Natl1's RFA

Hello Maxim/Archives/1, thank you for the recent support in my recent RFA. However, even with your generous support the RFA did not succeed. I still hope to become a sysop in the future and have compiled a list of things to do before having another RFA.

1. Use edit summaries (I have enabled edit summary warnings) Grandmasterka, Jhfireboy

2. Mark edits as minor Jhfireboy

3. Not enough (2,000) edits for adminship Anthony.bradbury

4. 6 months of experience needed to become an admin. Nishkid64

5. Try more Wikipedia mainspace edits, policy edits, and Wikipedia article edits. Darthgriz98

6. Do not use fair use images in user namespace (sandboxes). MECU

RE: Barnstar

Thanks for the Barnstar. Hasek is the best 15:44, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

I just left a comment concerning your oppose vote in Deryck Chan rfa, which isn't fair at all. I strongly urge you to reconsider. Thanks Jaranda wat's sup 23:11, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

Hi Evilclown,
For the record, I understood your point about believing an editor's English should be good to become an administrator on the English language edition. I agree it's important. I don't believe Jaranda made a personal attack, as he was specifically commenting on your contribution, not on a contributor, per WP:NPA. If it eases your mind any, in the little over a month that I have known Deryck, I haven't had any problem understanding his English, and I wouldn't have suspected he was a non-native speaker if he hadn't told me, and if he hadn't had the template. I've got eng-3 on my userpage, and I've been administrating (hopefully successfully) for a half a year. Deryck has successfully helped bring several articles up to Featured status, and the folks at WP:FAC are very stringent when it comes to English, so his level of English doesn't concern me. Anyway, just wanted to explain my view, as the nominator. Best wishes and happy editing, :) Firsfron of Ronchester 17:26, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

My RFA

Thank you for posting a comment on my talk page. I hope I didn't misinterpret your meaning too far, and wish we can work well together if I turn sysop. A big thanks for your comment on my RFA which revealed a concern about my image on Wikipedia which I've never thought of. --Deryck C. 08:12, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

Re: Five Barnstars at a time - I'm in awe at your dedication!

Er... thanks, I guess! Though I fear you may be de-valuing the Barnstar somewhat! Nice to know my work is appreciated, anyway. (Seventeen hours? Which day was that?) – Qxz 22:22, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

I miscounted a bit. Today, you edited for about 15 hours, getting between 1000 and 1500 edits (maybe around 1250). The Barnstars aren't being devalued - you are devaluing every editor on Wikipedia there is. If you go at this rate for a year and half (I think that is the average time until a succesful RFA), you'd have 50000 edits. So, are you interested in be a sysop? When you reach 3 months ,maybe, you'll pass the RFA. The Evil Clown 22:29, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
Hmmm... well, I wasn't actually editing the whole time... I took quite a few breaks to, well, do stuff. Anyway, I won't have nearly this much time in March or indeed for most of the rest of the year. I'm not particularly interested in becoming an administrator, certainly not at the moment; while that may change over the next few months, I think it's unlikely – Qxz 22:34, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
Qxz! It's fully OK to not wan't to be a sysop, but when I do RC patrol, I'm beaten by you at least a tenth of the time. The only reason people haven't come to you is because of time. I honestly believe, after being beaten so constantly, you would pass right now. The Evil Clown 22:38, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
I am pretty sure there is more to being an administrator than how fast you can revert vandalism. There's certainly more than that involved in passing an adminship request, a quick look at the requests page tells you that – Qxz 22:42, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
I know, it is relatively tough, but I believed you were a sysop until I saw your page, and newcomer barnstar. That was one of the biggest surprises I encountered on Wikipedia. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Evilclown93 (talkcontribs) 22:44, 28 February 2007 (UTC).
Then you should look more carefully! If I was an administrator, my reverts would have the special edit summary that their "rollback" thingy makes. And I wouldn't be reporting users to AIV, I'd be blocking them. :) – Qxz 22:49, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

Royaltons

Hello. I am wiki user mnetta. I am trying to post an article about a term that is trademarked called Royaltons. It is a term that was trademarked by Andrea Hoffman of New Jersey based Diversity Affluence and is used to describe affluent individuals with income over 100,000 a year who are either hispanic, asian or african americans. The article was written in such a format that the company was only mentioned once to credit the source. The term has been used is publications and we felt that a description of it on a neutral, informative site such as wiki would be viable. Again the article does not possess links to a company site, nor is their a company article on wiki. The articles content is meant for description, not promotion as the tag states. Again, intuitively, one would assume that blatant promotion would include numerous references to a company, in which this article did not include. Is there any way that this article can be allowed now that it has been explained in more detail?

My RfA success

Thanks for celebrating with me! --Deryck C. 03:24, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

Your edit to Ice Hockey

You might want to leave a note on the discussion page regarding your last edit. I noticed you removed a large amount of content without giving a reason in the edit summary. edit conflict

Just a note to let you know that in what was probably an edit conflict, you removed a report from WP:AIAV. Might want to double check next time. Peace, coelacan20:29, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

It's okay! I do the same thing sometimes. I just figured you'd want it brought to your attention. Keep up the vandal fighting! =) coelacan20:43, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

I'm not sure. I think it's produced by one or more of the tools available from the Wikipedia:Counter-Vandalism Unit. You might want to ask at their talk page, or you could just try out some of the tools until you find one you like. coelacan20:48, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

Ahh, what you may have seen me using was the "undo" function. Go look at a diff, for example this one, and on the right side of the revisions there is a link that says "undo"; click on that and if it works (it doesn't always work) it will autogenerate a descriptive edit summary like that. I forgot about that; it's still a relatively new feature. coelacan20:54, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
Hm, I have a feeling that Coelacan just answered the question you also asked me on my talk page.  :) I'll skip the cut-and-paste response from my talk page, then. -- GJD 22:15, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

Edit war with Andromeda

Andromeda is effectivly blanking a controversial page without running an WP:Merge vote, i have told him 4 times to do this and two users do not want the page merged into the other article. I will be bringing this situation to administrator attention if he does not start paying attention. He has ignored 4 warnings on 3 different talk pages, namely Talk:Peter Grodin, Talk:Tau'ri characters on Stargate Atlantis. I'm not in the wrong here, and i'll get the pages protected by the admins if necessary, if Andromeda does not cease this. - 23:34, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

Thank you, although my comments are not personal attacks. If they wree, they would be abusive, vulgar and making passing referencs to his parental lineage. He's the sole editor behind the page merger, i can't just make the comment randomly or otherwise he could ignore it and claim i wasn't talking to him. The closest i got to a personal attack was telling him to "knock it off" and that's not a personal attack anyway. - Count23 23:46, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
Ok, well that's for the warning anyway. And thanks for stepping in with the merge vote, Andromeda would probably just blank the page anyway if i put one in there. - Count23 23:54, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

That article was more of a db-bio article, since it's like a userpage biography, right? The Evil Clown 19:39, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

I was unsure whether he wrote it about himself or someone else so i chose the largest safety net- feel free to correct me, i'd rather it was right. Jonomacdrones 19:42, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for introducing yourself to me and reviewing my stuff.

Thanks for introducing yourself to me. I certainly do appreciate any help that anyone wants to give me e.g., Wiki editing protocols, comments, etc.

I'm using my user page to develop a Wikipedia article what I consider to be a very significant and little known social problem, one that affects millions of minimum wage workers daily -- federal and state governments giving employers of tipped employees a significant employee-paid financial benefit by docking their minimum hourly wage entitlement on account of those employees' tips. In writing my article, I feel like I'm a Don Quixote of sorts.

