[[I'm back from helping at the Malvern Challenge. Sorry if I kept anyone waiting. Mdann52 (talk) 16:27, 1 July 2012 (UTC)

As you were a recent participant in an edit war at the above-named article I am taking the opportunity to warn you formally that the article is now under a no-reverts rule. This means that from now on anyone making a revert will be blocked instantly without further warning, except in cases of really obvious vandalism. Instead of reverting, you should consider trying for compromise either by drafting a good-faith compromise in the article, or discussing towards one in talk. Edit-warring deters other editors and poisons the atmosphere that we need to edit constructively. Please do not do it.--John (talk) 15:25, 30 June 2012 (UTC)

NOTE I was not involved in the edit war directly - it was a good faith revert by wp:STiki Mdann52 (talk) 13:05, 2 July 2012 (UTC)

Not worth the drama getting the page restored to see the threat -- admins can see it and they're the ones that have to make the block, anyway. Nobody Ent 20:49, 2 July 2012 (UTC)

AWB

To prove that AWB would be useful, make about 400 or more good article edits manually of the type that AWB could help out with. This may be for example, spelling corrections, punctuation fixing, category reorganization. It could be anything repetitive across many articles, such as adding a navigation template. The challenge is non automation, even though AWB will automate things! THe particular reason I declined at this point is that you made an spelling error in your response. Since this tool is targetted at fixing these sort of things it is very important that you give it accurate instructions, such as the correct spelling. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 13:03, 4 July 2012 (UTC)

Hi Mdann52,

I have 14 independent sources in the page. Do you think that is enough to get approved if I submit the page to Articles for Creation?

Thanks for the help.

CSD A1

Hi Mdann. You may have already noticed but your last three tags of CSD A1 (no context) have been turned down. Stadium (MYNC Song) and Ununluxium were short but quite explicit ("Stadium is a song by Calvin Harris" and "ununluxium is a radioactive element with symbol L 119"). Cthulhu Dice was actually detailed. So all three definitely do not qualify for speedy deletion under the A1 criterion. Of course all three articles have problems and Ununluxium will even be deleted as pure vandalism but please make sure to apply the A1 tag more conservatively. Cheers, Pichpich (talk) 17:11, 5 July 2012 (UTC)

I think my understanding on the policy may need brushing up on then.... Mdann52 (talk) 17:12, 5 July 2012 (UTC)

Ken Sibanda

Hi Mdann52. I noticed that you're currently preparing to pass Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Ken Sibanda. I'm not going to disagree with your decision, but suggest you check the references extra carefully - there have been some serious issues with this subject and User:Mziboy (who is closely affiliated with Mr Sibanda). See Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ken Sibanda, and User talk:Mziboy for details. I'm not saying you shouldn't pass the article if you feel the sources meet WP:GNG, just suggesting you be careful if you're unaware of the history. All the best, Yunshui  13:52, 6 July 2012 (UTC)

Please unsalt Dave Days

Hi there, could you please unsalt Dave Days so that the AFC article for him can be moved to mainspace. If you'd like to review it first to make sure you agree the subject finally meets notability requirements, please check it out here: Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Dave Days. Thanks! Sorry I guess I misunderstood your edit at ANI... anyway, I have submitted a DRV request here: Wikipedia:Deletion_review/Log/2012_July_6#Dave_Days if you are interested. Zad68 18:12, 6 July 2012 (UTC)

Yarone Zober notability

Hi Mdann. I don't believe Yarone Zober is important enough to have his own article. The only reason he has his own article is because he's the chief of staff to the mayor of Pittsburgh, PA, which I don't think even comes close to qualifying him as notable, per Wikipedia's notability guidelines for politicians. (He's actually not even a "politician" because he's not elected. He's an appointed political figure.) I originally made a help request about this on the Zober talk page. If you agree Zober is not notable, can you please initiate whatever process you think is best for deleting the article? You seem to be an expert on this process and it's too confusing for me. Thanks. --76.189.114.18 (talk) 22:51, 6 July 2012 (UTC)

