Friendly Boricua Talk

Hello tony! Como estas? I've been a little busy these days since the classes at the university started and I've had a lot of work. Here in wikipedia I've been waging battles against vandals who are constantly messing up with the Guns N Roses article, which I have worked so much to bring up to a respectable article type. I've also been working on the pictures of the popes; I'm trying to find images were they have the same kind of robes. Little details of continuity. And also, very tedious, adding the style boxes to the articles on all the cardinals of the catholic church. All in all, I've been a little active. Alani Vazguez

Hello. I'm sorry you did not like my merge I picked La La Vasquez as the merge into target as I felt this was the name she was probably best known as. It was a merger with information from both being integrated into one. There are still dubious points of fact in the article with IMDB saying she was engaged on the 31st december not the 24th.

As I understand it the merging of page history can only be done by administrators which leaves the sorely ignored Category:Articles_to_be_merged, with nearly three thousand articles, never likely to be fixed. MeltBanana 00:26, 13 September 2005 (UTC)

about why is McClintock being removed

Dear Marine 69-71.

I noticed that you, among others, have edited Kenneth McClintock's bio. As you appear to be among the last to touch it up, I wanted to ask you a question.

I don't understand why this bio includes radical comments like : "Kenneth McClintock is being removed, as well as those who follow him". There is a huge gap in progression between the time Pedro Rosello nominated him to the point where now Pedro Rosello wants him out (do you see my point?).

So, I believe that in order to have that strong comment in there, there has to be a logical thought that ties the two changes (the before and the present).

Also, for those who view this bio as a reference point, it might be good to keep it neutral (quoting/addressing both the rightist and leftist of thoughts behind this struggle for Senate power).

It would be great if you could share your thoughts about it. I haven't been following politics in Puerto Rico nearly as much as my parents (who are now living in PR), but I know that, from the views I have been exposed to, there is a perverse reason for his removal (Rosello's compulsive PNP party behavior) while there are other less perverse but rational reasons for his removal (party unity and the like).

If you think we can fill that gap, I would love to help you do so. If we can't, I'd like to edit that comment out. I welcome your thoughts.

Vandalism on FIliberto ojeda Article

Tony my friend;

Ever since the death of Filiberto Ojeda the number of edits on the article has gone dramatically up. However, a few anonymous users have come to vadnalise the page. One specific user is constantly adding a section with the picture of an FBI agent that has the word "Asesino" on it. The section is redundant and contains material that it's against NPOV. I have warned the user and added him to WP:VIP, but if he continues with this behavior I think he should be blocked. I contact you 'cause you are the only Puerto Rican admin I know and should be warned about the vandalism in this page. I will continue to fight them off but I would like if you could keep an eye open on this case, cause the infractions are gettin severe. Carlos Ponce

hi there. I recenly made some changes on the intro to this artist but I see you changed it back. May I ask why? The current intro is not an actual sentence:

Carlos Augusto Ponce a.k.a. "Carlitos Ponce" (September 4, 1972) born in Santurce, Puerto Rico, - actor, singer and composer.

An actual sentence would be: Carlos Augusto Ponce (born September 4, 1972) is a cuban-puerto rican actor, singer and composer.

Since he is mostly known as simply "Carlos Ponce" maybe this and "Carlitos Ponce" would be better mentioned in the body of the biography as well as his place of birth.

Cuban categories

thanks! I'm glad I could help and don't worry, we are all wrong at some point or another.  ;) My name is chinese (~_^)

I have another question (sorry to be such a pain!) but I noticed we have two categories that are basically the same:

• • Category:Cuban-American - this one is the best out of the two since it has most everyone
  • Category:Cuban-American_entertainers - this one seems like a bad copy of the other

shouldn't the second one be deleted or at least redirected to the first?

oh and also Barbara was born in PR to cuban parents. They interviewed her about it on her website: http://www.univision.com/content/content.jhtml?chid=6&cid=119471&schid=1619&secid=8962

I know it gets confusing because many of the celebs that people think are puerto rican are also half-cuban or of cuban parents born in PR but most people just assume they are puerto ricans. I guess it's because there are more well-known pr actors than cubans lol

