Thank you for your participation in the April 2010 GAN backlog elimination drive

[edit]
GAN backlog elimination drives chart up to 1 May

On behalf of my co-coordinator Wizardman, I'd like to especially thank you for your efforts over this past month's GAN backlog elimination drive. It has been nothing short of a complete success, which hopefully results in more expedient good article reviews, increasing users' confidence in the good article nomination processes. Even if you made just a small contribution, it still helped contribute to the success of this drive. Here is what we have accomplished this last month in this drive.

  • 661 total nominations were reviewed. 541 of them passed (~81.8%), 97 (~14.7%) failed, and 23 (~3.5%) ended on hold.
  • The WP:GAN page started at 110,126 bytes length on 1 April and ended at 43,387 bytes length at the end of 30 April (a 66,739 byte reduction in the page, about 60.6% less).
  • Excluding extremes, the longest wait for someone's GAN to be review was about 11.5 weeks at the beginning. (I mistook the figure when I reported to the Signpost that it was 13.) At the end, with the exception of one that was relisted, the longest wait is now at 10 days.
  • 63 different users participated, each having completed at least one GAN, with others also having helped out behind-the-scenes in making the drive a success.
  • The drive started with 463 GA nominations remaining and 388 unreviewed. At the end of the month, we ended with 89 remaining (374 or about 80.8% less) and 47 unreviewed (341 or about 87.9% less).

For those who have accomplished certain objectives in the drive, awards will be coming shortly. Again, thank you for your help in the drive, and I hope you continue to help review GA nominations and overall improve the quality of articles here on Wikipedia.

Degrassi: The Next Generation

[edit]

Hi Matthewedwards - Are you still working on the FAR for Degrassi: The Next Generation? A few concerns about fair-use images have been raised and need to be resolved, as well as some prose and overlinking concerns. It would be great to see the final touches put on the article so that it can be kept at FAR - that is always the goal! Dana boomer (talk) 01:33, 11 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Oops, to be honest I'd forgotten about it. I haven't been around much in the last two or three weeks. I'll see what the new comments are right now... Matthewedwards :  Chat  22:21, 11 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I proposed the question, original channel means the channel that airs it first, right? 117Avenue (talk) 00:31, 12 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I wouldn't mention The N in the infobox as an original broadcaster. Yes, they did air some episodes before CTV; but the series is produced for CTV, by CTV, etc etc. I know that The N/TeenNick does have some minor influence into the production of the series, but the majority is from CTV. Just because a foreign broadcaster managed to put the episodes on air before the home network, doesn't mean it's not a CTV-original. (See also Law & Order: UK, which was premiered in Canada and Ireland for a lot of the episodes, before they finally aired on ITV. No one would deny that it's an ITV original.) Matthewedwards :  Chat  00:45, 12 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I know that it is made by CTVglobemedia, and it says right at the beginning of every episode that it is a CTV Original (meaning CTVglobemedia, not the channel). But the term in the infobox is original channel, how can it say CTV when it no longer airs on CTV (the channel)? 117Avenue (talk) 05:41, 12 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I'm aware of the difference between CTV Television Network and CTVglobemedia. It aired on CTV for 9 years. Of course CTV is the original channel. It should say CTV and MuchMusic, just like the articles for Smallville and 7th Heaven say The WB and The CW, and Buffy says The WB and UPN. Matthewedwards :  Chat  14:41, 12 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That works, thanks. 117Avenue (talk) 04:17, 13 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Madonna entertainer FAC

[edit]

Hello Matthew, I have nominated Madonna at FAC. There are some minor problems with copy-edit issues, which I am not able to solve. Would you please give the article a thorough copy-edit please> A humble request. --Legolas (talk2me) 09:21, 21 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Degrassi FAR

[edit]

Hi Matthew - I was just wondering where you were on the work for the Degrassi FAR? I'm pretty much just waiting for Tony to give an OK on the prose, and then I can keep it, unless something else major comes up in the meantime. If you feel that you've addressed his comments, please feel free to ping him on his talk page to revisit. I saw that he revisited once and struck part of his original statement, but then also left some further comments. Thanks in advance, Dana boomer (talk) 14:48, 27 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, that bit about who is Austin Russell was resolved a while ago. I checked my book and couldn't find his name. I assume somebody was trying to insert false information, so I just removed it. I went through the rest of the prose, too, but I've found with Tony that he rarely revisits nominations that he's reviewed. Matthewedwards :  Chat  22:34, 28 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The Tireless Contributor Barnstar
For your contribution to the GAN backlog elimination drive for reviewing 10 or more good article nominations. You have helped to reduce the backlog to their current levels. Nice work! –MuZemike 07:36, 29 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Additional barnatar for integrity and for letting us know
The Barnstar of Integrity
For letting us know of missing you for the GAN backlog elimination drive and for kindly letting us know that we missed you when we handed out awards. Nonetheless, you have done a good job in helping reduce the backlog in good article nominations, and we hope you can continue with that in the future. –MuZemike 07:36, 29 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCup 2010 May newsletter

[edit]

We are half way through round 3, with a little under a month to go. The current overall leader is Hungary Sasata (submissions), who has 570 points. He leads pool C. Pools A, B and D are led by Pennsylvania Hunter Kahn (submissions), Colorado Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) and White Shadows (submissions) respectively. Anything you worry may not receive the necessary attention before the end of the round (such as outstanding GA or FA nominations) is welcome at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews, and please remember to continue offering reviews yourself where possible. As always, the judges are available to contact via email, IRC or their talk pages, and general discussion about the Cup is welcome on the WikiCup talk page.

