User talk:MarlonWest063
Welcome!
[edit]Hello, MarlonWest063, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.
I noticed that one of the first articles you edited was Marlon West, which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.
To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.
One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)
In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.

If you need help, visit the Teahouse, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}}
before the question. Again, welcome! —C.Fred (talk) 02:53, 13 June 2024 (UTC)

[edit]If you are the person represented by this username, please note that the practice of blocking such usernames is to protect you from being impersonated, not to discourage you from editing Wikipedia. You may choose to edit under a new username (see information below), but keep in mind that you are welcome to continue to edit under this username.
If you choose to keep your current username, please send an email to info-enwikimedia.org including your real name and your Wikipedia username to receive instructions from our volunteer response team about account verification. Please do not send documentation without being requested to do so.
If you are not the person represented by this username, you are welcome to choose a new username (see below).
A username should not be promotional, related to a "real-world" group or organization, misleading, offensive, or disruptive. Also, usernames may not end in the word "bot" unless the account is an approved bot account.
Please take a moment to either create a new account, or request a username change. The new username that you choose must comply with Wikipedia's username policy.
- To create a new account with a different username, simply log out of this account and then make a new one.
- If you prefer to change the username of this account, you may do so by adding the following text to the bottom of your talk page (this page):
{{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}
.
Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be used by another account. You can search to see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns no account with that username, that means it is still available.
Appeals: If your username is not in violation of Wikipedia's username policy, and if you believe that this block was incorrect or made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the following text to the bottom of your user talk page here: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}
.
Marlon West Page requested corrections.
[edit]Hi! After having my own edits/corrections removed from a relatively new page about me. It was suggested by administrators that I do not make edits myself, but make requests form other editors. As a person who has edited this page already, I ask for a few factual corrections to be made.
Thanks so much in advance.
Paragraph one. The Annie Awards and Oscars are not awarded the year of release in most cases. While Moana was released in 2016, my Annie was awarded in 2017, as I stated in my edit that was removed. So please restore that. It is a quite verifiable fact.
One need only check the 44th Annie Awards here on Wikipedia to see that is true: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/44th_Annie_Awards
My branch is now the "Animation Branch" in the Academy, not The "Short Films and Animated Feature branch. Either way, the branch name should be capitalized. My term as a governor has another year. It is a simple fact that I am one of two governors of that newly formed branch.
This is old news, and here are sources: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/oscars-animation-and-short-films-branch-splits-1235836376/
https://www.thewrap.com/oscars-creates-animation-live-action-shorts-separate-branches/
Though in any case, lower case is not the way it should appear.
Here is the set of AMPAS governors for the 2024-2025 term. My co-governor Bonnie Arnold has termed out. There are two governors of the Animation Branch for this term. You can see I am one of them. You might also note, as I have now pointed out multiple times, the newly elected Short Films Branch governor: Chris Tashima. Yet another source says that the Branch is now two branches.

Please change that entry to reflect that. Thanks!
I see C.Fred has used my proper job titles in the opening paragraph. Appreciated. Strange there’d be pushback on IMDB for the proper credits and job titles, as whoever fashioned this page to begin with obviously used that site to create the wholly accurate filmography included on this page.
One more thing, could you remove my child's first name from the last paragraph. They are a minor.
It seems that requested edits are not met with the same enthusiasm as policing edits made by the subjects of pages. Anyway, thanks for your help. MarlonWest063 (talk) 05:18, 15 June 2024 (UTC)
- I have removed your son's name from the article. I have also removed it from your request above (this page is also publicly available, and you have used your real name as your username increasing the chances someone looking for information on you may come across it). Note that their name will still be visible in the edit history, but the vast majority of people will not see it. My edit summary notes that I have removed their name as it is not mentioned in the source. If another editor re-adds this information with a reliable source, it may be more difficult to get it removed.
- I have to get back to work now, but I will look at implementing the rest of your requested changes when I come back online, if no one else has done so. I thought I would do the easiest change first so I have a link in my contributions to get back to the article.
- In future, please use the {{Edit COI}} template on the talk page of the article to request an edit. This adds the page to a category which is monitored by several users, while I came across your request entirely by accident. Requests posted to your own user talk page are generally unlikely to get a response as very few, if any, users will be watching it. Adam Black talk • contribs 08:51, 16 June 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for your reply, and edit. I might just change my username too. That is sound advice. I appreciate you prioritizing Tim's name removal in your limited time.
- I will also use the Edit COI in the furture.
- Thanks again, Marlon MarlonWest063 (talk) 19:49, 16 June 2024 (UTC)
- The policy on changing usernames can be found at Wikipedia:Changing username.
- If you have a confirmed email address on your account, you can request a new username at Special:GlobalRenameRequest.
- If you don't have a confirmed email address, you should instead place a request at Wikipedia:Changing username/Simple.
- I will make the remaining changes you've requested now. Adam Black talk • contribs 11:59, 17 June 2024 (UTC)
- Changes made. If you spot any further errors feel free to ping me (using {{ping|Adam Black}}) in your edit request. Another editor will get around to your request eventually, but I don't patrol COI requests and as I'm now familiar with your article I may be able to handle it a little more quickly. Also, if another editor adds your son's name to the article again you may email me privately (on my user and talk pages you'll find a link under "Tools" which says "Email this user") if you'd prefer not to ask for its removal publicly.
- Wikipedia relies entirely on volunteers and so now that you've created an account I'd like to invite you to contribute to other areas of the encyclopedia if you ever come across any errors in articles for which you don't have a conflict of interest. I've included a welcome template below which has many links useful to new users. I appreciate you have quite a demanding career, but even the occasional edit makes a big difference in helping to maintain the project. Adam Black talk • contribs 12:56, 17 June 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for you help. I truly appreciate it. I must admit, there are other editors much more interested in flexes of their authority than getting facts correct. When written direcly after having their errors pointed out have overtly refused to make changes. Quite surprising and disappointing. Thanks again for your help, Adam Black. MarlonWest063 (talk) 16:30, 17 June 2024 (UTC)
- You're very welcome. I'm only sorry it took more than a day to finish. It was my birthday last week and we had a big family get-together yesterday to celebrate, otherwise I'd have done it sooner.
- I'd like to think editors like that are very much in the minority. I always try to be helpful when I can, and most of the other editors I've interacted with are the same. Millions of people use Wikipedia every day with thousands of them editing, so there's going to be a big mix of personalities. Our conflict of interest policies exist for a very good reason, but your requests were uncontroversial and easily verified so should have been handled quickly and without much fuss. - Thanks again, and Happy Birthday! You have been very helpful indeed. I thought my edits were very responsible and was surprised to get pushback. Then overt foot-dragging when I supplied sources. Anyway, you've restored my faith on the process. MarlonWest063 (talk) 19:26, 17 June 2024 (UTC)
