11nov2006 - I have been made aware of the 'external links - sites you own' policy and will obey.

5nov2006- I have been adding some external links to on-line map server sites of mine. I have added a link to the GeoHack template and a handful of others (Washington, Massachusetts, World Map, Denver, etc.) If anybody has any questions or complaints please let me know, as I am a new to editing on Wikipedia.

[edit]

You should read Wikipedia's External links policy, especially the part about adding links to sites you own, and maybe WP:Spam#How not to be a spammer. -- Mwanner | Talk 23:06, 11 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You wrote: "I would note that that the 'Maps and Aerial Photos' template included on 10s of thousands of Wikipedia locality pages automatically links to googlemaps, yahoomaps, terraserver, and topozone giving these large corporate providers a huge free benefit while locking out other providers as a matter of policy."
Understand, though, that Wikipedia is not about providing fairness to those trying to promote sites; it is about providing the best encyclopedic resources to its readers. If you can raise Middleforkmaps to the point that it provides better maps than the other servers, you will certainly earn a place within that template. At present, I don't think you're there.

Incidentally, let me append the standard welcome:

Thanks for the kind words! There are a lot of good people working here-- by comparison with some, I'm an ogre. Of course, there are also some one would not choose to emulate. Good luck with your work. Cheers! -- Mwanner | Talk 14:22, 22 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
