{{helpme}} I want to modify the following maps from Wikimedia Commons and Creative Commons and upload the modified maps in some of the pages/articles they are linked with:

1. Bg_map.PNG 2. Italy-Villanovan-Culture-900BC.PNG by ZyMOS 3. Hannibal's_Route_Of_Invasion.PNG by Frank Martini 4. Battles_second_punic_war.PNG by Panairjdde

I want to update the maps in the individual linked pages with information from the sources mention on those pages so they reflect the situation of those pages. Would Wikipedia policy permit this? Maglorbd 14:15, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The only image of those that I found was Image:Battles second punic war.png, which is licensed under the GFDL and CC SA 1.0. If you comply with either of those licenses, you can modify Image:Battles second punic war.png, upload it under a different name, and use it in other articles. If you comply with the licenses of any images here (by giving attribution, re-licensing the work under the original license, etc.), you can modify and reuse them. Unspecified source for Image:Punic_War_Naval_Battles.gif

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Punic_War_Naval_Battles.gif. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 21:59, 18 November 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Jusjih (talk) 21:59, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

1971 Map

[edit]

With reference to http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/File:Banoob71.PNG - AMAZING piece of work! - AMAZING doesnt do justice. Great Job!.

Have slight corrections (and maybe more).

  • You say there were four Armoured Regiments and Five Armoured Squadrons in Indian Orbat. As per my knowledge there were three Armoured Regiments - 45 Cav, 63 Cav, 69 AR. Maybe I missed one?
  • Indian 50 Para Bde operated in the II Corps Sector and not XXXIII Corps area.

Maybe you can try a version of the map where you can link the brigades with the Divisions? The portion at Agartala gets real confusing and the lines that are drawn may resolve part of the issue.

jaiiaf (talk) 15:09, 4 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Couple of corrections in the Air Squadrons page. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/4/40/Banair71a.PNG . 2 Squadron was not in Dum Dum but in the West. Similary 16 Squadron was at Gorakhpur. There was also an airfield at Kumbhirgram which launched some missions jaiiaf (talk) 17:19, 22 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
ACIG unfortunately is wrong on some counts. To confirm that 2 Squadron was not at Dum dum, this page http://www.bharat-rakshak.com/IAF/History/Sqn/002.html gives the history and location. It does not mention Dum Dum. My guess is that the other book you mention may have mistaken 22 Squadron for 2 Squadron. I dont remember which source locates 16 squadron at gorakhpur but i heard that the squadron operated form there and is even today based there. jaiiaf (talk) 03:25, 30 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for this excellent article. One pointer: I note you've got a lot of things listed under "bibliography" that don't appear in the inline citations found under "references". Where you have used these as sources, could you note the book and page number using inline citations? Ironholds (talk) 14:01, 11 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Brilliant, thanks. A few more bluelinks would be nice; the lead, for example, has none. You might do well in asking one of the Guild of Copy Editors to take a look, but other than that it's an excellent article. Ironholds (talk) 14:19, 11 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

File Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading File:Taurus394.PNG. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

{{helpme}} If I want to modify an image file from www.livius.org and upload it to wikipedia, which license should I use? Is this permitted?Maglorbd (talk) 16:19, 25 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No. According to the website, the photographs are "often by Marco Prins © 2002-2009", and I see no indication that he has made them available under a free license, unless the photo you intend to use is clearly marked as an exception. Where is this picture exactly? AJCham 16:32, 25 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Location of the proposed image file: Marco Prins-Jona Lendering - is it permissible to modify this and upload it in wikipedia?Maglorbd (talk) 09:41, 26 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The image can be seen at http://www.livius.org/sh-si/sicily/sicily01.html#Prehistory , and is marked ©**. According to http://www.livius.org/mail2.html, this signifies that the photographer or designer is either Marco Prins or Jona Lendering. Under the conditions mentioned above, you can use their pictures.
However, we cannot use it here, as the conditions to which he refers are not compatible with our free licensing policy, as they do not allow commercial use, nor do they allow the use of the image offline without additional permissions. The page is misleading, as it suggests that use on Wikipedia is permissable, but I suspect they are unfamiliar with our terms. Regards, AJCham 10:05, 26 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I thought of informing you about a wp:SPS pakdef.info the RSN discussion was here [1] few editors here were inclined to add content from pakdef.info and had added it at a number of indo pak history articles. Even after the source was declared unreliable a lot of the associated content still remains on wiki articles with [citation needed] tags. License tagging for File:Eryx244BC.PNG

