The best way to learn about something is to experience it. Explore, learn, contribute, and don't forget to have some fun!
To get some practice editing you can use a sandbox. You can create your own private sandbox for use any time. Perfect for working on bigger projects. Then for easy access in the future, you can put {{My sandbox}} on your userpage.

Mewest, Congrats on making your first edits in Wikipedia. You have formatting down and I liked your bulleted list. You're almost done! One of the strengths of Wikipedia is making links between articles and across the site. You can make a link by placing double brackets before and after an article term, like the "University of Southern Indiana" or "Poetry." I did that on your user page. Can you make a few more? References, Inline citation

The reflinks tool has been used but references are not placed within the text, which is called "inline citation." In order to do this, you need to copy and past each reference (the open and close ref tags and all in between) into the text where they belong. It's much easier to do this while you're writing than to do it later. Now you have to be very careful to make sure you don't miss the citation points. After you use the full reference once, you can use just the open tag (as long as it has name="something") but put a backslash "/" right before the last bracket ">". The template:reflist actually puts all references in order and shows how many times the reference was used. Crtew (talk) 16:15, 24 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Mewest, I added two more references. One is from PRI about Shaam, and the other is from SINA about one of the massacres they covered. You can include the massacres as examples of notable coverage. You can also add a section on Shaam journalists who have been killed while reporting, including Ahmed Adnan al-Ashlaq, Ammar Mohamed Suhail Zado, Lawrence Fahmy al-Naimi (all killed 27 May 2012 in Damascus) and Abdel Karim al-Oqda (killed 19 September 2012 in Hama). Work on notability: Why is Shaam News Network important and can you back that up with a reference? Also work on language so that it is less essay-like and more encyclopedia sounding. There are no footnotes right now. You have references in the article, but you need to use inline citation. Your article would be considered underlinked because it should contain more links to other Wikipedia articles. The style is that the first use of the linked term is linked and the rest remain unlinked. The places you mention in the article will be pinned on the map!