Hmmm. I thought I had posted here already. Better late than never. Well, anyway, I wanted to let you know that I *finally* removed the baseball reference from the Mayaguez Article. I couldn't think of other ways to clean up the article a little more. I also cleaned up the Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico article a bit too. I should go through the other municipalities as well, but of course, given that there are 78 of them, that will take some time. Just wanted to keep you updated. I have another question, I've run into a few cases of this. In some of the intros for a few non-american actors the line goes as follows:

"actors-name is an American actor born in insert-country-here"

now I may be wrong but if a person is born in another country then it should be that it says:

"an insert-country actor" and maybe add "working in Hollywood" but saying American actor born in such country is implying they are of American parents born in another country. if we want to clarify that they are Hollywood actors then we should state that as I mentioned before but saying that, say, "Roselyn Sanches is an American actress born in Puero Rico" doesn't really make sense. Where they work doesn't haveto do with their ethnocity or where their parents are from. Unless they are half American or their parents are I don't see the point of saying "American actor". By this logic then Nicole Kidman should say "American actress born in Australia".

ok that was long lol, I hope I didn't lose you in that rant but if you could give me your opinion. I think that unless we change all actors who work in Hollywood to "American actor" the intro should say the country of where the person is born (or their parents if they aren't americans) and then explain they work in Hollywood.

another question I have is the following. the article on Anna Vissi is in need of major cleanup which I have started slowly but for some unknown reason 24.189.105.140 keeps reverting everything. he/she even deleted the greek form of her names (and I can see no reason why) and has done this twice already as well as taking off the cleanup notice. I think by the history of the article that this person's had a problem with others on this article because they want it left how they like it (see for yourself it's a big mess). it's of no use for me (or anyone) to try and clean up that mess if this person is going to keep reverting it. is there an administrator or someone in charge that can reprimand this person? or at least make them see that we are trying to better the article. I've looked under wikipedia's policies but I cannot find where to look for an admin.

Hay en mi biografia algunos errores y mi asistente ha estado tratando de arreglarlos. Parece que al no estar muy al tanto de como funciona este website, acabo siendo bloqueada. Es por eso que decidi yo misma comunicarme contigo para ofrecerte la informacion de primera mano. Tambien puedo enviarte la biografia completa si deseas.

La primera cosa que no esta correcta es mi fecha de nacimiento. Definitivamente, no naci en el l947 ni en el 1951, sino en el 1960. Mi padre, Alvaro Garcia de la Noceda, aunque tiene un apellido "de alcurnia", no viene de una familia acomodada. Su padre emigro a Puerto Rico y aunque su familia en Espana si son personas acomodadas, aqui no lo eran. Tampoco mis padres se divorciaron. Estuvieron casados hasta que Papi murio hace 19 anos y siempre vivi con ambos padres. Si empece a tomar clases con Rina a los 13 anos, pero no empece a cantar profesionalmente durante la High School, sino en Allegro en el 1978.

Aunque si estuve casada con Charlie Robles, que dicho sea de paso es bastante mayor que yo ya que nacio en el 1945 (15 anos mayor). Aunque de ese matrimonio saque a mi hija mayor a la cual adoro, fue un "error de juventud" :-) ya que era demasiado nina para casarme y por ende, no funciono. Es algo que no tuvo demasiada trascendencia en Puerto Rico y nunca lo incluyo como parte de mi biografia.

A partir de estos detalles, la biografia esta bastante cercana a la oficial, a excepcion de que con Cucco tuve solo tres hijos, no cinco. Falta una produccion llamada Formas de Amarte que produjo Ito Serrano, justo antes de Lunna Bohemia.

Glad to see you and Iago back on productive terms and the article back on track. For future reference it's best not to use blocking or protection on an article you work on, unless it's something really obvious (like people inserting nasty pictures or profanity). I've been really busy since enrolling at the University of Rhode Island. I'm currently dorming there, and I'm having a pretty good time. I still have time for the encyclopedia, thankfully. I haven't had time for Civil Air Patrol or flying, though. I guess you need to make sacrifices in order to accomplish more important things.

If I didn't already thank you, I want to thank you and Antonio for supporting me on my RfB. I realize that I really do need more time before I can run again, but that's alright. I plan on running for bureaucrat on March 12th, 2006 (I'll be a Wikipedian for exactly one year then). Do you want to be notified when it comes time for me to run?