AFC

Hi there, Mdann52. I'm really sorry, but I'd like to ask you to stop reviewing submissions at Articles for Creation. It's great that you want to help out, but you've been accepting many unsuitable articles. I took a look through your contribs, and every accepted submission I have looked at so far has problems, with the sourcing, with the writing, the standards etc. I understand you've not been here very long, so I suggest you take a break from this particular area of Wikipedia until you're a lot more experienced and have a much better understanding of sources, verifiability and WP:GNG. I'm sorry if this sounds mean, but accepting unsuitable and messy articles just leaves a mess for others to clean up. I suggest sticking to the other areas you like working in for now. Regards, OohBunnies! (talk) 23:23, 6 July 2012 (UTC)

Courtesy note: I've mentioned you here. It's not because I want to draw attention to any errors or anything, just so I can get help cleaning/tagging the articles. Regards, OohBunnies! (talk) 00:49, 7 July 2012 (UTC)

Nomination of Établissement public à caractère administratif (article you reviewed and approved two days ago) for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Établissement public à caractère administratif is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Établissement public à caractère administratif until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. 80.13.85.217 (talk) 19:34, 7 July 2012 (UTC)

Édouard Hambye

Hi. Sorry but on what basis did you make a non-admin close rather than either "voting" or relisting? Cheers. In ictu oculi (talk) 23:35, 7 July 2012 (UTC)

The basis was there was quite clearly no clear move or no move, even after relisting. I personally had no opinion on the move, so I decided to close it. Mdann52 (talk) 07:56, 8 July 2012 (UTC)
Have you closed many moves? I thought it was something usually done by admins? In ictu oculi (talk) 12:09, 8 July 2012 (UTC)
That standard is a bit different than the standard for a non-administrative closure stipulated by our guidelines: "The consensus or lack of consensus is clear after a full listing period (seven days)". With a 2-2 vote after 13 days, it is early to claim that it is "clear" that no consensus is possible. The fact that no one likes the current title also makes this closure more complex. Kauffner (talk) 13:55, 8 July 2012 (UTC)
  • Hi Mdann. Hope you don't think I'm piling on here, but Kauffner asked me to comment, so I thought I'd give my $0.02. Just read over the discussion and I think your close was probably correct (it is the close I would have made) and if you were an admin it would be within what is termed 'admin discretion'. That said, when a no consensus close is contested, especially in a case like this where there were only limited participants and it had not been relisted, it is generally a good idea to reopen the discussion and give it a relisting. While your close was (IMO) an accurate reading of the discussion to date, there is no harm in giving it an extra week to see if a consensus can develop. @IIO, NACs are perfectly acceptable (and relatively common) at RM, there are some guidelines at WP:RMCI that cover it. Best, Jenks24 (talk) 14:48, 8 July 2012 (UTC) P.S. – I see from your timezone that you might be a Brit. If so, hope you are watching the Wimbledon final, Murray is playing well! Jenks24 (talk) 14:48, 8 July 2012 (UTC)
May I just ask - It has been relisted already - should I reopen it or just leave it now - considering an admin closure went the same way with similar comments on both sides? Mdann52 (talk) 17:12, 8 July 2012 (UTC)
It hasn't been relisted that I can see. My advice would be to reopen it, but the decision is ultimately yours. Jenks24 (talk) 17:09, 9 July 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for reopening. In ictu oculi (talk) 17:30, 10 July 2012 (UTC)

Conserve Wildlife Foundation of NJ

Hi Mdann52,

Thank you for your help with the Conserve Wildlife Foundation of NJ page. I saw that the page was flagged to be deleted. What is the process for an article to be deleted? Should some information be removed from the page?