I've had lots of professional experience hand coding HTML and VBScript web pages for corporate internets, and debugging web pages written by other users. In addition to personal websites I've put up, I've also published a browser-based interactive tutorial and workbook on the rather arcane subject of designing instrument panels for Microsoft's Flight Simulator aircraft. That ten-lesson tutorial and the accompanying interactive workbook evidently has had quite a bit of interest -- over 11,000 downloads in the two years since I uploaded it to http://www.simviation.com .

And therein lies my problem.

With all that coding experience (I've also done extensive coding in C/C++ and some Java/JavaScript coding as well) I find I have to tread carefully and lightly with what I've come to call "WikiScript".

Many HTML tags and CSS protocols aren't recognized in Wikimedia, and it seems to me that the Wiki documentation is scattered all over the place, with no central reference or directory.

Incidentally and as an aside, my personal belief is that the only reason Microsoft grew from its meagre beginnings in the '70's to the all-encompassing, octopus-like worldwide corporate behemoth that it is today is only because in those very early days Microsoft's (few) software manuals were exceptionally well written and easy to understand -- and therefore Microsoft's stuff was preferred over other better software whose manuals were written by good engineers but lousy technical writers. May the good gods above smile on Wiki's volunteers like you to help improve the quality of Wiki's documentation, and make the Wiki idea an even greater success and more widely used (and growing!) than it is now.

I'll continue to write/code and format my article on my User page, hopefully learning more Wiki stuff as I go along. Then when I think my article's ready for some peer review I'll flag you and ask for you help. After it's been reviewed and corrections/changes made, I'll post the article.

Thanks again,

K. Kellogg-Smith Abingdon, Maryland

P.S. I made entries for tip wage credit and tip credit in Wiktionary last week, violating several Wiktionary protocols in the process, but was delighted to see that my Wiki errors were commented upon and corrected.

Speed

How do you admin. find bad articles so quickly? Is it your "bots"?

A User page can't be speedily deleted because it contains little content — and what, in any case, is the point of deleting an empty User page for an IP address? --Mel Etitis (Talk) 10:30, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

Congrats on your vandalism!

I guess? (I saw your comment on Scientizzle's page.) I wanted to add that you might consider removing the fake "new messages"-like bar you have at the top of your page. In the past, editors have considered it disruptive (or at the very least, irritating), and the "last vandal" part seems to be a failure to assume good faith. Yeah, I know that recent changes patrolling gets frustrating with the number of vandal edits we get, but that's all the more reason to support our new good faith users. (Don't bite!) Anyway, it seems like you're adjusting well. Let me know if you have any questions. -- Merope 01:27, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

It's not really policy; it's just something you should be aware of. I personally hate the damn things, but I'm not the supreme lord of Wikipedia. (Yet.) It doesn't violate any rules--it's just something a number of editors have expressed concern about in the past. Changing the color of the bar would probably fix everything nicely, if you wanted to do that. -- Merope 20:50, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
Uhh... I'm kinda crap with templates, so I can't say why something does something. The attributes are just controlled differently, I guess? Try this: <div class="usermessage" style="background-color: #99cc99; border-color: black">You have new articles (last vandal).</div> Or, y'know, whatever color you want. -- Merope 22:09, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

In the article I'm drafting on my user page about the tip wage credit I have a table of external links to applicable sections of every state's minimum wage laws. I believe the state-by-state link table will be exceptionally useful to readers, and most likely will be self-updating. In my section on arguments for/against the tip credit I plan on using external links to various Restaurant Association websites (pro tip credit) and AFL-CIO websites (anti tip credit). My question is: Are external links such as I would like to use allowed in Wikipedia? I know they aren't in Wikitionary, where I've been posting tip wage credit definitions.

Thanks/best regards

Vanessa Daou Page

What's wrong with linking to Vanessa Daou's myspace page? I'm new to editing Wikipedia, so I'm not aware if this is something that's considered taboo. I hardly would classify it as spam, however. Screamingdreaming 14:50, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

Agreed that it's considered something to be avoided. Since this rule seems to have a bit of grey area (in that it's saying normally to be avoided, under what circumstances would it be okay to link there? I would say that maybe the parameters should be whether the artist his/herself is actually a regular presence on their myspace page and said artist is a published one (as in the case of Portishead [1] myspace page. A comparison of Vanessa Daou's and Portishead's respective pages will show that Vanessa obviously has little to do with her page and Porthishead actually updates theirs every now and then. Either way, point taken and no more links to myspace from me. Screamingdreaming 15:06, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

Peer review for Stanley Cup

I think it should be moved to a seperate article if there were other events like those, and if it can go more in-depth about it. If there isn't any or can't be expanded, then I think it should stay. But the problem about that is that the article is the Stanley Cup - not strange events in the finals. So I say if it stays the section should link to the NHL seasons in which they occured. --Hasek is the best 18:35, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

AIV

That's not true, as I've seen it done, and I would think that no constructive edit out of 200 in a year is a bit too far past AGF for my liking. MSJapan 00:50, 21 April 2007 (UTC)

They weren't blocked, the last block had expired. I blocked them for the vandalism edit of Reptile diff. TimVickers 00:52, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
No. I'm perfectly happy to explain my actions. First, why assume good faith now after over a year and a half of bad faith edits, and such a low edit count that they clearly have no intention of contributing positively? Moreover, the talk page is full of nothing but vandalism warnings (all the way back to Dec. '05, so I miscalculated slightly when I said April '06). AGF also states that it does not require that editors continue to assume good faith in the presence of evidence to the contrary, and I saw no reason that the pattern would not resume. Personally, I think if you've given a user over 35 warnings and they've been blocked six times already with around 200 edits, assuming AGF is asking for trouble. MSJapan 01:01, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
No problem, I agreed with your comment EC93, but the user made the point moot by continuing to vandalise! TimVickers 01:12, 21 April 2007 (UTC)

A relatively complex question about editing

Out of curiousity, can a non-admin help clear CSD? Is it OK and acceptable to remove the templates from the pages that don't meet the CSD criteria?

I'll answer your question anyway - I'm pretty sure all deletion functions must be performed by admins. It is OK and acceptable to remove the template, if you intend to fix the article. Furthermore, the speedy delete templates should not be removed by the person who created the article. If you created an article that get nominated for speedy deletion, place the hangon tag at the top of a page along with an explanation why you believe the page should not be deleted on its talk page. Reporting usernames to WP:AIV

Hi Evilclown! When reporting usernames to AIV, please make sure your report does not merely say "Username is a clear violation of the username policy" - please state how it is a violation. Expanded instructions are in point 4 of the green box on the main AIV page. This makes it helpful to admins who are, say, trying to clear an AIV backlog and don't want to have to examine each username individually, and it's also just general good practice. Thanks, and keep up the good work. – Riana 13:11, 29 April 2007 (UTC)

AfD nomination of Sean fluharty

An editor has nominated Sean fluharty, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not"). Hi, Evilclown93. (Scary username, btw). Thanks for volunteering to help. Here is my initial question: If you are working on a new article, is there a safe/private space where you can do that and then release it to the wikipedia when it is in decent shape or is that pretty much against the spirit of collaborative writing? Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Orthodoxy/Sandbox, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Orthodoxy/Sandbox fits the criteria for speedy deletion for the following reason:

page was created here by accident, which has now been userfied

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Orthodoxy/Sandbox, please affix the template hangon to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. --Android Mouse Bot 2 18:17, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

Re your suggestion re: my article "Tip wage credit"

Thank you for your comment/suggestion. After I got my article reasonably well developed last week, I set up the "Tip wage credit" article, then took the text of my draft article from my user page and copied it into the article. Then I deleted the text from my user page. So the only existing text "Tip wage credit" is the text that appears now in the article.

