Welcome!
[edit]Hi, Marguerite Laferrere. Welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Our intro page contains a lot of helpful material for new users—please check it out! If you need help, visit Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or . 331dot (talk) 10:58, 5 September 2017 (UTC)
I would also ask you if you are associated with N+1 singer, certain Wikipedia policies may be relevant to you, depending on your level of association. Thanks 331dot (talk) 10:59, 5 September 2017 (UTC)
Thanks, I work for N+1 Singer and I was wondering why our company was not on Wikipedia since there is an article about the collapse of Kaupthing Singer & Friedlander (which we bought) without any link to us. Plus, most companies who do what we do (Panmumre Gordon or Charles Stanley) have a Wikipedia page. I have read the guidelines and ensured the content of the page adds value to the reader and is non-promotional. Please let me know if I can improve anything. Kind regards, Marguerite Laferrere (talk) 15:17, 5 September 2017 (UTC)
- Thank you for your reply. You will need to review the conflict of interest policy(click on WP:COI) as well as the paid editing policy(WP:PAID) before you edit further. Typically, one should avoid directly editing in areas where they have a conflict of interest.
- Please understand that, as an encyclopedia, not every business or company merits a page here; other things exist. Each page is judged on its own merits. Wikipedia is much more selective about its content; not even every business in the same field merits an article. Businesses merit articles if they meet the business notability guidelines(please review at WP:ORG); in short, this means that the business must have in depth coverage in independent reliable sources that describes how the business is important or significant in some way. I am not seeing that from the sources currently in the article, one of which is merely a business overview and another which is merely a brief announcement of a business transaction. (I cannot read the second source due to a paywall).
- If you need time to find appropriate sources, this article can be moved to a Draft area where you can work on it safely until it is ready, after which you can submit it for an independent review before it is placed back in the encylopedia(that is typically how COI editors are most successful in submitting articles). 331dot (talk) 15:31, 5 September 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for your reply. I have now read the links you have shared with me. This was my initiative (I have not been told to create a Wikipedia page by my employer). My previous company had a Wikipedia page so this is the first time I am trying to create one. I have added some links to the page. From the analytics I have access to, people research our company and would like to know more about it. I think it would be useful to have a Wikipedia page to summarise what we do. I understand that for COI reasons, I might not be the best person to judge. Can I ask you to review it?
And could you let me know how I can save the content as a draft if it can't be published as it is?
Thanks,
Marguerite Laferrere (talk) 17:18, 5 September 2017 (UTC)
- If you would like, I would be willing to move the page into the Draft space for you. The page will appear as it does now except the title will simply have "Draft:" at the beginning, and not technically be part of the encyclopedia. The advantage of this is that it would be at much less risk of deletion while you work on it. As it stands now, I have a difficult time seeing how the page would survive a deletion discussion. If you would like me to move it, please indicate that here.
- From what there is currently, I think this company might potentially merit an article per WP:ORG, but I don't think the article is there yet. The sources given might be needed at some point to establish certain facts, but they do not establish notability as the guidelines define it. Specifically, the depth of coverage subset of the guidelines(click to review) specifically states that "brief announcements of mergers or sales of part of the business" and "routine communiqués announcing such matters as the hiring or departure of personnel" are not sufficient. Coverage in sources is needed that "provides an organization with a level of attention that extends well beyond routine announcements and makes it possible to write more than a very brief, incomplete stub about an organization."
- I understand your position on creating the article- but it must do more than just state the company exists and what it does. To be blunt Wikipedia does not care about helping people research a business or summarizing its activities, both of which are more appropriate purposes for social media. Wikipedia is only interested in what third parties state about a business and how it is notable. I would suggest looking at some other articles on businesses, either in or out of the field, to see what is generally being looked for. Again, I think it is possible that your company does merit an article, but the article doesn't yet indicate that. I hope this helps you. 331dot (talk) 10:17, 6 September 2017 (UTC)
Hi, Thanks for your message. We descend from Singer & Friedlander https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Kaupthing_Singer_%26_Friedlander which have a Wikipedia page with only 2 references. I don't think it's accurate to have this page about Singer & Friedlander without linking it to what they have now become: N+1 Singer. So I was thinking to add a sentence about us on Singer & Friedlander's page. If you think the article would not pass the deletion process, can you please indicate how I can avoid that? I've read the guidelines and compared the content with other pages and I don't see what else can be done? Thank you Marguerite Laferrere (talk) 10:44, 6 September 2017 (UTC)
- It is reasonable to have a sentence or two on the Singer & Friedlander page explaining how it has changed into N+1 Singer. I would suggest posting a request to do so on that article's talk page and wait a few days to see if anyone objects or has other suggestions before adding it to the article yourself.
- Regarding the N+1 Singer page, I would stress that it is not currently up for deletion, only that I am unsure that it would survive if it was. This is why I suggest making the page a draft, so you can work on it further. As I indicated, COI editors who write a draft and then submit it for review are much more successful in creating articles in the area of their COI than those who don't. As for what is needed, I would note that the Singer & Friedlander page, although short, explains that it was associated with a notable financial crisis. Now, that is just one example of something notable that merits a company an article. This is why sources like basic announcements are not generally considered to establish notability, nor is merely having notable clients. Is this company particularly influential in its field? Is it noted in reliable sources for its charitable work? Has it received notable business awards? Is it a Fortune 500 company? Those are just examples of things that might merit a company an article and that need to be shown with sources. If you want to ensure that the page is not put up for deletion while you work on it, the best way to do that is for it to be turned into a draft which you can then resubmit. 331dot (talk) 11:02, 6 September 2017 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of N+1 singer
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on N+1 singer, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which pages can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may be soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:
- It appears to be a clear copyright infringement of http://www.n1singer.com/about. (See section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. However, even if you use one of these processes to release copyrighted material to Wikipedia, it still needs to comply with the other policies and guidelines to be eligible for inclusion. If you would like any assistance with this, you can ask a question at the help desk.
- It appears to be about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), individual animal, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. (See section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 21:10, 6 September 2017 (UTC)