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Eryx244BC.PNG. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click the "Edit" tab at the top of the page and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 15:05, 12 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'd go looking for peer-reviewed scholarly papers, either ones discussing Karna from a theological point of view, or ones discussing him from a literary point of view. A quick Google Scholar search brought up quite a few hits that may be worth investigating in a university library. Google Books is also worth a search and found this work which seems relevant enough. Huon (talk) 20:26, 29 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
For what it's worth, you shouldn't be so condescending to helpful editors and we absolutely do work on an "information now, citation later", basis. It's just also perfectly valid to have other editors challenge or remove content and to discuss possible problems like incompleteness, inaccuracies, bias, &c. Thank you for being one of the watchdogs, but do kindly be a little nicer about how you go about it. — LlywelynII 04:44, 2 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

M. A. G. Osmani, references, ISBN numbers

[edit]

Hello,
I, and others, have been working on correcting ISBN numbers in references. Back in September of 2013, with this edit, you added references to the M. A. G. Osmani page. Unfortunately, for several of the references the ISBN numbers are invalid. Specifically the ones for:

Ibrahim, Maj Gen. (ret.) Sayed Muhammad, Misrokothon p238, ISBN 984-70105-0434-7
General Osmany', Peer, M. Ataur Rahman, p11, ISBN 984-70059-0104-8

I have put a considerable amount of effort into trying to find the correct ISBN for the M. Ataur Rahman book. Unfortunately, I have been unsuccessful in either finding a valid ISBN, or verifying that the ISBN in the book is actually invalid. What I have found is that you appear to have translated the title and author name. Another time, if you are going to helpfully provide a translation, please also provide the title as it is on the book (I assume: জেনারেল ওসমানী) and author/editor (also assumed: পীর, এম আতাউর রহমান). In most cases, having the untranslated information makes it much easier to find the work in question.

As of yet, I have not attempted to find the Misrokothon book.

In both of the above cases, the ISBN numbers are either of invalid format and/or have extra digits. 13-digit ISBN numbers start with 978 or 979, not 984. However, 984 is the registration group (first digit(s) in a 10-digit ISBN) for books published in Bangladesh, which is probably consistent with these books. Thus, I expect that it is likely these ISBN numbers actually have three extra digits each.

I would appreciate it if you could verify the ISBN numbers for these two books. Thanks. — Makyen (talk) 04:15, 15 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You're obviously very involved with the Carthaginian articles here so I assume you have a good source for the Punic name ḤMLQRT (in addition to the inscriptions ḤMLK mentioned by Huss) and for its meaning "Brother of Melqart" instead of sth like "Melqart is Gracious" in parallel with Hanno and Hannibal. When you have time, kindly add it to the Hamilcar articles or leave me a message on my talk page with it so I can add it. — LlywelynII 04:30, 2 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Collaboration

[edit]

Hi Maglorbd. I note your comment "Before I die or wikipedia evolves into something new, I wish to produce a "FA" rated article." Is that still your view? If so, would you consider a collaboration on Battle of Phintias with a view to seeing how far we can get it?

I have had 15 successful FACs in the past year, all on military conflicts, so know something about generating quality content; and recently took Battle of Ecnomus through FAC, so know something about naval conflicts of the First Punic War. (I am currently working on Battle of the Aegates.)

Let me know what you think. Gog the Mild (talk) 11:51, 3 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Battle of Cissa, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Macedonia. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution

[edit]

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from one or more pages into Battle of Silva Litana. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. Also, when copying from one article to another, please be sure to also copy details of the supporting citations and texts. Thank you, — Diannaa (talk) 17:34, 24 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I will follow the the above. Just to mention, I had written some of the texts copied from Battle of Rhone and just inserted them as is. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.Maglorbd (talk) 07:17, 27 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

No target errors

[edit]

Hi Maglorbd. When using short form refs, for instance {{sfn}} or {{harvnb}}, the details need to match the cite exactly. I've just corrected errors at Battle of Parwan and I've previously done the same at Battle of Rhone Crossing. In general the format should always be {{sfn|surname|year|p=page number}}, and should match the |last= and |date= fields in the cite (although only the year in the date field).
You may want to turn on these errors so you can see them, as detailed here, or just ask of you have any questions. - LCU ActivelyDisinterested transmissions °co-ords° 14:56, 29 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. Will do better.Maglorbd (talk) 13:25, 17 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

বাংলা উইকিপিডিয়ায় আমন্ত্রণ

[edit]