Regarding your message "Friendly Chat"

I'm not involved in this dispute, nor am I familiar with it, so I can't comment on it. My only relationship to the two users comes from observing a number of copyright violations (plagiarism) made by Red Darwin (talk · contribs). In the course of following up on what appeared to be a trivial matter, I found the contribution history of User:Iago Dali which was virtually identical in scope to Red Darwin's. I haven't a clue what Iago Dali (talk · contribs) is ranting about on my talk page (and I will remove his comments as personal attacks) in regard to "impersonations" so none of that makes any sense to me. Both users "appear" to be newbies who claim that it is "ok" to plagiarize and violate copyrights. Red Darwin has now posted on my talk page that he is: "...guilty of aping [Iago Dali's] style. I had come across some of your edits a while back and liked how concise you made many of the entries. I agreed with the contents boxes being too long, and liked your basic "template", I would call it, of making an entry with a life, career, bibliography, and links section. I thought it made things far more readable, and after comparing before and after edits I decided to "steal" your style. I did not feel this was wrong, and I admit editorial plagiarism, however, it was not my intention to get you into hot water. I also mimicked your summaries." Due to the editing similarity and defense of "plagiarism" on my talk page, despite their protestations, Occam's razor leads me to believe that both users may very well be the same person. This is all silly. Viriditas is clearly not mentally stable, and trying to hide his own complicity in plotting against me. He asks how I could answer questions put to others, even though I clearly paint a trail back to his own childish plotting. His history of reverting others' edits clearly points to some agenda. What it is I do not care, but if he is involved with the impostures he should be banned, along with his friend. It's a joke to claim I'm attacking him when I had no idea who he was until I discovered his plots against me, and who knows how many others? Tony, if we connect again, so be it. If not, thanks, but I refuse to play in the fantasy sandboxes of the mentally ill. You and I disputed, shook hands, and that was that. This fellow, I'm sure, has a past of troublemaking, and I won't be the last editor he targets. And, as I have clearly pointed out, he is absolutely wrong regarding copyright law, and I proved it. User's consider it more as a Communitry Service and not as other commercial sites you are allowing such as Zonai.com, etc. You make reference to other commercial sites and I really do not understand why you keep eliminating our contributions which mainly benefit Puerto Ricans that live away from the island. If you need an accountant to provide you with a statement on how we contribute to other related organizations let me know. Tony, you enjoyed your time in the marines and you are proud of it, well I'm proud of helping Puerto Ricans away from the island for the past 8 years thru MusicaBoricua.com and other sites. Marine 69-71: It depends on where the external link is placed. If it if placed in an article on her record company, then it is fine. If it is placed somewhere else it may or may not be wrong depending on how relevant that article is to the link. --mav

See Wikipedia:External links for some guidelines, but in this specific case, the musicaboricua doesn't seem to add anything to the article. If a discography is needed, that can be added without needing to link to a site which is just selling this music without providing any information on the topic. Report of Spamming, Harassment, and Fuck You viruses

Tony,

I just got my pc back today after it spent several days in the repair shop due to some viruses and bots that attacked it when I last tried to log in to Wiki on Friday, not to mention having my email spammed by hundreds of emails to clog that up as well, all in reference to harassing me for my work on Wikipedia. I find this disgraceful. I spent several hundred dollars in repairs, all because certain editors are out to get me, for whatever reasons. This is disgraceful and disgusting, and worst off it is silently tolerated by you, other admins, and Wikipedia. After I did my Shakespeare edit, several editors emailed me to congratulate me on having the guts to do so, as well stating they hoped I followed through and trimmed that unprofessional entry on novels. However, they warned me that editing such a high profile entry as Shakespeare would make me a target of small-minded, petty, and deceitful editors with agendas because they had experienced the same thing—harassment, threats, reversions of good work, deceit, and lies told about them. Despite all the bravado and claims to the contrary Wikipedia is a far too conservative (informationally, not politically) institution, and editors that want to actually improve it to a professional level beyond being merely another lowest common denominator Internet thing like all the porno sites and spam and Nigerian ripoff scams are doomed. There is actually a good portion of editors that like the poor quality and undermine excellence at every turn.

