Introduction

[edit]

Please don’t bite me, I’m a newbie!

I’m a university student in a Wikipedia Education class, and I’m currently learning how to contribute to Wikipedia.
I am approaching my subject in good faith.

If you have any concerns or questions, my tutor’s name is Almamo18 (talk · contribs). Thanks!

Edits to Knowledge of the Holocaust in Nazi Germany and German-occupied Europe

[edit]

Your edits to Knowledge of the Holocaust in Nazi Germany and German-occupied Europe were very helpful! Thanks for improving the encyclopedia. However, one issue is when you cite an entire book without citing a page number it's difficult to WP:VERIFY the information. Would it be possible for you to go back and add the page numbers? Thanks in advance, (t · c) buidhe 03:54, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

hi buidhe, Thank you for that feedback! I'm actually editing this page as part of a university subject and I've made the mistake of uploading my edits too early. So after my tutor checks it and whatnot, I'll reupload my edits and have the page references as well. So if you find the page is reverted back, that's the reasoning behind it. The edits you've seen plus more will be uploaded in the next few weeks. Kind regards May12278899

Citing sources

[edit]

On wikipedia the rule is "cite where you read it". If you see a source quoted in another source, cite the one that you actually accessed rather than the original. Did you physically access the following sources:

  • Letter from prefect of Vas County to chief administrative officers and mayors (6 May 1944), USHMM, RG-52.001M, reel 99, 7431/1944.
  • See confidential Interior Ministry order 6163/1944 (7 April 1944), and Interior Ministry order 1600/1944 (28 April 1944), in Vádirat a nácizmus ellen: Dokumentumok a magyarországi zsidóülözés torténetéhez, ed. Ilona Benoschofsky and Elek Karsai (Budapest: A Magyar Izraeliták Országos Képviselete Kiadása, 1958), 1:124–27, 244–50.
  • Jord Schaap, Het recht om te waarschuwen: Over de Radio Oranje-toespraken van koningin Wilhelmina (Amsterdam: Anthos, 2007), 151.
  • NARB, fond 359, opis 1, delo 19: ‘Memoirs of Georgij Elper about the occupation period and life in Minsk ghetto’.
  • György Ottlik’s report to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, October 10, 1942, HNA, Series K 64, fascicle 96, item 41, fi le 437/1942.1
  • Diary of Kruisinga, July 12, 23, August 8, 18, 1942; February 20, October 16, 1943.
  • Diary of Voet, NIOD, collection 244, file 163, 79.

Citing archives directly is generally discouraged because they are difficult to verify and may violate original research if you aren't careful. If I'm not mistaken here, it would be great if you could go back and replace these with the source where you read the information. (t · c) buidhe 14:58, 31 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