Before doing the cut and paste I looked for Wikipedia:xxx articles on moving pages. I found three. One covers moving/renaming articles in the main space, but had nothing in it about moving pages from User: page into the main space. The other two articles are about correcting cut/paste errors, but seem to be sysop-related, not user-related.

The bottom line, I guess, is to put the question to an administrator (somehow) to see what should be done. I don't think deleting the article is adviseable, since that's the only copy there is. I'm really new to Wikipedia, so do you have any suggestions on how to go about getting administrators involved in setting things right?? K. Kellogg-Smith 18:32, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

Re: my "Tip wage credit" article problem.

My apologies, but it's still not clear to me why my article shouldn't (or can't) stay where it currently is.  My principal concern is losing the edits I've made since I created the article in the main namespace.  If my Talk page edit history is a concern, it seems to me it should be easy to delete my user page edit history from February 26, 2007 through May 17, 2007, since all of that are my edits to my draft.  But other than that by all means, please do go ahead and do whatever Wikipedia policy says needs to be done -- as long as the current version of my article is retained!

Thanks again for all your help.  K. Kellogg-Smith 02:10, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

Editing the RFA table

Could you please wait until the bot comes back, because your edits are messing up the format of the table on other people's userpages. I will not get into a revert war with you on a matter trivial as this. If people want to see what the current status of RFAs are, they can click the links on the tables. However, manual edits like what you are doing messes up the format on people's pages. Miranda 20:39, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

Sure. Sorry for the mess. I was trying to fix it, more probably because the Armedblowfish RfA has changed so much (95% to 67% in a few hours). I was following all the necessary formatting steps, (compared to others), but probably I made a mistake. Evilclown93 20:41, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

Weird concept

Instead of having each person respond on their own talk page, it would be easier for everyone (including you) responding on each other's page. If you reply on your own talk page, and I forget about the conversation, the reply will go unseen. For example, if we were to have a conversation, and I say something on your page and you don't reply on mine, then it will be as if you never responded. Please consider this. Don't make things harder for yourself. Powerfulmind please talk to me! look at all of my edits! 21:02, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

You can alway watch the page. Usually, the button is to right of "move" (move to the right of "history", history to the right of "edit this page".) If you do that, it adds the item to your watchlist, which allows you to track changes to a page. You can clearly see if I've replied. Also, it's easier for me to reply here, so please don't make assumptions like that, because I've used your method, and frankly, I just don't like it. Cheers! Evilclown93 19:03, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

Editor Review

Thanks for the review, I have taken your suggestions on board. I am now using AFD instead of just letting others do it, and I am starting to vote etc and participate. I also have been doing NP patrol for a while, but becuase all my contributions are deleted (the only bad thing about speedying articles) you can't tell.

I have been considering going for an RFA, most likely once I reach 1K edits (I check in query.php or a user script I have). Would you recommend doing this or waiting till I get higher (At this rate, i'm getting several hundred edits per day due to user warnings and speedy tags). I currently have ~700 edits. I turned the remind me about edit summaries thing on several days ago, but it's still taking a while to show up.

I am not the best at major article contributions - almost every topic I know about is already a decent article, and i'm not sure how to improve them further. I have created some decent articles (see USB Decoration for my most recent try) however none have reached GA or FA.

Anyway, thanks again for the review, and I will try to improve in those areas. Matt - TheFearow 22:40, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

Note: Please reply on my talk page. You started a convo there, so I will read replies there. Thanks! Matt - TheFearow 22:41, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

Stephen Barber

Resolved

Why did you delete my contributions to the Stephen Barber page? It was certainly not vandalism to give actual quotes from his books. This is what I actually wrote:

Barber's credentials as a political scientist and historian were called into question after the release of 2002's "Annihilation Zones," in which Barber made patently false claims. In the book, Barber says that Soviet leader Joseph Stalin sodomized Adolf Hitler (page 98) and that Allied General McArther and Japanese Emperor Hirohito had homosexual encounters (page 73). Barber also says that Pol Pot ordered a squadron of 16-year-old girls to insert grenades into their anuses and allow themselves to be sodomized by Lon Nol's troops, which the girls somehow survived, showing their bodies as trophies (page 137). Among other absurd claims, Barber says that "many of the city's [Manilla's] young female population were simultanously sodomized and eaten alive by gangs of [Japanese] soldiers" (page 57).

Now what did I write that is actually not true? Mvblair 14:54, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

I didn't. User:80.47.80.243 vandalised and removed your contributions. I reverted the vandal, but I never reverted you. What happened is that after my initial revert, there was simply more vandalism. I've reverted everything to your final version. Cheers! Evilclown93(talk) 18:57, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

I think you're getting two Stephen Barber's mixed up - the Stephen Barber at London Metropolitan University's Global Policy Institute did not write 'Annihilation Zones' - see references at bottom of page.

OK, thanks for the clarification, EC. I looked at the references, but I got no clarification on whether or not this is the same Stephen Barber. I will look into it. If it's the same fellow, I'll repost my contribution. Mvblair 14:40, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

Inasmuch, inter al., as quotes sections the components of which are unsourced even in the mainspace articles to which they refer are altogether common in featured portals and are generally not disfavored by the community (properly, IMHO), I reverted your excision of the quotes section from the instant portal. I promised in my edit summary to offer an explanation on the portal talk page, and I will offer one soon, but I'm a bit too tired to do it today; I write, then, to assure you that an explanation on the portal talk page is forthcoming, in order that a discussion, if necessary, might be had—I absolutely hate when one makes an edit the edit summary of which says see talk and then neglects, you know, actually to go to write anything on the talk page, and I'm not meaning to do that here. :) Cheers, Joe 06:01, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the comment! You are indeed correct: when I first started doing vandalism reverts, a few months ago, I didn't issue any user warnings. However, since I came back to Wikipedia in May, I've done more to acquaint myself with policy and best practice. martha plimpton

hi evilclown

I edited the martha plimpton assertion that she is single handidly resposible for revitalizing then classic play HEDDA GABLER. This is an OUTRAGEOUS statement and has absolutely zero credibility. HEDDA GABLER has been a popular play for aver 100 years and will continue to be a popular play, with or without Ms. Plimpton's involvement. I have ammended the statemtn to read "some people believe..." although I'd be hard pressed to know who, other than Ms. Plimpton who surely believes this to be the case, thinks this to be anywhere near a truth.

Article vandalism

Hey Evilclown,

I'm pretty new to editing Wikipedia. I've been working on the entry for Petros Papadakis since April or so, and recently there's been quite a bit of vandalism on the page. You reverted one of these incidents. There have been quite a few edits since then that are also obviously vandalism. I'll edit them out, but are there any further steps I can take to monitor vandalism to the page or report users/IP adresses that are vandalizing the page?

