Singer Sri Lankan Airlines Rugby 7's
[edit]I noticed that you recently created an article for the 2001 Singer Sri Lankan Airlines Rugby 7's. I have undertaken some edits to re-format the article, in order to bring it in-line with other articles on rugby sevens tournaments. I thought that this might be handy if you want to reformat the other article you created on the 2003 Singer Sri Lankan Airlines Rugby 7's or if you want to create articles for the other years of the competitions. Dan arndt (talk) 09:37, 13 January 2015 (UTC)
- Also, please add multiple independent references to each article. Thanks. Deb (talk) 10:55, 13 January 2015 (UTC)
Ok, I added references from the official website www.rugby7.com which is the only source that you can trust at 100 % concerning rugby sevens.
- There other references available that verify information from rugby7.com that you can use. I like what you've done in adding more information to the 2001 Singer Sri Lankan Airlines Rugby 7's. The articles for the other years however a little more than placeholders for a future article and potentially face deletion. I'd strongly suggest that you prepare these articles in your sandbox rather than creating a single liner as an article. That way they don't get deleted before you have a chance to brign them up to the same standard as 2001. Dan arndt (talk) 05:44, 15 January 2015 (UTC)
Ok, I will do it ,to try to put more information for the others years, but it will take some times.
- I realise it's a big task, so you'll just have to take it one year at a time. I'll try and help where I can (have expanded the 2003 competition). BTW any reason why you started with 2001 & 2003? Dan arndt (talk) 12:03, 15 January 2015 (UTC)
Ok, Well, I started the year 2001 and 2003 because I played the competition so I have the books with the name of the players. So I just copied the names from the book. this why I put also the club from Belgium because I know them but for the rest I don't know their clubs and its not written on the book. But you did an excellent work with the players from Sri Lanka. Otherwise, because I don't have the book ,I will just put the result 2004 , 2005 ,2006 ,2007, 2008 ,2009 and 2010. But I guess that with the pages created others players ,coach or manager will write something on it.
- You realise that you should cite the book as a reference for the information you've added. When you say "you played the competition" did you mean you attended or did you actually compete? Also (based on my experience) it is highly unlikely that other editors will be able to provide details of the coaches, managers. players etc. Dan arndt (talk) 03:23, 16 January 2015 (UTC)
I Competed. I understand what you mean with the book, but this book is nowhere on internet. Its only the players, coach, manager and spectators at that time that received it and at this time internet was not existing. Ok so for me the year 2000 , 2001 , 2002 are ok now 2003 ,maybe u can add the teams club of the sri Lankan players and check the club of Belgium 2004 ,results are ok but the style of the competition changes and I don't know how to do that 2010 , results are ok but the style of the competition changes too and I don't know how to do that. then 2005 , 2006 , 2007 , 2008 and 2009 are still to create but if you are already helps me for the 2004 competition,i can make quickly the year 2005 and 2006.
- The book doesn't have to be found on the internet. If it is an independent publication (i.e. not written by yourself) as long as it is properly cited Template:Cite book, it can be used as a reliable reference. I'd be happy to assist in ensuring it was properly referenced if you provide the details of the publication. So far the first three articles for 2001, 2002 & 2003 are looking good. I will assist in the formatting and grammar as you go.Dan arndt (talk) 15:23, 17 January 2015 (UTC)
Well, its a magazine of the tournament . There is no references like no names of people who wrote it, no names of editions ...its only writing singer sri lanka sevens . but if you want I can scan to you some of the pages.
- I'm guessing that it's a tournament programme produced by the tournament organisers - so send me a scan of the the front cover and also the inside cover. That should provide the name of the publication, date and possibly the printers. Dan arndt (talk) 08:52, 18 January 2015 (UTC)
Yes it's a tournament programme ,but how could I send you some scan ? I am not familiar with wikipedia...
Ok,I finished the year 2004 , 2005 and 2006 ...Maybe you can check ? also maybe if you want you can add some colors for the 4 teams that are eliminated of the 1/4 final of the cup and put them a color for joining the plate. Or you can just leave it like that...
