Right, I'm all ears: why do you think it's ok simply to paste in text from websites which don't indicate they have a GFDL-compatible license? --Rockliffe (talk) 12:44, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Wikipedia:Gajendragad

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Wikipedia:Gajendragad, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

Wrong namespace for article. There is an existing article already Gajendragad, which should be used for the development.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as an appropriate article, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is appropriate, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page and leave a note on [[Talk:Wikipedia:Gajendragad|the article's talk page]] explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Please use Gajendragad article for the further development. Please do not create articles under Wikipedia namespace. Again, welcome to Wikipedia. KNM Talk 14:55, 2 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source for Image:Hangal Tarakeshwara 1.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Hangal Tarakeshwara 1.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 13:42, 28 July 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? --MifterBot (TalkContribsOwner) 13:42, 28 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for uploading Image:Hooli temple 2.JPG. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. J Milburn (talk) 14:12, 29 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Tourism in North Karnataka, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the article and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Proposed deletion of Tourism in North Karnataka

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Tourism in North Karnataka, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Unspecified source/license for Image:Hangal Temples.JPG

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Hangal Temples.JPG. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by MifterBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. --MifterBot (TalkContribsOwner) 18:15, 7 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Kinhal Craft

A tag has been placed on Kinhal Craft, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be blatant advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but you removed a speedy deletion tag from Kinhal Craft, a page you have created yourself. If you do not believe the page should be deleted, you can place a {{hangon}} tag on the page, under the existing speedy deletion tag (please do not remove the speedy deletion tag), and make your case on the page's talk page. This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Jaina monuments in North Karnataka, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://www.clickhubli.com/tourism/jaina-monuments.html. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot (talk) 14:04, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Jaina monuments in North Karnataka requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must include on the external site the statement "I, (name), am the author of this article, (article name), and I release its content under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.2 and later." You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove speedy deletion notices from pages you have created yourself, as you did with Jaina monuments in North Karnataka. Please use the {{hangon}} template on the page instead if you disagree with the deletion. Thank you. -- Collectonian (talk · contribs) 14:37, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop removing speedy deletion notices from pages that you have created yourself, as you did with Jaina monuments in North Karnataka. If you continue, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. -- Collectonian (talk · contribs) 15:17, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your image uploads

[edit]

As a new image patroller, I have seen your image uploads many times. While these started with a few shots of a ruin with a digital camera, which I have no issue about, they turned into a mix of different images. Some of these I am fairly sure you do not own the copyright to, which led to the PUI nominations above and this got me thinking about your other uploads. Alarm bells are set off when images are low resolution, lack meta-data (which is added by cameras) or feature one or more pictures in the same file. When I see these things, I am worried that the pictures may have been taken from elsewhere. The images I am concerned about are-

And so on, I've had enough of listing them now. Basically, I want you to verify whether or not you took these pictures- as in, you travelled to the respective locations and pressed a button on a camera. If you did take them all, an explanation of why they are such low resolution, why there is no meta-data and why you have stuck a lot of them together would help me understand this situation. If there are any images that are not entirely your own work, I assure you that they will be found, and that will no doubt result in all of the images that you have uploaded being deleted. As such, now is the time to come clean if any of these are not completely yours, for the sake of all the others. J Milburn (talk) 11:54, 22 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello J. Milburn,

I belong to North Karnataka India, since 6 months I am working on North Karnataka tourism. I have traveled all the places; I have N72 camera Mobile phone to capture images.

As you said some images are low resolution because wherever necessary I try to capture part of the image which is appropriate using paint brush application, join the related images.

Images related to Personalities like Basavanna, Chennamma, Map are scanned, those are feely available from well-known organizations.

All the images are released under public license.

If you think I need to upload better images I try to capture again and I will upload the same.

Thanks for your concern.

