Bhinneka Tunggal Ika

[edit]

Someone is questioning the origins of Bhinneka Tunggal Ika on Talk:Indonesia. Is this something you could provide some insight into? Caniago 11:26, 27 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Meursault :-) Caniago 10:02, 28 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I wish more sources could've been found but, oh well. I was just trying to prove what almost every Javanese person I asked said - that it's Sanskrit. Given what is available, I have no choice but to assume they are either right or wrong, and I have no way to prove if they are right. I'm not really into Old Javanese - I can barely speak any modern Javanese! :) I was approaching it from the above perspective. I'll leave it to you to delve through those materials. I'm trying to find my niche on Wikipedia so I can make contributions that are NOT my original research. :( I didn't know Dr. Robson or Dr. van der Molen until this month! :) I apologize if my commentary was intrusive or annoying. ReveurGAM (talk) 06:11, 19 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm still a novice, so I don't know about pinging. I don't usually have much time to do things here. Thank you for the info you added on my talk page - can you mention it in the discussion, too? If you do happen to find more sources that support that it is OJ and not S, that would probably be a good thing to add to the motto's page so future debates can be averted. ;) Best of luck with your PhD!ReveurGAM (talk) 10:22, 31 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings from Poland! ;)

[edit]

Thanks for your work with all that articles about Poland! ;) I know reason why you did all of it, so I must say - in Poland we also thinks that Indonesia is anti-Poland. ;) For example - look here. ;) Greetings! Petr-pl (talk) 23:10, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Taal van het Adiparwa.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Taal van het Adiparwa.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 06:26, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Misha-memoir-cover.jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading Image:Misha-memoir-cover.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 14:48, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. As per your request, I reverted the edit that had skewed the text on this template. It was just too annoying. Regards Davidelit (talk) 09:39, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Meursault, I happened upon an old dictionary of Gayo that is now available online and tried to extract some useful info from it also for wiktionary. See wikt:subah and nl:wikt:subah (and some other entries). I have 'decolonized' the oe to u but I have no idea if the rest of the orthography is still acceptable today. I would appreciate a critical glance of someone who might know better.

I am much more concerned about this message above - it reflects a very poor understnding of the complex issues that we have constantly in the WP English WikiProject Indonesia project with non english speakers trying to contribute when they should not- if we used plain english they would not comprehend what is going on - a rather in the event a useless and best ignored guideline imho - in the face of over four years of dealing with limited english hopefuls SatuSuro 21:54, 19 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There are a lot of useful maps in there that can be uploaded to the Commons even if we can't use them immediately. Fair use rationale for File:Cover Damar Jati (November 2006).jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Cover Damar Jati (November 2006).jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 17:34, 8 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

While contributions are welcome, an article may be deleted if it is inconsistent with Wikipedia policies and guidelines for inclusion, explained in the deletion policy.

Kenapa saya diblokir lagi di WBI. Lha, saya tak melakukan intimidasi kok. Saya hanya suruh mempertimbangkan lagi keputusan mereka.

The article Javanese Wikipedia has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable website, per WP:NOTABLE, composed of first-hand sources.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. —Justin (koavf)TCM 22:50, 26 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The file File:Birthday-cake-Jenmoa.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unused personal photo.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Hey Kelly, just delete this file. I used it to wish Jenmoa a happy birthday. As a matter of fact, I totally forgot I ever uploaded this picture. He/she is not even active anymore on Wikipedia. Cheers Meursault2004 (talk) 23:10, 10 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The article Austronesia has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

As far as scholarship goes and even google there is no place called austronesia. The article has been searching for references for some time and I believe none can be forthcoming.

Hello Andrewgprout thanks for your message. There is indeed no country or place called Austronesia, however this name is used in scholarly publications to refer to countries where Austronesian languages are spoken. I can provide you for a start a list of these publications. Meursault2004 (talk) 08:47, 1 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I can also vouch for the fact that anthropologists and linguists in Indonesia and Australia have focused on the 'austronesian field' of study for some time see - http://trove.nla.gov.au/result?q=austronesia JarrahTree 08:57, 1 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I fail to see why and how scripts that....

[edit]

It feels like a trapped in time issue - why the heck, do we have anything in the lead sentences that the majority of readers wil not have the capacity to understand?

I really like the idea of a list item - of names of things and places in as many scripts as anyone wants to throw in. One spot, not controversial. JarrahTree 12:54, 21 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi JarrahTree thanks, I think those edits were made by someone who just learnt the script and was eager to share his newly acquired knowledge. I like your idea. BTW a while ago I also discussed this matter with a FB friend, as he also failed to see the added value of this writing in Javanese script. Plus it can als be regarded as original research. Meursault2004 (talk) 12:59, 21 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
BUT - like all good things relative to Indonesian and javanese culture - there is the inherent paradox and contradiction that I had throughout all my fieldwork - there is very good value in having somewhere that shows what it looks like in the script.

My 2009 visit to the main palace in Istanbul, on the european side, I was struck by the large number of items with arabic script - which could have done with a pamphlet with transliteration and translation for the non arabic speaker that would have made the experience far more interesting..

When surakarta had the experiment in javanese script and roman script (?) on street signs - it was intriguing. Likewise in the mid 1990s the inscription in Imogiri townsite west of the royal graveyard had signage from the era of PBX (and his good works) - the lack of a trilingual pamphlet - was something that didnt come to me long after fieldwork.

My way of saying a three or four column list of names of people and places relevant - english (this is english wiki) - and related language renditions - I think would be of genuine encyclopediac value. JarrahTree 13:06, 21 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your comment JarrahTree, are you saying that we should and could move all those Javanese renderings of names into a list? But they would still be considered as original research (OR) if these are not backed by notable sources.
I agree with you and I can sympathise with you regarding Istanbul. I believe most modern Turks can't read Arabic anymore, especially in Istanbul. As for the street signs in Solo and Yogyakarta, these signs fit in a certain context.
Let me think about that list. Meursault2004 (talk) 22:39, 21 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Belgium–Germany relations, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Leopold I (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

This type of edit does get picked up by Copy Patrol and a good edit summary helps to make sure we don't accidentally revert it. For future use, would you note the best practices wording as outlined at Wikipedia:Copying_within_Wikipedia? Bierkade (The Hague) moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Bierkade (The Hague), does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Your draft article, Draft:Bierkade (The Hague)

[edit]

Hello, Meursault2004. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Bierkade".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thank you for your submission to Wikipedia! —Nnadigoodluck🇳🇬 03:54, 3 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Nnadigoodluck thanks for your message. I was translating that article from the Dutch language Wikipedia. However I wasn't able to find additional sources. The source article only says: "Geschiedenis en verklaring van de straatnamen in 's-Gravenhage, door gemeentearchief, uitgeverij Kruseman". I don't know whether this is enough. Perhaps you could enlighten me. Meursault2004 (talk) 08:28, 3 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Meursault2004, I don't understand Dutch, but if the article is important to you, you're welcome to ask for WP:REFUND. Best, —Nnadigoodluck🇳🇬 11:16, 3 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