Thanks,

Nick (AKA uhalln00)

Thanks for the response and welcome - both were very helpful. --Uhalln00 18:56, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

re: RFAs

To be honest with you, I wasn't really upset by the comment. I switched to neutral on your RFA after you left this messae, and wouldn't have switched to oppose in the first had another user not taken issue with the comment. And to be honest with you, having someone issue a "protest vote" against me was slightly empowering. Black Harry (Highlights|Contribs) 13:58, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

Hi Maxim/Archives. Thank you for your support in my RfA, which passed with 95 support, 1 oppose, and 1 neutral !votes. Your Q8 was nice in that it had a definite answer. It was as though you lobed me a slow pitch knowing that I could knock it out of the park. And it does means a lot to me to have your individual support and the collective support of so many others. The non-notability of the above might have been a mistake. Checking the article's "what links here" shows they played Glastonbury and will be playing T in the Park, although their additions to those articles may be hoaxes. - Dudesleeper · Talk 23:34, 30 June 2007 (UTC)

It's really short, but it puts it in context, and it's notable, so I passed it. If you think otherwise, try WP:AFD. --Evilclown93(talk) 00:19, 1 July 2007 (UTC)

I was going to delete this as a non-notable bio but then I saw who had created it. I really don't think that being lost in the arctic or the father of Zacharias Kunuk is grounds for notability. Getting lost in the arctic is a common enough occurrence. So much so that almost every community in the north has response measures in place for when it happens. It just happens that Kunuk's son is well known so it made the southern papers. Other rescues have also been featured in the south and in a least one case was made into a Readers Digest article. I certainly think that a section could be included in in the Zacharias Kunuk article but I don't think it can stand on its own. Cheers. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 00:30, 1 July 2007 (UTC)

I don't really know what the 60-80 year old group do in the south but up here they go out on the land as long as they are able. I would be surprised to meet an able bodied Inuk of that age group who didn't go out on the land. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 00:41, 1 July 2007 (UTC)
Ah, you have a good point. I may be too close to be objective about this. I've added another category and some links. I'll leave it and see if anybody else comments on it. I also see there is no article for Quassa and he should have one as he was one of the major players in the creation of Nunavut. Cheers. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 00:53, 1 July 2007 (UTC)

Is a Master of a Cambridge College, a Fellow of the Royal Society and a substantial record as a research scientist (i.e. over 300 academic papers) really non-notable? There are numbers of trivial media "personalities" on Wikipedia who deserve deletion before this person. Please reconsider. Thanks, Ian Cairns 01:51, 1 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your reconsideration. I'll go ahead and update. Ian Cairns 01:55, 1 July 2007 (UTC)

Your deletion of The Webb Schools

I see that you deleted this article as spam, apparently as a speedy delete, probably due to the latest serial speedy delete request from IP user User:69.228.127.243 or User:69.228.127.244.

This article had its problems, but it was not SPAM. This pair of California schools clearly qualify as "notable," and the article had existed for a long time, with contributions from many different users. I have no independent knowledge of this school, but got involved with the article due to its close connection with Webb School of Knoxville and Webb School (Bell Buckle, Tennessee), which are in my state. The article has vacillated back and forth between reasonably objective content and promotional blather from a brochure. I personally have rewritten some of the possibly-plagiarized content, corrected errors, and added sources to the article (but I did not fix the entire article). I also removed two speedy-delete tags from the article and reverted this IP user's repeated deletion of sourced information about a notable alumnus.

I am distressed that my handiwork in this article was summarily deleted, and respectfully request its restoration. --orlady 04:35, 1 July 2007 (UTC)

Hi! I notice you removed the copyvio speedy deletion tags from Michael Joseph Owens and Robert W. Gore. However, these are clearly blatant copyright violations. The editor who contributed the article erroneously believed that factual narratives lacked copyright protection. While he is correct that the underlying facts themselves may not have copyrith protection, a narrative that strings them together is protected under the law. If you have any questions on this concept, don't hesitate to hit me up on my talk page. And congrats on your recent promotion! -- But|seriously|folks  14:25, 1 July 2007 (UTC)

In the interest of fairness to this user, your block notice linked to vandalism, and your block comment linked to sock puppetry, but I believe the block was actually for 3RR.

I support the block itself, but you might wish to correct the history to accurately reflect the situation.

I'm assuming this was an accident on your part, however if there was a reason to obfuscate the links and comments then feel free to ignore this msg. Peace.Lsi john 20:24, 1 July 2007 (UTC)

Sicko controversies

Why did you protect the page? My notice was placed on the 3rr board. Not that protecting the page bothers me (in fact it gives everyone a little break, which is good), but I don't see it having any effect on the underlying problem. Which of course is the user who reverts any changes made to the page. I have a feeling that as soon as the page is unprotected, user will start reverting the page back to his or her preferred version. User who created the page doesn't use the talk page looking for consensus or real input so it seems that your decision to protect the page is just prolonging the situation. Anyway, it looks like there is consensus to merge the page so maybe it won't be such an issue in a few days. Thanks for trying to help and I know that you are a new admin. so I just thought I would give you my thoughts. Cheers. Turtlescrubber 21:35, 1 July 2007 (UTC)

  • Page protection is often used as a means for cooling off the situation without having to punish anyone. (especially since 3rr blocks are preventative, not punitive). In quite a few cases, simply protecting the page for a day or so stops the edit warring. Blocking can cause long term hard feelings, resulting in even more animosity later. Bottom line - judgment call. Peace.Lsi john 21:44, 1 July 2007 (UTC)

Please, review the 3RR report for PANONIAN, there are new developments. Mr. Neutron 23:37, 1 July 2007 (UTC)

I've seen it. I'm blocking neither of you for now. --Evilclown93(talk) 23:38, 1 July 2007 (UTC)
Four reverts were committed on July 1st on Ahtum and Sermon (ruler), and Panonian keeps reverting. For previous version, take "his" version from the 30th of June,. Mr. Neutron 23:39, 1 July 2007 (UTC)
He's unsure of the rule. Also, can please not ask me to take action in private. Trying to exert a false air of authority can get you into big trouble. Evilclown93(talk) 23:41, 1 July 2007 (UTC)
He has been blocked for 3RR before, see his log. Then second, you got involved in the case afterall. Third, he did indeed break 3RR, not even by committing more than 3 reverts in 24 hours, but also by gaming it through excessive reverts. Please review the rule. Posted on 3RR rule violation page. Mr. Neutron 23:45, 1 July 2007 (UTC)

Islam

I don't think full protection is appropriate yet for Islam. It's still linked from the Main Page. Please take it back down to semi. -- ChrisO 00:32, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

Islam protection

See WP:AN#Islam_Fully-Protected_while_being_ToFA. The Islam article is technically not off the Main Page yet and some may object to the protection. I'm not saying that you're wrong, but you may want to comment in the section (or at some other appropriate location). -- tariqabjotu 00:37, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

Never mind. Let the games begin continue. -- tariqabjotu 00:38, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

I've amended the featured article section to exclude Islam, because it's very volatile (ANI posts suggest a future wheel war) on the grounds of WP:IAR. What should be done next with the article? Full-protection? Evilclown93(talk) 00:48, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