This image contains a number of images that you yourself did not take- therefore, you are not able to release it into the public domain. Could you please cite the original sources of every image that you used to create it? At least some of them (including the image of Siddhesvara Temple Haveri) were taken by Dineshkannambadi- not only is it bad mannered to take an image by someone else without attributing it, but the sources of the images are actually needed to make sure the image license can be verified. Please provide the required sourcing, or the image will have to be deleted as not providing appropriate source information. J Milburn (talk) 17:12, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

In fact, I have deleted the image, as the map you used was taken from a website which does not release its content under a free license. As part of the image is non-free, we have to consider the whole image non-free- we cannot use non-free images to create free ones. I can provide you with the image if you want to remake it with a free map in the centre. J Milburn (talk) 17:14, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

On top of the message above, I have deleted Image:Trikuteshwara temple complex 4.JPG, as this was clearly a copy of this image. I refuse to believe that the images were just taken from the same angle- they had EXACTLY the same tilt and details, yours was just a lower resolution. If you DID take that image, please provide the higher resolution version, so that it can be compared to Dineshkannambadi's image on Commons. J Milburn (talk) 17:18, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with Milburn and would like to add my concerns over the seperate wiki pages on North Karnataka and related places as we have Karnataka category already. On images issue we need to meet the below objectives
1. Wikipedia is not image gallery
2. Quality of images
3. License issues (use of maps/images from other urls etc)

I request a quick re-organization and re-alignment of topics and images

I have performed a web search with the contents of Chaudayyadanapura, and it appears to be very similar to another wikipedia page: Talk:Western Chalukya Architecture. Western Chalukya architecture

[edit]

Hello Manjunath. I saw you had added an image to the above article and I have reverted it. The reason being that each image in the article, containing some 20 images already, describes a certian architectural feature of the Chalukyas. Adding another image, unless very specific to a architectural innovation or feature, is not worth it and also sandwitches text, which is not allowed in a FA. The image is no doubt beautiful and would do well in the Sudi page. I plan to use some of your images from Hangal at some point. Best regards and best of luck. If you have any concerns, please feel free to contact me.Dineshkannambadi (talk) 15:41, 22 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

File source problem with File:North Karnataka Tourism map 10.17.2008.JPG

File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:North Karnataka Tourism map 10.17.2008.JPG. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 15:07, 5 January 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

[edit]

Please don't add "see also" sections, unless absolutely necessary, to well cited articles because it just adds clutter. This is why, wikipedia provides us "categories" that can be a place where all related information is stored. This info already exists in each article on a Karnataka temple I write about. Please see below.[[1]] "Category:Hindu temples in Karnataka"" "Category:12th century architecture" Dineshkannambadi (talk) 13:38, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of Tourism in North Karnataka

I have nominated Tourism in North Karnataka, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Tourism in North Karnataka. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Hi Papa,

Thanks for your comments on the article "Tourism in North Karnataka". I am ready to take your suggestions; I will try to modify the article to meet the standard of wikipedia.

As you already know North Karnataka is known for the historical places associated with Chalukyas, Rastrakutas, Kadambas, Vijayanagara Empire and others.

This article is necessary to provide the information related to Tourism in North Karnataka. I hope you will not suggest this article after modification.

Thanks and Regards

Time to play by the rules

[edit]

Thanks for all your hard work on articles about Karnataka. However, you're making a lot of inappropriate edits and it's time you started playing by the rules. Here is a list of examples:

  • You should always use edit summaries so other editors can easily see what changes you have made to an article
  • You need to read the manual of style and make sure you understand it. All articles should have the same layout. In particular, read the sections about bold text, lists, image placement and whitespace.
  • Your articles contain a lot of peacock phrases and your own point of view about subjects. Sentences like "South Karnataka is a unique combination of spectacular vesara style Hoysala architecture, colossal Jain monuments, colonial buildings and palaces of the Kingdom of Mysore, impregnable fort at Chitradurga and densely forested wildlife sanctuaries that offer some of the best eco-tourism available in the country." might be appropriate for a guidebook but they are not suitable for an encyclopaedia.

You're creating an awful lot of work for other editors, who have to clean up your articles. If this continues without any improvement, you could eventually be blocked from editing.

Please could you make sure that you fully understand all the points above before you continue editing. If you need any help, just ask. Papa November (talk) 09:04, 16 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Papa,

I understand your points but The sentences you are refering

""South Karnataka is a unique combination of spectacular vesara style Hoysala architecture, colossal Jain monuments, colonial buildings and palaces of the Kingdom of Mysore, impregnable fort at Chitradurga and densely forested wildlife sanctuaries that offer some of the best eco-tourism available in the country."

