Speedy deletion nomination of Caroline Mason (finance)
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Caroline Mason (finance), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Hallo Meriel, I became interested in the college after seeing a mention of it in the ODNB article on Hannah Cohen (philanthropist), an article I created for WiR Philanthropists. I've found a few useful refs and now see that you've started a draft. Would you mind if I moved your draft to main space and expanded it? You'd still be there in the page history as the creating editor, of course.
I found a scholarly article about the college (Opitz, Donald L. “‘A Triumph of Brains over Brute’: Women and Science at the Horticultural College, Swanley, 1890–1910.” Isis, vol. 104, no. 1, 2013, pp. 30–62. JSTOR, www.jstor.org/stable/10.1086/669882 ), and also https://www.hadlow.ac.uk/about-us/history-of-the-college and https://www.hextable-heritage.co.uk/Remarkable%20women.pdf , which seem quite enough for a good start to the article - and it's already linked from 6 articles. I'm trying to have a partial wikibreak, but need to drop back in again for the satisfying activity of editing Wikipedia as compared to the stresses of real life, pandemic, Christmas, etc. PamD 19:11, 9 December 2020 (UTC)
- PamD PamD Dear Pam, I would be totally delighted if you did that. I've got distracted by other things, and also have not stumbled across a suitable source of information. The draft looks at me reproachfully occasionally. You have the information and enthusiasm (and also know about moving drafts to main space). Please go ahead with my gratitude and thanks.--MerielGJones (talk) 20:28, 9 December 2020 (UTC)
- PamD PamD I've added wikilinks to the article. It definitely won't be an orphan; there are masses of mentions of the college because of people who studied or worked there.--MerielGJones (talk) 23:17, 9 December 2020 (UTC)
- @MerielGJones: I think I've done enough on it for now (and spent some time on Wye College#Agricola Club too after finding a reference to a college history in its journal... such is the time sink of Wikipedia, and I ought to be sorting through boxes of junk while trying to combine two houses' contents into one, but allowed myself the self-indulgence of a few hours of Wikipedia after getting painful fingers defrosting the freezer at its most ridiculously full time of year... With a brief break to concoct a Christmas wreath for the front door to enter the village horticultural society's "send-us-a-photo-of-your-wreath covid-safe competition! Oh the joys of rural retired life in lockdown). PamD 15:50, 20 December 2020 (UTC)
- @PamD: Thank you! It's now a really interesting article. The idea of saying it was OK to start a college on someone else's land!! Also, thanks for explaining how two organisations say they developed from it - I could not understand that before. I hope your Christmas wreath gives you and others pleasure. I've seen many on doors this year and they are mostly different and all attractive.MerielGJones (talk) 22:51, 20 December 2020 (UTC)

Josh 'Ron' Kirby
Dear MerielGJones. Could you help please. My most recent book was published in November. It is referenced no 23 on my Wiki entry, and mentioned in the last paragraph. It contains a chapter on Josh Kirby and several illustrations of his work. He is quoted and mentioned throughout the book, and he was a significant artist. I cannot add a reference to my book as the Wiki Police will cite self promotion or COI. I wonder if you could take the time to add this reference to your original article? Opera singers
Thank you for the opera singer! I happen to have one on the Main page right now, Margarita Gritskova, and perhaps look at it for some general ideas, - a wikilink to the voice type perhaps, and adding composers to opera titles. Nice to meet you! -- Gerda Arendt(talk) 21:56, 17 August 2021 (UTC)
- @Gerda Arendt: Glad you approve. I was surprised at the number of pages her name appeared on, as I added wikilinks. And thanks for the suggestions. Great ideas.--MerielGJones (talk) 22:09, 17 August 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you! - Can we work on your article step by step? I formatted how we usually present an opera for Boris Godunov, - can you do the others the same, please?
- no link to the composer when piece has an article
- just composer's last name when famous
- no explanation of what it is, because that's boring for those who know, and the others can follow the link
- no Easter egg linking, so the opera only to the opera, not including description (but well, no description anyway)
- enough? more to come, headers: no short paragraphs, too many quotations, Career should have history, not voice description. - If the article gets long enough in 7 days from creation, and follows editing standards, she can be highlighted on the Main page. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:19, 18 August 2021 (UTC)
- @Gerda Arendt: OK. I have to do other stuff now, but will do more later today. But moderate size paragraphs, please - I can add more of the various roles taken in each category to most of the existing starter paragraphs? I find solid text difficult to read. Surely some mention of why her voice (and stage presence) is so appreciation is appropriate since her career is built on it, and you mentioned earlier about including her voice type? --MerielGJones (talk) 09:19, 18 August 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you, and take your time. Do the one step first, and then we'll talk in detail about the later ones. Voice description is wonderful, but please not at the beginning of career, - extra section, or within the reviewers' comments, or in the lead (introduction, with a source). You'll have to see how to compromise your wish for clarity with Wikipedia's standard that one-sentence paragraphs are to be avoided. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:25, 18 August 2021 (UTC)
- @Gerda Arendt: So I've made some changes and additions following your suggestions. I think it is getting to look rather like a list rather than an interesting read. I've looked at pages about some other living opera singers. Some have much more interesting information evaluating performances, some have lists of productions the singer was in, lists of recordings ... I've looked for a picture of her on Wikimedia Commons, but no. Please can you advise on what would be a good inclusion, anything to take out ... MerielGJones (talk) 20:24, 19 August 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you, and I'll look when I have time, busy weekend ahead, + I nominated someone for RD (Recent death) whose article is not ready, + for another I got a new ref that should be used. You decide what to include, - I only talked about standards in formatting, sequence and length of paragraphs. My model is Jessye Norman. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:30, 19 August 2021 (UTC)

