I actually enjoyed seeing Miguel reaching the electronics industry before Cofresí. Roberto's myth has become part of our culture, but all of the historic sources suggest that he was a lot colder, albeit clearly competent and intelligent, than his "Robin Hood" persona. A real pirate, if you will. Miguel on the other hand, made a fortune on brain power alone and that is truly impressive. Yet, for him to remain anonymous for three centuries is unforgettable. List of people from Ponce, Puerto Rico

Hi. I am of the opinion that since the wikilinks to each listed person's article lead to the necessary cites, then the cites are just unecessary duplicates in this list, and then we really don't need cites in the list. WP:Help desk is good, but my favorite is WP:TEAHOUSE for beginner-like questions. For mediawiki-software-questions, there is WP:VPT, and for general-computer-problems there is a subsection of the refdesk. National Cemetery

According to THIS and Puerto Rico National Cemetery, "In 1962, the remains of those interred on all other five military cemeteries on the island were transferred here." I have become interested in findong out which were/are the other 5 military cemeteries in the island. As you might know cemeteries provide a wealth of historical information; thus my interest. Puerto Rico introduction

As your near-contemporary Marine 1970-73 active, 73-75 active reserve, in aviation supply in Vietnam and stateside, I want to thank you for your work on Wikipedia. You may enjoy scanning my User boxes. I am saddened that --- while I would have Puerto Rico made a state larger than 20 states of smaller population, --- as I understand it, you would have Puerto Rico independent of the United States. I had similar experiences to yours in the Corps, and I refuse to defend the indefensible injustices we find throughout history.

Thank you for contributing to the DRN on Puerto Rico, it is not clear we disagree, -- though you would emphasize one side "unincorporated", -- since I would like to report both sides of the controversy, see Burnett and Marshall, Foreign in a Domestic Sense, p. 17, "The dispute over the precise content of this [Congressional power of incorporation] is at the heart of today's status debate." The goal is to improve WP by adding sourced information of today's controversy to the PR article.

The process Ahnoneemoos began, which was --- a) to add in the article introduction, "several judges and scholars have concluded that PR is incorporated", sourced to Lawson and Sloane's article in Boston College Law Review and Gelpi's researched opinion, --- b) while noting official U.S. online sources represent PR as unincorporated. --- And I suggest a note might be included --- c) that at a source supplied by Mercy11, Downes shows PR to be unincorporated for Revenue Clause purposes alone.

A similar DRN came up for United States a year ago successfully including PR in the US, but failing in this DRN by Ahnoneemoos, I mean to apply myself to additional research and await another year, as I spend very much more time at WP in research and writing in history and military articles than disputing in country articles. Your valued feedback as per an article

Hermano Tony,

In June 2012, por carambola, as we would say in Spanish, I came across an article on the English language website of Wikipedia. Said article was on the immortal Sonora Matancera. It was a short essay with scant data, some of which was misleading. I, therefore, took it upon myself to correct this information and, at the same time, to expand the essay in question. By December of last year I had expanded this article to seventy-eight pages. I was nearly finished with this project when a host of Wikipedia editors drastically cropped it down to seventeen pages, deleting whole sections. Admittedly, many of their edits were warranted. Many other edits, in my opinion, were not.

Some of the editors accused me of using language more appropriate to album liner notes or a fanzine. I feel such is not the case. At all times I wrote in a neutral voice even though I hold to the belief that La Sonora Matancera is not only the most important Cuban/Afro-Cuban dance band ever but the most important Latin American dance band of all time, bar none. Other editors felt that I did not source some of the data which I used. This is not so for I included information which could easily be verified by referring to a cited source. Finally, one editor called me incompetent. I may be many things but incompetent I'm not. I feel such language is out of place and unprofessional to boot.

I kindly ask you, mi hermano, time permitting, to read this essay. The copy of this article which you should look at is from December 20th and it is 259,535 bytes long (prior to the already-mentioned edits). Without knowing you, Tony the Marine, I trust your judgment. You impress me as being fair in your critiques and, as well, intelligent. Furthermore, it doesn't hurt that you are an independentista such as myself.

