Evelyn Waugh and LGBT Roman Catholics

[edit]

Good afternoon! I don't have much to do with adding or deleting categories, and the removal of this one wasn't my doing, but it occurs to me that though Waugh had a gay period and a much longer RC period, I don't think they happened at the same time, so perhaps "LGBT Roman Catholics" isn't quite right. Just a thought, and I have no strong views on the subject, but it may be an explanation of sorts. Best wishes, Tim riley talk 14:42, 12 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I was thinking of that, and I am sensitive to the ambiguities involved with categorising people like that (especially since "LGBT Roman Catholic" can seem like a political label - i.e. someone who publicly identifies with their sexuality and their Roman Catholicism at the same time). The way I've used the category, which may be flawed, is to refer to people who prominently exhibited same-sex sexual activity or desire as well as Roman Catholicism. The same category includes people who existed before homosexuality was a civil rights issue or an identity, for instance. Anyway, I promise I won't get into an edit war over it if it changes again!