In the last two weeks I have been wrongly banned, I have been the victim of an impersonation (at least one—maybe more), I have had my work undone, redone, plagiarized, reverted, I have been harassed, spammed, sent viruses and bots that screwed up my pc, and prevented log in to Wiki, and now I even see that there are further claims against my name. All of this is rubbish, and the work of spiteful editors who would rather harass those who seek change than actually effectuate it.

Last Friday I believe it had to be that Viriditas guy, who else?, who planted bots or spyware on my user home page, so that when I went to log in, where you usually see that yellow 'You have messages' stripe I got a message that said FUCK YOU. I did not click on it, but my log in failed. Then I froze up, and my paltry systems for firewalls and the like was screwed. All weekend I was helpless, so on Monday I brought my pc in to the shop, and today they told me that I had bots and spyware and viruses galore, all from that login attempt. I have since gotten better protection systems. Nonetheless, this F.U. executable file was deliberately planted so that it would infect my pc at login. Despite whatever edit wars may occur, or whatever arguments or claims people have against each other, this sort of act is wholly beyond the bounds. It is unconscionable. The bots would not let me log in, nor even move beyond the Wiki home page. Along with this virus or bot that got my computer I had hundreds of spam emails with attachments I did not open, but deleted immediately. Again, they said simply F.U.

Now, I see that Viriditas had amazingly ‘found’ some old conversation where Red Darwin and I have chatted, and tries to use this as ‘proof’, although I find it amazing that he finds this the same day that viruses appear in my account, just as it amazingly happens that the same day, last week, that I uncovered his initial plotting I mysteriously was impersonated by a fake Iago Dali. As he himself says, Occam’s Razor clearly points to him as the person behind the impersonations, the viruses, and I suspect the phony records of some attempts by Red Darwin to log in as ‘me’. After my pc was attacked I called several people I knew, some who had been Wikipedians but gave up after similar harassment, as well as a friend of my son’s who works with computer programming. They all agreed that the faking of records is something that has occurred before, along with impersonations, and they are standard tools of harassment. Imagine, two times in less than a week- what a coincidence, eh? My son’s friend also told me that of computer languages, like XML or HTML, and the like, Wiki language is by far the easiest to manipulate, fake, or delete. I was told both by him and the technician at the shop that any low level computer programmer can easily manipulate HTML and other languages, such as those on blogs, and Wiki language is child’s play. Again, isn’t it amazing? It would not shock me if Red Darwin and Viriditas were working together or that they were the same person, in some elaborate plot to discredit me. After going to the lengths of sending viruses, nothing would surprise me now!

What I suspect is that I, the real Iago Dali, was the real target of the impersonations. Note that all the users had Ls in their names: Cool Cat, Alabamaboy, Iago Dali, etc. But, the user Red Darwin didn’t. The other users were targeted by Viriditas merely to make it seem random, but I discovered the impersonator too quickly, before real damage could be done, and also uncovered Viriditas’s plot. So, without being able to make a fake Darwin account to set him up (assuming he and Viriditas are separate entities and not working against me) he did the next best thing, and tried to alter evidence that made Darwin look like me trying to be me! Also, note, that Darwin is targeted and accused of being or working with me, and then this ‘evidence’ turns up—and who knows what more with a week’s head start and me out of commission, and before that the Shakespeare bunch accused me and Alabamaboy of collusion, and look who was targeted- me and him! One does not have to be a genius to see the implications of who was behind it all.

