The late Patrick Luganda Iyambo's history

Patrick Luganda Iyambo was born in 1939 by his father Iyambo Shitumwa gwAmumbandja and his mother Munyoka Shapaka. They were born seven in which he is a last born. Both of his parents lived in Uukwalumbe village, in Ongandjera ,Omusati region. His mother passed away in 1941 when he was 1year old . His elder sister was in charge of him as a mother and all the responsibilities for his survival till he was capable of taking care of himself. He was one of those guerrilla combatants together with the other partners in fighting. He named himself as De guerre . By the year 1962 Luganda was one of those fighters who went to Egypt for millitatry training together with John Otto Nankudhu,Tobias Hainyeko and others. They were trained in military warfare tactics and offered regular army training and different weapons. Back from Egypt, Luganda formed a first group called G1 that was responsible for the action inside the country by the year 1965. With this group Luganda and others involved in crossing terrible rivers and terrible predators until they reached Wamboland,because of hope and effort Luganda established a first military camp so-called Ondaadhi in Otamanzi village, Ongandjera. Later on again Luganda and others established a base at Omugulugombashe in Uukwaludhi, were they decide to stay and do the training. Been in the base , they were attacked by South African and they defended themselves. After the attack at Omugulugombashe, Luganda remained inside the country and his enemies wanted to kill him.

He managed to hide himself in his brother’s house known by the name Uushona in 1968. One of his enemy revealed the information that Luganda was at his brother’s house and the military police attacked Uushona’s house. With hope Luganda fought back and vanished unharmed. His brother Uushona was killed by the military police. After some years he reported to the PLAN headquarter in Zambia where he went with his “ 7.6 mm TT pistol and pronounce that he had accomplished his mission” according to Dr Sam Nuujoma. After the reported in Zambia , he was sent to soviet union for training again, where when he return he was wounded and sent to German for medical treatments. In 1990 of independence he joined the Namibia police and by 1991 Luganda passed away in Windhoek.

The father of nation describes Luganda as he was a:

  • fearless person
  • sharp-shooter
  • fastest person in his action

May his soul rest in peace, he made Namibia a happy nation and proud as we are today and forever.[1].[2]
