Dispute resolution noticeboard
[edit]I'm a very frequent volunteer at DRN. I see that you've listed yourself as a volunteer there, then removed it. Unless you've had extensive experience editing prior to this point in time, perhaps under an IP address or under some other username, DRN is a pretty difficult place to gain experience in dispute resolution. While you're welcome to put your name on the list, I would not recommend trying to actually intervene in or moderate a case until you have a great deal more experience and a fairly broad knowledge of Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. What you should do is to just edit for awhile — say about 1,200 to 1,500 edits — and, once you have a feel for that, try giving a few opinions over at the Third Opinion Project. After you've done that a dozen times or so and aren't getting much resistance from the parties in those disputes, then you can actively try taking a case or two at DRN. But even then, I'd recommend reading the DRN archives to see how cases are closed and handled. If you have any questions, please give me or whoever is currently serving as the DRN coordinator (currently it's Keithbob) a shout. We'd be happy to help, and I'll look forward to seeing you around. Best regards, TransporterMan (TALK) 18:41, 31 July 2014 (UTC) PS: I just saw your user page and see you're a third year law student. I've been practicing law for over 30 years. Your skills in reason and analysis will serve you well here, and you may be able to get a quicker start than I suggested above since you have the ability to read the rules and jump into applying them without having to learn them through trial and error. Good deal, but DRN is probably still a bit too rough a place to start. Give Third Opinion a shot, first. (It's where I got my feet wet and I now work in both places and am also a member of the Mediation Committee.) TM — 18:48, 31 July 2014 (UTC)