Whether the impersonations and viruses were all the work of Viriditas, or just separate cabals is really irrelevant, though, for the point is he is one of dozens if not hundreds of editors with the agenda and skill to thwart real positive change in the project. As I stated, active, positive change is thwarted by underhanded, dirty tactics, even though the Wiki guidelines encourage editors to BE BOLD! What BS! Furthermore, as I showed last week, most editors do not even understand basic copyright law or infringement, and probably many other “guidelines” are similarly not understood, and used as tools or weapons of intimidation. I’m sure these other misconstruals also lead to ignorance and the dumbing down of entries. Aside from just poor grammar, there is the constant insertion of unproven facts, blatant wrong facts in science, history, and the like, conspiracy theories (big shock they are popular at Wiki, right?), pet projects, actual and blatant copyright and trademark violations with the appearance of movie posters and CD covers, as well as blatant violation of Wiki’s own NPOV policies—and coming from admins as well as editors. And what’s worse is the utter cowardice of most editors, not only in not standing up to and tolerating harassers like Viriditas, but even worse in not fixing entries they know are bad. I had several editors from the Shakespeare entry email me privately congratulating me on trimming it, that they wish they had the guts to do so, and urging me on, even as they warned me of the lies and harassment to come. Bad things happen when good people (or editors) do nothing. As far as I'm concerned, Wikipedia is filled with a bunch of idiots and phonies and cowards and children and hypocrites, but I have not the time, nor money to waste continuing this, especially if that Viriditas ass really sends something even nastier next time. The timing of all this was just far too coincidental- the fake Dali, the spamming, the FU viruses or bots, the altered Wiki texts to tie me and Darwin. But, these viruses were the final proof that Wiki's no better than Right Wing hate blogs. I’ve tried my best, but I’m just one editor against many who have agendas and far greater pc skills to harass me into silence. Unfortunately, some friends of mine- also ex-Wikipedians, warned me of this. Too bad they were right. The few messages in the last week since I was last able to log in is only further proof that people do not want to improve.

If you really care about Wikipedia, and not for my sake, but its, I would look into people like Viriditas, and other users whose sole purpose seems to be to intimidate others for hidden agandas. Despite our initial differences you seem to care. Many other admins never reply, but the use of viruses, bots, altering information, and impersonating people has got to end. Why was it people warned me I would be targeted after the Shakespeare edits? Because they knew this crap existed long before my first edit, and long after my last. It is sad, and indicates Wikipedia will have a long road to travel before it can be taken seriously intellectually. I hope you look into these things so that future editors will not be harassed, nor have their pcs attacked , as mine, and these folk who warned me have. Good luck and goodbye. PS- I even noticed I could not sign my name with 4 tildes as on any page save my own I am not registered- is this more work by Viriditas or others? What nonsense.

My name is William Cumpiano, and I'm a new wikkipedian--or trying to be. I'm founder of a 15-year oral history research and documentation project called the Puerto Rican Cuatro Project ( http://www.cuatro-pr.org ) and I came across your article on the Puerto Ricans in Hawaii. We have done extensive research on the issue over the years, focusing not only on the history of that community but specifically on the stringed instrument music.

I've just edited the relevant article, by adding information gleaned from several extensive interviews with Dr. Norma Carr, Professor of History at the University of Hawaii (a nyuyorquina from way back) and expert on the Puerto Rican migrations; and Dr. Teodoro Solis, ethnomusicologist at the University of Arizona, expert on Puerto Rican-Hawaiian music.

I was interested in expanding the article with our additional findings, and being a neophyte, naively took on face value that all you had to do was edit the contents of an existing article. Upon later finding that you later simply removed my additions, I thought it prudent to inquire about what the process is to actually succeed in making additions to an existing article.

I look to you to guide me in this matter, if you will, so that wikkipedia readers can profit from the wealth of information that we have uncovered on this and other topics.

Thanks for your warm greeting, Tony. It left me, however with some more questions for you: you said my addition was reverted because some of the facts were already stated, yet it reverted the addition in its entirety, including facts that were not yet stated; and the reason you gave for reverting it in the article's history (if I understood it correctly) appeared to be related to its "rev. copyrighted information." Please explain this discrepancy and what breach of Wiki etiquette I have apparently committed.

I hope to be widening this article with information our Project has gleaned from a long interview with one of Hawaii's foremost authorities on the Puerto Rican diaspora in Hawaii, a professor of history at the University of Hawaii. In the future I hope to include her observations on the situation in Hawaii and Puerto Rico that caused Puerto Ricans to be sent there, and the promises that were made to them that drove Puerto Ricans out of their homes, details on their arduous voyage across the United States, and contributions of Puerto Ricans to Hawaiian life and history.

I would certainly like to know from the start if information that has not been published yet, given to the wiki editor from interviews with established experts are acceptable under Wiki rules. If not, let me know and I'll be on my way.

Silly nit: poetist vs. poetess -

Please see my comments at Talk:Lola Rodríguez de Tío. I'm not sure but since you have edited so many Puerto Rican articles I wonder if you know whether I'm totally offbase here. I started seeing many uses of 'poetist' where the word 'poetess' seemed much more correct. And most uses seemed to be in articles about Puerto Rican/Cuban/Hispanic women. I searched using [site:wiki.riteme.site poetist].

