thanks

Hellooo, are there any references in there?

Hi Megalibrarygirl, thanks for improving The Princess and the Pony Coolabahapple (talk) 04:32, 7 September 2016 (UTC)

LOL, no problem Coolabahapple. That book rocks. I had to watch the children's area of my library and found that book on the to-be-shelved cart and thought it was just awesome. :) Megalibrarygirl (talk) 15:13, 7 September 2016 (UTC)

Readers contributions

Hello, just heads up that a conversation around readers contributions is happening here and it might be of interest to you. Thanks!--Melamrawy (WMF) (talk) 00:04, 8 September 2016 (UTC)

Hi, Melamrawy (WMF), I'll take a look. :) Megalibrarygirl (talk) 00:18, 8 September 2016 (UTC)

The "living" parameter in the Wikiproject biography template

FYI, it would be appreciated if you add living=yes or living=no for now on when adding {{Wikiproject biography}}.

Thanks,

@I dream of horses:, Hi, I can do that. :) Megalibrarygirl (talk) 13:28, 8 September 2016 (UTC)

Africa

Not women in red list, entries at the bottom not top ;-). Thanks for your articles though keep 'em coming! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:48, 8 September 2016 (UTC)

Oops! Will do and I'm happy to help out, Dr. Blofeld. I ran down a rabbit hole of awesome women in South Africa and I'm writing about all of 'em. LOL. Megalibrarygirl (talk) 16:51, 8 September 2016 (UTC)
Betcha haven't started the Phantomhitchhiker yet ;-) I still remember that episode vividly from about 1995, chilling! Well worth a watch, but not for the faint of heart!♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:54, 8 September 2016 (UTC)
I think I've seen that before, Dr. Blofeld! Megalibrarygirl (talk) 18:35, 8 September 2016 (UTC)

Coolness! Thanks for the heads up, Olaniyan Olushola. :) Megalibrarygirl (talk) 18:55, 10 September 2016 (UTC)

Hi. I was wondering if in the US you could access this. I found a quote "nothing really can exceed the marvellous beauty of six feet of Clunie's water with the graceful Nymphcea on the top" but makes no sense without the context, can you find it and tweak it?♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:04, 11 September 2016 (UTC)

Dr. Blofeld, I can access it. I sent you an email. Check what I found and let me know if you need more. :) Megalibrarygirl (talk) 17:59, 11 September 2016 (UTC)

Request: check a cite on EBSCO?

Hi Megalibrarygirl,

Picking you to bug somewhat at random from Category:Wikipedians who have access to EBSCO (well, and as a librarian I expect you've built up a large tolerance for random people asking you to find stuff for them :)).

I'm doing some cleanup of references and am having trouble with one that is incomplete and for which all details appear to be hidden behind EBSCO's paywall:

If you're able to and so inclined, I would very much appreciate it if you could get me full bibliographic details on this article(?). In particular: year published, journal name, volume, issue, ISSN/eISSN for the journal, and DOI or other identifiers for the article. If you could also verify the extant bibliographic details and the URL (it's odd that it doesn't lead to at least an abstract and just shows a login screen; perhaps there's a better URL we should use?).

In any case, all assistance here would be very much appreciated! --Xover (talk) 11:31, 11 September 2016 (UTC)

Hi Xover, i googled it - gsearch and came up with this - PUB. DATE June 2008 SOURCE Criticism; Summer2009, Vol. 50 Issue 3, p471 (EBSCO result), with jstor saying this - Criticism Vol. 50, No. 3 (Summer 2008), pp. 471-499 (jstor), hope this helps kitten stalker - meowr! Coolabahapple (talk) 16:59, 11 September 2016 (UTC)
Jeeze. Your Google-fu is clearly more powerful than mine. Thank you Coolabahapple! And apologies to our host for the needless disturbance (if Google sees it, I really should have been able to find it myself). --Xover (talk) 17:33, 11 September 2016 (UTC)
@Xover and Coolabahapple:, Hi! I'm happy looking stuff up any time you need it. Don't hesitate to ask. You're right, librarians are not only immune to requests... we love them! Coolabahapple, nice google-fu! Megalibrarygirl (talk) 17:44, 11 September 2016 (UTC)
Hi Xover and Megalibrarygirl, no probs ... the power of the goooooooogggg. Coolabahapple (talk) 23:47, 11 September 2016 (UTC)

El Paso past

Who knew? 1917 Bath Riots is a fascinating snapshot of a troubled time. Wonder whatever happened to Torres? SusunW (talk) 23:27, 12 September 2016 (UTC)

That is an awesome article, SusunW. I'll see what I can find in Border Heritage about Carmelita Torres. We may have news clippings and such. :) Megalibrarygirl (talk) 23:37, 12 September 2016 (UTC)
It was a fun one to do, but hard to negotiate through the obvious biases of the time. The Spanish language version of the El Paso Times were less blatatly racist. But clearly, it made the news throughout the US. Anything you can add would be wonderful. SusunW (talk) 23:41, 12 September 2016 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

