Welcome![edit]

Hello, Brampton Bombers, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! —C.Fred (talk) 03:34, 9 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Conflict of interest and username concerns[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. I saw that you edited or created Brampton Bombers, and I noticed that your username, "Brampton Bombers", may not comply with our username policy. Please note that you may not use a username that represents the name of a company, group, organization, product, or website. Examples of usernames that are not allowed include "XYZ Company", "MyWidgetsUSA.com", and "Trammel Museum of Art". However, you are invited to use a username that contains such a name if it identifies you personally, such as "Mark at WidgetsUSA", "Jack Smith at the XY Foundation", and "WidgetFan87".

Please also note that Wikipedia does not allow accounts to be shared by multiple people, and that you may not advocate for or promote any company, group, organization, product, or website, regardless of your username. Moreover, I recommend that you read our conflict of interest guideline. If you are a single individual and are willing to contribute to Wikipedia in an unbiased manner, please create a new account or request a change of username, by completing this form, that complies with our username policy. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you. —C.Fred (talk) 03:34, 9 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@C.Fred: - Thanks for reaching out. Forgive me if I'm handling Wikipedia incorrectly. It is not my intent. I have a significant time constraint but wish to see Wikipedia, my main resource for information, accurate.

As Vice President of the Brampton Bombers, I noticed that information was out of date. It listed goalies from several seasons ago as well as our first year coach / GM. I set up the account originally under the organization so I could ensure my successors could maintain it after me. (I'm grooming someone to take over next year.) I was unaware of the shared account rule, but respect it so I have requested a username change. Not sure how to change the accompanying email address but I will figure that out after.

I would appreciate your continued guidance as I have no intention of ruining Wikipedia by making it marketing fluff. With a bit of experience in PR, I made every effort to add facts without it coming out as a pitch. I want it to be historic. Thanks in advance for your help. --Brampton Bombers (talk) 04:25, 9 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

A couple of things. First, there's a guideline about editing when one has a conflict of interest. As the VP of the club, you have one with the club (and, indirectly, any articles that might exist about players or coaches). I don't see any problem with you making simple, factual updates like roster or coaching changes. Where there have been problems in similar articles is when subjective or promotional material starts to come in, such as a club describing as the best in a region without an unbiased ranking to support it. It sounds like you've got a grip on that and are doing okay.
Thank you for requesting the username change. Shared accounts aren't allowed, and role accounts aren't either. Your successors should set up their own accounts. If they'll have/share the same email address as you, I don't think that'll be a problem, especially if you're up front about being different people at the same organization. If it's a problem down the road, drop me a line, and I'll be glad to help out.
Finally, thank you for getting it. A lot of people see Wikipedia as just another social media platform to get their message out. It sounds like you see it for what it is: an encyclopedia. As long as you keep that perspective, I think we'll (the whole editing community, not just you and I) be able to grow Brampton Bombers into a well-developed, solid article. I'd love to get it to Good Article status, or at least work toward it.
Two last things: if you know of any news stories about the club that are online, especially about the formation of the club or major milestones, let me know. It's always great to show that sort of outside "secondary source" coverage of events. (If the stories aren't online, we can still use them; I just can't pull them up on the internet directly to use and cite them.) Also, images can enhance the article, but it can be tricky with licensing. If somebody takes a picture for the express purpose of uploading it to Wikipedia and releasing it widely, we can put it under a free license. If it's a picture re-used from the website, it can get more complicated, but I can give you some advice on how to make it available. Like I said, that's trickier, so we can worry about that later (or you can delegate that task out to somebody else).
Again, any assistance I can give, let me know. —C.Fred (talk) 15:25, 9 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright logos and fair use[edit]

I have reverted your edits to Ontario Hockey Association since you improperly uploaded a copyrighted logo as a free license. I will go ahead and properly upload the new logo with the correct license. Please see WP:FAIRUSE which discusses use of copyrighted images. Flibirigit (talk) 16:32, 13 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your help. I look forward to it being uploaded correctly. Honestly, I love Wikipedia and want to do what I can to keep it accurate, but I have severe ADHD and have trouble reading long rules and regs. Matthew Redican (talk) 16:41, 13 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Anyone is welcome to ask for help at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Ice Hockey, specifically for ice hockey-related articles. Flibirigit (talk) 16:53, 13 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I see you specifically handle User talk:Flibirigit/Ontario Hockey Association. I see that you updated the OHA logo (thank you), albeit with the PNG. I'm trying to help them get SVG logos there for the OHA and all sub-leagues. OJHL and GOJHL already have them, but I attempted to upload the SVG for the PJHL, but seem to have done that one wrong as well. I will also be attempting to update the Allan Cup Hockey page with the SVG file. Would I ask for help with these on that page or will you help me? Matthew Redican (talk) 19:43, 13 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If there is an SVG file available oline, I can upload it with a correct license. Flibirigit (talk) 17:30, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your help. I truly appreciate it. You will find 5 SVG logos in my Drive folder here, all of which need to be updated..
OHA and ACH were provided by the OHA GM, Chris McCleary with a request for help to update the logos accordingly.
Admirals, Bombers and Golden Hawks logos are provided and authorized by me on behalf of the owner, David Arsenault.
Let me know if you require further info.
Thanks so much,