That seemed like a good idea, but I would probably revert that change. Within the next ten minutes, someone's going to say, "wait a second, wasn't Islam on the Main Page yesterday?" Ignoring all rules in highly-visible locations tend to lead to that... I personally didn't think the protection on the article was a big deal. -- tariqabjotu 00:52, 2 July 2007 (UTC)
I never really answered your question... it looks like most editors by now have gotten the message regarding edit warring while the article's on the Main Page. So, it might be just fine with the semi-protection. -- tariqabjotu 01:24, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for protecting the page. I've been involved in this a bit, blocking one user and warning others for 3RR...I threatened to protect it myself, but didn't really expect to have to until one of the editor's block was up...guess they couldn't wait that long before going to battle again. You'd think they were trying to refight the battle, rather than just write about it. Since this has appeared at ANI and the 3RR board, there are now at least 3 admins, including you and I, who've taken action in this fray. I think it is important that we all, as neutral, outside parties, make sure we're not stepping on each others' toes. So, to that end, I wanted to let you know that I posted a fairly stern comment to all parties involved on the article's talk page, with the primary point being that it is essential to reach consensus, no matter how long it takes. I don't always like being so stern, and when I do have to, I like to check my own actions against another admin's views, as a matter of neutrality and accountability. So, if you wouldn't mind, please check my comments there and see if they are in line with your own views of how this should proceed, since you issued the protect. Thanks! Block of BassxForte

Evilclown, I think your block of BassxForte (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) is way too long. The previous two week block was for 3RR, disruptive editing, and an unwillingness to follow consensus, but you gave him 31 days for a single 3RR violation. This isn't in line with typical procedure to handle 3RR's by graduated increases in block times (12, 24, 36, 48 hours, whatever). I think 72 hours would be more appropriate under these circumstances.--Chaser - T 00:55, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

He was recently released from a 2 week block... My choice was indef or a month. --Evilclown93(talk) 01:09, 2 July 2007 (UTC)... or two weeks. Someone needs to tell that guy to keep from revert-warring on that same "Organization" article, though - Alison 01:17, 2 July 2007 (UTC)
You need a community consensus to block indef. See WP:BAN#Community_ban. I think Alison's proposal for two weeks is at least more reasonable. You can reply here.--Chaser - T 01:19, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

Deletion of C. A. Shah page

You have very quickly deleted this page C.A. Shah without allowing anyone the chance to defend the existence of this page. Pages are sometimes created of people important to the history of a society, with only basic information initially and information added later.

The individual about whom this page is, is important because:

  1. He was a long - time member of the Legislative Council of Fiji
  2. He was one of the founding member of the oldest political party in Fiji
  3. He was a member of the executive council which advised the Governor on national affairs
  4. He attended constitutional conference in London twice to lead Fiji towards democracy
  5. He was one of the first members of independent Fiji's House of Representatives.
  6. He was a leader of the largest farmers' union in Fiji

Can you help me out again. Michael Joseph Owens is an article I wrote based on info at the link provided. I have another user adding copyright violations to my biographies. You removed one of his tags before. He keeps deleting them as speedy but then no one else gets to decide. They are all based on his, IMHO, flawed decision. Infusion Software Deleted

Can you help me understand why Infusion Software was deleted? I attempted to copy the format of other CRM software company pages, unbiased, objective information, yet it was still deleted. Also, is there any way to bring back the deleted page, edit it to fix it, and restore it? Or will I have to retype it from scratch?

Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tgarns (talkcontribs)

Curious

I am curious as to why my page for John L. Bouchard was deleted. The statement was made that he was "non-notable (A7)". I am curious as to what is considered notable if a PUBLISHED author is not? I linked to a page (http://www.publishedauthors.net/johnbouchard/bio.html )citing him as published with two books. What can I do to get this reconsidered. Was the site not trustworthy? Are his books not "adult" enough to be considered noteworthy? Some clarification would be appreciated. Another option is that I somehow did not link correctly or something. Please advise.

Thanks defcyouth

Deletion of MoBlock

I am curious as to why you felt MoBlock should have been deleted, and also if there was even any discussion for such an action. I created the page and I'm certain I had it in my watchlist, yet there was no indication of any discussion on the talk page. Your reasoning was "Very short article providing little or no context"... well, that could have been worked on had you taken the time to begin a discussion. — Sam 15:02, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

...And I'm not sure what just happened, but the article has been spontaneously restored apparently... — Sam 15:05, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

You recently deleted the article as a recreation of a deleted article. It... well, it kind of was, but it had previously lived in the main space, then deleted, then I restored it and moved it to my userspace, then it was moved back when it looked like some new sources had come up. That didn't quite pan out (I didn't have anything to do with the move), but I just wanted to drop you a note to say that I've restored and moved the article again. If you could, watch the deletion history to see if there are alternatives to deletion; a deleted article cannot be worked on anymore, whereas a userfied article can. Thanks! Category deletion

I notice that you have deleted a couple of categories (such as Category:Classics) but that you have missed the category tags in the individual articles. This does not exactly delete the category itself, as the page still functions as a category. While the category page does not contain any text, articles with the category tag will still appear in the deleted category page. See, for example, Category:1801 in music. In the future, when you delete a category, could you also remove the links from the individual articles and subcategories in the category? Thank you, Dr. Submillimeter 16:10, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

Removal of speedy deletion tags

Please don't remove speedy deletion tags without any explanation as you did to The Bacterium, The Bell Tolls, Doctor and The Street's End. These nonsense articles are now stuck on Wikipedia for several days for no good reason. Miremare 18:12, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

Evilclown is an admin, so he regularly reviews speedy deletion tags. Those appear to not meet the criterion for patent nonsense and should not be tagged as nonsense or deleted as nonsense. Hoaxes are not patent nonsense. Leebo T/C 18:19, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
Apart from having no meaningful content you mean? Anyway being an admin does not excuse anyone from edit summaries - quite the opposite I would have thought. Miremare 18:25, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
Meaningful in this sense means "is it coherent". Yes, the articles are not random strings of characters or jumbles of words with no grammatical structure. If it can be read and understood as English (or another language) it's not nonsense per this criterion. It may be untrue, but that's not what the criterion is for. Evilclown's edit summaries indicate that he opted for another method of the deletion process, because speedy deletion was not applicable. That's acceptable. Leebo T/C 18:30, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
Well, he could make that clearer is what I mean. Also some discretion on what's acceptable for speedy deletion wouldn't go amiss, as previous hoax Dr. Who articles (there have been quite a few, mostly from the same users) have been speedied successfully. Miremare 19:34, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
Frustration with hoax articles and the inadequacy of speedy deletion to handle them is understandable. I try to promote strict application of the nonsense criterion, which is why I jumped in and commented here. I ranted about it recently too, so it's been on my mind. Leebo T/C 19:42, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

You removed a speedy tag without explanation on an image that has been deleted over and over and over and over again as not meeting criteria for fair use, and outright copyright violation. If you are, indeed, an admin you should know that other admins know what they are doing when they delete such images and you should not overrule them. Or, if you disagree, try to give an actual rationale instead of just undoing the edit as if you were some mere vandal. I put the tag back. Perhaps someone with more experience will deal with the image now. DreamGuy 21:37, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

I think it can handle. Thank you for your concern.