I have not forgotten to inform you of the title of the scholarly work that I told you about in an earlier communication. I have to look through several files in order to find this title and, in addition, the name of the writer. Trust me. Could you please explain your move, considering:

I quote from WP:NCPDAB: John F. Kennedy and John F. Kennedy, Jr. - Apparently John F. Kennedy was a Sr. also, but nobody would move the article to "John F. Kennedy, Sr." The reason is simple. He never used Sr., and never was referred to as Sr., just like Oscar Garcia Rivera. Wikipedia is based on sources, not on personal opinions and original research. I suggest you to follow the guidelines. I also suggest you read WP:OWN. Having been around for 10 years is irrelevant when it comes to discussing the merit of a question. By the way, I've been around here for 7 years myself.
Now to Oscar Garcia Rivera: The reader will see at a glance that the subject lived from 1900 to 1969, and will know exactly who he is reading about, with or without the appendix Sr in the article title. That there was a Jr. is mentioned in the text and in the infobox. If an article on the Jr. should be written (provided he is notable under the Wikipedia guidelines) the article on the Jr. should be named Oscar Garcia Rivera, Jr. A hatnote should then be appended to the article on the father, to avoid confusion. Context in article "French Immigration to Puerto Rico"

Hola!

I'm a Puerto Rican born in the island and living abroad. I couldn't help trying to contact someone about this because it is often the case with all the "politics" involved regarding Wiki users of seniority and those of us who just know how to make simple edits. The case and event is the absence of the surname "Pepin" in the "French Immigration to Puerto Rico" page.

It is my surname and that of my forefathers for up to 5 generations above mine, and quite possibly more.

In this link it specifies that Carlos M. Pepin was made interim mayor of Fajardo during the taking of P.R. by the U.S. My grandfather Carlos Pepin Benet (who still lives as of this date) recognizes the man mentioned in this historic document is his great-grandfather. This link is not the only time I've seen him mentioned.

I have tried to contact Salon Hogar, the people "credited" with finding these surnames, but both times I've tried I have been unsuccessful in receiving a response from them. I have also visited to their website to try to find more information.

My goal is to add the surname (my surname) Pepin to the list of immigrant French families.

I will add that I'm not versed in wiki lingo, procedures, or html so I will need some guidance.

The Bust of Capitan Correa

I am the niece of the Cuban artist Rolando Gutierrez Lopez that created/sculpted the bust of Capitan Correa you have featured in a photograph in this post. I do not understand why you claim to have created it? Please correct the information.

  • Hi Gisselle. Tony is not claiming he created the bust. In this case the word "work" refers to the photograph as a piece of work. It does not refer to the sculpture. Tony took a photograph (the piece of work) and has the right claim authorship on it (the photograph of the sculpture, not the sculpture itself). Chandler Photos

Hi... before I go and remove a lot of the photos you've posted, be aware of the wiki policy regarding galleries. In articles, pictures should mostly be included in the body of the article, and galleries should only be there when there are significant items which couldn't be included in that format. While there are many buildings in every community of historic value, that does not make their images by default, historic. Specifically, look at WP:Gallery. You've done a lot of good work on this, but it doesn't meet the criteria of the guidelines. There's only 2 or 3 of the photos which are noteworthy enough to keep.   • Even though I do not agree with you and certainly the Chandler Historical Society does not agree, I will not object. Just think, regardless of what WP:Gallery says, the images that I uploaded are historically significant enough for the Chandler Historical Society to have placed plaques on each of the pictured buildings. Puerto Rican heraldry

Tony, I just noticed we do not have an article about Puerto Rican heraldry. There are a ton of seals and other stuff related to heraldry in Puerto Rico. The governor has its own seal, and so it does the House and the Senate. The National Guard units have a ton of heraldry and so does each municipality. Do you think this is something you would be interested? I noticed we can start it off by simply copying stuff from Coat of arms of Puerto Rico. What do you think?

Regarding the book, that's fantastic! I added it to my Amazon wishlist. That's something I would love to read... when I have time!! lol.

I see that the California State Senate has an active bill to honor PFC Gonzales by naming a highway interchange in Los Angeles his honor: "David M. Gonzales Medal of Honor World War II Memorial Interchange". The bill has not yet been passed into law. Consider adding this to the article.