I've 'fixed' a couple of these. Could you be on the lookout for other occurrences?

Kind of like that...), and as such he thinks that what I said can be considered libel. Well, he's off his rocker and I'm not particularly worried about it. Not to mention the website he has there is horribly designed ;-)

Jaime Benitez an unnotable?

The removal of Jaime Benitez from the list of Educators suggests that the criteria being used is totally divorced from reality. Likewise with the removal of Richard Carrion's mention as the PRican who has achieved the highest level in the IOC hierarchy and who may someday become IOC president, among others that were stricken along with don Jaime.

If Wikipedia is to become a credible source of research for students and others, it must not contain lists so limited in content as the social-A lists in Ponce where even Rafael Hernandez Colon was given "bola negra". The revisions that were removed when Jaime Benitez was stricken from the list should be reevaluated if this is ever going to be an extensive, objective list of notables.

• Jaime Benitez is notable and will be back in the list. Carrion is already listed under "industrialists". However, the list is getting overcrowded with people's names who are barely known and who's contrbutions to Puerto Rican Culture has been minimal. Besides adding a large amount of names who do not even have an entery or who's information is difficult to verify doesn't make sense. For instance the journalists, Eddie Lopez, Alan Ubrado, Susan Soltero come on! What's the point of including every Resident Commsioner and President of the Senate? The criteria states very clearly "notable or famous". I have a suggestion, why don't you write the article about the person whom you feel should be on the list? The highest journalistic award given in Puerto Rico is named after Eddie Lopez, who not only was a great journalist, but an excellent columnist and humorist, whose work is remembered and honored by his peers to this day.

I certainly don't want to badmouth others on the lists, many of whom I haven't heard of, but who have had less of an impact, positive or negative on Puerto Rican life past or present than some of the names that have been blacklisted. I don't question listing Rafael Bracero, who is a sportscaster, not a newscaster, but you exclude Ruben Sanchez, who has had a greater impact on radio, TV, journalism and journalism education than someone who appears 10 minutes per night, or Susan Soltero, who not only gets higher ratings but through her environmental advocacy and airing of her personal problems teaches us all to be better human beings and stewards of the earth.

You also insist on maintaining incorrect information (Jose Serrano-"first Puerto Rican congressman"---what about Herman Badillo (the real first one), and Bob Garcia (first PRican subcommittee chair), which you've eliminated) or "Richard Carrion-Banco Popular", Banco Popular what?

You suggest that all Resident Commissioners, some Presidents of the Senate and Speakers should not be included at the same time that relatively unknown scientists, nationalists and artists remain on the list. Once again, those on the list should not be excluded but Resident Commissioners who, until 1948 were the top elected officials on the ballot should not be ignored if you aspire for this to become an extensive and reliable source of information on our patria!

Once again, the "bola negra" should be wielded with caution.

Protection of Military history of Puerto Rico

As noted on the article's talk page, it appears to me that you had a conflict of interest when you protected this page. In particular, I do not believe that one unreversion counts as persistent. I feel you own the page too much to use adminstrator rights on it, so should start RfC against the user in question. In my comments, I incorrectly said that he was on a dynamic address, so it seems to me that you can apply the step that requires notification on the user talk page by two people (I consider this to be a first proposal against you). If he continues re-adding without improving the sourcing and neutrality, I would count my message on his talk page as one of the two votes required for RfC, although I note that his latest edit has been reduced to a See Also. --David Woolley 18:49, 4 December 2005 (UTC)

• Hello David, I believe that I have never had the pleasure of writing to you before. You're right about my interest in the article, I've written over 300 of them and always check and see the edits. In this case I saw that User:71,208.24.76 posted his POV twice even after your warning in his talk page. There are cases when a temporary 24 hr. protect discourages a person from breaking the three revert rule and therefore an edit war is avoided. I have nothing personal against User:71,208.24.76, otherwise I would have waited for him to revert three times and then blocked him, but I don't want to discourage him. If you'll notice he created an unsourced and POV article Puerto Rico Nasa Experimentation, which he now links by "See also's". Not only should this article be "tag" for cleanup, as you already did, but also for verification of sources.