I write in contravention of your header, but inasmuch as my concern is not strictly about a deletion but, instead, about your reply to a query on your deletion noticeboard, you will, I hope, indulge me. An editor objected to your deletion of the instant page as an expired PROD, and you replied that you thought the PROD justification to have been quite right (you are, to be sure, to be commended for having actually reviewed the article before simply deleting to ensure that the proposed deletion justification wasn't entirely frivolous; too many close expired PRODs pro forma) and consequently would take no further action. Because the justification for deletion included no assertion of notability, you might mean to suggest that this was A7able, but you would probably do well to state the explicitly, inasmuch as, as you are surely aware, a retroactively contested PROD is to be immediately restored, irrespective of the reason for contesting or the identity of he who contests retroactively (except, I suppose, where he/she is banned or is indisputably acting disruptively). Unless, then, you believe that your deletion was consistent with A7 (in which case I imagine it might be helpful for you to cite A7 on your deletion noticeboard in order that the editor objecting to deletion might know to proceed to DRV if he/she wants to contest deletion further), you ought probably to undelete straightaway, with the provision, of course, that you may list immediately at AfD (as well might be in order; I have absolutely no opinion on the encyclopedic worth of the article, and I mean only to offer a gentle reminder that articles deleted by PROD [though not by speedy, generally] are to be undeleted immediately upon the request of [almost] any editor). Joe 19:42, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

just happened by, and I learned the first few weeks as an admin that in general sending anything other than utter rubbish to AfD if there was argument about whether or not a prod or a hangon was justified was simpler, quicker, and showed that others would support my deletion--which is the best answer to good faith complaints. And keep up the good work in clearing prod! The better it works the more it will be used. DGG (talk) 21:23, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

Battle of Washita River unprotected without notice

Greetings,

A few days ago you put full protection on the article Battle of Washita River due to an ongoing edit war. Currently at least some of us are -- or at least I am -- attempting to conduct research to resolve outstanding disputes on this page. But I just noticed now that some edits have been made to the article itself, & that the article has apparently been unprotected, despite a protection notice still being present on the page. Question

I'm not quite sure whether there has been some kind of misunderstanding or something, but I'm rather confused by your deletion summary "Wimt messed up" here. The deletion and restoration of that page that I made was done before we realised the editor was a Molag sock and was done to remove personal information (a phone number) left by a vandalising editor here. Now if you still think I messed up in some way, feel free to tell me but I would very much appreciate it if you didn't go around leaving deletion summaries like that and not even talking to me about it. It strikes me as rather unhelpful. Will (aka Wimt) 15:56, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

I thought you tried to remove all but one revision... I'm sorry. I should have picked a better summary, like "deleting more revisions". Клоун 16:25, 9 July 2007 (UTC)
No worries - but yeah in future that would be a better summary to use. Regards. Will (aka Wimt) 16:37, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

Templates for deletion

Hello Evilclown93. I noticed that you closed the deletion discussion on the Doctor Who templates and deleted them per the consensus. There were two added to the list after the main set were nominated but were noted further down on the page. They are:

Template:Black Guardian television stories (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
Template:Slitheen television stories (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)

Those of us that commented after they were put in wanted them deleted also so if you could take care of this it would be much appreciated. Hi, thanks for taking care of the prod backlog (I'm left with nothing to do, grrr). I couldn't help but noticing that you are leaving deletion summaries like "Prod left uncontested for five days". That would be great if you put the prod reason instead. Prod is not a reason for deletion, just a process, and that allows non admins to know why an article was deleted, as stated in the guidelines. Thanks again! -- lucasbfr talk 00:01, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

Yeah I know, to be honest there is just no reason, That's probably a question on when the script is executed when the page loads (it detects the expired prod template, but I assume that it runs sometimes before the page is loaded). That's why I stopped using it ^^. Now, I'm just using the little delete link you can find on all expired prods (near the "Expired WP:PROD" text). That's faster and doesn't rely on javascript at all :). -- lucasbfr talk 09:15, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

Hi, Evilclown93, Recently you deleted the Evolve Cars page, under Criteria A7. While it was a stub, I don't believe that it "didn't assert the significance". In my opinion, this is a notable company (because of its appearances in Automobile Magazine[4], Motor Trend[5] and European Car Mag[6]). In my opinion, this is a notable subject, especially considering a Google search of the terms Evolve cars+"volvo" returned 1,710,000 results. I appreciate your review of this case. DreamGuy my response to those who have commented on this user's blocking

(Posted also on individual talk pages) Thank you to Bishonen, LessHeard vanU, Hamster Sandwich, Lsi john, Butseriouslyfolks, Pascal.Tesson & Evilclown93 for taking an interest in this matter. I appreciate the views you have provided and understand them all to be in good faith. I detail the following comments for historical purposes:

  1. For the record I do not get upset by comments made towards me on wikipedia. If you feel that I have, those feelings are incorrect, and I wish to go on the record as saying that I do not have any personal issue with or feelings against DreamGuy in any way.
  2. People will have different views on edit-warring. That was absolutely neither my intention nor, in my view a reflection of my actions in regards to Image:Daredevil46.jpg. DreamGuy placed a tag initially [7] on July 5th that said, This images has been deleted probably some 20 times now under various names.... no fair use, not cover art that was used as cover, needs a speedy delete as recreation of deleted image, and the guy who keeps uploading it needs to get blocked so he knows not to pull this crap.... I mean, seriously, how many times do we have to delete this thing, he's just stubbornly refusing to listen.
I assume as a part of his admin role Evilclown93 removed that tag as detailed here.
Dream Guy's reply (unknown to me at the time) was to suggest that Evilclown93 was a sock of the uploader.
It was only a few days later that I, also as a part of my admin role came across the speedy delete request and confronted with the above rationale, agreed with Evilclown93 views and removed the request stating in my edit notice: reverted edits by DreamGuy to that of Evilclown93 - who is not a "sock" but an admin. Pls use only correct speedy tags before replacing (if at all).
A further four days later, again just as a part of my admin role (see history of my admin work for that day) I came across the renewed speedy request, again with the above rationale. Confronted by no more information, I removed the speedy noting in the edit summary: Speedy deletion tag removed - awaiting a NPOV request that retains civility! You will note that I was talking about the content of the speedy deletion tag request of which I considered words such as the guy who keeps uploading it needs to get blocked so he knows not to pull this crap.... to be misplaced, no matter the frustration felt by Dream Guy. I then left the matter.
DreamGuy it appears renewed his request again and without alteration at which point Butseriouslyfolks removed it, it was renewed and then Butseriouslyfolks put it up at WP:FUR.
I came across it a day later and after I had left an adjusted canned message (which as most of you know includes a welcome to wikipedia line) on DreamGuy's talk page that also said, politely, Please assume good faith in relation to tagging an image for Speedy Delete. The reason that two (and now 3 admins) did not agree with your tag was made more and more obvious to you. Quite simply your request was polluted with a non-neutral POV and did not nothing to assist us in attending to the request. Please do not continue to suggest speedy deletion in this method - no matter what editor is frustrating you with their additions as it belittles your otherwise good work. Keep editing! My warning therefore was in relation to his edit-warring with three admins who did not agree with his method.
  3. In relation to blocking ... Following the posting at WP:FUR - at which I note Dream Guy has commented, he still reverted Butseriouslyfolks' removal of the speedy tag, even after Butseriouslyfolks wrote in his edit summary, Let's discuss it first, please?. Finding another reversion, despite an ongoing request at WP:FUR and noting that DreamGuy has been warned before and blocked before, and most importantly that whatever any admin did DreamGuy would revert, I blocked him for a period which I considered at the time to be commensurate with his previous block and the continued reversions. To the extent that others consider that amount of time excessive I thank you, and particularly to Pascal.Tesson for his revision of the time line.
  4. I note the comments above that in the opinion of an other editor Dream Guy is not the most polite individual on wikipedia, but he damned sure isn't the most acrid either and I agree totally. Whilst DreamGuy may not be able to accept that my message to him as detailed above was positive - I reiterate here again for all and sundry that I believe he is an otherwise good editor that was confronted by enormous frustration over the image he has been trying to delete. HOWEVER my job as I understand it is to assist in the protection of wikipedia. For those edits that relate to this matter - in my opinion DreamGuy needed to be blocked so that the process of deletion or otherwise of this image could be dealt with, without having to battle his continuing nose thumbing at the Good Faith decisions being made - especially with regards listing the matter at WP:FUR.
  5. I should end by also indicating that my becoming unavailable at the time I did had everything to do with it being 2.00am in the morning at my location (bed and pillow beckoned) and no other reasoning.

