I removed your use of the Death (band) template at the bottom of this article, because the article doesn't relate to them. You might have been looking for Spiritual Healing (album), which is linked to at the top of the faith healing page for disambiguation. -- BillWeiss | Talk 20:36, 5 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oh I'm sorry, I was mass-tagging and I didn't note it. Thanks for the reminder. Michaelas10 20:40, 5 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cradle template

[edit]

hey man, don't go too nuts with it - less is more, I think. Just the current line-up, the official albums, and the official DVDs would be plenty; no need for the demos or the "related articles" which is a bit amorphous and could go on for ever... Cardinal Wurzel 20:51, 5 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

As The Haunted Angel said, this template needs a lot of expansion, and every add is necessary:

  • Demos are a part of the discography and it's important to have them if we are making a discography section, they don't have much of discography anyway.
  • I don't think there are any more releated articles than these two, we can't add their genre or something like that, just things they own or really tied to.

I've also added their official DVD's to the template as you requested. Michaelas10 21:15, 5 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Related articles could include any band that shares a member (Angoria etc), has collaborated with them, record label, tour partner, literary or filmic influence... Bear in mind it won't just be us that's playing with this. Unless we impose quite strict limits on what's in it it's going to get completely unwieldy and out of hand extremely quickly. We'll end up with a template that's longer than the article... Cardinal Wurzel 21:26, 5 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
By saying "releated articles", I mean articles which this template can be added to, and very close to the subject. There are many templates that use it, such as Template:The Beatles, and don't add all the topics you provided. You didn't provide an explanation for removing the demos, as I said, they are a part of the discography.
I've reverted your changes, please do not remove this information without full discussion. We do not want a revert war. Michaelas10 21:35, 5 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Do mind if I go back to alternating images but reduce some of quotations? Alternating images are used on almost every great band page (i.e. The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Black Sabbath, Van Halen) and are one of my favourite stylistic choices. The quotes are cumbersome though I agree and I'll work on getting reducing several of them. Is that alright that I use alternating and reduce quotes? Thanks and I appreciate the peer reviewing. - Patman2648 19:18, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I just felt that the positioning of images cases a lot of space under them and therefore makes the article harder to read. As long as your reduce the quotes, it's ok. Michaelas10 19:25, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

For next time: noncontroversial moves (such as capitalization) should be listed in the "noncontroversial moves" section. —Mets501 (talk) 01:42, 9 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please ignore the above comment: I'm sorry. You used the noncontroversial template which made me think it was a noncontroversial prosal. {{subst:Wikipedia:RM}} should be used in the possibly controversial moves section. —Mets501 (talk) 01:45, 9 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Working Man's Barnstar and Barnstar of Diligence

[edit]

Hi! evrik suggested I contact you since you're a member of WikiProject Awards. After some discussion about changing the name of the "Working Man's Barnstar" to something gender inclusive, we realized that there is not much distinction between "Working Man's Barnstar" and the "Barnstar of Diligence". In order to avoid an overly-PC rename of "Working Man's", and given that there's not much difference between the two anyway, I thought it'd be best to conflate the two awards and have only "The Barnstar of Diligence." Your opinion on the matter would be much appreciated! The discussion can be found here. Cheers! -- Merope Talk 17:42, 10 October 2006 (UTC) [reply]

How?

[edit]

How did you manage to wikify thousands of users in the list of Wikipedians by number of edits? Did you use an automatic program of some kind? Michaelas10 (T|C) 17:11, 11 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I wikified them semiautomatically. I wrote the following crappy Perl program, which I hereby release under the GPL:
#!/usr/bin/perl
# userfy
while(<>)
{
  if (/\'\'.*\'\'/)
  {
    $_ =~ s/(\#?:?\d+\s+)(.*)(\s+\'\'.*\'\')/\1\[\[User:\2|\2\]\]\3/;
  }
  else
  {
    $_ =~ s/(\#?:?\d+\s+)(.*)/\1\[\[User:\2|\2\]\]/;
  }
  print $_;
}
Then I did a lot of copying and pasting. I previewed the changes about every 200 names or so to make sure I wasn't introducing any errors. Michael Slone (talk) 17:49, 11 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the code! Michaelas10 (T|C) 17:51, 11 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your message. However, the change was not vandalism - Amelia Jackson-Gray graduated ARTTS in 2002, a year after I did! I have changed it back, with a description of the change. Hope this is OK. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cncoote (talkcontribs)

Thank you, I understand. However, when you make any change to important information on an article, please provide a good edit summary to explain what you do and why you did it or write about it in the article's discussion page and don't forget to reference it. Please follow these instructions if you would not like any further misunderstandings. Michaelas10 (T|C) 16:52, 12 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No problem! I'm really happy to award people barnstars, especially ones that they are truely deserve. I agree about the IP thing, I myself set my "update" button in VandalProof to show only IP edits. Michaelas10 (T|C) 23:45, 12 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much for the barnstar, it really touched me :) It's nice to see some people acknowledging your work instead of the usual insulting message left by a random vandal (my first reaction when I saw I had a new message).