The Citation Barnstar
Thanks for finding the "women in ???" and improving the "women in ???" lists. Its a gnomic task that just enables others to find something interesting and inspiring. Well done for your assistance to WIR and Wikipedia. I hope the World of Librarians Museum (c) puts your picture over their Halls of Fame. Well Done Victuallers (talk) 15:35, 13 September 2016 (UTC)
I love the idea of a World of Librarians Museum, Victuallers. :D Thanks for the barnstar and believe me, I do love adding to the lists, so I'm happy to help. :) Megalibrarygirl (talk) 16:14, 13 September 2016 (UTC)

The Signpost: Watching Wikipedia with the project devoted to television

Congrats on publishing another great Signpost article! --Rosiestep (talk) 22:22, 6 September 2016 (UTC)

Thanks, Rosiestep! :) I need to get cracking on the next one. I have a few good leads already... ie. someone wrote me back about a WikiProject. ;) Megalibrarygirl (talk) 23:31, 6 September 2016 (UTC)
Hi MLG! Thank you for that awesome WPTV article! I shared it to Facebook! Wyliepedia(CAWylie) 22:23, 14 September 2016 (UTC)
Thank you for interviewing with me, CAWylie. :) Megalibrarygirl (talk) 23:10, 14 September 2016 (UTC)

WiR23

Hi Sue. As Rosie seems to be completely bogged down at the moment, I've edited your Nigerian editathon page to bring it into line with the Nigerian contest. As things were heating up more and more on various sites, I didn't think there should be any further delay. I've been working a bit on their list of red links too. I'm pretty busy myself at the moment but will try to add more tomorrow. I think several of the names on the list at the moment are AfD candidates. Thanks for all your support.--Ipigott (talk) 15:36, 15 September 2016 (UTC)

OK, Ipigott. I appreciate it. I wasn't sure what to do about the whole thing after it kind of blew up. >.< I'll look at the red lists, too. Megalibrarygirl (talk) 15:40, 15 September 2016 (UTC)

The Wiki Loves Women Nigeria writing contest intivation

Wiki Loves Women- Monthly Contest (September)!
Hello, this is to notify you about a monthly article writing contest organized by Wikimedia User Group Nigeria in collaboration with Wiki Loves Women to increase the coverage of Nigerian women on Wikipedia! The theme for the month of September is Women in Entertainment. See the contest page here. Thank you. Delivered: 13:23, 16 September 2016 (UTC)

Can you help save this article?

I just stumbled upon unreferenced Aylmer Hall. I am a bit busy right now, and my very quick search did not find any particularly good sources. Perhaps you could find something we could add to show she is notable, before someone deletes this? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 03:24, 20 September 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know, Piotrus. I'm on it. :) Megalibrarygirl (talk) 16:13, 20 September 2016 (UTC)

Wikipedia Visiting Scholars

Hi there,

Just saw your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Barbara Jayne Orser along the lines of what you do when you don't have access to a source (btw Rhododendrites is my volunteer account). Have you come across the Wikipedia Visiting Scholars program? The idea is for libraries at educational institutions to to provide remote access to their resources to experienced Wikipedians based on shared interests. The Wikipedian gets access to the same databases, ebooks, etc. that someone attending/working at the university would have, and the only requirement is that they agree to bring some articles in a topic area of mutual interest up to B-class or better. There are some openings right now, but you can also indicate in the application that none of the current openings are a good fit, and we'll (the Wiki Education Foundation) will conduct outreach to find a match. Food for thought. :) Let me know if I can answer any questions about it. --Ryan (Wiki Ed) (talk) 16:32, 15 September 2016 (UTC)

Hi Ryan (Wiki Ed)/Rhododendrites, I have pretty good database access myself, since I'm a librarian. :) One of the things I really find frustrating is the comments from editors that just because they don't have access to a source, it's invalid. I have to counter this argument a few times a month (often from the same people). Does Visiting Scholars work with public libraries? My library, the El Paso Public Library has an extensive Border Heritage section (focusing on El Paso, Ciudad Jaurez and surrounding areas) which I think would be valuable to share with Wiki. Do you think there's any way I can get involved with that? Megalibrarygirl (talk) 16:39, 15 September 2016 (UTC)
The Visiting Scholars program is open to anyone to use as a model. The main idea is for Wikipedians to gain access to resources that help them to improve articles in an area of interest, so if the resources you'd like to share are not otherwise available, and/or if you have other resources (databases, etc.) that you can share, then it might be a good fit. As far as our organization goes (Wiki Ed), our mission to bridge academia and Wikipedia means public libraries are unfortunately out of scope for what we can coordinate/support at this time. Regardless, if it's something you want to explore I'd be happy to talk more about it sometime. --Ryan (Wiki Ed) (talk) 14:34, 21 September 2016 (UTC)
Hi Ryan (Wiki Ed), I'd love to talk about it. We have some excellent resources here that no one else does--including maps, architectural drawings, photo collections and books about the El Paso/Mexico border area. We've been working on digitizing many of the resources. I'd love to help out and contribute this information. Let me know when you're free to chat, or if you wish to email me, please do. My library's web site is Paso Public Library. Megalibrarygirl (talk) 16:44, 21 September 2016 (UTC)