Again thank you all for your comments. Please let me know if anything at all needs further explaining. With best wishes --VS talk 02:05, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

Blocking ISP proxies

Do not issue schoolblocks unless you are 100% sure you're dealing with an education IP address. The following IP is an ISP proxy server as far as I can tell. 203.27.231.250 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log) --  Netsnipe  ►  12:33, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

Hi Evilclown. I've checked his talk page, and I think you should consider his second unblock request (it seems valid to me, upon quick perusal). In any case, I will try and talk to him when he is unblocked (or maybe now, I don't know)...but I should point out that we haven't spoken in a few weeks. We shall see. Anyway, thanks for the notice, Giggy UCP 01:46, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

Hi, you protected this page after deleting a copyvio biography of the band. I had to go to DRV last month to get it unprotected; I just haven't moved my mockup (User:Chubbles1212/Powerspace) over to mainspace yet, and I'd hate to have to go and do that again because some idiot posted a copyvio. Could you please remove the protection template? Chubbles 14:27, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

Glenn Ulrich

I have been "talking" to nickelshoe about an article I did about Glenn Ulrich. He said I should contact you to get the article reinstated since you have deleted it already. Nickelshoe tought I was personally involved with Glenn and I am not I assure you. I explained everything to him. I am a fan of BODYSLAM Wrestling and I thought an article should be done about Glenn. I have met him and his family at shows but that is all. I got all of the information from what is said at the BODYSLAM Wrestling shows, their programs and on line. Glenn is mentioned on several websites including the doiwrestling.com, wrestlingclothesline.com and he was on 1wrestling.com in their chatterbox column. I know he is listed in several wrestling news websites as well. You could get information from his bio page at http://www.squaredcircleentertainment.com/bwoownerglen.html and I am sure many other sites. Glenn is the youngest owner and promoter of a wrestling company in the history of american professional wrestling. I also found out that Glenn is the youngest member in the history of the famed Cauliflower Alley Club. That is an elite club of some of wrestling's best including Vince McMahon, Harley Race and Roddy Piper. Please tell me whaat you would need me to provide for you to reinstate the article.

Hey, so there's been some discussion on the talk page for this article about its issues. Is there any way you'd care to pipe in on the discussion so we can get the article unblocked at some point? Cheers! Murderbike 18:07, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

Ha, hey there Murderbike, you had the same idea. Evilclown93, it seems as if one of the big problems for both HanzoHattori & Custerwest is in understanding the fundamental content policies of Wikipedia like WP:NPOV, WP:NOR, & WP:V. I just wrote a lengthy reply at Talk:Battle of Washita River to Custerwest addressing a post he wrote in terms of these three policies, & I thought it might be helpful to have an admin eye to also take a look at it. I'm not asking for comment on our disagreements about article content -- just on the policies & was I accurate in my description of how they should be used. Any help would be appreciated. Is there anything I missed that he (& I!) should know? --Yksin
Copyright violation. I just discovered that the entirety of the third paragraph of the section of this article called "October to November, 1868" beginning with "The Indians believed they had good bargaining chips" is a quotation from this article (about halfway down at Historynet. com. At the very least, this is a lengthy quote that, while its source is attributed, isn't marked as a quote. I'm pretty sure that this edit was done by Custerwest, though I haven't yet found the diff; I'm not so worried about pointing fingers, though, than in addressing the copyvio, either by removing the offending paragraph or at least putting it in quotation marks. Since the article's blocked from editing, we need admin assistance. This is also discussed here. on Thanks. I'm also alerting User:Akradecki, in case you're not around. --Yksin 00:41, 17 July 2007 (UTC) Update. Here's the diff of when Custerwest added this. --Yksin 00:52, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

Deletion

Hi, Evilclown93, Recently you deleted the Evolve Cars page, under Criteria A7. While it was a stub, I don't believe that it "didn't assert the significance". In my opinion, this is a notable company (because of its appearances in Automobile Magazine[8], Motor Trend[9] and European Car Mag[10]). In my opinion, this is a notable subject, especially considering a Google search of the terms Evolve cars+"volvo" returned 1,710,000 results. I appreciate your review of this case. I would appreciate a response on this. Thank you. —Curran (talk | contibs | random) 15:54, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

My RfA

Thank you for your support in my successful RfA. I appreciate the trust you and the WP community have in me. Thanks for the kind words. Carlossuarez46 22:24, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

  • I have already deleted my first article - my personal biggest irk is the attack pages, and I swatted one within a few hours of my new "powers". Perhaps I should go into poetry, then again... Carlossuarez46 23:09, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

DYK Sam Lichtenhein

Please review WP:CSD#G4 which does not cover speedy deletions nor versions that were substantially rewritten. Please undelete the article and nominate it for deletion if you want it deleted. --W.marsh 16:34, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Sorry W.marsh. I'm fully aware of the criteria, I simply made a mistake. Evilclown93 16:38, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
Alright, thanks for reversing it. Sorry if I came off too harshly. --W.marsh 16:39, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Hey....I read those comments :P

So watch out...it might be considered er...canvassing. But thanks for the very kind words anyway! Giggy UCP 22:14, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

It was a joke :P If that's canvassing, we're all going to hell...Anyway, I got the email and will respond there. Giggy UCP 22:20, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Deletion of Maxim Mayorov

I was in the process of deleting the prod tag from Maxim Mayorov when you deleted it... It seems to meet the notability criteria of WP:BIO from playing in the fully professional league Vysshaya Liga. I'd recreate it from my log, but I'm on a public terminal (real user: User:Fordan, so could I ask you to undelete it? 206.16.237.13 01:18, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Thank you! - Fordan (talk) 02:18, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Funnily enough, having seen that FIIH would be the FA on 19 July, I was reworking the main page blurb to make the article the ice hockey portal selected article for July (and August) and moving Brodeur to selected bio and found that you'd already taken care of it (although it took me a while to realize that you were the former Evilclown, even as I'd just yesterday seen your request at CHU/U—I am, after all, rather slow); good on ya. I will, btw, return the quotes once I have created pages for at least the next two months; I hope to have the selected article, image, and bio and DYK and quotes through at least the end of August ready directly, and I'll write you sometime soon in order that we might discuss plans for the portal thereafter. Hope all is well, Joe 03:36, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

AWF - HEY!

I was in the middle of fixing this up, and you deleted it! That's not fair! Australian wrestling sources are hard to find! Please restore this article! Mad Dog Dunstan 04:08, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

I have to concur with this, even though Mad Dog Dunstan hasn't been promoting himself too well. He is new here. But he's right - five days isn't long enough. The deletion must be reversed to allow the time required. If you wouldn't mind. Mal Case 05:25, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
Maxim, FYI: I've recommended for Mal Case to actually merge the AWF article & the Greg Bownds article because they are related. The AWF info will need to be re-created and referenced properly. I don't believe that the AWF can stand alone, it is better that it is added with a re-direct to the "owner" Greg Bownds. Again, I feel as though the AWF article will be deleted again if it stands alone, there is simply not enough meat for the stew. Mal Case, make sure to check that Mad Dog saved the article for his/her sandbox as I recommended at the beginning. Hellswasteland 13:22, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

Online

Hey, you said on my talk page to send diffs to you if you are online. How do you tell if a user is online?

