I am interested in having an article written about my business, Savvy Rest. I have written an article, but out of respect for Wiki's guidelines which seem pretty complicated, I haven't posted it. (I put it below so you could see it.)
When I looked to see if I could request that someone else write about the business, I couldn't find a category that seemed to fit.
Can you suggest what I should do next? Thank you. Michael Penny Michaelpenny5675 (talk) 18:02, 20 September 2010 (UTC)
Savvy Rest Savvy Rest, Inc. is an organic mattress manufacturing company located in Charlottesville, VA. Their mattresses are made with natural latex, using either the Dunlop method or the Talalay method or both.
Their mattresses are placed on foundations, not box springs. Savvy Rest also produces other organic bedding products. It is privately owned.
During 2009 Savvy Rest sold approximately 2000 organic mattresses, including organic cribs, as well as organic bedding accessories such as organic toppers, organic mattress pads, and organic sheets.
History
Savvy Rest began in 2006 after its predecessor, North Star Beds, closed. North Star Beds operated from January, 2005 to early 2006.
Savvy Rest makes mattresses in all standard bed sizes as well as custom sizes for day beds, antique beds, RV’s, trucks, and yachts.
Beginning with just three employees in 2006, in early 2010 Savvy Rest had 15 full time employees.
Marketing
In 2006 Savvy Rest was the first company to post independent certifications of their materials quality on their website, along with extensive lab testing results.
Their website attempts to provide a comprehensive understanding of the materials and processes used in mattress manufacturing, particularly in regard to the use of synthetic materials vs. natural materials.
Savvy Rest distributes its products through about 60 independent stores around the country in most major metro areas. The list of stores is posted on their website.
Savvy Rest is a member of the Better Business Bureau, as well as the Sustainable Furnishings Council. In 2010 Savvy Rest was recognized by Inc Magazine as the 450th fastest growing company in America.

[edit]General requirements
[edit]Since you point out you wish to write an article, i think it is best if i (briefly) explain the rules related to article's detailing companies. In order to have an article any subject must adhere to 3 things(Well, actually there are many more but these 3 are the most important): The subject should be Notable, Verifiable and written in a neutral point of view. The following is a bit of a canned response i use to explain these cases, adapted to fit the article:
The first one, Neutral Point of View, rules that an article has to be witting from a neutral stance, as if someone is just plain describing the subject. When writing an article, don't just highlight the good things, and try to avoid any "Peacock" words and sentences. As mentioned before: Wikipedia is not a vessel of advertising, but an encyclopedia relaying objective information. Full details on this issue can be found at WP:NPOV.
The second one, Notability, rules that to be on Wikipedia, the articles subject needs to have some kind of importance which warrants an encyclopedia article. For example an article about Google is notable because Google is the worlds biggest search engine. An article of the butcher around the corner here is an example of an article of would not be notable. Notability can be established trough citing reliable secondary sources independent of the subject. Full guidelines on that can be found at WP:N, though you may also want to take a look at the Business FAQ. In essence this is the core for any subject to have an article at all.
And the last one, verifiability, rules that any claims made in the article must be sources with articles from external, independent third party sources. For example, company cannot cite its own documents to prove its notability. More or less speaks for itself. Full details can be found at WP:GNG.
Note that the article doesn't have to be perfect the first time around. Just keep in mind that it should contain a claim to notability, and that claim should be sourced (Alternatively adding two reliable sources is sufficient to meet both verifiability and notability). The neutral point of view is also something to consider. If it is an advertisement it will be removed on sigh - if it is spammy, it depends upon the administrator handling the case if it is cleaned or removed.
If this is your first time editing a Wiki you may wish to run trough the Tutorial first, as it provides some basic knowledge on how to edit a Wiki, with the syntax cheatsheet serving as a handy reminder on using wikisyntax. It may also be wise to model your article after an already existent article from the Good article category. These article's (for example Pearson's Candy Corp) meet the guidelines and policies related to content admirably and can therefor provide a great starting point for writing your own article, both in the terms of wording and used Wiki-syntax.
The article itself
[edit]In general i would advice looking at the good article list, and perhaps in particular to Pearson's Candy Company - one of the article's i often use as an example in these cases. I think you will notice a large difference with your article, both language and syntax wise. If i would comment on the article itself i would wonder why it is notable for encyclopedic inclusion. Its a 15 man corp, which is, by most standards, fairly limited. Equally i see no real indication of notability, and since the sources aren't links i cannot evaluate them to decide whether or not they are reliable.
In general the article isn't explicitly bad (As opposed to the spammy junk i often see), but i cannot say it is likely to be accepted either. With the sources and text given i presume it would - sooner or later - be deleted on the grounds of notability. Excirial (Contact me,Contribs) 18:38, 20 September 2010 (UTC)
how to request an article

I would think a Wiki article about Savvy Rest would be appropriate because, according to Google, there are about 95 searches per day on Savvy Rest. Wiki's objective view would be a helpful addition to the web.
Can you suggest what I should do next? Thank you. Michael Penny Michaelpenny5675 (talk) 14:49, 24 September 2010 (UTC)

- Thanks for respecting the policies and guidelines. Options include;
- Wait for someone else to write it. If it is notable enough, eventually someone will do so. This is the core advice, in WP:COI. You can also list it in Wikipedia:Requested articles, but as you can see, that is severely backlogged. Feel free to help out and write some of those though, if possible, according to guidelines!
- If you want, and if you are very careful about things, you could try to write an encyclopaedic article and put it through the article for creation process, where other editors would check it for suitability. If you decide to go down this route, please be aware that;
- It will need to have facts that are supported by independent reliable sources, such as newspapers and magazines. That is, all the facts should be verifiable. Example, made with natural latex [citation needed] sold approximately 2000 [citation needed] all standard bed sizes [citation needed] 15 full time employees [citation needed] and so on. If facts cannot be verified through a reliable source, they do not belong in Wikipedia.
- It would need to demonstrate significant coverage in such sources. See WP:VRS. That may not be possible, in which case we could not have an article.
- My own advice, if you decide to go down this route: edit other articles for a while; get the hang of things. Please read User:Keegan/Butterfly.
- Refer to WP:BESTCOI.
- After due consideration, to create an article through that process, use WP:WIZARD.
Once again, thanks for your considered approach. You might also want to talk to helpers live, with this. Best, Chzz ► 16:58, 24 September 2010 (UTC)