Two of last year's final 8, Sweden Theleftorium (submissions) and Iceland Scorpion0422 (submissions), have dropped out of the competition, saying they would rather their place went to someone who will have more time on their hands than them next round. On a related note, a special thank you goes to White Shadows (submissions) for his help behind the scenes once again. There is currently a problem with the poster, perhaps caused by the new skin- take a look at this discussion and see if you can help. The competition has continued to tick over well with minimal need for judge intervention, so thank you to everyone making that possible. Good luck to all! If you wish to start receiving or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. en.wikinews block ...

[edit]

Hi Matthewedwards, this is just a cross-wiki ping to let you know you've been blocked on the English Wikinews; please see this and this. Feel free to comment on your talk page there if you'd like. Regards, Tempodivalse [talk] 19:53, 31 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I want to add that this is a permanent block, but feel free to appeal for unblock in 6-12 months. —Mikemoral♪♫ 23:08, 31 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, although you can still edit your talk page, so technically you can appeal now if you wish. Tempodivalse [talk] 23:14, 31 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
If you would like, you can leave a comment about [1] on you Wikinews talk page. —Mikemoral♪♫ 02:51, 1 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'd love to hear your side of this. So far many people are saying that you abused your accreditation and the trust of the community to gain access to the concert, with no intention of writing an article about it, but I don't like making judgements without hearing both sides. Would you consider making a statement about what happened on Wikinews? Bawolff (talk) 11:40, 1 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I would too. There are hefty accusations that you have deceived a Wikimedia project and its editors, and have abused your rights in a truly devious manner. Do you ever intend on making any statement (considering we've lost two administrators over this debacle)? Blurpeace 00:46, 3 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I've responded. Matthewedwards :  Chat  17:24, 6 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Matthew, sorry to read about your grandmother. You're better off out that project. Clearly they have no concept of good faith, clearly it's very easy for some of their experienced editors to jump on a witch-hunting bandwagon. Disgraceful. The Rambling Man (talk) 17:31, 6 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. It goes beyond that though. One user posted private emails that I and a third-party, non Wiki person had sent, which included private information. I've always been open about my identity; my user name is my real name. But because I have unified login it has now tainted all my accounts, and now my phone number and home town is out there for all to see. I'm in a quandary over whether to just resign from all projects and invoke my right to vanish. :( Matthewedwards :  Chat  17:38, 6 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, I'm really sorry that it's come to this, and obviously sorry about your grandmother once again. Don't do anything rash right now, are the phone numbers etc able to oversighted? The Rambling Man (talk) 17:43, 6 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
As one of the admins who left the project over that mess, I want to apologize for everything we've done to you. There's nothing more I can say or do, for what happened was inexcusable...I am truly sorry for what has happened to you over the last few weeks, as well as for what we did to make it worse. C628 (talk) 17:48, 6 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
C628, I saw that you resigned your bit. I didn't expect what I did (or didn't do) to have such a wide-felt effect, and had I known that two admins would leave the project I would have tried a bit more to have posted the article I was writing. I just had other things going on in real life that are more important than an unpaid volunteer website. I'm sorry you resigned, especially if the project was something you frequently and actively participated in and enjoyed, but at the same time, I won't recommend editing that site to anybody. Matthewedwards :  Chat  18:15, 6 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
They are able to be oversighted, but I'm contacting the Meta:Ombudsman commission, so for now I'd rather leave them up. The phone number, luckily, is just a prepaid cell and not a phone I regularly use. Matthewedwards :  Chat  18:15, 6 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
For the record, the commission can see revision deleted contributions, I believe... Philippe Beaudette, WMF (talk) 18:09, 7 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I asked the question over there, I'll redact it. I mailed you also. No worries. All the very best. The Rambling Man (talk) 18:21, 6 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Watchlist button

[edit]

Your watchlist button points to Special:Watchlist/Matthewedwards, the latter portion of which means nothing. :-) It essentially leads to Special:Watchlist. I wasn't sure if you were aware of that. Killiondude (talk) 06:31, 3 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Problem with an administrator

[edit]

Hey, Matthew. I am having a problem with an administrator, User:Pats1, who is under the impression that project-wide formatting and standards do not apply to WP:NFL, and seems to be engaged in enforcing his own formatting preferences and possible violations of WP:OWN. I would be grateful if you would watch Fred Taylor (American football) and User talk:Pats1. I am tired of having perfectly valid edits reverted because the admin in question did not make them himself. Thanks. Dirtlawyer1 (talk)