Also, I posted my peer review for Ray Emery. Good luck! Z1720 05:51, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

User:XAndreWx, who's 3RR block you removed on User:Giggy's request has gone on to follow the exact same pattarn of behaviour - at least six times since you unblocked him.

I have raised another WP:3RR over here User:XAndreWx reported by User:Sprigot

Furthermore I believe that he has also resorted to sock puppeteering - and have raised a sock puppet notification over here Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets/XAndreWx‎

I look forward to your response regarding the flagrant attitude to your kind revokation of XAndreWx's block for 3RR.

VandalProof problems

Hi Maxim, I noticed your comment on Daniel's talk page about the internet explorer script error, I had exactly the same problem but its easily solved, see this. Cheers, – Rlest 17:47, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Mhh, it often crashes for a few seconds for me when going through the RC, it goes slow sometimes as well; I'm not sure exactly but i use Mozilla Firefox if that makes a difference. :) Rlest 20:31, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Hi, sorry that you didn't understand my comment. I was just suggesting we rephrase the hook a bit, as it seemed strange that that was what he was "most" known for (it could be something like: "...that Sam Lichtenhein suffered fires which burned..."), as others might know him "most" for, say, changing hockey from a seven- to a six-person game (which would also be an interesting hook). In other words, I was trying to make it more objective in phrasing. There's no reason the hook needs to specifically hockey-related, the main point is to be interesting, which his bad luck with fires is. Unfortunately, nobody suggested a variation, and nobody picked it, which is too bad because I thought it was interesting and met our criteria. Had I been updating at the time, I probably would have tried to think of a better phrasing and used it; however, for whatever reason it wasn't chosen by the editors who were updating on that day. Unfortunately, it has now passed the five-day limit, so it is no longer eligible. It is often a good idea to check back with T:TDYK to make sure that there weren't suggestions that needed to be addressed, since there is a time limit (to keep them "Wikipedia's newest articles." I'm sorry your article wasn't chosen, but please nominate your next article! Rigadoun (talk) 17:53, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Bot blocked

I sent half of them on Tuesday, and am sending the other half today. If you can show me anywhere where users received it twice, let me know; otherwise, I'll unblock and continue. Ral315 » 19:37, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

I'm still not seeing anyone who's received it twice. I sent through JoshuaZ on Tuesday, and today, manually removed A-JoshuaZ. Ral315 » 19:42, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
AHA! I know why. You were renamed, so two days ago you appeared as "Evilclown93", and this time, you appeared as "Maxim", and got it twice. This only happened to you, as far as I know. Ral315 » 19:46, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Deletion query

Regarding: 16:28, 1 August 2007 Maxim (Talk | contribs) deleted "Houlihan Lokey Howard & Zukin" (CSD A7 (Bio): Biographical article that does not assert significance)
Houlihan Lokey Howard & Zukin is linked to the existing Wikipedia article "List of Investment Banks" http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/List_of_investment_banks and is also indicated in http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Perella_Weinberg_Partners
The proposed content was written parallel to the other organizations under "List of Investment Banks" - can you please help me understand what process wikipedia needs to meet editorial approval?
I read the policy and included citations at this link:
http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User:HoulihanLokey/Houlihan_Lokey_Howard_%26_Zukin
Can you please explain how it can be included on the main page for Houlihan Lokey Howard & Zukin?

When it's written by someone else, and not associated with the bank, as your username implies. Please read WP:COI. Maxim 19:07, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

Who wrote the articles that are linked from the page http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/List_of_investment_banks? Can I request an article from whomever approved those articles to contribute further to the Houlihan Lokey Howard & Zukin page?

Deletion query

Maxim - On July 6th you deleted the page 'Credit Action'. I am wondering if you could give me an explanation as to why this action was taken. Cheers. Tappyea2 15:14, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

It was blatant advertising, which is allowed to be deleted on sight per this policy, and more specifically this criterion. Hope that helps! Maxim 23:55, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

Ok thanks for explanation. However I would question whether it was in fact blatant advertising. It didn't promote any services or company. Credit Action is a charity which does financial education, the main aim of the article was simply informative as to what the charity does and given that the content was entirely factual I don't see what the problem is. I merely added because I thought it could be useful to people looking for a charity which did this kind of work. I would like you to consider reinstating the article as I'm really not sure it does fall foul of the criteria you mention. Thanks. Tappyea2 11:41, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

Deletion of Epic Legend of the Hierarchs: The Elemenstor Saga

Hello, I noticed that you deleted Legend of the Hierarchs: The Elemenstor Saga. First, I think it is more conducive to community process to nominate an article for AfD before deleting it, even if you're an administrator, because I think sufficient points would have been made for it to not be deleted. Second, I agree that ELOTH:TES is not notable simply because it is associated with Penny Arcade. However, it is notable because it is one of the first documented instances of of spontaneous community development and a precusor to player generated content, and it is referenced in other notable articles, such as TerraDrive Live. 66.212.78.46 17:43, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

Check out the proposed deletion policy. It was proposed for deletion, and because nobody objected during five days, I deleted it per policy. However, I agree with the reasoning, and I am unwilling to restore it.The venue for requesting for a deletion to be overturned is DRV (Deletion Review).

Glenn Ulrich

I had been talking with Nickelshoe about the page I posted about Glenn Ulrich. She thought I may have had a conflict of iterest but I explained everything and she now knows I do not have a conflict of interest. In the meantime evilclown93 deleted the article and Nickelshoe said I need to contact him to have it reinstated. I have written to evilclown but have not had a response. Now when I write to evilclown I am reditrected to you. Please have the page about Glenn Ulrich reinstated.

I am a wrestling fan and a fan of BODYSLAM Wrestling. Glenn is the youngest professional wrestling owner and promoter in the history of professional wrestling. I also found out at the last show that he is a member of the famed cauliflower alley club whose members include Roddy Piper and Vince McMahon. I can get more links for you. I know he has been written about on wrestlingclothesline.com and doiwrestling.com. Would you need me to provide other links to information about Glenn? I could change the link from the BODYSLAM Wrestling website to the bio section that is just about him if that would be better than the general website itself. I have met Glenn and his family at the shows so I know who they are but I am not friends with them other than at the shows. I only know what is said at the shows and written about in the programs or on the web. When I did the article I looked at other wrestler's articles like Harley Race and Roddy Piper and tried to include similar sections. Should I have left out his personal information?

Please advise me how to get this undeleted. He is currently running one of if not the most successful wrestling promotion in the northeastern United States and have partnes around the world.

--Joseph Doe 17:30, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

The reasoning (prod), (see entry 2 above, very similar situation) was Fails WP:BIO, reads like a copyvio, not an article. I agree. I suggest Deletion review. BTW, sorry for not responding to you, I accidentally archived the discussion without a reply, and Evilclown was me, but I got renamed. : ) Maxim 23:55, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

Why Thank You!

Omigosh

I just about fell off my chair laughing after seeing your block message on someone I'd been warning, lol. It isn't often something I read makes me actually laugh out loud, so you get the "Ariel Giggles!" Award! Kudos for making your point, and doing it in a friendly way! ArielGold 15:28, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

I'd love to see more admins use messages like that. I personally like to use the boxes I've made, they convey less "authority/negativity" when warning someone, and it is my hope that they show humor, and perhaps the offender will turn around and become a contributing member! It is so hard to convey intent in words alone, so while some people may hate the "boxes" style of notices, I like them and ultimately hope it shows intent better than the plain templates do. :) Cheers!