McCormick RR Park Picture

You say in the caption the picture (close up of a AT&SF passenger train) is HO. It's not. It's O. Don't know if you are familiar with the scales/gauges. Except for #1 or G Gauge the letters are use. "O" not "zero" etc. Anyway the pic is of the 3 rail O layout. You can tell by the third rail. Before I moved I was a member of the Scottsdale Model Railroad Club. Jose "Joey" Torres, Paterson, New Jersey's mayor-elect

I'm sorry, I must be missing something - you deleted what I thought was my very pertinent sentence about Jose "Joey" Torres - Paterson, New Jersey's new mayor-elect as of last night. It can't really go in the notable Puerto Rican New Yorker section because technically he is in New Jersey; also, there is a different Jose Torres listed in the New Yorker list. It really goes best alongside the discussion of Luis Quintana in the paragraph I had it. Was it that you needed a ref? I can easily obtain one if that's the issue.   • No problem at all. Add the name of Jose "Joey" Torres where it was in the "Puerto Rican migration to New York City" article. Just remember to add a verifiable reliable source that states that he is of Puerto Rican heritage and that he served as mayor. Two prior Dispute Resolution Notices (DRs) that were TOTALLY ignored

The problem Tony, is that Rococo has opened two prior DRs, not gotten his way in either of them, and then proceeded to do PRECISELY what the first DR (opened by him) told him NOT to do.

He has now recruited 3 or 4 more editors onto his side, and they opened up this Mediation. If he loses THIS one, he will simply ignore it again. Rococo is also a LIAR who blatantly accuses other editors of things that are UNTRUE, and could lead to disciplinary action if they were true. The lies are quite pathetic, because they are glaringly and very obviously contradicted by the edit history. He is a lying, bad faith, internet adolescent who respects no one that disagrees with him. After two weeks of this, I can't be bothered with this sociopathic idiot anymore.

I will edit the OLR page responsibly, with sources, and expect others to do the same. I have NO time for these games. At some point, Rococo may face discipline (a topic or site ban), and that's that.

Honor Memorial Day and updates

Thank you for your service. -- I could not find you as User:Tony, but today I did via 'Puerto Rico’ as my Marine.

Six of my Puerto Rico on stamps images got blown off the page as Non-free content (NFC) by Werieth, along with other stamps in two articles that I originated, Commemoration of the American Civil War on postage stamps and Territories of the United States on stamps. However, three months later, for first one and now three NFC images exist at History of Virginia on stamps. I was able to overcome his objections at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content with a Request for Comment, but I secured the help of administrator Masem only by noting the three were only 2% of the article scope of stamps pictured. At ‘Puerto Rico on stamps’ the modern, post 1978, USPS, Non-free content copyrighted images --- would be more like 50% of the stamps discussed, since Philafrenzy broke my contributions away from Postage stamps and postal history of Puerto Rico in an effort to save the NFC stamp images.

On another front, I’ll update List of people on stamps of Puerto Rico to include Jose Ferrer, and the Puerto Rican flag from the ‘Flags of our Nation’ series (55 flags include all five inhabited territories with territorial representation in Congress). Also, the USPS issued a commemorative of Christopher Columbus landing at Puerto Rico on the 500th anniversary, so I would like to pair that with the Spanish issue on the 400th anniversary…with a visual presentation.

I’m not sure how to proceed, but I wanted you to know I have not abandoned my little side project to bring all Puerto Rico on stamps to light on Wikipedia. All of my Puerto Rican uploads have since been removed as ‘orphans’, so that must be redone in the event using the resources at the National Postal Museum online, Arago: people, postage & the post. The principle hurdle will be satisfying reviewing editors that the use of the images meet Non-free content criteria, NFCC #3 limited use, and NFCC #8 contextual significance, for the topical philately article Puerto Rico on stamps, without getting bogged down in discussions about concert photos, magazine covers and movie posters. Joaquín Santiago

Most of the sources that were already in the article didn't mention Joaquín at all, and a quick Google search found nothing to corroborate what was already there. Can you explain why none of the sources in the article mention a thing about him? For instance, this source from the article does not have Joaquín's name in it anywhere.