- A number of references that I've found state that the Singer Sri Lankan Airlines Rugby 7's ceased in 2008 and that in 2009 & 2010 it was called the Carlton 7's and held in Colombo... In 2011 the Carlton 7's was no longer a international tournament and became a district competition. What is your understanding? are you able to clarify what occurred? Dan arndt (talk) 09:49, 20 January 2015 (UTC)
Yes, this is why I put off the name of the stadium in 2010 and 2009 because the tournament was in Colombo. I think he keeps the same name but changes the location for this two years . but iam not sure about 2008 Ok,I finished 2007 , 2008 and 2009. So now the only thing to check is the year 1999 which I have the score in my book and the official names for the tournament in 2008 , 2009 and 2010 ,but I will make some investigations.
- I'm fairly certain that you'll find the 2008 tournament was played in Kandy. Need to confirm whether the title of the completion changed in 2009 and 2010. None of the records I can find apart from RU7 show that there was a 2009 or 2010 Singer Sri Lankan Airlines Sevens competition. Do you have a programme from those years? 11:48, 20 January 2015 (UTC)
Well,I asked to my brother and he thinks that the year 2009 and 2010 was called carlton but they still play in Kandy ,its only after that they play in Colombo but the name reminds carlton because the airlines company stopped to sponsorise the tournament and I guess its carlton that invest some moneys. I don't have a programs for these years. but don't forget in mind that for a moment this tournament was I think only reserve to Asian teams to play qualifier tournament for Asia .
- the references I've been able to track down over the web all say the tournament in 2010 was played in Colombo. They also indicate that it was called the Carlton 7s, I just can't work out if there were two sevens competitions, which is highly unlikely.Dan arndt (talk) 14:49, 20 January 2015 (UTC)
- How do you feel about doing a series of articles on the Carlton 7s ? Dan arndt (talk) 14:51, 20 January 2015 (UTC)
Well ,there was only one competition a year for that I am sure . But I made some research about the tournament and I think thzt they start to change the name of the year 2009 for Carlton 7's So in 2008 ,they called it singer sri lankan sevens and playing in Kandy then in 2009 changing the name and playing in Colombo. and they change the name and location because they change of sponspors but since the begin the Sri Lanka rugby federation is involved in the two projects and its like a continuity for them ...
- Based on my research the last year of the Singer Sri Lankan Airlines Rugby 7's was in 2008. The following year it was renamed the 2009 Carlton Rugby 7's (held at Sugathadasa Stadium, Colombo), so I have renamed the article for that year and provided a lead to the article which explains what occurred. I have also renamed the 2010 event to the 2010 Carlton Rugby 7's. This then provides the opportunity to create articles for the 2011-14 Carlton Rugby 7's (if you are up to it).Dan arndt (talk) 09:05, 21 January 2015 (UTC)
Ok,I think that is good work what u did . Well for me at the moment,I wont do the Carlton because I realized its a lot of works...and also ,me I was just checking result on the web site www.rugby7.com but there is no result for the Carlton 7's. But if u want I can put the result for the year 1999 because its written the results inside my book but I don't think that you can find these results on internet...
- If you have the results for 1999 then go ahead and put them in an article. If I have the time I will work on a parent article for the Carlton Rugby 7's, which may result in articles for the separate years. If you ever have the time and any information on the Clifford Cup competition - then let me know (just post a message on my talk page - User talk:dan_arndt). It's been great collaborating on the 7's articles. Dan arndt (talk) 09:54, 21 January 2015 (UTC)
Ok, I will do the 1999 tournament , Yes its cool ,especially that rugby sevens is going to be an Olympic sport in 2016. We worked for the history of Asian teams because most of the first game of Asian team were playing in Sri lanka. Also rugby sevens for me when it will be in the Olympic will take more importance . But Also I saw that you were working on comics , don't forget that if you need to know something about comics in Belgium ,you can ask me because Belgium is where you have the most popular creators of comics like Tintin, the smurfs,etc...
- i work on many things and have many varied interests. One of the things we have in common is obviously our heritage and love of the game they play in heaven. It would good to see Sri Lanka be able to become one of the rugby powers in Asia. Anyway dont be a stranger, keep in touch.Dan arndt (talk) 13:44, 21 January 2015