No, I don't think any examples should be added to Wikipedia. Unless the Wiki-search proves to be notable (in which case, should probably have its own section in the article), no need to add it as an example. Michaelas10 (T|C) 19:53, 31 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Attacks - ?

[edit]

You placed an attack warning template on my talk page, and I have no idea why. If it's in reference to my request to PJ Pete's continual requests of me to add/remove/change things that he could be doing, I don't find it valid. I would like, actually, to know how to block PJ Pete from posting to my Talk page for this very reason. He should be making any changes he wants, not asking others to do it. I have no interest in making any of the changes he wants to make, and I have asked him repeatedly (as have others) to please stop. Please let me know why this attack warning was placed on my page, and please let me know how to address this issue. PacificBoy 15:04, 3 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Although I do understand your concerns of PJ Pete's behavior, and I agree what he does is wrong, you may not post messeges with this tone over his talk page, this is not acceptable. Please refer to Wikipedia:Civility for more information. Michaelas10 (T|C) 15:12, 3 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I understand your removal of said comment. However, if I'm going to be taken to task for my responses, I feel that his behavior should be addressed with him, as well. Please review his talk page and his contributions. There seems to be a real disconnect in his understanding of how WP works, and I'm not the only one who is frustrated by his requests and inability to follow the rules. PacificBoy 15:31, 3 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I remmember reading a few days ago in the guidelines that removing owns comments of pages is not allowed and is not a civil thing to do as it might put others' comments in a different context. Michaelas10 (T|C) 12:36, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Here, please refer to the talk page guidelines for more information. Michaelas10 (T|C) 12:54, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm terribly sorry, those guidelines aren't actually listed at the five pillars, the 42 policies or the 16 rules pages. Which is why I've missed it. I honestly didn't have sinister intentions, would you prefer if I re-added the text and striked it. My RfA is somewhat of a hit-and-miss, my nominator had advised to try and communicate with oppose voters to calm situations, and then I started getting more opposes by replying, so I removed them and got more opposes. It's really very depressing about what RfA has turned. Thoughts welcome, Highway Ringo Starr! 13:11, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm really sorry about the misunderstanding, I've re-added all the removed material and I want to apologize. Thanks for showing me the policy, I really should be added to the headlining pages. Cheers, Highway Ringo Starr! 13:44, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Blanking

[edit]

I was under the impression that blanking discussions and warnings that are no longer current is now allowed. There's been some discussion about it. (I'm assuming the when you said "blanking is now allowed" you meant "not allowed"). And what's my talk page to you anyway? Cardinal Wurzel 20:41, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I meant it was not allowed, per users who reverted your removal of warnings, such as Yamla, and your blocking. Michaelas10 (Talk) 20:45, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Although, you may feel free to archive non-current warnings or move them to a different user subpage. Michaelas10 (Talk) 21:06, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Again: 1) what's my talk page to you? 2) consensus is that blanking of talk pages IS allowed for issues that are no longer current. I was reading that yesterday on Yamla's page. Are we going to have an edit war on my own talk page or are you going to back off? Cardinal Wurzel 21:08, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please note that the talk page doesn't belong to you, it belong to the Wikimedia Foundation and everyone retain the right to patrol it. All of these warnings are just over 2 weeks old, and that means the warnings are still current and the blanking/moving rules do not apply. Michaelas10 (Talk) 21:18, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Define "current". We're talking about warnings for pics that have already been deleted. And I'm still at a loss as to why you care about my talk page. Cardinal Wurzel 21:56, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I say wait about a month and a half from now before removal, this is the generally accepted time. I care about every violation. Michaelas10 (Talk) 09:29, 18 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There are several issues that the WikiProject needs to address.