It was not included by me. Please check once again, those additions are done by some one else very long back.

I just tried to remove the redundant (same) information in the article.

Generally the advises you provided to me for the improvements for the articles, I have accepted.

Hi! Thanks for adding better imgs in the Western Chalukya architecture template. The other two double images you have added clutters the whole get up of the article. In fact Pattadakal template alraedy gives the two images which you are again posting as a double image. I will be posting this article for GA upgrade soon and too many images always invites a deletion review comment. Please consider removing the two double images templates added by you. You might have noticed that as a Kannada speaking person from Mysore, I have done a number of articles on Karnataka. My two recent articles after my pilgrimage to Gokarna for religious rites, are Mahabaleshwar Temple, Gokarna and Mirjan Fort, both awaiting DYK acceptance. I have been searching for images of Kittur Fort to expand the article for quite some time but failed to do so. Last time I went very close to Kittur but could not make it to the fort. If you have any imgs of Kittur Fort, please post them on wikicommons. If you want me to write on any subject related to Karnataka, please tell me. I will be happy to do it. --Nvvchar 13:42, 6 June 2010 (UTC)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Kalakaleshwara temple Gajendragad requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Hi, Manjunath Doddamani Gajendragad
Brief version: please don't copy and paste other websites into Wikipedia.
Long version: please see Wikimedia:Terms of Use and Wikipedia:Copyrights
The text you added is appears to be possibly without doubt the "intellectual property" of the "http://www.holidayiq.com/" website owner, "Leisure & Lifestyle Information Services Pvt. Ltd." While a case may plausibly made that the user who contributed the "user-generated content" may possibly retain some some rights, this is almost completely unrelated to how it can be used on Wikipedia.
I think the subject of the article might nevertheless make a good Wikipedia article. Please feel free to contact me to get it re-started!
--Shirt58 (talk) 12:05, 12 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Manjunath Doddamani Gajendragad, you recently removed a deletion tag from Kalakaleshwara temple Gajendragad. Because Wikipedia policy does not allow the creator of the page to remove speedy deletion tags, an automated program has replaced the tag. Although the deletion proposal may be incorrect, removing the tag is not the correct way for you to contest the deletion, even if you are more experienced than the nominator. Instead, please use the talk page to explain why the page should not be deleted. Remember to be patient, there is no harm in waiting for another experienced user to review the deletion and judge what the right course of action is. As you are involved, and therefore potentially biased, you should refrain from doing this yourself. Thank you, - SDPatrolBot (talk) 11:23, 12 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for File:Kanakagiri Venkatappa Naik royal bath 5.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Kanakagiri Venkatappa Naik royal bath 5.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Raichur. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. This is an automated message from MadmanBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Mudgal Fort, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://meramudgal.webs.com/.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

If substantial content is duplicated and it is not public domain or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. [edit]

Hi,I am Ovsek, please tell full control of all Indian history related articles as they are victim of systematic bias.

Example-

"A small anti-British force of about 40,000 men (and a few women) formed in Southeast Asia, the Indian National Army (INA). Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. Hi. If you have photo of Sidlaphadi please upload in the article. Thanks for creating articles on North Karnataka. I am from South Karnataka. Rayabhari (talk) 14:59, 13 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Daroji Sloth Bear Sanctuary requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://www.aranya.gov.in/downloads/Daroji_MgmtPlan.pdf. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 05:20, 20 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

In 2017 - 2018, the Wikimedia Foundation and Google working in close coordination with the Centre for Internet and Society (CIS), Wikimedia India chapter (WMIN) and user groups will pilot a program encouraging Wikipedia communities to create locally relevant and high-quality content in Indian languages. Provided resources are the sole property of the beneficiaries and should be used for the betterment of the movement.

If you're an active Wikimedian, and interested to receive support from this project, please apply. It will take around 10 minutes of your time, and will ask descriptive questions about your contribution to Indic Wikimedia projects.