Hello, heard my name mentioned (er... linked to!). I'm afraid my magical qualities aren't tremendously reliable; I do manage to find a fair number of free images in general, but for images of specific people, my success rate is only 10-20%. I'm guessing this is about Susan Bickley? I did some searches of the usual places (Flickr, YouTube, Vimeo, .gov sites), and couldn't find free images of her. However, I found a large number of images of British opera singers in one place at https://www.roh.org.uk/ and their Flickr account at https://www.flickr.com/photos/royaloperahouse/. It might be worth emailing them to ask whether they would be so kind as to mark them with a license we can use, such as https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/; if they do, we get images not for just this singer but presumably many others. If you happen to personally know someone at the Royal Opera House that would be best, but if not, if you like, I can try it - my success rate for such emails is maybe 20%, so not great, but not 0. --GRuban (talk) 20:55, 19 August 2021 (UTC)
- @Gerda Arendt: Thanks for replying so swiftly! There is no rush, and suggesting a good example (Jesse Norman) is very helpful. GRuban Very many thanks for doing a more knowledgeable search for a suitable picture of Susan Bickley. Sadly I don't know anyone at the Royal Opera House, or anyone who might know someone there. Maybe the organisation could be persuaded that it fits with their public outreach activities to attract the widest range of people and also inspire children into opera? I have no experience of asking people to licence photos to be suitable for Wikipedia. Can I say - would you be prepared to have a go? As you mention, if you were successful, that could be great for many pages, and if they said 'no', well that's no change. Sorry - that is the easy choice for me and the difficult one for you. MerielGJones (talk) 22:13, 19 August 2021 (UTC)
- I wonder if Adam Cuerden would know better. Or ask project opera? (link on my user page) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:29, 19 August 2021 (UTC)
- I see no response at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Opera#Royal_Opera_House_contact, so wrote them on their form at https://www.roh.org.uk/contact. To set expectations properly, my experience asking this sort of thing is about 60% no response, and 25% respond but say "no", but that does leave some number of successes. --GRuban (talk) 12:12, 23 August 2021 (UTC)
- GRuban Many thanks for doing this. It is kind of you to make the effort to contact ROH. I know it is difficult to get pictures appropriately licenced for Wikipedia so I will not be surprised if the result is no change. @Gerda Arendt: MerielGJones (talk) 16:32, 23 August 2021 (UTC)
- I looked at the article and was impressed, - thank you for the additions. I copy-edited what's there. I'd add Cassandra in Troyens, to give her a bit more weight. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:26, 23 August 2021 (UTC)

Possible merge
Hi! Could you check if M. L. J. Abercrombie should be merged into Minnie Abercrombie and, if so, merge them? Thank you very much in advance! --Epìdosis 07:32, 14 March 2022 (UTC)
- Yes, they are indeed the same person. Also has 2 entries in Wikidata (Minnie Abercrombie (Q15994255) - with most of the data refs and also pages with this name in 4 other language Wikipedias; M. L. J. Abercrombie (Q6712823) with less info and just the M L J Abercrombie page listed). I will merge into the Minnie Abercrombie page since that exists in other Wikipedias as well. Please could someone else sort out Wikidata since I do not understand how to deal with duplicate entries in it? Thank you. MerielGJones (talk) 09:05, 14 March 2022 (UTC)