Thank you. (talk)Riverline5 (talk) 15:30, 9 July 2012 (UTC)

No - the Current deletion discussion is to keep the article. The reason it has been AFD'd is because there is an accusation of helping to create 'unsuitable articles' against me at the moment. Mdann52 (talk) 15:36, 9 July 2012 (UTC)

AFC Question

Dear Mdann52. I'm curious to know why you feel that my article on the Drummully Polyp would be better integrated into an article on the geography of Ireland? The polyp is not a geographical feature, but a political one. I accept that it might need to be linked better. Perhaps clearer links to "enclaves and exclaves" and "list of enclaves and exclaves" would be more appropriate. After all, Wikipedia accepts articles on "Baarle Nassau", "Campione", "Llivia" and many other enclaves/ exclaves, without demanding that they be integrated into an article on the geography of the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, Switzerland, Spain or France. Dikaiosynenemesis (talk) 20:56, 10 July 2012 (UTC)

Please note, due to an incident, I am currently on a short Wikibreak from anything to do with AFC. I plan to return by the end of the month. Ask me then by all means. Sorry to be a pain, Mdann52 (talk) 21:18, 10 July 2012 (UTC)

Question about your auto edits.

Hi,

I just made some verifiable edits for accuracy and redundancy on the Wikipedia page for Tim Crown. You immediately reverted all of the changed back. I think you may have something set to do this automatically. I had added a reference to the changes for accuracy and the other items were redundant. Is there something I need to do differently to have the edits stick. Thanks for your help!

Azfinance (talk) 16:40, 12 July 2012 (UTC)

If you had included the source to start with, the edits wouldn't of been reverted. The reason why all the edits got deleted was because I user rollback rights. If you want the previous version back, just let me know. Sorry for the misunderstanding, Mdann52 (talk) 17:27, 12 July 2012 (UTC)
also, the tool is semi-automatic, meaning I have full control over what it does, but I only need to do 1 click to carry out the actions. Mdann52 (talk) 17:30, 12 July 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the feedback and the explanation. Appreciate it! Azfinance (talk) 17:12, 13 July 2012 (UTC)

I doubt I can save it - I recommend going to WP:AFC, where the reviewer can help get the article in the right direction. Mdann52 (talk) 16:19, 13 July 2012 (UTC)

Altered speedy deletion rationale: Lightshifterz

Hello Mdann52, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I deleted Lightshifterz, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, under a different criterion from the one you provided. The speedy deletion criteria are extremely narrow and specific, and the process is more effective if the correct criterion is used. You may wish to review the Criteria for Speedy Deletion before tagging further pages. Thank you. -- Selket Talk 16:21, 13 July 2012 (UTC)

Hello

The first thing that caught my eye was your name, which is similar to mine (my real last name starts with M, my first name is Dan). The next thing I noticed is how much you've done in a short time. I see that you use 2 anti-vandal tools. I've thought about using one but wasn't sure. Why do you use 2? And which one is better? --Musdan77 (talk) 00:36, 15 July 2012 (UTC)

The reason I use two is they both do different things - WP:GLOO monitors live changes, WP:STiki uses a database of previous changes. Mdann52 (talk) 07:22, 15 July 2012 (UTC)

Dear Author/Mdann52

My name is Nuša Farič and I am a Health Psychology MSc student at the University College London (UCL). I am currently running a quantitative study entitled Who edits health-related Wikipedia pages and why? I am interested in the editorial experience of people who edit health-related Wikipedia pages. I am interested to learn more about the authors of health-related pages on Wikipedia and what motivations they have for doing so. I am currently contacting the authors of randomly selected articles and I noticed that someone at this address recently edited an article on Avascular necrosis. I would like to ask you a few questions about you and your experience of editing the above mentioned article and or other health-related articles. If you would like more information about the project, please visit my user page (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Hydra_Rain) and if interested, please reply via my talk page or e-mail me on nusa.faric.11@ucl.ac.uk. Also, others interested in the study may contact me! If I do not hear back from you I will not contact this account again. Thank you very much in advance. Hydra Rain (talk) 18:48, 16 July 2012 (UTC)

Move from AfC to User space?