So long as you know the date of the newspaper articles, and the newspaper they came from, you can cite them in the article via {{cite news}}. Ideally, you can use the |quote= parameter and include quotes from the articles in your citations too. Ten Pound Hammer • (What did I screw up now?) 02:37, 8 June 2014 (UTC)

  • Editing an article on someone you know personally is not inherently COI. If you have any sources for which you do have the authorship and origin, then you're most certainly welcome to add them, and I doubt anyone will cry COI since you're editing in good faith. It's unfortunate yet unsurprising that an administrator decided to ignore consensus and delete the article. Perhaps you could re-create the article as a sub-page of your user-page. This would allow those interested in Puerto Rican history to learn about the topic, while keeping you free from conflict-of-interest guidelines that would apply in article-space. Could you take a look at this file? It currently says "Listed in the National Register of Historic Places on January 2, 2008 reference #07001333." The first two digits in the reference number seems to be a two-digit year, but it doesn't match with the year of listing. The date in the which the property was listed was January 2, 2008. I couldn't find the National Register of Historical Places reference and therefore I relied on what was posted here: National Register of Historic Places listings in Maricopa County, Arizona and here: [[2]] which listed it as "#07001333".

That's strange. Maybe 07 is the year when the National Park Service decided to list this house. 2 January is very early in the year, and it takes some time to produce a plaque, so the decision may have been taken a few days earlier (i.e. during the previous year). --Stefan2 (talk) 10:43, 3 July 2014 (UTC)

65th Infantry

Tony, can you take a look at the 65th Infantry talk page, and provide a bit of guidance with respect to the CGM (Congressional Gold Medal) section? I think it has been shortened more than necessary, and I am concerned that a separate CGM article:

1) would not have the same level of readership
2) would eliminate a legitimate chapter of the Borinqueneers story, as if it "didn't happen" or "wasn't important"
3) might not survive a notability challenge as a separate, stand-alone article.

I essentially made these points in the Borinqueneers talk page. What do you think about it all?

Follow up on 65th Infantry, and the new article Bill S. 1174

I didn't know you'd gone ahead and written the new article...I read it and it looks great. I got word from Frank, who also read and appreciated it a great deal. So guess what? It looks like I was wrong, you made a good decision, and Tony the Marine resolved yet another matter. Well done, Tony! Asunto resuelto, con la sabiduria de Solomon.

Frank mentioned one small thing, about the article's title. He thinks it should be Bill HR 1726, not Bill S. 1174 -- because although the Senate is the upper chamber, the bill originated in the House of Rep., not the Senate, and it was therefore Bill HR 1726 that got passed.

Redundant categories

Hi. I saw your edit to Sylvia Rexach. I removed the category of Women in World War II and replaced it with American women in World War II because Puerto Rico is part of the United States as a territory, and the Women in World War II category would have been redundant with the American World War II subcategory. I also removed the Puerto Rican Military personnel category as it is redundant with the subcategory of Puerto Rican Army personnel. Don't be embarrassed, I made the same mistakes with adding redundant categories when I first started editing. =) Asarelah (talk) 15:41, 4 September 2014 (UTC)

I see you may not have read (or understood) my earlier message. Subcategories of a parent category do not go into the parent category, they are sorted into subcategories to make it easier for the reader to reach the information they want. Women in World War II is a parent category. American women in World War II is the subcategory of the parent category Women in World War II, and I added it to replace the Women in World War II category that I deleted. The same principles apply to the Puerto Rican Military Personnel categories I've been removing. The people in question are already in the subcategories of Puerto Rican Military Personnel, therefore I have removed the redundant parent category. Categories with a large amount of articles are to be sorted into subcategories to create simpler browsing. I hope that clears up any further misunderstanding. You make a valid point. I will broaden out the category of American Women in World War II back to Women in World War II. Actually, since you've got a military background and are clearly interested in women in warfare, maybe you could direct your interest to the articles Timeline of women in warfare in the United States since 2000 and Timeline of women in the United States military from 1945 to 1999. I've been trying to add pictures of women of color to the 1945-1999 article, which is what prompted me to start working on the Puerto Rican military category in the first place. Just please make sure that any images you add are public domain (as fair use pictures can only be used in the article about the person), that they are in chronological order, and make sure that you include reliable sources for the information that you put in.