Autopatrolled
Hi MerielGJones, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the "autopatrolled" permission to your account, as you have created numerous, valid articles. This feature will have no effect on your editing, and is simply intended to reduce the workload on new page patrollers. For more information on the autopatrolled right, see Wikipedia:Autopatrolled. However, you should consider adding relevant wikiproject talk-page templates, stub-tags and categories to new articles that you create if you aren't already in the habit of doing so, since your articles will no longer be systematically checked by other editors (User:Evad37/rater and User:SD0001/StubSorter.js are useful scripts which can help). Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! – Joe (talk) 12:38, 12 May 2022 (UTC)

- Thank you very much @JoJan for your invitation, but I do not think I can contribute regularly about gastropods. I know nothing about them. My interest lies in plants and microbes, rather than animals. However, I also occasionally check if topics in the news that I think are interesting are covered in Wikipedia. Babakina anadoni was so pretty that I thought it should be included. Thank you for adding a taxonbar to the page about it; I've not noticed this command before and it is something I can use in future. DYK for Regensburg Botanical Society
On 26 October 2022, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Regensburg Botanical Society, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the Regensburg Botanical Society, founded on 14 May 1790, is the world's oldest extant botanical society? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Regensburg Botanical Society. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Regensburg Botanical Society), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. December newsletter
SYMBIOSIS: The lichen task force newsletter — December 2022 A look at what we've accomplished, working together
Happy holidays! Regardless of which holidays you choose to celebrate, here's hoping they're enjoyable. As we reach the end of our first six months, we can be proud of the progress we've made to date – particularly considering the tiny size of our task force. We now have more than 4,100 articles, categories, templates and redirects under our watch. We've created a sizeable glossary (with more entries being added every day), whittled down the project's cleanup listing, and added biographies about a number of prominent lichenologists. To date, we have one Featured Article and 23 Good Articles. Clearly, there's plenty more to do, but we're off to a solid start. Here's to a productive new year! |

Editors have been busy over the past month:

A sentence in our Cladonia squamosa article was challenged back in 2014(!!) when a reader discovered that the supplied source did not corroborate the information. The editor who finds a valid source for the sentence (or corrects the information as necessary) and, in addition, replaces any redlinks with appropriate links to our new glossary of lichen terms will get public kudos in the next newsletter.

The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Rebecca Yahr. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Rebecca Yahr), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. January newsletter
SYMBIOSIS: The lichen task force newsletter — January 2023 A look at what we've accomplished, working together
Happy new year! We head into 2023 with plenty of work to do. We're missing articles on a handful of lichen families, scores of lichen genera and thousands of lichen species. Dozens of important lichenologists are "missing" too. We need to check or update the taxonomy of hundreds of existing taxa articles. Many articles about basic lichen structures and functions are either tiny stubs or badly in need of referencing or updating. There's certainly enough to keep us busy for a good long while! Here's to a productive year ahead. |
||
| ||
Kazamzam met last month's challenge and provided an updated reference for the Cladonia squamosa article – which indicated a significantly larger world range for the species than had been previously listed. Nice job! This month, we're looking for someone to replace the dead reference in Ramalina fraxinea (defunct since April 2018!) with one (or more) which corroborates the information that the old reference did. The editor who meets this challenge will get public kudos in the next newsletter.

The article Llinos Medi Huws has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Proposed deletion: This is in a minority of council leaders who have an article, Ynys Mon/Anglesey is not a major population centre or major council, there is very little information here worthy of an encyclopedia page and now the individual in question is running for parliament (as of Sept 2023) I fear it will become a propaganda tool. There are AFAIK well established precendents for not having pages on candidates unless they are already noteworthy and IMO being a council leader of a small council (even though it is a principle authority) does not meet that bar
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
This bot DID NOT nominate any of your contributions for deletion; please refer to the history of each individual page for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 10:00, 28 September 2023 (UTC)

Hello, I'm Pigsonthewing. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. I noticed that you unlinked one or more redlinks from Margaret E. Bradshaw. Redlinks are useful and can often be helpful, so we don't remove them just because they are red. They help improve Wikipedia by attracting editors to create needed articles.
In addition, clicking on the "What links here" link (in the tools listed at the left in desktop view) on a missing article shows how many—and which—articles depend on that article being created. This can help prioritize article creation. Please only remove a redlink if you are pretty sure that it is to a non-notable topic and not likely ever to be created. Thanks!
