness of the conflict of interest policy, but I have a concern. You deleted my citation of my published review article. That article was one of only two existing literature reviews of prospective studies that examine this topic. My article was peer reviewed and published in a respected journal. There are few individuals who would have the expertise to speak critically about this topic and could cite my article. If I'm an expert on the topic, seems like I ought to be able to cite my own work that's relevant. I'm allowed to edit the Wikipedia article but I'm not allowed to cite the peer-reviewed literature that supports my edits? I believe I was quite modest in how I cited my article. If I don't cite it, who would? It seems like you may have taken the COI policy a bit too far.