  1. Do we need a coordinator (or more than one) to coordinate our efforts and act as an arbiter? Please place your thoughts here.
  2. Could someone work on archiving the talk page Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject Awards?
  3. Do we need to develop better guidelines for the Wikipedia:WikiProject awards?
  4. Finally, could you please weigh in on the following discussions so we can move them to conclusion:
    1. LGBT Barnstar

Hey buddy

[edit]

Thanks for reverting vandalism to my user page last night. I appreciate it. =) —Lantoka ( talk | contrib) 10:42, 18 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

[edit]

I wanted to thank you for the vandal patrolling and vandalism reverts on Tourette syndrome: it gets slammed often, and I appreciate the efforts of all who help out there. I also hope you won't be discouraged from participating at WP:FAR because of some reactions to your FAR of James Joyce; you are correct that inline citations are required on all FAs, but some editors aren't happy about that change. We can use more reviewers on WP:FAR, so I hope you'll dig in and help out (the articles at the bottom of the list need more attention). Sandy (Talk) 15:19, 18 November 2006 (UTC) [reply]

Footnotes section

[edit]

I see that in Belgrade you moved Footnotes section above External links. Is there any guideline which says that it is the preferred order, or else why did you do it? Nikola 17:02, 23 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ehhm, although I did not find a proper rule over this in the Manual of Style, this is a widely accepted regulation, as seen from many recent FAC reviews and most FA articles. Michaelas10 (Talk) 17:13, 23 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks!

Thank you Michael, I wish you a happy thanksgiving also. Good job reverting vandalism. I have noticed you at the AiV lately. Keep it up.__Seadog 20:49, 23 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

AfD debates

[edit]

Hi, I noticed you adding symbols to your statements on AfD debates. There was a very brief fad for this a while back but it was rapidly decided to be a bad idea because it encourages the idea that AfD is a vote, which it definitely is not. Guy (Help!) 15:15, 24 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

All symbols removed, thank you for letting me know that. Michaelas10 (Talk) 15:20, 24 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

References?

[edit]

I would like to ask you - where did you find the references for the release dates for the DVDs on Buffy the Vampire Slayer DVDs? I've been looking for a long time and I didn't find anything. Michaelas10 (T|C) 08:34, 28 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Buffy release dates were filled in on the Buffy article a long time ago. However I found out the Angel release dates, it's quite confusing because the sets are repackaged with new release dates, I originally used old reviews for the DVDs for when they first came out (I saved the links in a file but have lost that file now). But the USA/UK dates (for both Buffy and Angel) can be found at these links:

Thank you for your answer. What are the sources for region 4 (Australia) release dates? Michaelas10 (T|C) 13:07, 28 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I just searched the history: The info was given by by User:Imjusthappy on 20th March 2006. The change can be seen in this edit and the several edits by the same user immiediately following. User:Imjusthappy may be someone who knows some references, alternatively Australian Google gives the option to just search Australian pages, I had a quick look and couldn't spot the original Australian Buffy dates, but an Australian Buffy fan would have a better knowledge of where to look on Australian web sites. -- Paxomen 13:54, 28 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I asked User:Imjusthappy, and they just replied:
Re: Australian Buffy dvd dates.
I didn't get them from a website. But from my my old Buffy videos, that had trailers at the start of each tape saying when they would be released. But for season 6/7 I just remembered the dates, since I listed them on my calendar. -- Unsigned (but from User:Imjusthappy)

Hi Michaelas -- you were kind enough to take the time to respond to the Featured List nomination for List of fictional books. Pet template?

[edit]

Hi there. I noticed your request for a "common pets" box, and I'm willing to take on the job of creating it. To do that, I need to know more about what kind of a template you were thinking of. Are you thinking about a nav box like {{Old Kingdom}} with animal types instead of article classifications? Please enlighten me: then I can create a nice template that can go on that article and related ones. :) Thanks, Nihiltres 20:02, 18 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry but I already I finished about a half of it. I just needed more votes on the proposal before creating it on the template namespace. It is going to look somewhat like this:

Michaelas10 (Talk) 20:19, 18 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Template finished. Might still use some attention from an expert on the subject. Michaelas10 (Talk) 21:13, 18 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It looked pretty good to me, so I moved it into mainspace. Hope I didn't step on your toes. If you want to work on it more you still can, you just have a bigger audience. --Dgies 07:48, 30 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Question

[edit]

Hiya, you left a message on my talkpage, but I'm not sure what it's about? [1] Did you perhaps mean to leave it on someone else's page? --Elonka 19:06, 1 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I was referring to Essjay in my comment, saying it is against Wikipedia's policies to edit other peoples' comments, which also includes correcting spelling mistakes. Michaelas10 (Talk) 19:09, 1 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, keep in mind that there's a difference between editing people's comments, and editing a guideline page. If I see a spelling error in someone's personal comment on a Talk/Discussion page, then I shouldn't change it. But if it's on a policy/guideline page, it's fair game for fixing. --Elonka 19:37, 2 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Oh I see, I thought he meant discussion pages by saying "copyediting of my spelling errors". Thank you for pointing it out. Michaelas10 (Talk) 19:56, 2 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

FAC for Bacteria

[edit]

