Frontiers article

[edit]

Hi. Once you're able to upload that article somewhere on the web, let us know in the thread at the talk:Donna Summer page so we can incorporate relevant quotes and information into the bio. Because of the sensitive nature of the issue, please make sure that the title of the article is visible in your upload, and let us know the date and volume of the issue in which the article appears, the page number(s) of the article, and the author's name. (You already gave some of this in your earlier submission.)

Any other mentions you might be able to track down which repeat or expound on the rumor, such as the previously alleged Michael Musto Village Voice piece (and his rumored disclaimer if any), as well as the New York magazine piece, anything by Liz Smith, etc., would be helpful. Equally important is the initial 1984 denial by Summer, to which she referred in her 1991 lawsuit, as well as any other statements Summer made between those dates. (Subsequent statements from Summer are easier to track down on the web.)

Equally useful could be any mentions in periodicals by gay activists or less-significant individuals, such as the reaction of DJs, of the owners, managers and bookers of clubs and bars, of gossip columnists, even a cartoon or a review of the routine of a comedian or a drag queen or something in which the subject comes up, however brief or off-color. The point of this type of thing isn't to corroborate the initial rumor but to see if it can provide insight into its dissemination and the reaction to it by the LGBT community—or for that matter, the public at large. And again, as much information about the publication as possible, as stated in the first paragraph. Of course the onus isn't all on you, but as you recalled the one back-issue, I thought it's possible you might have, know someone who has, or have access to track down, others. Thanks.