Am I missing something? It appears like you moved Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Brian Alan Lane to User:Rwaytz/Brian Alan Lane. Why is that? Ryan Vesey Review me! 13:24, 17 July 2012 (UTC)

User requested the move on IRC. Mdann52 (talk) 13:51, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
Gotcha, it's probably good to leave that note in the future, the speedy request wasn't correct. That only applies to redirects in the main space. I'd just leave it as a redirect for now. Ryan Vesey Review me! 13:53, 17 July 2012 (UTC)

Copyvio at AfC

Looking at User talk:DavidManley2 I see you moved this editor's submission into article space. The article, Natural Resource Charter, has been deleted as copyvio from [1]. Do you check articles for copyvio before creating them? I've expressed concern about AfC editors not checking for copyvio before. Among other things, and you may not have thought of this, it's the editor creating the article in article space that's adding copyvio to article space, which I'm sure you would want to try hard to avoid. Thanks. Dougweller (talk) 08:11, 18 July 2012 (UTC)

Ah, I forgot. I see you know about this. Have you checked your other submissions for copyvio? Dougweller (talk) 08:21, 18 July 2012 (UTC)
I have done a quick check of the submissions, but that isn't always completely conclusive. I will in the future, but I am not active on AFC at the minute. Mdann52 (talk) 10:01, 18 July 2012 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Justin McAuliffe article

Hello Mdann52, This is a reply to your proposal of deletion of the page I created for Justin Mcauliffe.

You cited the following reasons:

Completely lacking in independent refs

"Completely lacking" means that there are absolutely no independent references. I believe you are mistaken on this reason. With the exception of reference number 2 and number 6, all other references are independent and from reputable sources.

Notability is not inherited from his great grandfather.

It's arguable. He has inherited enough notability from his great grandfather and grandfather along with his philanthropic work to be invited to be part of multiple UN conferences and join the exclusive Nexus network of global leaders ( nexusyouthsummit.org/people and http://www.vanityfair.com/online/daily/2011/08/it_s-catching--the-un-galvanizes-philanthropy-among-the-super-ri ) Within the hospitality industry and the Cornell University Hotel School networks, he is very well known. Justin was the centerpiece behind a philanthropic million dollar donation to the school shortly post graduation ( although this link doesn't specifically mention Justin, the one in reference number 1 and number 4 do. http://cornellsun.com/section/news/content/2010/04/09/hilton-foundation-donates-university-scholarship-fund ).

Thank you for keeping wikipedia clean! let me know your thoughts, Thank you!

Question on "notability"

Changing flow of redirects

Hi Mdann52, hope you're enjoying your vacation.

I recently submitted a redirect request (on the 17th July) so that the redirection of pages 'Yeshe Losal', 'Lama Yeshe Losal', 'Lama Yeshe Rinpoche' landed up on 'Lama Yeshe Losal Rinpoche', from which you kindly added a redirect from 'Lama Yeshe Rinpoche' to 'Yeshe Losal'.

Did I make a mistake in the formatting of the redirect request due to my wiki-ignorance? What format of request should I submit so that Wikipedia sends users clicking on 'Yeshe Losal' etc. instead land on the correct 'Lama Yeshe Losal Rinpoche'?

Thank you very much,

Iskanderos — Preceding unsigned comment added by Iskanderos (talkcontribs) 19:39, 24 July 2012 (UTC) :Just human error - I will correct it. Mdann52 (talk) 15:34, 25 July 2012 (UTC)

actually, it was a bot fixing a wp:double redirect, so I'll leave it how it is. Mdann52 (talk) 15:46, 25 July 2012 (UTC)

Ah, I see thanks for the explanation. How do you recommend achieving my desired result (effectively changing the name of the article 'Yeshe Losal' to 'Lama Yeshe Losal Rinpoche'?

Thank you again!

Alexander

Iskanderos (talk)

Lama Yeshe Losal Rinpoche is currently a redirect to Yeshe Losal, so if I changed it, it would be a redirect to a redirect (a "double redirect") which Wikipedia can't process. If you wish to rename the article, start a wp:Requested Moves discussion. Mdann52 (talk) 17:10, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