An editor has made some major changes to this article, could you please return to the FAC and provide some feedback on whether or not these are an improvement? TimVickers 21:24, 2 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't like the section splitting and some of the formatting done was against the Manual of Style, so I'd prefer version 1. However, I believe its already too late to voice an opinion over this as the article was already featured. Michaelas10 (Talk) 15:54, 3 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Megadeth FAC - song samples

[edit]

Hi, thanks for voting on the Megadeth FAC page. I included so many samples from following the style of other music featured articles, such as The KLF, Pink Floyd, or Rush (band). I think that a band like Megadeth (or Slayer for that matter), with so many albums, and such a drastic change in sound over the years, deserve proper representation of each "era". Hell, if the KLF can have so many, why not MEGADETH!! Maybe having every single released sampled is a little too much, but I thought any charting "hit" single should be represented, as well as any songs that were nominated for a Grammy. Skeletor2112 06:28, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, well you seem to put music samples for every single of the band, even the non-notable ones. Although there is no limit on the number of fair use music sample you can add in an article, you should try to avoid using fair use media in the article as much as possible. This makes the article difficult to read as well. Michaelas10 (Talk) 17:53, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I hear you, I will go through and remove some of the less-notable songs, as well as ones with multiple samples per album. But like I said, I do feel Grammy nominated stuff, and charting "hit" singles, at the very least, should be included. Thanks again, Skeletor2112 07:27, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Done, I removed all of the doubled-up samples, and left only Grammy songs and hits, like "Symphony of Destruction" and "Trust", ect. Skeletor2112 07:40, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you!

Thanks for the advice. I changed all the sources, didnt realize there was the citeweb and i did it the hard way :(. Also it appears the images dont have 'fair use rationale' i added some stuff to them but i'm not sure if it's whats required? Perhaps you could check if you have a few spare minutes [2][3] Also if there's anymore CC it would be appreciated, and thanks for the welcome! :) M3tal H3ad 03:13, 1 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Good enough. But.. there seems to be no source mentioned on the logo image. Michaelas10 (Talk) 09:42, 1 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, wasn't expecting that much help. Thanks a lot greatly appreciate it! M3tal H3ad 14:20, 1 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thankyou for your input, once again its greatly appreciated. About the sources, I'm having trouble finding some so i will probably remove the text (mainly about SS-3). Also i was thinking of adding a picture of Josef Mengele (Angel of death)at the start of controversy to give the article balance, in that it will look good with a picture on the right and left in that area?. Seeing as you seem very experienced would it look good?. Thanks again M3tal H3ad 12:12, 2 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, i was wondering if you thought Slayer is worthy of GA status now. As you can see it underwent a huge make-over since last nomination. The GA process can take sometime so tweaks here and there can always be done. I would also like to thank you for all the help and especially getting me to start work on it by just leaving me a message :). The only problem i can see with it is the sentence about the bans, delays etc in the lead using 'resulting', but i didn't know how else to word it. Thankyou for your time :) M3tal H3ad 09:47, 11 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Please ignore my comment, article is undergoing a huge expansion and alot of work will be done, sorry to bother you. M3tal H3ad 11:37, 12 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello

[edit]

Thanks for the contribution to the 2006 Wikipedia CD Selection afd discussion and also for putting the article up for afd in the first place. As I said, I think the question needed discussion. If you think that notability is the right question by the way you might look at putting an AfD on some of Encyclopodia, Pywikipedia, Wapedia, Lexipedia all of which in my view are closer to the wire than 2006 Wikipedia CD Selection, and have lower notability? Keep up the good work --BozMo talk 11:36, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No, I believe these programs are widely used and might have some notability. Wikipedia currently has articles about Google-compatibility programs, including those in beta stage, such as Google Voice Search. Michaelas10 (Talk) 13:04, 14 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. Pywikipedia just lost a rapid AfD which I started after the above anyway. You obviously have a different take on WP:ASR to me but that's not important. I might try one of the others. --BozMo talk 15:56, 14 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Reversion of Leprosy

[edit]

Hello! It appears that there was a misunderstanding about the reasons for my recent edits on Leprosy. If you read the section of Talk:Leprosy that you wrote your comment in, you will see that the reason for the large-scale reversion was not the image or history section, but the pervasive unsupported and most likely bogus scientific information that claimed the disease was caused by an "ultravirus" and that MDT was not an effective treatment, in contradiction with every reliable external source I have found. --Constantine Evans 22:51, 14 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If you see false facts, you can always remove them, or contact who added them. I don't think you should've reverted over 100 revisions which include my hard work and reorganizing of the article. Michaelas10 (Talk) 08:13, 15 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
